JAVA caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7b9a6

Hi All,
This problem is bugging me for last two days. Actually I am trying to embed Internet Explorer inside Java application. Everything is working fine till I dont close the application window. But just when I close the window everything goes down. I am working on win98 platform and not sure if it is this reason. The exact error message I am getting is:

  • Invalid page fault in module cvirte.dll

I have updated two old programs using LabWindows 7.0 which were perviously created with an earlier version of LabWindows. I am having problems though updating a third program. I get an error stating...
Characerization (the name of the program) caused an invalid page fault in the module cvirte.dll at 0167:684b77f5.
The operating system that I am installing these program on is Windows 95.
I'm not sure where this error is coming from but I'm assuming there might be a problem when I build with LabWindows 7.0 and install to Windows 95. But, the previous two programs updated before this one have had no problems at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    JuanCarlos,
Thanks for you help. Since I have been getting this error, we did some system monitoring and noticed that when the system crashes, the CPU is running at 100%. It also crashes during debug mode as well. I have been putting in break points to specifically find a location. What we have come down to is that its writes the test information to a file, but crashes when the file is recalled within the program to process some results. As far as GPIB drivers, everything is correctly installed and since we are using old ISA slots, I have made sure there are no IRQ conflicts.
The funny thing is...this exact program works perfectly fine on another station but crashes on this current station! We need both fully functional though.
    Is there a
nything I should look for specifically to tell if its a GPIB problem? Anything specific for CVI problems?
    Thanks for you help!

What command did you use to launch the program?
The readme file explains how to set the path and classpath; if you've done that, try this command in a DOS window:
    java -version
    C:\>java -version
    java version "1.4.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0-b92)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0_01-b03, mixed mode)

A: You have an incompatible or corrupt ICC profile in your
    Windows/System/Color folder (win 98/98SE/Me) or ./system32/spool/drivers/color (win2k).
Make a temporary folder, ICMs, under and move all the
ICM and ICC files to that folder.
Start PS and make sure it restarts OK.
Now move back JUST THE PROFILES YOU NEED to Windows\System\Color (win 98/98SE/Me) or ./system32/spool/drivers/color (win2k)

  • Invalid Page fault in IMM32.dll on Japanese Win 98

    Hi
First of all, let me say that I'm new to internationalization fundamentals.
My Java application uses i18n.jar for internationalization support(primarily Japanese) and everything seems to be fine on all OSes(Win2k,NT,98,Solaris etc), except that in particular menu options in Japanese version of Win98(m/c has MS-IME 98 running), a Windows fatal error pops up saying "Javaw caused a invalid page fault in module IMM32.dll". IMM32.dll, I understand, is the dll required for i18n support in Windows.
This error comes up if we exit immediately after launching application or when trying to launch new windows for charts etc.
Could you please suggest a workaround or a fix to this issue? What could be the root cause of the problem, I mean, does i18n.jar use the IMM32.dll, or is it just a conflict? Have there been other such cases?
Thanks for all your advice in advance
    Regards
    Santosh

If Javaw is causing the page fault, that's very much a bug in native code (i.e. Windows-only stuff) within the VM.
Search through the bug database on this site, and you'll more than likely find a corresponding bug report for this if it's been around a while and is fairly easy to produce. If you can't find it, submit it - I'm sure the Sun guys would be concerned to hear that Javaw is crashing and burning.
    Hope that helps!

  • General Protection Fault in module WIN87EM.DLL while Running Windows XP Mode

I am attempting to run a legacy, 16-bit program, P3, on a Windows XP Mode Virtual Machine, hosted by a Windows 7 x64 box. When performing various activities in the program, I receive "P3 caused a General Protection Fault in module WIN87EM.DLL
at 0001:02C6." This occurs on multiple platforms (Core i5, Core 2 Duo).
Based on my research, I have found "The Windows 80x87 emulator library,
WIN87EM.DLL, works at the 16-bit-Windows level
to virtualize the coprocessor among multiple Windows-based applications that run inside the system VM."
It appears to me that, with the Virtual Machine using a Virtualized Processor (not related to the above reference to "virtualized coprocessor") as opposed to an emulated processor, the Virtual Math Coprocessor Device (VMCPD) and/or WIN87EM.DLL
generate an error from the virtualized processor (perhaps they do no recognize it?)
In addition "When the kernel loads an application, it checks to see if floating-point hardware is present. If a coprocessor is not present, the kernel uses the
fixup records to replace the actual floating-point instructions with
Interrupt 3x calls to emulation code in WIN87EM.DLL."
I have found some information that points to "hiding" the math coprocessor from the Virtual Machine, so it doesn't go to the processor. This apparently can be achieved by using a program called WinFloat which includes a tool called HIDE87, which is suppose
to hide the math coprocessor from the kernal.
The issue I'm running into is, to properly achieve this, HIDE87 must be loaded before Windows. I have tried a couple techniques, but I think I'm doing it wrong. I have tried adding the HIDE87 program to the System32 directory and then adding
HIDE87 (just before autocheck autochk *) to BootExecute under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
    key.
For a little more info, when you run HIDE87 from the command prompt it reads "HIDE87: Int 11h hook installed (must reboot to remove)." The documentation says this is what needs to occur before Windows loads. You can find WinFloat here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/97265.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

This link helped point me to winfloat to solve the very same issue with WIN87EM.dll crashing under Windows XP on VMware 5 for an old legacy Windows 3.1.  I thought I would mention that the original approach taken by tstock_sjc should work fine.   First
off, winfloat is a self extracting executable and we really don't want to run winfloat, but rather hide87.com which is a tiny TSR that is inside the winfloat archive.  When you run any DOS or Windows 3.1 executable, Windows XP first boots up (if one isn't
already running) a mini-MSDOS 5 environment called NTVDM.exe.   Just as with the original MSDOS, when the shell loads, it loads files similar to config.sys and autoexec.bat.   Of course, there are more restrictions on drivers and not everything
under MSDOS is emulated but nevertheless, it is a fairly good approximation of an MSDOS 5 environment.  The issue that tstock_sjc had was NTVDM.exe looks for %WINDIR%\system32\autoexec.nt and %WINDIR%\system32\config.nt instead of autoexec.bat
and config.sys.  If you extract hide87.com out of winfloat.exe and place it into the %WINDIR%\system32 directory and add a line like %SystemRoot%\system32\hide87.com to the end of autoexec.nt , NTVDM will indeed load this TSR before launching its emulated
copy of of Windows 3.1 (wowexec.exe).  When the 16 bit application is finally launched after wowexec.exe, the coprocessor is then masked.  It worked fine for me anyway (after applying changes and rebooting).  Under process monitor I could clearly
see NTVDM.exe reading autoexec.nt and hide87.com and the WIN87EM.dll GP fault went away.

  • Invalid page fault (only on one computer)

I keep receving a whole set of invalid page fault errors when I try to open my VI.
It is strange because the VI works perfectly on another, less powerful, computer running the same OS (Win98) and same version of LV (6.1)
    Does anyone have any advice?

What all is in your code? Are you doing anything with ActiveX? Which module does the fault occuring in? This is possible a hardware issue at this point. It is possible that this could be cause by faulty memory. A page fault is generated when errors occur while moving pages in between your system memory and virtual memory. Is this a very large application? Try running other large programs (large Word or Powerpoint documents, etc.) to see if you can reproduce the page fault there. Are there any other VIs that will generate this same fault? What other software do you have on your system?
Just a few guiding questions that might help determine were this page fault is generated.

  • LabVIEW 4.0 Invalid Page Fault Errors

I've got myself stumped on this problem - we had a LabVIEW based PC/DAQ system that started giving invalid page fault errors and crashing in Win95. This may have been concident with a revision to a vi file. To rectify the problem I've tried the following:
    1. Reinstall LabVIEW 4.0 with NI-DAQ 6.6
    2. Wipe HD, reinstall Win95, LV 40, NIDAQ 6.6
    3. Full HD scan and MEMTEST86 memory test
    4. Install on another PC
The PCs are P5-60 Gateways with 128 MB of RAM. DAQ config is 1 AT-AO-10 and 1 AT-MIO-16DE-10
Nothing seems to help. With a reinstall of LV40, I can get it to run, but once I copy the .vi files back into User.lib LV crashes.
Does LV40 look in User.lib upon startup and crash if it finds something it doesn't like? A corrupted vi?
    Thanks!

    Hi Blair Hogg,
I like your sence of humor ;-) Don't worry, even if nobody reads your
thread (well... I just did) you need to write MUCH more for it to be
considered clutter. Now, if you had created 25 duplicates of the same
thread, then  we would be talking about cluttering...
I'm curious about this issue even thought NI only supports LabVIEW two
versions back - officially. My guess is that a VI is corrupted and
kills LabVIEW when the VI loads. Therefore I do aggree that the
procedure from now on is to load every single VI one by one and then
notice what VI will make LabVIEW crash. I might be able to repair that
VI if you submit it to the thread.
Another thing to try is to mass compile the user.lib. The log after the
mass compile will show if any VIs were bad or had problems getting
    compiled.
Well, I hope you find the source for this issue - even if I'm the only one that cares ;-)

I usually sync between REA (a little organizer program) and Palm and my phone, but that crashed so I EXPORTED the address database (in a comma delimited form) then brought up the database in Works and cleaned it out of comma's and any bad records I could find.
I've tried uninstalling Palm Desktop AND doing a HARD reboot on my phone, then syncing with NO addresses.  That worked once.  But then when I imported the addresses in Palm Desktop, on the next HotSync it crashed again (invalid page fault).
