Java broken on Mavericks

Followed the various bits of advice - latest Java installed.
Java is not working - period - in any browser.
Yet another update that has broken what was working.
Absolutely stuck.
Any suggestions, anyone, please?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi thanks for that - yep, I realise Mavericks is sans java.  I had installed the java as recommended on these forums.
Actually,  I had tried installing the latest incarnation from the java site.
Restarting the machine and checking gave me:
Verified Java Version
Congratulations!
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 45).
This is before your kind response.
And, after trying to get java too work for a good few days - it now does.
Thanks, anyway.

  • Java broken under Mavericks

I'm on a Mac with OS X Mavericks and Java 7u45. after installing Mavericks you must install JAVA from JAVA.com and the most recent Apple JAVA update (Java For OSX 2013-05), which I did.)
In Java Control Panel > Security, the Security Level "slider" is grayed-out (can't change it, it's set at 'High') and the 'Enable Java content in browser' check-box will not retain a check-mark. So I can't change either of these two settings. This happens as a 'Standard User' with Authentication or logged-in as an 'Administrator'.
I've uninstalled JAVA, reinstalled JAVA, repaired permissions, restarted, etc.
    Any suggestions?

I have a solution that has worked on 2 macs-an iMac and a macbook pro-both that were upgraded to mavericks. I got the help of a very smart person. his diagnosis was that there was interaction between Java 6 and 7 that was not a problem with 10.8.5 but having both is a problem with mavericks. my guess is that you previously installed Java 7 on top of Java 6, which was true for me.
so, we eliminated all java files we could find, uninstalled Java 7, rebooted, flushed caches and reinstalled Java 7.
    here are the specific steps:
-- /library/preferencepanes there is a file called "JavaControlPanel.prefPane" move that to trash
--/library/ move the Java folder to the trash
--/library/ move the Oracle folder to the trash
    --uninstall JRE 7.45
you can do this by finding "JavaAppletPlugin.plugin" and moving it to the trash. that file is in /library/internet plug-ins. described here:
    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml
--restarted and booted in safe mode (hold down the shift key during restart)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
--once safe boot was finished I logged back in and installed JRE-7u45
at that point the Java control panel was back to working normally. You can adjust the security slider and the "enable Java content in the browser" will be checked.
I do not know whether all these steps are required. I do know that this procedure has restored Java 7 functionality to my machines.
hopefully Oracle will release a revised Java 7 that removes the offending files as part of its installation.
if you follow these steps, let me know the outcome.
    good luck!

  • PDF copy to clipboard is broken in Mavericks 10.9.5

PDF copy is broken in Mavericks 10.9.5 on my MacBook Pro 17 (mid 2009). I cannot screen capture to the clipboard (ctrl-shift-cmnd-4) or between applications when the copy format is PDF. I can, however, save as a pdf file during screen capture (shoft-cmnd-4). Other formats (pict, jpeg etc) work fine. Only pdf is broken. The error shows up as an empty clipboard and as Preview being unable to create a new file from the clipboard. Have reinstalled OSX 10.9.5 (combo update). Have created a new user and logged in as the new user (no menu bar extensions,  etc) and the problem persists. Have booted up in safe mode and the problem persists.
Is this a combination of an old MacBook Pro (17 inch, mid 2009) and Mavericks or have others experienced this problem with different configurations?

  • Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken?

Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken? For example, try searching for SocketChannel and then clicking on any of the returned links, in particular click on www.oracle.com/technetwork/servers-storage/ts-4222-159193.pdf.
This is the second time I have tried to search for Java information and both times found broken links.
Does anyone know where I can find more information on using a SocketChannel?

They have a huge investment in it and would need to replace or discontinue a number of products that they paid quite a bit of money for.
On the other hand in might just be that they don't much about providing support that doesn't lead to revenue. Thus support contracts have a support channel while public links get little support.

  • AutoFS/automountd broken in Mavericks?

Priot to upgradignto Mavericks (I was on Mountain Lion) I had AutoFS setup to mount two AFP volumes under /Volumes. Post upgrade this no longer works and in fact I cannot get any aspect of AutoFS/automountd to work.  Is this just me or is this completely broken in Mavericks?

How do you have AutoFS set up, exactly? Have you specified auto mounts in directory utility under Mounts, or did you edit /etc/auto_master? Either way, it would appear that Mavericks no longer allows you to specify auto mounts that mount underneath /Volumes. Here is a relevant discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23537689
    Two solutions.
    1. Specify a local mount point that consists of any path not underneath /Volumes. Example: /nas.
    2. Mount the volume through the finder, and once it shows up on your desktop, open up System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Self -> Login Items, and drag and drop the resulting mounted volume icon in there. It will re-mount on login.

  • Contacts Applescript dictionary broken in Mavericks?

So this script works fine in Mountain Lion, but is broken in Mavericks.  Apperntly, Applescript no longer knows the class "person" anymore, even though it's still listed in the Contacts dictionary.
    tell application "Contacts"
repeat with theName in every person
set theName2 to the name of theName as string
    display dialog theName2
              end repeat
    end tell
When I open this script under Mavericks, the person class has been replaced by  «class azf4»
When I try to replace that with "person" again and compile, I get "Expected class name but found identifier".
Running 10.9.2.  Anyone else see this?????

This question came up in this thread. The solution is to rebuild the launch services database. Run the following command in terminal:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.fram ework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
then quit and relaunch the Finder.

  • Java platform on mavericks:

I have a problem to use java platform on mavericks: When I open the preference panel tells me that java will open in a new window, but after you look at the doc briefly disappears and does not open. I installed the newest version of java. Also when using any program that uses the platform just happens, it gets stuck open. Mostly I like to have jdownloader running again.
    Best regards, thanks.

  • Why do I get an error message when installing latest version of Java in my Maverick system?

I have been trying t install Java 10.5 update 4 in my computer.  My compputer was upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.
Whenever I try the install Java, I get an error message saying Java for Mac 10.5 update 4 can't be installed on my disk, as that software can only be installed on Mac OS X Leopard.  I know Java 10.5 is the lattest version, so why can't I install in on my Mavericks system?

10.5 is too old for Mavericks.  You want the update from http://www.java.com/
Java 7v52 is the latest Java.

  • Finder broken in Mavericks

I am yet again stuck looking at a Finder window that is doing nothing - usually resulting in having to restart.
I know this is not just me.
My access to my QNAP external HD is so slow, or just fails to connect, making it unusable.  Each subsequent Mavericks update makes my machine worse - in fact, this OS is so unstable it's beyond a joke.
These forums are full of 'solutions' that don't work or, expect the user to mess around with arcane commands in Terminal.  This, is of course, the most advanced OS in the world according to Apple.  I have never experienced a company so breath-takingly arrogant and with such poor service for it's customers.
Simple things on an Apple take endless time or, just do not work at all.
No doubt this will be removed by Apple (they don't want to hear the truth).
Sorry for the rant - I've had 3 years of this rubbish now.
The world of Apple is appalling.
When funds allow I will cut my losses and throw my highly expensive machine in the trash.
My wife's Mac Air has similar problems.

  • Korean language broken in Mavericks mail

    Hi there!
I used both English and Korean language.
Sometimes, mail contents in Korean are broken when I receive email from Korean friends.
I tried to view message in raw source....no improvement.
Someone suggested text encoding...but I do not know how to change text encoding in Mavericks.
    Jay

What does it say in the "charset=" header
    charset="iso-8859-1"
    But another mail has nothing there, only "Content-Type: text/html";
The important thing is not whether this charset is correct or not. The important thing is that Apple has made my mail experience worse by this "upgrade", for no good reason!
Earlier, I could change encoding of mails (perhaps a badly encoded mail), but Apple has taken away that posibility for no good reason. It only affects old mails, before UTF became common. It is typical of Apple not to care about history, but for me, old mails constitute valuable history.
Rather than taking away an option to change the encoding (or interpretation of an encoding) of a mail, I think Apple should have enhanced the feature: Sometimes, it happens that only the subject line is erronously interpretated (mime endoding of non-us-ascii characters), and I would like to fix that. It has never been possible. (This problem can even happen today with some new mails auto-generated by machines, such as auto-replies.)

  • JAVA Broken :-(

I was on a chat yesterday with e-bay (yikes!) and found that I could not type the letter 't' on my keyboard. The chatmeister said it was because of a broken Java script and to go....
I also tried to access a website today and could not because it said I had to have Java installed.
So what's the deal, eh? My MacBook Pro is brand new. I see in SysProfiler that I have Java Plugin Settings 1.3.1 and 1.4.2; Java Cache Viewer 11.4.0, Java Web Start 11.3.0; Java Preferences 1.4.0 installed. I did a software update and it says I've got it all to now.
What could be broken, and how do I fix it?
Will appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks!
    Anais

    Hi
I have a similar problem, and I already tried clearing the cache via the java prefs. It did not help me at all.
Any other suggestions? Do I really need to reinstall OSX?

  • Help with a ridiculous half-broken Yosemite/Mavericks install?

    Hello all,
I hate Yosemite. It's the Windows 8 of OS X...with broken DNS to boot.
I was troubleshooting some video issues, and decided to try and see if the problem persisted in Yosemite.
I downloaded the installer from the App Store and begun the install process for an installation on a flash drive.
After the install completed, my iMac rebooted, and to my horror everything was Yosemite-y. I shut down and unplugged the flash drive.
My suspicions were true, Yosemite had gunked up my Mavericks installation pretty bad. The boot logo was Yosemite, and my mac booted to a Yosemite installer at startup. I tried using the "kind of mac bootloader" that is invoked with the option-key, but my Mavericks install didn't show up. Luckily my Mavericks Recovery Partition was bootable, and after 2 hours of trying different ways to find and mount my Mavericks partition, I was in. The reason that this took so long was because at every step of the way, Yosemite tried its hardest to hide my Mavericks partition. (A process resembling the acts of Malware). My Mavericks partition boots, but when I startup my mac, I am greeted with the Yosemite apple logo, and Yosemite option-key bootloader, and then my Mavericks login screen.
How did this Frankenstein of an OS even become of existence? I checked, and yes, Yosemite installed onto my flash drive, NOT my SSD, but it still shoved all the boot crap onto my Mavericks install.
Is this even fixable, or should I restore from Time Machine? I'd rather not have to reinstall, but will if needed.

Do a backup, preferably 2 seperate ones.
Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert Yosemite to Mavericks
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • Arduino Editor broken under Mavericks?

After being prompted to download java se 6 & performing the installation, I see all kinds of java errors in the editor - even a copy and paste produces errors. Anyone else seing this?

I do know that this procedure has restored Java 7 functionality to my machines.
hopefully Oracle will release a revised Java 7 that removes the offending files as part of its installation.
if you follow these steps, let me know the outcome.
    good luck!

  • Problems with Java Install on Mavericks

I'm attempting to install Java on my macbook pro with Mavericks 10.9.1 installed. After the install completes I attempt to verify in Safari/Firefox, but neither can verify the install. What can I do to complete the install and use Java? Or, can I not install Java on the OS? I've read in some places that Apple has discontinued support for JAva because of stability issues.

    https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_mac.xml
Have you looked at the Java site?
Apple does no longer support Java, but they don't support PhotoShop, either.
