Java Enterprise System Tier 1 Hosts

Would REALLY appreciate if anyone has a comparison site or comments for Java Enterprise System hosts. Preferably:
- Cost effective Tier 1 providers
- Bonus points for hosts that take care of migration/configuration + federated identity experience.
Thank you kindly in advance!

We are currently running RHE3.

I have installed 2005q1 parts in my solaris 5.8 box and had some problems running sussessfully portal server and access manager. So I had to uninstall them again.
The uninstaller from /var/sadm/prod/entsys/uninstaller did not give me option to un install all components, so I have removed some packegs using pkgrm command.
Now I am trying to reinstall webserver/directory server/access manager again and now getting the follwoing problems.

it seems that you have not uninstalled the previous entire installation. You can clear all installation manually. first, you need remove all information about your previour installation in "/var/sadm/install/productregistry" file, and then deleted the previous installation directory , now suppose you can reinstall it successfully again, good luck!

  • Install problems - Java Enterprise System Directory Server on AS3.0

I'm trying to get the new 5.2p3 version of the DS installed, using the Java Enterprise System installer, but am having some problems. I've attempted to install this one two separate systems, both running RHEL AS3.0 Update 4 - one worked great, the other not so much.
On the system that failed, the install reported success, but it failed to create the appropriate directories for the instance (slapd-<instance>) or the scripts for the admin server (start-admin, stop-admin). It's like it's not actually creating the instance properly on this system (even though it works properly on the other).
Has anyone run into this, or have any ideas how to get this to install properly? I'm fairly new to this software, but this is driving me insane - two similar systems, same OS, very different results...
Any help would be most appreciated...

I had a similar problem with SuSE. You might want to make sure that no JRE is installed prior to your 10g Forms and Reports Server installation. I got rid of the OS installed JRE, and the 10g installation went fine.

  • Java Desktop System Login to Zone?

    Hi all.
I have installed Solaris 10 (Kernel version: SunOS 5.10 Generic_137138-09) for i386. I have created a single non-global zone which runs happily and that non-global zone can be accessed with SSH remotely and locally by root. Zlogin also works for my zone. Additionally, the zone seems to be running an X server because if i "ssh -X myzone" I can run graphical applications in my zone (like xclock) from the Java Desktop System in my global zone.
Now, what I would like to do, if possible, is to login with the full Java Desktop System to my non-global zone. When presented with the graphical login screen on the console I choose "Options" then "Remote Login" then "Choose Host From List", I see my non-global zone on the list. So I then highlight my non-global zone and click "OK". I am returned to the login screen. But it still says "Welcome to <my global zone>", and when I logon I am still in the global zone. I also tried typing in the non-global zone name in Options -> Remote Login -> Enter Host Name, but still no luck.
So, what might I need to do to login with the Java Desktop System to my non-global zone?
    Thanks in advance!!
    John

Is there any particular reason why you did the minimum install? I perform an "Entire Distribution without OEM SUpport" installation, and select everything except the Documentation (since there is no documentation CD - go figure) and the Java Enterprise System (since I do not need to run those servers). I do install the Companion CD which contains a lot of the software.
When the installation is finished, the Java Desktop System is up and running, after tweaking XFree86, of course.
Unless you are **REALLY** hurting for disk space, you might as well install the entire distribution. They claim that you need 9 GB or so, but in reality I've been able to install it on a 4 GB hard drive.
As to where exactly it's located, I'm not sure because it's always been installed for me. If you can, reinstall with an Entire Distribution and the additional software selections that I mentioned. You'll have JDS.

  • FYI: Java Enterprise warning: "How to break a Sun box & repair it again"

    Hi there,
Because of the news that the Java enterprise will be opened up I decided to replace the version I got on my 03/05 media kit with the one being made available right now. Nothing wrong there but the upgrade can be a little tricky since you're adviced to do this manually. Nothing wrong there but I decided to uninstall the current version (Q1) and then re-install the current one (Q4). Only problem; only after I tried installing the Directory server from the current release and uninstalled it.
This resulted in a little chaos, which was entirely my fault. After entirely uninstalling the Q4 release I tried to remove the Q1 parts. But because the uninstall program (/var/sadm/prod/SUNWentsys4) was already removed I didn't have much alternatives (or so I thought).
So last night I drank a little too much beer and then went on the "cleaning up" rampage. In my drunken mind I figured "remove all Java enterprise components = uninstalling the whole product". While this idea might make sense, it starts to become an horror story when you realize, like I now do, that the Java enterprise system replaces certain packages on your Solaris 10 system. Packages like, for example, SUNWtls, SUNWjss and (don't laugh) SUNWcsl. So what happens if you simply manually pkgrm the lot ? Well, you'll do the math but I'll give you a little hint by saying that SUNWcsl has something to do with PAM :-)
So here I was; behind my nice Blade 100 with CDRom & 512Mb memory (soon to be doubled) but with a PC USB keyboard and optical mouse. Its a little hard to press stop-a using a PC keyboard and I got stuck since I removed some very important packages. Reinstall? I don't think so, we're using Unix here and there is always a way around your misery.
In my case I merely attached a nullmodem cable to the Blade, hooked it onto my Linux workstation, removed keyboard & mouse and started minicom (9600N81). After putting the first install CD (thanks Sun :)) in the drive I booted the system, send a break, booted the CD and exited the installer. Now I was basicly home free since I could mount my system's slices in /tmp/rescue, access the LAN and use pkgadd (pkgadd -d ./ -R /tmp/rescue) to manually re-install the missing packages which disallowed me from logging in. (tip: if you just need a rescue environment quickly just "boot cdrom -s" for single user mode).
And here I am again, back from the wrecked, typing and studying (Java) on my trusted Blade box again. The moral of this story: Don't drink & "quickly" admin a Sun server, its not worth the risk.
I've picked up these hints from several websites but didn't encounter anything like this in these forums. I have to admit not having searched very hard (I only googled and used SunSolve) but I figured that this isn't highly classified info so decided to dump it here too for everyone to see. Just remember that doing something horribly stupid like I did doesn't always mean you have to re-install. You'll learn and gain much more experience by fixing things.

    You don't have a problem.
The MS jvm is not present in the computer. If it was, it would show in IE Tools...Advanced list along with the Sun jvm (There would also be an entry for the MS console in the IE View menu - as opposed to the entry that the Sun console places in the IE Tools menu.)
The Sun Control Panel is ignorant of the MS jvm (if it's installed).
I don't use Firefox, but understand that the Control Panel is also ignorant of it; its install/activation is currently done outside of the Control Panel. You can probably find more info at the Firefox site.
The vulnerability existed in both the MS and Sun (and other) jvm's but you are using a fixed version, as this reference lists:

  • Enterprise System 5 support for Windows 2003 server

    Hi,
Can you tell me if it is possible to run Sun Java Enterprise System 5 on a windows server and get the portal server to work?
Weare currently using JBoss ... and not very keen on it as a portal server.
I tried installing ES5 but was unable to get the portal server to play, then i read something about no support for windows 2003 in ES5.
Can someone confirm if this is true, unfortunately I am tied into using a windows server for lots of reasons. Is the download for ES4 still available? I believe Portal 6.0 instead of 7 is still ok for windows Server 2003 ?
If Portal 7.0 will play with windows, is there a guide somewhere that you can point me to as I am totally new to portals and could use a bit of an idiots guide.
    Any info welcome !!
    Cheers

The support for Sun Java System Portal Server on Windows in Java Enterprise System 5 is limited to evaluation and development only. The Windows distribution for Portal Server (PS 7.1 Update 2) is provided as a pre-configured install. To install it, you unzip the file, and run a small setup script to change the hostname information. The pre-configured installation is setup with a fixed install location, ports, etc. so it is not really suitable for a deployment for that reason. Once installed, all of the functionality is there otherwise except the ability to patch the system.
Note: I just tried going through the download links, and there is something broken in the Sun download center. I've sent an internal notification about this.

  • Java and enterprise systems

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on using "java to develop enterprise systems".
I'm a little confused about it all, about the features of jave which support enterprise systems and the different tools that can be used, and also how java might be used in an enterprise context.
If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Thanks for replying, I will take a look at those links.
Like I mentioned earlier the sort of thing I'm looking into is:
    - The features of java that support enterprise systems
    - Tools that support java development
    - And an example that i could look into further where java has been used in a enterprise context.
I have very brief knowledge of J2ee and EJB's so this is all sort of over my head and just sort of need a point in the right directio of things I should be looking into. If you can point me the right way I would really appreciate it.

  • X64 Oracle 11g R2 Install On i7 3770 Windows 7 x64 Enterprise System Fails

x64 Oracle 11gR2 installation on my new Windows 7 x64 Enterprise system fails after the "Desktop/Server Class" screen. I click Next, and then nothing happens. The install app closes and no installation logs are available. I checked the Windows logs and there is nothing obvious.
My new system has an Intel i7 3770 cpu with 32GB of ram. My old system had twin Intel Xeon EM64T cpus with 3GB of ram. Both systems ran Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. x64 Oracle 11gR2 installed and ran fine on the old system, but the old system started making "funny" noises and had to be replaced.
This is my personal system, not a commercial installation. I got Win 7 x64 Enterprise from my community college, which is a Microsoft Partner. I need Oracle for my relational database classes.
    The story so far:
    1. I downloaded win64_11gR2_database_1of2 and win64_11gR2_database_2of2 and unpacked both of them into a folder named win64_11gR2_database_install, replacing as necessary.
    2. I set up a loopback adapter and added the following entry to c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts:
10.10.10.10 localhost PaulK-PC # Loopback Adapter for Oracle 11gR2 Install
    3. After creating the loopback adapter, I restarted my PC. I can ping the adapter with no problems.
    4. I ran c:\Users\PaulK\Downloads\Oracle\win64_11gR2_database_install\database\setup.exe as Administrator.
    5. I skipped email notification, since I don't have a support agreement.
    6. I select "Create and configure a database".
    7. Whether I select Desktop Class or Server Class, when I click Next, the installation app dies.
Page 2-2 of Oracle Database Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Windows E24186-01 states that an x64 installation of Oracle requires an AMD64 or EM64T cpu. Does this mean I need to install the x86 version of Oracle 11gR2, or is there some other problem?
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Java Desktop System Release 3 - Login problems

    Hi all,
This is my first post here so apologies if I'm in the wrong area. I've recently installed Solaris 10 (5.10 Generic_118833-36) onto a V245. I wanted to see if I could get the gui desktop to work so I downloaded/installed Hummingbird Exceed on to my Windows XP workstation. Having launched Exceed XDMCP broadcast I could see my host in the list so I selected and clicked OK. I was instantly presented with the blue login shell, so good so far. In options, sessions I chose Java Desktop System release 3. When I tried to login as root the login shell just dies and disappears but If I use a non-root account it takes me all the way in to the desktop gui. The same thing happens if I use select CDE as the session type as well.
So my question is how do you login as root?
I gues it's a config file somehwere that needs a tweak but I've not been able to find anything helpful on Goolge so far.
    Any help is most appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jon Barker

I just removed the locales using the same tool and I can log in now.
Does anyone have any idea why this is or the correct way to install extra locales ?
    Thanks

  • Copy VMWare image of Java only system

    Hello,
We are running an SAP Java only System (NW 7.0) with a MSSQL 2000 DB on Windows running VMWare. We are trying to create a clone of that server to create another JAVA only SAP system.
We have changed the Computer Name in MSSQL and that is up and running. We have also changed the instance profile paramters to point to the new Server name.
    Couple questions:
    1) Is this possible to do with a JAVA only system?
    2) The JControl process keeps failing. I've changed the instance.properties file to point to the new server host and when I start the system it keeps pointing back at the old one. Is this file defined somewhere else?
Has anyone done this before or tried it? If you have, can you provide any tips or tricks on how to accomplish this.
    Thanks,
    Dale Dingmann

For copyng systems, you need to use systemcopy procedure,
is fully supported : --> System Copy and Migration
P.S. in your situation i'm think good to read -->

  • NW04S Java - Distributed System. DB Instance migration to new hardware.

Hi, I have a distributed NW04S Java only system. CI and CSC on Host A and DB on host B.
1.We want to move the DB instance from Host B to Host C. We will move the database from B to C using Oracle methods. What are the steps that need to be done on the CI/SCS instances/Host A to make the application connect to the DB on host C instead of B.
    2. The new DB host is actually a node of 2 node MSCS setup. How can we enable clustering for the DB instance alone and still make the CI?SCS connect to the clustered DB?
For unavoidable reasons we do not want to follow the sapinst/jload system copy method.
    Any directions, higly appreciated.
    Thanks-Gopalan

Hi, I ve managed to get this working.
    3 simple steps
    1. Change db host entries in the Default profile
    2. Change tnsnames.ora to new DB host in usr..\profile\oracle\ in the App Host.
    3. Change host name in secure store on app server using config tool.
    Thanks
    Gopalan

These are innocuous errors that you may safely ignore. However the disk error is a problem. Do the following:
    Repairing the Hard Drive
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
