Java for Safari 5.1.5 under Win7/64 SP1
Hello,
the subject says it all:
I'm running Safari 5.1.5 und a Win7/64 SP1 Laptop with Java 6_31 installed. Java is installed in both versions, 32bit and 64bit.
But Safari is not able to start Java, although the Java-Plugin for Safari is installed.
Is it possible to configure Safari to use/search for Java under "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files"?
I think that is the main problem, but I may be false...
Or has anyone solved that problem with another trick?
Thanks in advance - Matthias

Enable java for safari 4.1.3
Can this be done? I have an internet provider that states that my mac osx 10.4.11 and safari 4.1.3 require java scripts before I can use their system. Huh? does my system support java?

Javascripts are completely different to Java. In the location Carolyn mentioned, make sure that Javascript is enabled, but there is no need to activate Java.
But I have to say that I have never heard of an internet connection requiring Javascript, although a number of websites do.

Java for Safari doesn't work correctly at YouTube
We are trying to use the Advanced Upload Tool at YouTube, but it does not show us all of our hard drives. Only the Macintosh HD - and we have two other drives we've mounted into one 4 TB drive and that is where we store our videos. I haven't been able to find anywhere to change this.
HI,
Try repairing disk permissions...
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Also, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Relaunch Safari. See if that makes a difference. -
Java require to open mybank login
Try asking in the appropriate Mac OS X forum. This is the iPad forum and iPads, again, cannot run Java, and this thread is almost two years old. Note as well that Java and JavaScript are, despite the similarity in names, completely different technologies.

I have downloaded safari for windows because it is way faster and easier and first i just had Java.
then i downloaded it again because some site said it was too old i guess (don't know for sure)
but however i downloaded it again and updated it and it now i don't have java for safari anymore...
at the options screen:security i still have them all on and on IE and firefox java still works.
is there any special version of java i need to download especially for safari and howmany bit version do i need???
can anyone please send me the link i've tried to reinstall java again and downloaded all 2 versions of windows based java's and still: nothing.
can anyone help me with this???Java is no longer installed by default in 10.8, but Software Update will automatically download it when you run a program that requires it. Alternatively, to prompt the system to install it, you can open Terminal from your Utilities folder and simply type the word "java" (and hit return) at the text prompt. Then run Software Update.

I've recently gotten a new Windows 8 computer. Ever since, I've tried accessing certain websites (like www.cnet.com) and can't get the java scripts to load like for the drop down menus. When I hover over them they don't do anything. Other computers I have that run Windows 7 are working just fine.
I've upgraded Firefox and Java to all of the newest versions but it's still not working. When I go to the Java control panel, under "Advanced" and under "Default Java for browsers", the check box next to "Mozilla family" won't stay checked. I'll check it, click "Apply" and "Ok" and then when I open it back up it's unchecked again.

The dom.w3c_touch_events.enabled was already set to 0.
I don't have a "dom.w3c_touch_events.expose" line. Is that something I should? -
When will safari be fixed to update for java for mac os x 10.6 update 5?
The Jave for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 5 seems to have created some broblems with browsing in Safari. Specifically, when browsing pages which use Java to autoload additional content, the additional content never appears. Will Apple be sending out a fix to Safari to address this issue? Or is there some setting in Safari that I could use to overcome this change in Java to restore the previous browsing behavior?
These can all be ignored. Nothing to worry about, nothing to repair. See this recent thread.

Safari 5.1.5 opens slowly under Win7 x64
Hi,
since the last two versions of safari it starts realy slowly. The browsing experience itself is fast and no problems at all ... just when opening something "in a new window" or opening safari itself ... it takes up to 15 seconds... oO
no problems with ie or firefox ... any ideas what could the problem be?

2x Kingston 240GB SSD im Raid0By root, I am referring to the part of your hard drive where the Mac OS is installed. I am using Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, and when looking at the finder window, on the left hand side under "Devices" your primary hard drive should be listed (with a picture that looks like a hard drive and a name). When you single click on this hard drive you should see some files and folders. This is what I refer to as the "root" directory. At this point, you should see a folder named "library". If you open up the library folder you should find another folder named InputManagers. If you have Inquisitor for Safari installed on my Mac, then when you open up this InputManagers folder, you should find a file or folder named "Inquisitor". Drag this to the trash and your issues with Safari (as described above) should be fixed.
This has worked for me. And the new Safari is behaving better regarding launching new windows from the search bar.
Hope this has helped -
Crash Report is printed in the Box under Problem Report for Safari
It states in the Problem Report for Safari, that a Crash Report will be sent to Apple automatically, but I'm also posting it here in the forum based on articles I read after last post because it continues to "quit unexpectedly" when I try to launch the application. I have done a permissions and disk repair.

HT1338 Java on Safari 10.6.8
how do I load or upgrade java on Safari 10.6.8
Apple barred Java from running on Macs in order to safeguard users by blocking Java 7 Update 11 and adding it to the banned list in XProtect.
This was the second time in two weeks that Apple had blocked Oracle's code from running on Macs. The threat was so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had recommended that all Java 7 users disable or uninstall the software until a patch was issued. This time Java is blocked through Apple's XProtect anti-malware feature.
Java has come under fire as the means by which hackers have been able to gain control of computers. In April 2012 more than 600,000 Macs were reported to have been infected with a Flashback Trojan horse that was being installed on people's computers with the help of Java exploits. Then in August Macs were again at risk due to a flaw in Java, this time around, there was good news for Mac users: Thanks to changes Apple has made, most of us were safe from the threat.
Unwilling to leave its customers open to potential threats Apple decided it's safer to block Java entirely.
In order to block older versions of Flash, Apple has updated its "Xprotect.plist" file so that any versions that come before the current one (version 11.6.602.171) cannot be used on a Mac. Users who have older versions of Flash installed will be greeted with an alert that says "Blocked plug-in," and Safari will prompt the user to update to a newer version.
Macs running OS X Snow Leopard and beyond are affected.
UPDATE for those running Lion or Mountain Lion:
Oracle on Friday February 1 released a new version reportedly addressing vulnerabilities seen with the last build.
Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.
Update for Snow Leopard users:
Apple issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Note: On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
If, after installing Java for OS X 2013-002 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US
Further update:
Apple issued this Java related security update No. 13 on February 19:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5666
and Update No. 14 on March 4: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5677
You should also read this:
https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5672
The standard recommendation is for users to turn off Java except when they have to use it on known and trusted websites (like their bank). Javascript, which is unrelated despite the name, can be left on.

I did software update, now java in Safari doesn't work.
I ran software update, now Java in Safari and Firefox doesn't work. How do I fix it?
I already tried that.
I am running OS 10.6.8.
I did a "normal" software update (under the Apple icon).. didn't update the OS to a higher level, it's still 10.6.8. But now certain websites tell me that Java is missing or not working. When I go to the Java site, they say that you can only download the newest Java for OS 7 or higher... that Java is automatically part of OS 6 and should have automatically updated when I do a Mac software update.
Java used to work. Now that I've "updated" my Mac software, it doesn't work. And there's no way to download and install Java (according to them).
It's a never ending circle with no solution. -
How do I enable java for a given website
I cannot seem to enable Java in Safari for any given Website. There is no instructions for doing so. All that is presented when under Preferences > Security > Enable Java "Manage Website Settings" is a blank frame with nothing to select or check or type in. I am stumped.
BruceGIs your version of Java updated?

Possible Java for OS X 2013-005 malware on my MBP?
Hello all, so I was looking for some android file transfer software for my MBP (running maverick OS) the other day and I got a pop up asking me to install java. One of the apps had said it was cloud based, so i figured the java went with it. It prompted me to install Java for OS X 2013-005. I did so.
Afterwards I had heard that Java is not good to have on macs due to vulnerabilities. So i looked into uninstalling it.
I found a way using terminal with sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin and also a way where I search for JavaAppletPlugin.plugin and delete that.
I tried to do both and did not find java....this worried me. I also saw that the latest version of Java is Java for OS X 2014....So I was wondering why it asked me to install an older version....
Did I somehow install malware on my mac? And if so, how do I check and get rid of it?1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be a series of messages in the Terminal window like this:
[Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
[Process completed]
The messages won't be spaced equally apart in time, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it. Then go to the next step.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

HT5242 Enable Java in Safari Security
Under Security in Safari Preferences, should I enable Java for Web content or leave it unchecked (it was recommended to deselect this as a precaution).
It is best to leave it un-checked. Today's security update will remove the Java trojan but there is always the possibility of another variant appearing.
If you need Java for a particular website you can always enable it again, but there are few websites that require Java. -
Problem with Java and safari with 10.6.8
Everytime I try to load a game from Pogo.com the window that actually loads the Java, closes before the actual game can be loaded. Safari isn't crashing.... Its just closing the window. There's no error report or anything. Any ideas?
Java is enabled. Data has been cleared in Java preferences.I just got off phone with AppleCare about same issue. Here is how to fix:
How to reinstall Java for 10.6.8:
- Go to: /System/Library/Java/Support/CoreDeploy.bundle/Contents
- Move: javaAppletPlugin.plugin to the trash
- Run update --- Found at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
- Reset safari
- Empty cache
