Java in OTHER browsers, on a Mac?

Which other browsers for Mac (besides Safari) are java-friendly?
Safari has decided not to work consistently for me, can't access a lot of what I need to get to. To enable Java for other browsers, will I have to jump through hoops?
I'm also wondering if new java plug-ins I installed to get FireFox working w/ java might be the cause of the problems with Safari?

I appreciate your thoughts but, as I said, I've been in this program for some time, using the same configuration, and only last week began to have problems. My program's tech team is running has been running this online degree for ten years and are very good--and not experimental at all--at what they do.
The fact is, Safari is no longer working on most of the sites I visit regularly, and recent messages on this board demonstrate that this is happening to LOTS of Mac users, even those with more updated systems.
I've updated regularly and have trusted Software Update to only prompt me for updates appropriate for my system. Perhaps this is/was not the case? Right now I have Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Update 1. Software Update says there's nothing newer that I need...
And I've always had Java enabled on both browsers. But it's never worked for Firefox.
Perhaps I need OmniWeb too? More importantly, Apple needs to deal with what's going on with Safari--it's bombing like mad all over the landscape for a lot of users.

  • Is there an Adobe Flash Player for other browsers for Mac?

Please follow this link to see what i mean. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
The first two system options windows etc give an option for other browsers but the Mac option does not.
Is there a way to get a *for other browsers* flash player for mac?

The reason there aren't two versions of Flash Player for Mac is that there is no longer an "Internet Exploder" for Mac since 2004. Windows has two builds because IE requires ActiveX controls and thus, a completely different architecture. The Flash Player for Mac IS for all other browsers.

  • I get a a message "javascript: void (0)" when I turn on online radio. This problem is related also with other browsers. I reinstalled java but nothing changed

This problem is related also with chrome, opera and explorer. I reinstalled java but nothing changed

    To avoid confusion:
Note the javascript: void(0); is often use as a placeholder URL to indicate that an onclick event is tied to the link to do the actual action.<br />
If JavaScript is blocked for some reason then this javascript: void(0); links comes into view.
Make sure that you do not block JavaScript.
Also make sure that your security software isn't blocking JavaScript if it happens in other browsers as well.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • Doesn't load a certain website I have. My site loads on all other computers, and in different browsers on my Mac???

I'm building a store and for some reason FireFox for Mac seems to not want to load it all the time. Sometimes it just stops loading the site even though the server is up and it loads in all other browsers. It only happens on my computer and it's really frikken annoying. It's coming to the point where I will have to switch browsers if I cannot find a fix. It's impossible to work on a site when FireFox refuses to load it at times, but I have NO idea why!!
Chrome for Mac loads the site INSTANTLY, but I like to use FireFox because of the helpful add-ons it has.
I'm not posting the URL here because it is an adult store and I'm not sure if that is allowed.
I just think it's weird that FireFox ONLY does it on this site, and ONLY does it on my computer. It's been doing it for weeks now, since I started the site. The other weird thing is that when I Quit FF completely and restart it, my site loads fine. I can be working on it for hours and then BOOM, FF decides to be a royal P.I.T.A.
Is there any way to troubleshoot this issue?
    Thank you.

  • Newly created images will not display in Firefox 8 for Mac. Same images appear in other browsers. Why?

    1. Specific new images are uploaded but will not display in Firefox 8 on my Mac with OS 10.6.8. (Does appear in other browsers, e.g., Chrome and Opera, and appears on Firefox 8 for PC.) Also, other images on the page display.
    2. I have cleared cache, cookies, etc., in Recent History, and restarted both application and computer.
    3. I've tried creating GIF, JPG and PNG, but none show on the page in Firefox on my Mac. I can see the offending image in other browsers such as Chrome on the same computer, and on Firefox on PC. Offending pages are in both PHP and HTML: http://www.brookfieldcivic.org/advertisers.php and http://www.brookfieldcivic.org/advertising_freedom_montessori.html
    Image links: http://www.brookfieldcivic.org/images/advertisers/freedom.png and http://www.brookfieldcivic.org/images/advertisers/Freedom_Montessori_bizcard.jpg

You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
*Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
*Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
*Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
*Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • I can not get Firefox to play music backgrounds on pages in browsers it works in IE and other browsers but not firefox, what HTML or Jave script do I need too use to make them work?

I'm having a problem with firefox playing background music on some sites, it works with IE and other browsers but not with fire fox, what html or java script do I need to add to the pages so that they play the music?
I develop my pages in Front Page and I know that the music only works in IE, so if someone can tell me how to correct this problem as it is important as I use fire fox as my main browser.
    I thank you in advance

If a website uses BGSOUND then it will only work in IE.
BGSOUND is not compatible with other browsers like Firefox.

  • Uploading files containing swedish letter åäö gets ecoding corrupted in firefox for mac. Same features works fine in all other browsers. Is this a bug in firefox for mac?

When uploading a file containing swedish letter å, ä or ö the file name is gets corupted in the filename. There are som encoding issues just for the mac version, since the file name is uploaded correctly in all other browsers on mac and all browsers in windows.

What form does this corruption take? According to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695995 the difference is decomposed vs precomposed Unicode forms, but that should not actually affect any Unicode-complian software. If there's a site that shows a problem here, can you point me to it?

It's been working great.  I did upgrade to Mavericks a few weeks ago. When I'm testing my site, now dreamweaver does not opening in safari on mac but still opens in other browsers.

Thanks Nancy. Ok,  I just tried removing and then adding Safari (shutdown, restart)  and it still opens my top sites page in safari when I test.  It could be in the settings on Safari .  Here's a screen shot of my safari settings.

  • Firefox performance SO SLOW on my Mac OS X 10.6 / Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz / cable biz-class internet connection compared to other browsers

Chrome works perfectly. Safari works perfectly. But Firefox 7 is WAY TOO SLOW - approx 1 minute+ to get from one website to another. With the other browsers, approx 1 second. All Firefox plug-ins turned off. Seems broken or like something is running in the background. For a couple of years I've been using Firefox to develop websites, nothing like it, the best, but all of a sudden i cannot get it to work properly. please help.

  • Firefox slowness issues have been getting worse, when is it going to be re-coded? none of the "FIXES" ever work and my other browsers work just fine.

My frustrations with firefox continue to mount. All the supposed fixes are a waste of time. There is obviously a major code problem that needs to be addressed. Your solutions that you post just seem to be the same and never work. Users are not programmers and should not be expected to do your troubleshooting. I have been running a comparison lately using four different browsers to play a popular facebook game (Trainstation). (All browsers at the latest version)
    1. Firefox
    2. Internet Explorer
    3. Google Chrome
    4. Opera
to do the exact same thing in the game firefox was taking 20 to 30 seconds to complete (about half of the time completely freezing for several minutes.) where the next slowest browser (I.E.) was taking 2-3 seconds whilst opera was the fastest at almost instant, chrome almost as fast.
Firefox is also slow to load any page in general regardless of flash content.
Frequently I get "not responding" at the top of the window.
My system is a new Dell Inspiron with Intel Core I5 processor @ 2ghz and 6GB Ram, about 300GB free hard disk space. Windows 8.1
The game played requires the latest flash version which does not work on LINUX. However the linux firefox version is much faster. Perhaps there is a direct link for conflict with windows 8.1
Firefox also seems to have a memory leak, resources get dramatically worse if the browser is open for many hours. (this is not a problem with other browsers in general, except I.E. which exhibits this problem as well to a lesser degree. The freezing issue has also been a problem with Thunderbird lately as well, I do not have another e-mail client installed to compare to.

I have tried that already, I have seen that response in more than one forum in the past and it does not do anything. I also for the test of it, upgraded to the v29 beta version. Still is slow (not just the game i was playing which is on face book but also on the game developers site directly as well (http://portal.pixelfederation.com/trainstation/), using either does not matter as far as performance of the game. All sites and browsing is slower, as is startup loading my home page which is just google.com. I remember when firefox used to be blazing fast compared to others. I have also tried recreating a new profile, didn't help. tried a complete removal (including registry entries and all files, then a new fresh install, didn't help. someone on another forum suggested several tweaks in the about:config area, didn't help. something has changed dramatically in the last four or five versions. • Why does my javascript code work fine in all other browsers, but not Safari

Previously, I have asked how Safari handles javascript trying to resolve a problem with a slide menu, (http://www.designoutput.com/testslide.html) being directed to validator. I have corrected as many things as possible and still have code work in other browsers. Why will my code work in all other browsers (IE 5.2, Firfox, Netscape, and Opera) and not Safari. It appears that Apple would address some of the problems that people are listing. Possibly, my problem is not with Safari, but my code, if so why does it work in all other browsers. Having more knowledge of how Safari accepts code or handles code differently than other browsers would be helpful. It would be nice if I could debug my code in Safari step by step to know where the problem is at. I'm just frustrated with Safari after working on my problem for over a month. Would be very greatful to anyone that could just being to get my code to appear in Safari (only a blank page in Safari, menu appears in all other browsers)

  • Safari not loading images but other browsers are.

As the title denotes, I'm having this issue with safari that some images are not loading and I only get a blue question mark square. I have seen other forums with this question but it seems that my scenario is a little different, because other browsers like firefox can display images with no problem. Also for example, when I do a google image search only several images get to load while others don't. If I click refresh they finally get loaded but sincerely they take a lot more time to load than on firefox (sometimes refreshing doesn't work either) It might not be such a problem in an image search but on pages like facebook it is quite a hassle.
I don't know what might be causing it, (I don't believe its got to do with my internet connection since firefox has no problems whatsoever.) At first I thought that maybe an update might do the trick so I installed Safari 4 Beta which gave me only a slight better loading of the images.
Now to help see my case I've got some points to say in advance:
    1) I don't think it is webpage specific but I frequently see it in google image search and facebook
    2) I am using mac OS X 10.5.6
    3) Every time an image doesn't load, the activity window says "can't find host"
    4) As said above, I'm using Safari 4 Beta. But still I had this problem with the previous Safari

    Hello,
We also have a problem with Safari only partially loading pages, or not loading them at all (a blank page is displayed). It happens intermittently, and affects some websites more than others.
It's definitely not an Internet issue as all other browsers (FF 3.5.1, latest Opera, Navigator, IE 6, 7 and 8 via Parallels Desktop) can display the pages normally.
I don't think it is related, but most of the websites that are affected are hosted at MediaTemple:
    http://www.bedsupperclub.com
    http://www.soundphuket.com
    http://www.silqbkk.com
    http://www.bedmgmt.com/
Reloading the page doesn't help (we tried reloading a gazillion times).
The issue affects all computers in our office (iMacs, MBP, MB).
We are using the latest version of Safari (4.0.2), it's an issue that we also experienced with 4.0 and the Beta.
We are gradually shifting to Firefox as this issue is really frustrating.
