Java certification exam
I've been using Sun's Java Certification practice exam (WGS-PREX-J025B / http://suned.sun.com/US/certification/java/java_progj2se.html) and I'm wondering how similar the practice questions are to the actual exam.
I also downloaded the freebie version of JCertify (http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/tsc/sightings/S3.html) which seems more detailed and difficult than the above.
Any comments comparing these two practice exams to each other, or to the actual certification exam, will be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
as you surely know, nobody who actually did the exam can answer those questions because of an confidential statement you have to sign for taking the exam, BUT
for the programmer's exam I learned with the book "Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide", ISBN 0-7821-2825-4, did the sample questions in the book and the attched CD and... I took it successfully!
Good luck!

Java Certification Exams and Their Move to Pearson VUE
You may be aware that Oracle recently migrated all Sun-branded certification exams from Prometric to Pearson VUE. Here are answers to some frequently-asked questions that we've been getting recently: http://bit.ly/ORC-0596
I have the same issue, I purchased 3 exam packs from Prometric, when the new year started I was ok let's get to work, tired to schedule my first test, 70-247 I could not schedule no more, PearsonVue informed me that these vouchers are invalid for 3 tests
only for one, I went back and forth between Prometric, PearsonVue & Microsoft, Microsoft decided to take over case, but it has been since the end of the year and now we are in Feb. 2015 issue is still not resolved is it soooo hard to look at past records
and just issue single vouchers for the tests I purchased, do not know I will call them again this week, if it is not resolved I guess I will try Social Media or just cave in and ask for a refund, in which I do not want to I have worked hard studied hard, but
calling and going back and forth without no resolution is just a total was of time, I am not made of money at all......... -

Hai all. I have just finished sitting for my certification exam and passed with high marks. I have one study guide that I wrote myself for the exam. I can give to you if you need it.
bye.I think certifications are good things. There might even be a good debate about whether programming should try to become a more "professional" profession and only allow trained, certified practitioners, but that's another thread.
Having obtained a couple of Java certifications, they're like most degrees and courses. Once you have them, nobody much cares about what grades you got or how many of them you have. They base their impressions on one fundamental question: "Can you do this for me RIGHT NOW?" If you can, you're smart. If you can't, you've either got to learn quickly or fail. All the degrees and certifications in the world only help to the extent to which they equip you to learn new things.
I like knowing things at the bottom if I can, so I went back and took fundamental computer science courses at the start of my programming career. I didn't want to be a "learn VB in 21 days" kind of software guy. I wanted to know about algorithms and data structures and finte automata and decomposition and relational databases. I wanted to minimize the chances that I'd be scorned for not knowing the basics. I still read technical material as widely as I can.
I think that's been more important than my Java certifications. - MOD -
I was not able to understand the following things that were there in the course for the Certification Exam for Java 1.4
1. State the benefits of encapsulation in object oriented design and write code that implements tightly
encapsulated classes and the relationships "is a" and "has a".
2. Distinguish between correct and incorrect implementations of hashcode methods.
3.Write code that explicitly makes objects eligible for garbage collection.
Plz reply anyone with detailed explanation of all of these to help me out. Reply asap.I was not able to understand the following things

All-private attributes, no getters, no setters.

2. Distinguish between correct and incorrect

3.Write code that explicitly makes objects eligible
for garbage collection.
Answered in the other thread.
Plz reply anyone with detailed explanation of all of
these to help me out. Reply asap.Help you out with what? I'd say you're lacking too much experience to even think about taking the SCJP and understanding the stuff that's asked (as opposed to "learn everything by heart and fail during your next job interview, SCJP or not). -
I'm thinking of taking the Java Developer exam.
People who have done the Java Developer exam, could you please contribute with your help by answering these questions ?
1. How long did you program in Java before taking the exam on ?
2. How long did it take for you to complete the programming task ?
3. Was it more difficult than the Java Programmer exam ?
4. Is it worth to take it ?
5. What was the hardest part of the exam ?
Other comments on the Java Developer exam are welcomed as well.
Cheers
/AndreasHere is what I would recommend, based on my experience:
* Take the mock exams - the tests at javacertificate.com do a good job of helping you identify your strengths and weaknesses. Dan Chisholm's mock exams are tough, but also good for opening your eyes to some things you might not have thought about.
* Concentrate on your weaknesses (mine were assertions, garbage collections, and threads).
* Practice your butt off writing code. Practice, practice, practice. And DON'T use an IDE. Code with a simple text editor and compile from the command line. The test is going to tax your ability to "compile" in your head and you don't want an IDE doing that work for you.
* Familiarize yourself with the Exam objectives. Know those inside and out, and you'll have no trouble with the test. Don't waste time on non-covered topics (e.g. java.io, java.awt).
* Figure out why you want this certification. It's not going to win you any admirers among the gurus. It's probably not going to get you a job. It doesn't mean you can code your way out of a wet paper bag. It's just the start of your journey in Java.
For me, it was something I wanted to prove to myself - a self-taught, entry-level programmer at the time - I could get. It helped me tremendously in my understanding of basic Java, so I don't regret obtaining the cert one bit. I also realize I have a LONG way to go. So, good luck, study hard, practice, practice, practice, and let us know how you do! If I can be of any help, let me know. :o)

Hi,
I want to do a java certification SCJP, but I read online the exam is called OCPJP now. I have purchased a book 'SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065' for it. I want to know if SCJP and OCPJP mean the same so that the book I mentioned here is suitable to prepare for OCPJP. Kindly help.

Thanks.0) The exam will be very substantially unchanged AFAIK.
1) Compare the topics in your book compared to topics on the exam webpage. If you see any differences ... then you may need to do a little more research. Its quite normal for for exams to get an update from time to time, and often books can be less than up to date.
2) This thread covers the typical sort of detail changes to expect.
3) Does the book have a website where updates/errata are known? Look there.
4) There may be a couple note either in blogs.oracle.com/certification especially wrt the prometric to peason vue transition or the oracle to sun transition. I have other things to do in my life to search for this, espeically when the train i was to catch train decided to expire itself in a tunnel. This is probably a java software fault. -
Java certification & oracle database administrator certification
Hello,
On this page i can see all certification paths. But when i logged into my account, on pearsonvue.com, i issued 'Schedule an exam'. But there i can't find any java certification or oracle database administration certifications. So where can i find all the certifications for scheduling, shown on that page?
ThanksRoger22 wrote:

Thanks1) You need to drill down from that link to find individual exams ... eg 1z0-051, 1z0-052, etc ... for instance via:
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=198&p_org_id=&lang=
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_052
2) You may need to register on Pearson VUE particularly for Oracle.
(Prometric works much on on a one registration does all, Pearson VUe requires registration for each vendor, in general as far as I remember). But I was able to use my LPIC registered Pearson VUE for Oracle
To begin with ensure you go via http://www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/
3) Java exams, having come from Sun stewardship, are currently via Prometric.
See the Sun Transition FAQ (which is now VERY hard to locate unless you know what you are looking for!)

CertView - results in Certification\Exam History
Hi,
Can somebody explain when exam results should be visible in 'Certification History' and when in 'Exam History' in CertView?
I'm little confused because I thought when all exams for certificate are passed then results should not be visible in 'Exam History' only but also in 'Certification History'.
Two weeks ago I passed [1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert|http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=189] exam and after some problems I'm finally able to see result in CertView,
but it's in 'Exam History' only and i'm not sure is it correct or it's another problem because there are no more exams for this certificate so shouldn't be also marked as certificate under 'Certification History' ?

ThanksThe answer is that it should. And should be in shipment status soon also.
However there may be a lag between the two.
(Exam history load process may be different to certification evaluation process ... which is a set of rules).
And as Sun/Java Certifications are currently being loaded there may be a delay/problem that wouldn't normally occur.
Your OTN registration is today .. so that you've only just logged into certview ... so some problems with that may just have been cleared also.
My suggestion is to wait 2 days (or at least 24 hours) and if it doesn't correct itself raise an issue: http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP -

Java certification on platform 1.4
are there any books available to study for the SUN CERTIFIED PROGRAMMER FOR THE JAVA 2 PLATFORM 1.4.
Exam number: CX-310-035.Hi all,
I have recently purchased a java certification voucher against cash payment, but the centre from where I had purchased it didn't gave me any receipt for that. Now I am wondering if this is ok or I may face some problem afterwards when I go to the prometric center for getting registered.
I am absolute novice so please tell me what should I do? Also suggest me which certification should i opt for : the scjp for java 2 platform or the scjp for java 2 platform(v1.4).
Thanks in advance,
Rgds
