Java Console Doesn't Work/Show Up

I have been having an issue with the Java Plug-in Control Panel (in WinXP Control Panel) and some applications not appearing when started (ie. the java console, self-written applications, etc.). They come up in a window, but are greyed out. Sometimes the menu items and text boxes will appear when i click on the Console button, but nothing is accessible. I am running Win XP, and have reformatted and reinstalled to try to remedy this problem, but to no avail.
I tried changing the path under the advanced tab to my java install directory (from the default setting) after installation, but that did not help.
Any suggestions?

I seem to be getting the same problem. Whenever I load a Java program, including the Java plug-in in the control panel, the whole window is just grey, and I can't do anything. I have only recently re-formatted and installed. Prior to this it worked, and I'm using the same installation of Java.

  • Java applet doesn't work

    The website I use for developping my photos use a Java applet for the upload of pictures. When I try to use it with Firefox, it doesn't work but when I tried with Safari it worked.
    As I use Firefox all the time and not Safari, I would like to make it work there too.
    I tried by disabling all add-ons but it didn't make any difference. How can I fix it?

    I have enabled the Java console from the java control panel.
    And the error was:
    java.security.AccessControlException: access denied ("java.lang.RuntimePermission" "modifyThread")
    So I went to my java.policy file located in java.home/lib/security/ and I wrote the following
    grant codeBase "url or file where the applet is" {
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "modifyThread";
    And now the applet is working.
    Again, thank you for your support.

  • Java console doesn't launch when starting Java Web Start app from Firefox

    Updated my Linux desktop from RHEL to Fedora 12 with resultant upgrade of Firefox to 3.5.9 and now when I launch our Java Web Start application, no Java console appears. The Java Control Panel still shows "Show Console" as set. My app uses Java 1.5 which I have installed on my desktop.
    What do I do to properly configure my browser/desktop to support use of the Java console?
    Please help, I need to debug our app!

    ..Please help, I need to debug our app!Cannot tell you the answer to your FF hassles (because I have no idea why you're seeing that behaviour(1)), but note that you might be able side-step FF by launching a JWS app. using the javaws tool directly from the command line or an Ant build file.
    1) Though you might try rebooting the machine if any installation/configuration changes have occurred since last boot.
    Also note that many problems with JWS apps. can be sorted be checking the JNLP using JaNeLA.

  • X4200M2 Java Redirection doesn't work

    We recently received 4 servers. 1 server came with ILOM 1.0.1 (I think) and it was the first I set up. The Java redirection worked great! Ever since I upgraded to ILOM 1.1.1 the Java redirection has not worked. On shipping ILOM, when I chose 8 or 16 bit color, Safari had me download a jnlp file which when double-clicked, opened Java and prompted me for my ILOM password, etc. Since the upgrade to the newest version, when I click "Launch Redirection" (regardless of 8 or 16 bit) the ILOM's webserver hangs and it unresponsive. The only way I know how to get it to come back up is by pulling out the power plugs. How can I get Java redirection working again? Should I downgrade my ILOM and firmware?
    Edit: I see that this is a known issue. Guess I'll wait for the next release...

    Hi,
    I have the same issue with a X4100 M2 server, the only way to access the remote console is by writing directly the URL.
    Where did you see is a known issue? I have some other problem like, for some reason, the letter 'b' is sent continuously

  • Java console doesn't open from Firefox 3 with jre 6u10

    OS: XP SP3
    JRE: 1.6.0_10-b33
    Browser: Firefox 3.0.3
    Confirmed on a new profile, when Tools->Java Console is clicked, no console and the menu item becomes disabled

    Thanks for reporting the issue.
    In 6u10, the New Java Plug-In design has detached itself from a browser process which provides a more robust and enhanced experience. Developers can launch and configure their VM settings through an Applet. As a result, there is very little association between a browser process and Java runtime environment running Applets. In addition, with the new capabilities of the New Java Plug-In, there are more chances multiple VMs are launched within a web page. Therefore, it is no longer useful to launch Java Console via the browser menu as that will cause more confusion.

    I have submitted a bug reoprt, however. Thanks to your report, I realize the behavior on XP and Vista is different. XP does not open JC, but Vista does open JC. I have submitted a bug for this issue. http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6760484

  • Java Script doesn't work on Firefox 8?

    I have noticed that (some) Java Script does not work on Firefox 8.0. Is there a correction for this?

    Yep, go back to what works, appears to be the only real solution. But then you'd hardly be able to use Firefox as nothing is going to get fixed there only get broken.
    What does not work is
    # move, and resize of main window not allowed
    # that include wiping out a lot of keyword shortcuts that do that
    # various additional collateral damage
    The solutions (work arounds) that I can best offer are clumsy but can be found in

    As stated. I have a link in ~/.mozilla/plugin that points to test/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so, which is the java 6 update 21 runtime environment.

    Java programs using the jre outside the browser work.
    This is on Linux 32-bits, Slackware 13.0, kernel 2.6.34.

  • My Admin Console doesn't work properly

    I'm J2e novice. I've just installed J2EE bundle and noticed that something is wrong:
    1) Whenever I start Admin Console for domain1 (default settings) it looks and works worse than Samples Server Admin Console. Compare the screenshots on http://astro.ia.uz.zgora.pl/~nirgal/problem/sas.htm
    2) I can't undeploy any web application (the undeploy button inactive -> see screenshots) using the Admin Console whereas undeploying on Samples Server works properly.
    3) In general there is many error messages at the bottom edge of Admine Console window during any session.
    Greetings
    Maciej

    There are "Error on page" errors only (displayed on the bottom info bar in the window).
    These are warnings I found in the server.log:
    1) Spaces in your PATH have been detected. The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop. Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components.
    (I found no spaces in my PATH )
    2) default-locale attribute of locale-charset-info element has been deprecated and is being ignored. Use default-charset attribute of parameter-encoding element instead
    3) C:\Sun\AppServer\lib\install\applications\admingui\adminGUI_war\index_pl.html File Not Found
    (I found index.html in this directory. When I checked the file name to index_pl.html it didn't help.)
    Hello2 works properly, and there are no hello2 related errors. But I still can't undeploy it using Admin Console due to inactive 'Undeploy' button (I marked the hello2 checkbox).

  • Java JPopupMenu doesn't work on OSX

    Using OSX 10.6.4 and Java 1.6.0_22, the JPopupMenu doesn't appear to work.
    Simple code:
    public static void main(String args[]){
    final JPopupMenu popup = new JPopupMenu();
    popup.add(new JMenuItem("first"));
    JMenu sub = new JMenu("sub");
    sub.add(new JMenuItem("next level"));
    popup.add(sub);
    popup.setVisible(true);
    The 'first' item does respond if you click it, but the sub menu will never open, nor will the first item respond to a mouse over.
    Any ideas? Help would be very much appreciated

  • HT5642 Java applet doesn't work on my Mac

      I have the new Mountain Lion 10.82 software version on my Mac as I needed it to be able to use java applet update 11. I downloaded and installed the security fix java update 11 on  27th January 2013 and it worked for a couple of days fine but  now  a sign with "blocked plug-in" appears.  Even after installing it again it doesn't seem to work. Could anybody please help me?

    There's apparently another security bug in Java.
    Depending on what you're working with, you may be able to download and invoke the application outside of the browser — such as can be done with Minecraft — or you can both enable the Java JVM plug-in within the browser and also disable the version-check defenses in Xprotect (see the comments here for details) that are blocking the Java webstart stuff (again), if you need to run that stuff from the web browser.
    Otherwise, Oracle will likely be providing an update to block the most recent attacks.
    There are two other potential wrinkles here, where the Java JVM web plug-in disables itself after some interval of non-use, and there are also diagnostics issued when launching an app that isn't signed by a developer ID from Apple.  Java checks for its own signatures, and Apple checks for its signatures, and the Java apps aren't signed with the Apple keys.

  • Java application doesn't work with utf8 encoding in linux?

    I use Linux OS and local i18n resource file for Java internalization. Below is my source code. The Frame title can be internalized without any problem, but the button text can't be shown correctly. What is the problem with my code? It works fine in Windows XP.
    Locale locale = new Locale("zh", "CN");
              Locale.setDefault(locale);
              ResourceBundle rb = ResourceBundle.getBundle("ui/demo/i18n/ui_demo",locale);
              System.out.println(rb.getString("OK"));
              JFrame frame = new JFrame("");
              frame.setTitle(rb.getString("OK"));
              JButton button = new JButton(rb.getString("OK"));
              frame.add(button);
              frame.setSize(100, 100);
              frame.setVisible(true);

    What is the default encoding of the system, and what character encoding is used in the file?
    If they are both the same, no problem, if not, then you're going to have to do some converting.
    Edit: of course, I thought that Java used "?" for unknown characters. So, the "black boxes", might also, possibly, be font problems.
    Both of these are only educated guesses, don't take them as Gospel (and, in all likelyhood, they are probably both at least slightly off-base).thanks for this information. But if the problem is OS encoding, why the Frame title can be shown correctly?
