Java in Safari

I know that Java is no longer natively supported by OS X and is not backed by Apple anymore. But I've been trying to install Java directly from Oracle in Safari, and everytime an update pops up, the whole thing simply fails. If I update it websites would start popping up with warning messages that Java is not installed. But the fact is that I do have Java installed. Is anyon encountering the same problem? And if so any reliable solutions to approach the problem?

That probably sounded a little vague. Basically, ever since Apple discontinued supporting Java, I've been using Java by installing it directly from Oracle. And periodically updates would be released and prompt me to install it. But every time after I installed the latest version of it, websites start popping up with the warning message. And when I download Java again, the install package, from Oracle's website, it still won't work.

how do I load or upgrade java on Safari 10.6.8

Apple barred Java from running on Macs in order to safeguard users by blocking Java 7 Update 11 and adding it to the banned list in XProtect.
This was the second time in two weeks that Apple had blocked Oracle's code from running on Macs. The threat was so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had recommended that all Java 7 users disable or uninstall the software until a patch was issued. This time Java is blocked through Apple's XProtect anti-malware feature.
Java has come under fire as the means by which hackers have been able to gain control of computers. In April 2012 more than 600,000 Macs were reported to have been infected with a Flashback Trojan horse that was being installed on people's computers with the help of Java exploits. Then in August Macs were again at risk due to a flaw in Java, this time around, there was good news for Mac users: Thanks to changes Apple has made, most of us were safe from the threat.
Unwilling to leave its customers open to potential threats Apple decided it's safer to block Java entirely.
In order to block older versions of Flash, Apple has updated its "Xprotect.plist" file so that any versions that come before the current one (version 11.6.602.171) cannot be used on a Mac. Users who have older versions of Flash installed will be greeted with an alert that says "Blocked plug-in," and Safari will prompt the user to update to a newer version.
Macs running OS X Snow Leopard and beyond are affected.
UPDATE for those running Lion or Mountain Lion:
Oracle on Friday February 1 released a new version reportedly addressing vulnerabilities seen with the last build.
Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.
    Update for Snow Leopard users:
Apple issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
If, after installing Java for OS X 2013-002 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US
    Further update:
Apple issued this Java related security update No. 13 on February 19:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5666
and Update No. 14 on March 4:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5677
    You should also read this:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5672
The standard recommendation is for users to turn off Java except when they have to use it on known and trusted websites (like their bank). Javascript, which is unrelated despite the name, can be left on.

  • I did software update, now java in Safari doesn't work.

I ran software update, now Java in Safari and Firefox doesn't work. How do I fix it?

    I already tried that.
    I am running OS 10.6.8.
I did a "normal" software update (under the Apple icon).. didn't update the OS to a higher level, it's still 10.6.8. But now certain websites tell me that Java is missing or not working. When I go to the Java site, they say that you can only download the newest Java for OS 7 or higher... that Java is automatically part of OS 6 and should have automatically updated when I do a Mac software update.
Java used to work. Now that I've "updated" my Mac software, it doesn't work. And there's no way to download and install Java (according to them).
It's a never ending circle with no solution.

  • I don't have Java on Safari

I have downloaded safari for windows because it is way faster and easier and first i just had Java.
then i downloaded it again because some site said it was too old i guess (don't know for sure)
but however i downloaded it again and updated it and it now i don't have java for safari anymore...
at the options screen:security i still have them all on and on IE and firefox java still works.
is there any special version of java i need to download especially for safari and howmany bit version do i need???
can anyone please send me the link i've tried to reinstall java again and downloaded all 2 versions of windows based java's and still: nothing.
can anyone help me with this???

Java is no longer installed by default in 10.8, but Software Update will automatically download it when you run a program that requires it. Alternatively, to prompt the system to install it, you can open Terminal from your Utilities folder and simply type the word "java" (and hit return) at the text prompt. Then run Software Update.

  • OS X Mavericks and Java: OK to download Java as Safari plug-in?

Remote web cam requires Java plug-in on MacBook Pro Mavericks Safari browser to view and operate.
Are there any known problems with using the java plug-in (from the Java site)?
    Thanks,
    Richard

It's never safe to use Java, as it has got a lot of security problems. However, if you need it, install it. You can install it from the Apple website or the Oracle website, with the only difference that Apple provides Java 6 and Oracle provides Java 7.
If you are not sure you can use Java 7 for the webcam, use Java 6 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Also, you can disable Java in Safari when you are not using it. Open Safari, go to Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Security, and untick "Enable Java". Keep Java updated

  • Problem with Java and safari with 10.6.8

Everytime I try to load a game from Pogo.com the window that actually loads the Java, closes before the actual game can be loaded. Safari isn't crashing.... Its just closing the window. There's no error report or anything. Any ideas?
Java is enabled. Data has been cleared in Java preferences.

I just got off phone with AppleCare about same issue. Here is how to fix:
How to reinstall Java for 10.6.8:
    - Go to:  /System/Library/Java/Support/CoreDeploy.bundle/Contents
    -  Move: javaAppletPlugin.plugin to the trash
    -  Run update   ---   Found at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573

  • Firefox 3 messed up Java in Safari

I have a site I use quite often that relies on some java. After installing Firefox 3, not only does this site no longer work in Firefox, but it also no longer works in Safari. I can, however, get it to still work in Camino.
I have duplicated this problem on 3 different computers.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
Can you provide some more information? Such as what is the website you're having problems with and what specifically happens when you try to load the page in both Safari and Firefox?

    Dear Forum

    Thanks for any feedback.

Have you enabled Java and Javascript in the Safari preferences? Have you updated to Tiger 10.4.10?

  • Java freezes safari

I've read through a few other discussions on this site trying to figure out why my financial web page freezes when it tries to load a java program to do stock trading. The people at Schwab are clueless about macs.
I notice on my hard drive, that i have two different copies of the java plugin 1.4.2_9 and 1.3.1. Should i trash the older version? I also notice in my Safari help file, that both are listed, in various palces.
I emptied the caches for both java files, and did all the usual file and safari torubleshooting. anybody have any other suggestions?

Streetsmart.com does not freeze Safari for me - but it is not working either. I had a similar problem when I first got this Mac - in November, and was told by Schwab to reset Safari, then restart my computer - and it worked. However, I have tried that this time, and it does not. From my Schwab account page - I click the StreetSmart.com icon, and it goes into the testing phase. The test comes back - JVM failed. (everything else passes) However, when I test the JVM on another website, it passes. Also - when I try the Schwab simulation of StreetSmart (which uses day old data) it works fine. I saw in another discussion group that someone else was having problems with JVM - When comparing plug-ins - he found the following:
"The only difference that I found was under Safari/Help/Installed Plug-ins.
The userid that properly loaded the java apps had only one plug-in.
    Java plug-in for cocoa 1.4.2_09
The userid that didn't load the java apps had three plug-ins.
    Java 1.3.1 plug-in CFM
    Java 1.3.1 plug-in
    Java plug-in for cocoa 1.4.2_09"
I find that I have the three plug-ins as well. Is that the same for you?

  • Disabled Java-now Safari won't display pages.......

I really thought that I was doing a good thing by disabling Java because of security concerns. Well, apparently it wasn't a good thing and now I don't know how to restore Safari to how it was before I did something so stupid! So I am hoping someone can tell me how to fix this problem. Preferences won't open up or I could change the setting. No windows open up. Safari comes up but that's it. Help! Judy

Safari looks like it's starting up and the menu bar items are there but my homepage doesn't display. I can select Preferences but there again, nothing is displayed. System Preferences are the same way. I did what one poster suggested, installed the combo update for 10.5.7. I am now repairing permissions. I did manage to get Mail to open and display the message window and got 2 messages and tried to reply to one. Got a few words typed and then nothing. The cursor was blinking but no letters appeared. So I quit that app. I just deleted the plist file you suggested. Restarted Safari-no go. I think it made a musical intro though when it started up-I think that that is second since this whole problem started that I heard music and I think it was when I deleted a plist for Safari before.....Anyway, that's where I am at right now. I am using Firefox. Using MobileMe to access emails. And not accessing the System Prefs at all. Things aren't looking good. Judy

  • How do I enable Java in Safari?  I have tried everything 3 times.

I have a new Macbook Pro.  I can not get Java to load when playing games.  I have downloaded two times. When I go to Javas website it says plugin not enabled but when I go into my computer it says it is.  HELP.

    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Internet Plug-ins:
Put a checkmark in the box beside "Allow Java".
    Best.

  • How can i enable java in Safari 7.0.4

There is one web-site I like that uses Java for their webcam. I want to enable Java just for that site. How can I do it? I've gone to Safari Prefs--->Security and enabled Java to run on that site in unsafe mode (always allow) on other websites its blocked. But it still won't run.

Thanks for the reply Carolyn, but the "Allow Plug-ins" is selected. I even have gone to the Java control panel in System Prefs and listed the web-site on Java's exception list. It still won't run, telling me my security settings are preventing it from running. I know I'm missing something, I'm just not sure what.

  • Different Javas Between Safari 5 and Dashboard?

    Hi!
I've updated to Safari 5. Now, some of my widgets just don't work.
SunLit Earth 2.4.1 no longer shows the map. Neither does it work with Dashcode.
However, if I open the widget file and launch Sunlit.html with Safari 5, everything works fine.
Is Safari 5's Java different from Dashboard's one?
    Best regards,

As it turns out, the problem is not with Safari 5. The Sunlit Earth widget uses a Java applet. Dashboard now requires that the "Info.plist" include the Java related, "AllowFullAccess" property and that it be set to "true". If you have my original versions of the Sunlit Earth, you can add this property, refresh the widget and it will work fine.
My latest version is 3.3; however, there seems to be a problem with uploading the widget; so, you'll have to download it directly from the web site for now until I can figure out what's going on:
    http://observatory.tamu.edu/widgets/sunlitearth/
Version 3.3 uses a mix of Java and Cocoa with Objective-C to deliver the best of both programming worlds for this particular widget. Thanks for using the Sunlit Earth!
    Regards,
    Don

  • How activate Java in Safari on a Windows PC?

I am using Safari on a Windows 7, 64 bit PC.
I cannot get it to open Java files?
    Can anyone help?

Unfortunately in LabVIEW there is really no direct method or property
available to change this buffer size. If in JAVA there is a way to do
that I suppose it's using some Windows SDK functions. Typically these
are DLL calls so there is a chance that you might be able to accomplish
that by calling a Windows System DLL but I really can't tell you which
DLL and which function. Again, this should be documented at Microsoft .
