Java Desktop on Solaris 10 is running too slow

Hi.
This is my first post :-) I work on quite fast sun server with solaris 10. I connect to the server with XWin tool from cygwin. CDE works perfect, but i have problems with Java Desktop. When i open a window - for example terminal - the command prompt works fine i can write commands and answers are fast, but when i try to move the window with the mouse, desktop hangs up for about 30 seconds, sometimes longer. And when i use logout from menu it takes more than 3 minutes to logout the user. Maby someone knows a couse for this problem, or any solution.

How much memory do you have in your machine? JDS requires more RAM than CDE. If you're close to the edge, it's going to page out applications, and that will make it take longer when you switch to them.
You may want to add memory or just use a lighter-weight window manager.

When my application running, some of CPU have IDLE state = 0 and hold the CPU while another CPU have IDLE state 100. I think this is my bottleneck but I cannot find any solution for solve that.

APO - SNP Alert Macros running too slow

Hi,
We have created alert macros which run for next 27 weeks for 38000 Product-Location Combinations. They are running too slow.
We are deleting alerts externally using program /sapapo/amon_reorg and then running this macro with "ADD" . This macro slows down once it starts filling up alert table with 100,000 records. What are the best practices for writing the macro so that it runs fast ?.

Is it necessary to write all the alerts? What I mean is, do you filter the results when you view them through the Alert Monitor?
If your alert profile has a minimum threshold set for an alert type, then you can read this threshold in the macro and only write alerts that fall below the threshold.
e.g.
Step: Get Threshold Values : ( 1 Iterations :Initial;Initial )
    Action Box: Get Threshold Value
      LAYOUTVARIABLE_SET( 'Alert_Thresh' ;
      ALERT_PROFILE_THRESH( SDP_ALERT_PROFILE' ; '4100' ; 'I' ) )
Where SDP_ALERT_PROFILE is the profile that contain sthe minimum threshold you want to use and 4100 is the alert type. The I is for information, can use either W for Warning or E for Error as well.
Then use the variable Alert_Thresh to check if your value falls below this, only then write the alert.

FCP X running too slow

I am experiencing FCP running too slow, finding it hard to edit footage.

You are not the first to see this slow down.. But often by deleting render files can solve this slow down or restart the computer. I know this should not be so, but untill Apple make some fixes there is little to ad. You are actually doing everything right. And I assume you are using better formance not high quality.

Java web start application runs too slow...

Check your web server's access logs to see how many requests web start is sending for each jar. After you've loaded the application the first time, for each subsequent launch, if you've got everything configured right, you should only see requests for the JNLP file and maybe some gifs because web start should load everything else out of the cache (if you're using the version-based download protocol). Or if you're using the basic download protocol, then you might see requests for each jar file, but even in this case, if your web server is prepared to evaluate the last-updated attribute for each jar request and for jars that have not changed, respond with no actual payload and a header value of Not-Modified, then that should run almost as fast.
You might also want to consider changing the "check" attribute of the "update" element from "always" to "background" for a couple of reasons. It should allow your app to start sooner (but this means that you might have to launch once or twice after an update is applied to the web server before the update shows up on the workstation). Also, my impression is that "always" is broken and prevents web start from ever checking to see if your jnlp file has been updated if you launch your app from a web start shortcut - launching from a browser is less likely to have this problem, depending on how often your browser is configured to check for updated resources.

Can't launch Java Desktop in Solaris 10 X86

I've installed Solaris 10 for x86 with Jumpstart but I can't log on using Java Desktop--any Ideas?
PS, how do you set the screen resolution in CDE?

Let me know if it solved your issue. I have the same problem with solaris 10 b72... JDS cannot be loaded, and I come back to the login screen. But no problem with CDE.

Macbook air running too slow

My Macbook air is runnning too slow. I thought it was my internet service at home, but it is everywhere. Can someone help me clean out old or unneeded files? Thanks!

I wonder if there's some online activity going on (as it used to run OK) which is hogging CPU / memory?
If you open Activity Monitor and click on the "percentage" field it will order the processes so you can see which is taking up most.
You could try disconnecting from the internet to see if that makes a big improvement... if it does, maybe something wrong with a site you're visiting?

WSA running too slow

Hello citizens! I've been having lot of trouble with an WSA. It runs too slowly. Some times a web page is displayed 5 or 6 minutes after I requested it. Has anyone found this kind of trouble? If so I would really appreciate some advice:

There is something definitely wrong if it's taking 5 - 6 minutes to display a page. The best way to analyze this would be to work directly with Iron Port support.
Many things can be a factor in this.
How are you deployed, transparently or explicitly?
Are you doing authentication? If so, have you tried disabling auth?
Are you using internal or external DNS servers?
The WSA should be as fast as the network / DNS / authentication servers. Unless it is being over encumbered.
How many connections do you have running through it at once? You can check with the CLI command "rate".

my desktop TouchSmart300PC is running to slow, i used to go to all programs and select accesories and select defrag
and it would run and cancel all unwanted material. I cannot find a place to defrag on my computer.

You don't say which system you're running, but if it's Windows 7 you go to Accessories then System Tools and it's in there. I hope that helps

Itunes running too slow to use

I recently uploaded a lot of content into my itunes and moved it to an external hard drive. All of a sudden Itunes runs so slow it periodically freezes as I scroll down through my library. I uploaded about 60,000 songs to bring the total to about 67,000 and change. Do you think its the number of songs coupled with the fact that this is an old computer I am using (even though its a brand new external drive) that is causing the problem or could it be something else?

Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:

My downloads are making my computer run too slow - can I delete?

Help! Call me stupid, or computer illiterate or whatever. But, I don't know what to do. All of my music is stored in ITunes. My computer is running really slow and I am running out of space. Can I delete my music without losing it? Will it still be held in my Itunes account? Thanks for the help

You need some kind of backup. If you just delete it from your PC and keep it on your iPod, when you need to restore your iPod (and you will, at some point) your music will be lost.
You'll either have to reburn CDs you own, or repurchase music from the iTunes store.
