Java Blocked This Morning

I seem to be having Java plug-in problems with both Mac OS 10.6 and Mac OS 10.7 systems on our network this morning, in both cases Java applications are unable to run either from Safari or Firefox. In 10.7 I get a message about the plugin being blocked and am directed to the Java website to download an update, however, the version presented is the same one that is installed that is getting blocked (I downloaded and installed it anyway but the blocked message still remains). In 10.6 I get a message about an invactive plugin and when I click on the arrow to activate it it launches Apple Software Update which indicated that everything is up to date. Today is the last day in our pay period and our Timesheet application runs in Java so I really need to get this resolved quickly.
Does anyone have any pointers on reenabling Java?

Apple slammed the door again on Oracle's Java this morning, due to its presence as a vector for malware intrusion. It will remain closed until Oracle decides to fix it, and Apple determines that it is no longer a threat.
You can override this protection at your own risk.
Warnings

An application such as EasyFind will help find the file you need to modify. Download it here: http://www.devontechnologies.com/products/freeware.html
Using EasyFind or similar utility, search for the file Xprotect.meta.plist. Make EasyFind look like this:
Double-click the highlighed file to open it in Xcode. Click the "reveal triangles" under PlugInBlacklist until you find the highlighted entry for Java's minimum plugin version that looks like this:
Notice the entry String 1.7.11.22. If your version is something different than that it would be best to not proceed since it would be different than what my .plist is showing.
Click the String so that you can modify it, and change the String to 1.7.10 or earlier version of Java 7.
File > Save.
Quit Xcode.
Quit EasyFind.
You may need to reboot your Mac for this change to take effect.
This should enable you to use your Java-based timesheet application for today.
Subsequent updates from Apple will modify Xprotect so this will only be a temporary workaround, if it works at all. I cannot confirm that it will - see Warning #4 above.

Is Java blocked again?

I was forced this morning to update to Java 7 update 17 from Oracle. Has update 13 before.
Then it was working for a couple of hours but now its blocked again. I'm trying to run the installation again for Java 7 update 17 but i just get the message that a higher version is already installed.
I have tried it on 3 different Macs and all have the same problem.
This is really getting on my nerves as it completely stops me from doing my work.

The download from Apple is the Xprotect framework which blocks Java from working. If you didn't download the updated Xprotect, then you could continue using your current Java version, which is insecure (and the reason Apple blocked it).
You can elect to have Apple update Xprotect and secure your system (by blocking insecure Java versions on your machine), or you can elect to have Apple NOT do this and run what Java version you want. But once Xprotect is updated on your machine, you MUST update Java or you must hack a plist file to run an insecure Java.
It's your choice. And just because you don't understand my answer, does not mean it's unhelpful.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Quit the application. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select

URGENT!!!!! JDev is not showing my project (when I opened it this morning)

Hello All,
I am using JDev 10.1.3.4 for the last 3 months and all was well. I worked in it yesterday night and everything was working as expected. I saved my work before logging off and when I opened it this morning, I don't see my application/projects. If I click on Re-open, it is empty (JDev does not have any thing in the memory.)
While JDev was starting up, I did get an error message to which I did not pay much attention and just clicked ok (as that was the only option) Since I was checking emails and stuff on other screens all I remember from the message is that it said something about UDDI (that it cannot access UDDI or something)
I need to start working right away as this is a critical time for us and code migration is this Friday.

One more thing,
When I click View - > and any of the Navigators (Application, System, Connection etc.) nothing comes up. I don't see any of the panes. There is just 1 blue screen!!!
I found a post very similar to mine - "BUG Application Navigator is Empty". Shay Shmeltzer has suggested: If you start JDev using the \jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe - are there any exceptions shown in the dos window?
I did this and got a long list of error messages. This first one is:

From inside JDeveloper do help->about and look at the properties tab for the ide.user.dir attribute to figure out where the directory is.
For me this (help _> properties -> ide -> user -> dir) is empty!!!!!

Java blocks webos doctor

I have an HP touchpad wi-fi only. I was trying to install the webos doctor as my device has been increasingly cranky and not opening some referred websites and mime files. I got the doctor partly installed and Java blocked the completion saying the certificate was out of date. When I checked the box to take the risk, Java still blocked the installation saying it was dangerous to install the program.
How do I "refresh" my tablet? As I am sure you know, HP no longer supports the tablet :-( Many thanks.

How to Doctor an HP TouchPad (reflash the ROM)
On your Touchpad be sure to have:
USB cable. The battery is charged to at least 30%.
Computer:
Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista Available USB port (not a hub or secondary port). Java 1.5 or later is installed. If you are not sure about what version of Java you have, or even if Java is installed, go to www.java.com and click the Do I have Java? link to install the latest version of Java. 210MB of storage space. Internet connection.
Miscellaneous Info:
The update process will take approximately 15 minutes. During this process, your device will not be available for use.
Downloading webOS Doctor
Download webOS Doctor on your desktop computer. If you have a webOS profile, get it from http://ws.hpwebos.com/webosdoctor/sorry.htm

Get your TouchPad ready to update
Hold the Power Button for several seconds until a menu appears. Tap Shut Down to completely power down your device.
Running webOS Doctor
Double-click the file that was downloaded to run webOS Doctor. Follow the on screen directions up until you are asked to connect your device. Select the language you selected on your device, and click Next. Confirm your language choice. Click Accept to accept the terms of use. Click Next. webOS Doctor checks your system. BE PATIENT! I've seen this part take a few minutes to complete. After webOS Doctor finishes checking your system, you will be asked to connect your device.
Connecting your device and finishing the webOS Doctor update
Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. You must connect your device directly to your computer, not through a USB hub or other intermediate device. Now the tricky part. Hold the Volume Up button on the device and insert the USB cable. After the large USB symbol appears on screen, let go of the Volume Up button. If you see the HP logo instead of the large USB symbol, you may have let go of the Volume Up button prematurely. If this occurred , wait until your device boots up, shut down your device and then repeat step 2. Windows will find your device and may offer to install two different drivers. When asked to install drivers of OMAP, select No, not at this time. When asked to install drivers for Palm Novacom (bootie), select Yes and let the drivers install. This may take a while. Once the drivers have been installed, the Next button will become available in webOS Doctor. Click Next. Do not disconnect your device from the computer during the update process. When the Reset Complete screen appears, click Done. Wait a few minutes for your device to reset. You're done!

WHAT is going on AIM? I keep getting the Auth:ResVLink Error this morning!

I was chatting with my Dad perfectly fine this morning. We wanted to add my sister but I couldn't see that she was available. So I ended our chat and then couldn't get back on because of the AOL error. I can't even log into AIM separately.
Anyone know what is going on?

OK,
There are several parts or stages in making a Video (or Audio) chat connection.
The visible part is sent out and received on port 5678 on the UDP Protocol.
iChat then moves in iChat 3 to port 5060 and contacts the SNATMAP server (run by Apple for iChat) to send the SIP part of the invite and "negotiate" which ports to use.
The Buddy's iChat does the same thing on clicking Accept.
The Server puts the two together on agreed ports and the chats starts the server drops out and you are Peer-to-Peer. (On Ports 16384-16387 normally but 4 from 165384-16403)
In iChat 4 the invite and stuff to the SNATMAP server is on port 16402 as first choice. This is also the single port for Video in and Out and Audio in and Out
(if the port is unavailable, iChat drops one port at a time for 10 ports)
Now some routers and modems have protection features.
DoS (Denial of Service) blocks incoming data in considers is too much too quickly.
SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection makes a judgement if the Data stream is OK.
Both protect you from losing the whole internet connection by stooping that data stream.
In most case these are preset thresholds.
As Internet connections get faster and faster people are bumping into them more often.
A fast Buddy could be seen as sending too much too Quickly
With Leopard/iChat 4 sending all the data on one port there is also a risk that what worked before is now subject to getting cut.
Declining Invitations can be iChat's way of interpreting that the other end suddenly got cut off.
Error 7 almost certainly pints to this problem.
Error 20 (no Data for 10 secs) can also be the same issue if you did not get to see or hear your Buddy.
It is worthwhile checking the modems and routers at both ends as the info above is somewhat generalised.

10.6.1 installed this morning - drive not found on reboot

Installed 10.6.1 update that was in Software Update this morning
File downloaded fine, installation looked like it went fine - system rebooted - and I get the folder icon with a question mark on it.
Rebooted a few more times just to make sure - no good
Held down option during reboot to see if any drives were there at all - none
All my software is at home - i have nothing on me

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I don't know whether you are a DiskWarrior customer, or whether you would want to spend $100 to avoid restoring from backup, but DiskWarrior would fix that for you.
Your disk's Journal Info Block, part of the file system that supports the disk's data and is not visible to the user, was corrupt. There is a new feature in Snow Leopard that saw this corruption as something that doesn't exist and prevented the mount. Running DiskWarrior would repair the disk and prevent the extra headaches.
If nothing else, someone with a similar problem that finds this may avoid having to restore from backup. Glad you are back up and running.

suddenly this morning I cannot attach a photo to my email. When I click on the paper clip (to attach a photo) nothing happens. I can attach photos using chrome so I am thinking it must be something went arye with mozilla. It worked fine last evening.

Gmail? For now, you have to allow pop-ups for google.com to work around some change in Gmail.
While you have the compose window on the screen, click the padlock in the address bar.
* If the pop-up permission is listed there as Block, change it to Allow.
* If the pop-up permission is not listed there, click More Information to launch the Page Info dialog, then click Permissions in the top bar. Scroll down to "Open pop-up windows", uncheck the box for "Set default" then click Allow and close the dialog.
Then try the paper clip again.

over the last few days my computer has been turning itself off after i'd just booted up, before i'd even opened up any software.
and so this morning it wouldn't turn on at all. i tried all the obvious trouble shooting stuff. about 30mins after i'd tried to start it, it chimed and turned itself on. i did a 'first aid verify disk ' and got this slightly worrying message:

Sounds like the Hard drive is toast. Might be repairable with Diskwarrior. I would bootup in target mode and see if another Mac can recognize it. Then backup everything.

My ipod 4th gen screen kept jumping this morning. Had to do a restore on it and it is working fine now. However, when I did the restore it did not load the Nike app that was factory installed on my ipod. I use this app daily. Any idea how to get it back

However, it originally had a factory installed Nike+ app on it and it did not install with the restore. I use this app daily with the running chip to log my workouts. Anyone know how to get this app back from Apple? Loading the Nike app from the app store is not the same thing as you need gps running continually for it to work (as with an iphone). Can't have that with my ipod unless I'm connected to wifi. Help?? Thanks.

If you go to Settings do you see an entry for the Nike app? There is no way to delete or hide that app?
Have you tired using the Spotlight search? Maybe you just can't find it.
Next would be to restore a gain. First from backup then next to factory settings/new iPod.

Does work on the iPOd. You just do not get all the information that GPS/cellular connection can get. You will still be able to get distance/footstrikes like the installed app an you do not need the shoe sensor.. It uses the built-in sensors on the iPod
