Java Fx Linux release update
Hi all, I was wondering if I could get a status update on the progress of the official JavaFx for Linux?
Hi Josh,
I actually read that after looking around a bit. I was just suggesting that you state something on the downloads page that its under way. As it is now, it looks as if there is no plan to support either platform. Also , you must get tired of answering this question :-)

Problem installing Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 from Oracle e-Delivery
Hello
I have been trying to install Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 from Oracle e-Delivery so that I can install Oracle 11g express edition beta.
Here are the steps that I took and the problem that I am having:
1. I downloaded the file, unzipped the file twice, which gave me 3,042 files and 13 folders with the total size = 3.07 GB.
2. I put in the DVD and restarted my PC hoping that my PC will boot from the DVD, but instead Window started.
I reported this issue to tech support from e-Delivery, but they referred me to contact you. Please assist.
Julia3,042 files and 13 folders with the total size = 3.07 GBWhich download .zip did you choose from edelivery? Under linux-x64 I peeked "Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 for x86_64 (64 Bit) - DVD" file V15099-01.zip downloaded, it has just the one .iso file. You'll need to burn that to DVD, but with burn s/w that handles ISO files.
Also keep in mind you'll need 64 bit hardware (amd/intel 64? itanium? those are different), the only *nix platform I've got handy to try it out is -x86 :( -

Oracle 11g or 10g is not certified wiht OEL or RHEH6 yet. Please use OEL 5.x version which you can download from edelivery.

How good is java in linux?
I am a linux newbie and was planning to put linux on computer. I wanted to know how good java performs under linux. Is it faster? Is it slower? Also, I seen many people asking for help installing the 1.4.1 implementation. Is it tough to install java on linux ? Note: I plan on installing YellowDog Linux 3.0 when it's released on cd. YellowDog is for PPC's and I'm installing it because I've never had the chance to develop with the Java2 platform on Mac OS because my computer's G3 just can't handle OS X.
Thanks.I don't know if there is a Linux-PPC version of Java available. And the versions listed on the download page for "Linux" are i386-based (unless otherwise explicitly specified).
As far as Linux, goes: learn the system first before you try to jump into programming on it. "Raw" Unix-systems are VERY different, especially if you're coming straight from a Mac-OS. Get a good book and work through it. Linux is getting better at being a good "out-of-the-box" experience, but there's a lot of stuff in there... -
Avast sometimes warns me of Firefox and Java being insecure and out of date, but only when running Firefox. After such a warning I tried updating from FireFox's 'About' window. It soon got stuck, reporting 'Downloading update - 6.4 M of 10.1 M' for an hour, on the release update channel. I had given up and started to note details on a Notepad file when it finished quickly, which means I can't be sure about the 6.4 M of 10.1.
This is on a Sony Vaio notebook with Windows Vista. I have no problem updating Internet Explorer.
I can't install the Troubleshooting thing because I have to click Restart to Update to see if the update I was trying to do has worked.Download the Firefox 20.0.1 from official site

For webstart apps., the procedure is along the lines of..
- Install the other JRE.
- Open the [Java Control Panel|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/apps/player.jnlp]
- In Win/Linux that will open showing the Java Cache Viewer, close it and..
- Navigate to the Java tab
- View the Java Application Runtime Settings
- Find or Add the other JRE as needed.
For applets, do the same, but from the Java Applets Runtime Settings, View button. -
Java Desktop System, Release 2 - Error activating XKB configuration
Hi,
There is know problem with Java Desktop System, Release 2:
If you log in using accessibility features on the Java
Desktop System for the Solaris platform, the following
error dialog might appear: Error activating XKB configuration.
How can I solve this problem? Can I disable accessibility features (especially when I log in using NoMachine NX Client)?
Thanks,
RafalI have been trying to install Oracle version 10g on Sun Java Desktop System Release 2 (Linux) but unable to do so.Some error message?
Can I install Oracle on Sun Java Desktop System Release 2 (Linux)? How to do that?As far I know Sun JDS release 2 is based on SuSE so check Suse related installation papers.
You can find them on http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/index.html
What version of Oracle ver 10g Release 1 should I download?Depends on architecture (CPU) and installed OS version (32bit, 64bit). -
Oracle Linux Patching/Updates Impact on Oracle Database
I have several questions regarding Oracle Linux patching and its impact on Oracle Database.
3 node Cluster
Operating System: Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2
Kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.22.0.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Grid Infrastructure: Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2)
Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.2) with RAC option
ASM with ASMLib is being used for Data and FRA.
*1)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying only Security Patches require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*2)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying Bug Fixes and Security Patches to Oracle Linux 5 update 2 require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*3)* Given your updating from Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2 to Oracle Linux Release 5 update 8, will this require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
I would most whole heartedly appreciate if someone could answer the specific questions asked, inline if possible. Our System Administrator is preparing to perform some patching and as the DBA I'd like to be certain what changes I need to prepare for? I also have a single instance database setup with Oracle Restart. I don't know if this impacts the answers above.
Thanks in advance. How do you plan to apply Oracle Linux security patches? As far as I'm aware the yum security plug-in does not work with the Oracle public yum repository and there is no really feasible way to automate and determine security related patches only, unless you setup Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (11g) or Cloud (12c) and have a subscription to Oracle ULN.
If you upgrade your Oracle Linux to the latest available version using the public yum repository, all patches, including errata will be applied. You cannot apply patches and stay on a specific release version unless you have a subscription and appropriate yum repository access.
As far as I'm aware there are no changes required to your Oracle database or ASM setup and configuration when updating the OS, provided the version of the Oracle database is supported for the specific OS version (ASM features like ADVM/ACFS are kernel version depending). Upgrading from one major release to another, such as upgrading Oracle Linux 5 to Oracle Linux 6 is not supported and will require upgrading the Oracle Database to 11.2.0.3. You can check the Oracle database certification matrix to determine which Oracle database release version is required for which OS version http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e23558/toc.htm
The relinking of Oracle Database binaries is a common practice when updating the OS. I do not think it is necessary under Linux. Oracle binaries are typically standalone applications, or use Oracle provided libraries, or in some cases use OS shared libraries, which does not require relinking of Oracle binaries. Upgrading the Oracle database software of course requires relinking.

Installation problem oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5
hello support,
i've installation problems with oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5. In the section "ORACLE Net-Konfigurationsassisten" the failure "[INS-20802] Oracle NET-Konfigurationsassistent not success". What's wrong? I've followed the instructions on http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley-11gr1-install.html
I've heard the problem can occur with problems in /etc/hosts? My /etc/hosts is configured:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 oracle localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
is this ok? what can I do to bring the database-installation to success?
Thank's for help ;-)

I am trying to use a website that requires that my computer have the latest version of Java, which I have updated and installed Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit), however Firefox does not recognize that I even have Java on my computer. My computer is 64-bit
When I run "Verify Java Version" it show nothing is installed... but it is, I know that for a fact because it shows in my "Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features".
When I go back to the Java Download page, the following message is visible:
"We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 32-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers."
My question is this:
Is there a way to change my Firefox browser from 32-bit to 64-bit.... because it appears that this is way Java is not functioning properly?Firefox needs 32-bit plugins, so you'll need to install 32-bit Java for Firefox.
No, you can't change Firefox from 32-bt to 64-bit. There is a Nightly 64-bit version (alpha) of Firefox, but it is used only to test for regressions until development is resumed. -

Under the Mac Yosemite 10.10.2 O.S. -- the System Preferences: Java pane/ctrl-panel: Update-tab-function no-longer works, after updting to Java 8v40 JRE & SDK -- says that the internet connection is not valid !
A few questions....I assume your network is connected to the Internet? Do you use a proxy? If so, is it set in the browser or in the Java Control Panel?

I wonder if somebody can help me. I am not able to use my internet bank anymore, since Java launched their latest update (7.51) a few days ago. Appearently this one is not compatible with my hardware. I am using Mac OSX version 10.6.8, and Java version 17.0, which seems to be the newest one for my op sys. Anybody know how I can solve this? In advance thank you!

Configure dial-up connection in Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 4-3.7.11
Hallo!I have just finished installing Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 4-3.7.11 so that I can set up Oracle 10g on this Linux platform.
But first I need to set up a few configurations e.g enable my OEL connect to the internet via a dial-up modem.
I have used my modem successfully on openSUSE 11.2 and Ubuntu 9.04 but I am unable to use it on OEL.
My ubuntu configurations are as follows
Connection Name:ZAIN
Number:*99#
APN:ke.celtel.com
How do I set up dial-up in OEL using the settings above?
Also, simple commands to restart the OEL such as shutdown -r now are not being found when I type them in the terminal. How can this be so?
Thanks.user11114098 wrote:

Use wvdial to dial out using the modem, authenticate, and have it launch the pppd daemon for creating an IP connection via the modem.
If you want to configure manually, you will need to edit the files pap-secrets and chap-sercrets in +/etc/ppp+. Then you also need a unique config file for your connection defined in the +/etc/ppp/peers+ directory.
These files are fairly simple to edit. The secret files contains your ISP authentication details. The peers file the phone number and account name (from the secret files) to use. wvdialconf should configure this accordingly though.
There's lot of details available on the web - suggest you google.
