Java license for commericial use

Dear all
I hope i find a correct place to ask my question.
I want to know that, if java is an open source and free to use language, then why we need a its license for its commercial use ???
Also please explain the steps and the procedure of getting the license ...
thanks

This isn't really my scene .... but may I suggest:
Java is run through what I call an interpreter, and I think the correct term is Java Virtual Machine together with a set of libraries (may also be termed platform).
Many such are available under the usual standard freeare licences. Other may recommend support for patches
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_Platform,_Standard_Edition
However in practice many Commercial Java programs will need to run on a J2EE application Server; which may need licenses:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_EE
Such J2EE application servers include weblogic, websphere and JBoss

  • Student License for commercial-use, in Italy

    Hi there!
I would want to buy a student license for Flash Professional CS5, but I have some doubts about it.
Can I use this kind of license for commercial use, like creating websites for works, or selling my games on Steam?
I've read a older topic, and someone said that policy varies depending on the states, so I would like to be sure before buying it.

Hey there Attilio, you should find the answer in the student edition FAQ for your country:

Are all of the fonts that come with Dreamweaver CS6 licensed for web use?

I also have Creative Suite 5, which I believe comes with an Adobe set of fonts. Are these all licensed?
Licensed?  Yes, but not necessarily for the web. Some licenses allow use in print or images but not the web.

For legal reasons, don't just assume you can use any font you wish on the web. Fonts are protected by intellectual property laws in much the same way that software is protected from unlawful copying, modifying or distributing. In other words, a font owner can say "Sure, you can use my font but you can't alter it, you can't reproduce it and you can't distribute it." On the web, that's a deal breaker because you need to be able to do all three.
These font-families are common to most Windows/Mac systems.

  • CC Individuals License vs Business License for Commercial Use

Can you use Creative Cloud "Individuals" license as opposed to "Business" license for commercial use if there is only one employee in the company using the applications?

As far as I know, there are no restrictions on what you DO with the software, bit there are different kinds of Cloud accounts based on how many licenses you wish to buy

  • Individual license for business use.

    Hi,
We are development company around 5 people are working. Among 5 employees there is only one Photoshop designer. For one photoshop designer, do i need to buy Individual license or Team license. It seems Adobe providing the license based on the seat(i read somewhere else). I dont know what version should i use.
    Please clarify my doubt.
    Thanks  in advance.

I've just had a live chat with adobe, from our conversation, I'm convinced that it is legal to use an individual license for business use. Attached screenshot of the live chat and the two screenshots I sent over during livechat to make sure we are on the same page when we're referring to "individual license" and "business license"

  • Who could give the license for the use of the songs?

    Hey guys
Does anybody know the real names or authors of the songs "Dogma" and "Strategy" (both under "Intense" list) and also "peach Cobbler" (under "Cheerful")?
Basically, I need to know who could give the license for the use of these songs. Do you know any companies that license them or is Apple?
    Thank you
    Sinisa

    Apple's license agreement says:
You may use the Apple and third party audio loop content (“Audio Content”),
contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original
soundtracks for your video and audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were
created using the Audio Content, however, individual samples, sound sets, or audio loops may not be commercially or
otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound
libraries, sound effects or music beds.
So you're fine as long as you add something to the loops or jingles - what's forbidden is to distribute one of them as a song. But that's probably not what you want to do.

  • OEM - do I need a license for home use?

    Guys
    I installed Oracle 10.1 on Solaris 10 x86.
Whenever I try to load http://localhost:5500/em, I get a permission denied error.
    01. This is for home use (learning). Do I need a license?
    Thanks in advance

    A few things to check:
    1. Check the installation Manual to ensure the owner(installer) of the software has all the required privilege granted to it and that the dbconsole is started by that user (instead of root).
    2. Check that you are accessing the correct port. It is not always in port 5500. Check the file $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini to ensure you are entering the right port.
    3. Check that you are using the correct host name. Use the name of the Server instead of localhost. Also if at install time you used the Long Servername (e.g ugoserver.ugonic.com.ng), you will have permission problem when /etc/hosts file has only the entry for the Short Servername (e.g ugoserver). So check and append the long Servername to the end of the line.
    4. Remember to have a look at emca.log file for more error message details

  • SOA suite licensing for production use

    Hi,
I have been toying around with JDeveloper 11g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g and finally I can now say I am in a position to recommend to start moving the organisation's business processes and enterprise integration gradually to this framework. However I am slightly confused what the Oracle SOA Suite license would cover.
It is not clear what components are covered with the SOA Suite 11g license (for example: is the OSB also included? it is a separate download. Is CEP included?)
Also, will we need a separate Oracle database license for it to really work? If yes what database is needed (Enterprise, Standard etc.)? or does the SOA Suite license cover the use of a database too in some way, as long as it is used for SOA and BPEL etc.?
I presume that for a reliable framework we would need at least 2 nodes with clustering at both application level and database level, so we really need to do our homework well with regards to the costs required.
    thanks.

Oracle SOA Suite 11g licence includes full use license for Oracle Service Bus(even though it is available as separate download) and so is true for CEP.
    Refer to [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/integration.1111/e10223/01_components.htm]
Yes, SOA Suite will require a database and does not include any kind of database license related to SOA Suite license. For development purposes free Oracle DB XE will suffice.

On page 44 of that apple PDF it states:

  • Are the music clips supplied with iPhoto licensed for our use?

I recently used one of the musci snippets supplied in iPhoto to accompany a slide show that I wanted to publish in iWeb.  I went to post the video on Facebook, and received a scathing rebuke saying that there was a possible copyright infringement (obviously referring to the music).  I assumed that since Apple was supplying the musical snippets to be used with iPhoto slide shows, etc., that Apple had paid a royalty to the artists involved.  Does anyone know if this is the case, and if so, are we permitted to publicly air these videos?  It would be nice to know.  Otherwise why would Apple supply these particular pieces of music?

Doesn't really matter why Apple supply them, your argument is with Facebook. Whether or not the licence is vaild is moot, you have to convince them that it is. Good luck with that.
They are licenced for personal use. That means make your slideshow and share it with friends and family. They re not licenced for commercial use or for broadcasting. That could include uploading to sites where others might see them.

  • Font Licensing for Commercial Use - Video Games

    Hello everyone.
I need some SERIOUS help so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently in the process of Producing a video game which is using Minion Pro (Bold and Medium). I've been trying to call anyone and everyone at Adobe to figure out what I need to do to license this particular font for my game but after three weeks I still don't have an answer.
That said, I've come to understand that if I've bought a copy of Adobe Suite (which includes the Minion Pro font) the license allows me to use the font commercially. Meaning, I can legally use the Minion Pro font in my game.
Is this valid? Can anyone provide insight on this? If not valid, what do I need to do to secure a license?
    Help please!

Hey everyone. A bit more info...
The font displayed is a set of bitmaps created from the TrueType font. No vector definition is included in the executable.
Those bitmap images are used to display static text (ie, the text is displayed as it is in the text database, no text is created during the game). With the sole exception of numbers which are used for counters.
All this said, what do I do? I've tried contacting anyone and everyone at Adobe but no one seems to have an answer for me. The font is to appear in a game and I need to figure out ASAP what I need to do to make sure I'm in the clear legally.
As mentioned in my earlier post, I have a copy of Adobe Creative Suite (which includes Minion Pro). Does having the Suite license mean I can use this font in my video game commercially with the information provided above (in bold) in mind?
