Java: "No compatible version of Java 1.5  is available."

No matter what Java app/applet I try to open, it presents this error message with the option to either [Open Java Preferences] or [Quit]. Note that opening Java Preferences presents the exact same error message. I am running the latest versions of both Java and Snow Leopard and I have tried to force reinstall Java from Apple's website already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As noted, reinstall the OS and then the latest 10.6.8 and Java updates. BTW, AFAIK, Java 1.5 is no longer a part of the OS, Java 1.6 is the latest.

  • 10.6.8 Java not working. "No compatible version of Java 1.5  is available"

    Hey Guys
    Firstly I would like to thank you for clicking this question and would ask you please if you have a solution to my problem answer whatever you can.  Anyway lets get on with it.
    Recently I have been having a problem on my macbook.  I am running 10.6.8 as said in title.  Previously i was having an inactive plugin error going on and the software update said there were no newer versions available.  However when looking for a solution for this by clearing my java cache ect. i somehow ended up with this problem.  Whenever I try to run a java based application such as minecraft it says "Cannot launch "Minecraft" No compatible version of Java 1.5+ is avaiable." Also when from this menu i try to open Java Preferences it says "You can't use this version of the application Java Preferences with this version of Mac Os X.  You have Mac OS X 10.6.8. The application requires Mac OS X 10.7 or later." I did not download java 1.7 or a different version of Java Preferences outside of the software update.  If you have any idea of what's going on please help me out.  I am struggling to get on with work and games without java even working.
    Thanks for your help

    Are you up to date with the updates?
    Update for Snow Leopard users:
    Apple issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
    If, after installing Java for OS X 2013-002 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US
    Further update:
    Apple issued this Java related security update No. 13 on February 19:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5666
    and Update No. 14 on March 4:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5677
    The standard recommendation is for users to turn off Java except when they have to use it on known and trusted websites (like their bank). Javascript, which is unrelated despite the name, can be left on.

    Hi,

    I know nada about Java.

    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)

    Ops Center bundles the Java runtime in the installation but it will not install it if there's a newer version already installed.
    In your case, you only have 32 bits version installed which is newer, so Ops Center cannot continue as you cannot install a lower version of the 64 bits.
    This will tell you the 32 bits version:
    # pkgparam SUNWj7rt VERSION
    You're probably missing the SUNWj7rtx - which is the 64 bit version.
    This will probably give you an error (this will check the 64-bit java version):
    # pkgparam SUNWj7rtx VERSION
    To see if you have it installed:
    # pkginfo | grep SUNWj7rtx
    To resolve this, you should install the same version in 64 bits (SUNWj7rtx) and then try the Ops Center installation again.

  • "No compatible version of Java available"

    Getting "no compatible version of java available" when trying to open Vuze.
    Is there no Java support for my Mac OS X 10.6.8. ? Thanks...

    if you cant find a Vuze with a java 6 compatibilty, then you will have to add Java 5 back into your 10.6.8.
    It is not supported by apple so its a bit tricky to do but can be done.  Instructions to do so are posted on the web.... google it.
    I had to do this also because of a java 5 based sofware gui that works with a very expensive rip system... would have cost me about 10k to upgrade inorder work with java 6.
    When sotware becomes obsolete or unsupported, the manufacturers either don't think or don't care about the very expensive snowball effects that can occur.

    Ther is a related Bug i n Oracle: Bug No. 4420032
    PROBLEM STATEMENT: ------------------
    The Oracle client file ojdbc_14.jar is not handling exceptions correctly. The connection pool slowly runs out of connections and hits the oracle db limit of max_sessions. Increasing the db max_sessions does not help as the number of sessions continue to increase.
    The vendor developers of ct's application have identified a code problem with the Oracle client file ojdbc_14.jar. Their description follows.
    The following is a technical description of the Oracle JDBC client library issue. The jar file in question is: ojdbc_14.jar. This issue is also present in the 9.2.05 and 9.2.06 versions of the client code.
    The socket.close() call in TcpNTAdapter.disconnect() does not properly handle network exceptions. Where the exception should be handled within the code segment calling socket.close(), the class instead throws an exception without ensuring the socket is closed. The socket is not subsequently closed by clients of the class. This ultimately results in a connection leak. Overtime, the maximum number of Oracle database sessions is reached. The only work around for this issue in production, is to restart the effected processes.
    The code segment:
    public void disconnect()
    throws IOException {
    socket.close();
    socket = null; }
    should be along the lines of:
    public void disconnect()
    throws IOException {
    try{  socket.close();  }
    catch(IOException ioe){  throw ioe;  }
    finally{  socket = null;  } }
    The original code segment will not execute the statement "socket = null" when . an exception occurs. Given the fact that the exception is not subsequently processed properly, the object is never dereferenced, and the socket remains open for the life of the process. Adding this statement in the finally block . ensures the object will ultimately be destroyed by the garbage collector. . ct tested this change in their lab and found that the recommended modification successfully resolved the issue.
    This problem has occurred with the previous ct's application releases, but the vendor has only recently been able to isolate the root cause. The JDBC connection pool slowly runs out of connections and hits the oracle db limit of max_sessions.
    Increasing the db max_sessions does not help as the number of sessions continue to increase. This problem has been occuring in Production over the past few releases of the application, but usually the connections leak slowly. This problem can be duplicated under heavy load in just a few minutes . in the Loadtest environment.

  • Error Message: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

    I have a web page that contains a ReportViewer control.  I am trying to display a report, which is an .rdl file located on the SSRS server, in this ReportViewer control.  I have set the ReportPath and ReportServerUrl correctly.  I am
    getting an error message.
    Am I suppose to use an .rdlc file rather than a .rdl file?  Does the web server configuration need to use a certain account?
     I am getting the following error message:
    The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.
    The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

    Hi bucaroov,
    The error "The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found." means the ReportServerURL configured in the ReportViewer control is invalid.
    Please follow these steps to solve the issue:
    Logon the Report Server machine.
    Open the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
    Copy the Report Server URL from 'Web Services URL'.
    Logon the application server(in this case, it is the server that host the web page), check if we can use the URL we got from step 3 to access the Report Server. If so, please replace the ReportServerURL in the ReportViewer control with this URL. If it is
    not available, could you please post the error message.
    Additionaly, we don't need to provide the extension for a server report. The ReportPath should be like: /<reports folder>/<report name>

  • I have an Ipod touch updated to last available ios 4.2.1. How can I get the last compatible versions of the apps?

    I have an Ipod touch updated to last available ios 4.2.1.
    How can I get the last compatible versions of the apps?
    In the appstore there are only the lat app versions, most of them are incompatible with my device.
    I know that previous versions of these apps were compatible with my ipod.
    Can all download them someway?
    thanks

    The problem is: I never had the compatible versions. But I want them, I'd buy them if I could.
    So I'm stuck with my Ipod, which can't be upgraded anymore to higher IOS versions, and with the appstore, that does not offer older versions; versions that have existed and still exist, perhaps in the recycle bin of some users, or somewhere in the appstore servers.
    I know, its a policy, just to sell more devices. Will not work with me. I'm not buying more Ipods

  • I aam thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new Apple compatible version of Lightroom, do I have to pay to upgrade or can I get the new version free?

    I am thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new, Apple compatible, version of Lightroom, or can I upgrade to it, or can I get it free as I've paid for the PC version?

    Your licence is not platform specific, so Lightroom can be used on any two machines (Mac and/or WIndows), with one actually being used at any given time.
    So no, you're money's safe!

  • How do I install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS

    Hi, I have a iPhone 4S, 64GB memory, 20GB free running iOS 6.1.3 (yes, yes, install the latest version of the iOS ... I am otherwise happy with the way the iPhone has worked since purchasing it 3 years ago).
    Last week, an app I regularly use, notified to be updated (11C Pro HP scientific calculator by RLM Software). I duly performed the update, but when I went to use the calculator, it appears that it is not compatible with the iOS ...
    According to the developer, the Apple app store is supposed to check the iOS version before it allows the download and update install (this does not appear to have been done in this instance).
    The developer directed me to an Apple page, Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X that shows a way to roll back to a prior version compatible with the iOS installed, however, I cannot find precisely where the "Purchased screen on your iOS device" is.
    If they mean the Purchases screen on the App store app, that shows a big blank nothing despite a considerable number if iOS app purchases since 2011.
    Does anyone have a clue as to what Apple mean in the above link or know of some way to prevent the App store from changing (without checking the installed iOS) working apps before upgrading?
    Cheers, all the best, Peter

  • Provider not compatible version of Oracle client after upgrade 4.112.1.2

    I had an ASP.NET 3.5 website running
    on intranet small business server as production with:
    OS Win2008 Standard 32-bit
    Oracle Database 11g107 32-bit
    Oracle DataAccess 2.111.60 32-bit
    On a development laptop,

    The development laptop had
    OS Windows 7 32-bit
    VS 2010
    Oracle Database 11g201 32-bit
    Oracle DataAccess 4.112.12
    Application was running without errors.
    On the production server,
    I uninstalled Oracle Database 11g107,
    to include removing Oracle home and install folders,
    and in HKLM > Software > Oracle registry folder.
    I installed Oracle Database 11g201

         <add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
    I changed IIS70 Application pool advanced settings to ASP.NET 4.0,
    restarting application pool and website.
    Rebooted system.

    There is only SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT
    I suspect that we would not see Oracle.DataAccess.dll in these locations anyway.
    ++++++++
    In
    C:\Windows\assembly
    There is:
    Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2
    Oracle.Database.Extensions 2.112.1.2
    Oracle.Web 2.112.1.2
    This is the GAC for ASP.NET 2.0-3.5,
    so this appears to be correct
    ++++++++
    In
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32
    There is:
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.DataAccess\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.Database.Extensions\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.Web\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
    with the appropriate 4.112.1.2 dlls in these folders
    This is the GAC for ASP.NET 4.0,
    so this appears to be correct.

    In
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\Machine.config
    Removed Oracle Providers references, I just need ODAC to update and insert data into schema data tables,
    and do not use the ASP.NET Oracle Providers schema.
    Should I need ASP.NET Oracle Providers schema, I can always add references in the application web.config.

    So... why would I get provider not compatible version of Oracle Client...
    there are no other versions of ODAC hanging around,
    unless there are other locations I am not aware of.
    The application works fine in development laptop.
    The application works fine on production server when I use SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT.
    But we need to migrate away from SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT according to Microsoft,
    and I am sure Oracle would rather have me use Oracle.DataAccess client anyway.
    ++++++
    I even tried a trick from another post to move what appears to be Oracle Instant Client components,
    oci.dll, et al, from an installation into a new home of the Oracle 11g201 Cllent 32 along with Oracle.DataAccess.dll into the website BIN folder
    and set references for Oracle.DataAccess.dll to LOCAL TRUE.

    So I remain stuck.

  • Last Compatible Version Of iMovie For OS X Mavericks

    Hey everyone,
    I still using Mavericks as many do, I done a clean install and would like to download latest version of iMovie instead recover from my time machine one(imvid version 10.0.5), I want to know what is the latest version for mavericks so I didn't mis any features.
    I tried to download in my purchase page, but it said do you want to download last compatible version, then I choose yes, I not sure what version it download but look like the new one for os x yosemite because from the new "jelly" like icon of iMovie. But does Mavericks support that? or maybe the first version?
    and does mavericks iMovie support sony xavc s code?
    Many thanks!!!

    "what is the latest version for mavericks"     iMovie 10.0.5 is the latest version supported by Mavericks.
    does mavericks iMovie support sony xavc s code?   No.  support for sony xavc s was introduced into the latest version, 10.0.7, which requires Yosemite - see this article:
