Java & Lion - Having Problems

I have updated to Lion and haven't had any problems until trying to use Java.  I was at a website when I tried to print something and it said I needed to update my Java Runtime and wouldn't print.
I have updated Java at the Apple website with the Nov '11 update.  I have gone out to Safari, then Preferences and have enabled Java.  I have also gone out to the Java website and it indicates that Java is installed and working on my system.
Any suggestions on how to get this to work?  I would appreciate any help you could provide.
Thanks in advance.

I had it before I upgraded to Lion.  I also still have it.  I went to Applications>Utlilities>Preferences and it is there and is the updated version for Lion.  I also have the box checked to enable web applications.
I did the upgrade at:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421
I appreciate you taking the time to try to help me.

    Hi Bill,
Locate the version of Java that’s installed on your Mac OS X system.
    1. Open the Utilities folder and run the Terminal application.
    2. Type java -version and press Enter.
(space between java & -v important)
The version of Java that you have installed will then be displayed on the screen.

I am still having problems accessing java script sites.  Anyone else having this problem?

Javascript can be left on, but Java (which is something very different) should generally be turned off.
Apple barred Java from running on Macs, leaving companies that rely on Java plug-ins out in the cold.
Apple blocked Java 7 Update 11 by adding it to the banned list in XProtect.
This was the second time in two weeks that Apple has blocked Oracle's code from running on Macs. This time Java is blocked through Apple's XProtect anti-malware feature.
Java has come under fire as the means by which hackers have been able to gain control of computers. In April 2012 more than 600,000 Macs were reported to have been infected with a Flashback Trojan horse that was being installed on people's computers with the help of Java exploits. Then in August Macs were again at risk due to a flaw in Java, this time around, there was good news for Mac users: Thanks to changes Apple has made, most of us were safe from the threat.
Unwilling to leave its customers open to potential threats Apple decided it's safer to block Java entirely.
Macs running OS X Snow Leopard and beyond are affected.
UPDATE for those running Lion or Mountain Lion:
Oracle on Friday February 1 released a new version reportedly addressing vulnerabilities seen with the last build.
Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.
    Update foror Snow Leopard users:
Apple have issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.

  • Upgraded to Lion and now Safari doesn't work wifi is having problems and...

I excitedly upgraded to Lion after upgrading to Snow Leopard but now I'm having problems Safari, WiFi and launching Content Barrier from my Intego Internet Security Package. Snow Leopard was perfect but Lion has been giving me some grief. I'm a little disappointed. I have read that most people have had problems with Lion but I honestly thought it would be ok. But it seems that this upgrade isn't worth all the hype it has made. I was so excited but feel a littlest down. I don't think I should be spending all this time trying to find a solution to these issues ...it's such a huge chunk out of my time that I could spend working.
Can someone please lead me in the right direction :((

Uninstall the Intego software and see if that helps.  I suspect it will.
If not, see Understanding upgrade nightmares for more suggestions.

Normally differences like that between main and visitor accounts indicate a bad .plist in Home/Library/Preferences in the main account.  I don't know which one might cause this...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, selectHelp from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Did all of that yesterday, with the Apple Representative on the phone, and nope, still a problem...it was kind of exciting, really, they kept going up and up the tiers of support until I got disconnected...Fortunately I had the email address of the gentleman who was helping me so that I could email him back and let him know that we got disconnected...as you might imagine, he still has not emailed me back.  They were able to receive a copy of the form that I use for charting and try it in their facility on their computers, so we know:
1- it is not just my computer.
2- it occurred only after installing Lion OS X, not sure if they have tried it on Snow Leopard, but that's what I would have done if I was them...assuming that somewhere in Apple someone has not upgraded to Lion.
3- it is not just my software.
I think the problem is with the newer iteration of Preview  not communicating well with the Adobe .pdf.  probably some line of coding that needs to be written and insertedinto their program for multiline text.
:-)  Thank you for your help!

  • I'm having problems with my internet connection after installing OS X Lion. Is this a known problem or just a local problem?

I'm having problems with my internet connection after installing OS X Lion. Is this a known problem or just a local problem?
After +/- 10 to 15min my connection is gone.
    Does anyone have a sollution?

Lots of people are having the same problem, you're not the only one, belieeeeve me.
Just Googling the problem gets you tons of people complaining about the same thing, SOMETHING is up with Lion what wasn't happening with Snow Leopard. i just bought a new Imac and it CAME with Lion, so i started experiencing this internet dropout immediately.
It's been going on for the most of a year it looks like (at least by the dates from the threads i've been reading)
So your best bet is to fiddle with the System Preferences and read what other people have used to make theirs work. i'm doing that myself right now.  I already posted  a similar thread last night trying to figure out why my connection kept on dropping, i got a reply which linked me to a site. i followed the instructions there, so far so good, but i'm just being cautiously optimistic.
i'm gonna call Apple today and see if they've found anything, though seeing as this is a problem right out of the box there may not be an immediate solution. Good luck hunting for a solution :3

Try resetting the SMC and the PRAM.
    1. SMC
Read this and follow the instructions for your kind of mac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    2. PRAM
    Follow the procedure below:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    command–option–P–R
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should normally.

  • Having problem installing Snowleapord, going back from lion.

I own MBP 2.66C2D 13" 2010, I downloaded and installed lion very first day, before that i was felling my system response is getting quiet slow, after intalling lion i felt that i should refresh my machine from scratch so i can have every thing back (talking about speed), what i did i restarted the machine and used command+r to get into recovery mode of lion, there i erased my main HDD and selected the option to reinstall lion, after couple of clicks i noticed that lion is again downloading, i already have installation disk which i made after downloading lion first time, so i thought that i should reinstall snow leapord from the dvd and then install lion from that disk, i again restrated my book after inserting leapord dvd and holded option key there i selected dvd as a boot drive and my system started asking me about language then when i was moved to the screen where i was suppose to tell system in which drive it should install leapord my main and only HDD was comming with full free space but there was small yellow exclamation mark and when i selected that disk it said cant install in this disk, this is my first mac i bought it last year never tried to do this before, i was long time windows user, i would like anyone to help me what i did wrong and what im lacking, please reply as soon as you guyz can i cant keep my system in this position tomorow will be momday and i have to prepare my system for starting the week.

Ok JaEvo, i finally resloved the issue, i couldnt installed snow leapord then i left the idea of installing that, what i did i restored my lion back frm my time machine backup, everything was there where i left that, so accessed my lion dvd and noticed that my dvd had only one file and i.e. Dmg file, i read the article again of making lion dvd so i realised that i made that dvd by just copying dmg file on my dvdand pressed burn button on my finder, so finally i erased that dvd and used disk utility to burn that image on dvd so after burning process i got 3-4 files & folders in the disk, then i restarted my system and holded c till i saw he apple logo and little gear, after almost 10 minutes i again came to lion restore page the i erased me main HDD and gone back to option where i selected install new copy of lion, lion gave me 30 minutes in begening and saying it will download some component and in 5 minutes my system restarted and installation began, took almost 15-20 minutes, then every thing started freshly i made account & etc, but for those who are having problems with lion i must say do clean installation if lion and see how Lion will roar on your machine, soon we will see 10.7.2 and i believe we will have so many small bugs fixed.
Thanks for everyones support, this will help others.
