Java not installed/enabled

Hi folks,
I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1 on my MBA.  After installation, when I go to site that requires Java scripts, it says that "We are unable to process your request.  Please check that Java is installed and enabled".
There's no way for Mac users to go to Java.com to download and update as it's all done through Software update.
When I go to Safari's preferences under the Security tab I've had "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript" checked but it's still no go.
I have my MBP on SL and Safari 5.1 and those same sites work like a charm.  Does anyone know what I'm missing here?
Thanks in advance.

  • Message Java Not Installed

Trying to print from a web site (only one) and I get a message "Java Not Installed". It is because I can find preferences. I imagine I need to change one but don't know what. Suggestions? OSX 10.5.8
    Thanks

You can turn Java on or off in Safari Preferences/Security.
Normally you should leave it off, but occasionally you need it to run a Java Applet on a particular (and trusted) website.
Leave Javascript on, that is something completely different.

  • [SOLVED] Since updating to Java 1.6.0_33 on my MacBook running OSX 10.6.8, websites say Java not installed in Firefox, but works in Chrome

I work for User Testing, which uses a Java-based screen recorder to make videos of people using commercial websites and offering spoken feedback on the site. Since installing the Java 1.6.0_33 update for Snow Leopard on my MacBook, the User Testing screen recorder does not recognize that Java is installed, and won't work.
If I switch to Chrome, all works smoothly. I have the latest version of Firefox, and have installed the latest updates. I have opened Java Preferences in my Utilities, and made sure that the checkbox "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications" is checked. I have cleared the cache and cookies in Firefox. The problem still persists.
User Testing says no other Mac users have reported the problem, and so they cannot help me. I rely on a Firefox add-on that is not available for Chrome to notify me of new User Testing jobs (which are normally claimed in seconds), so it is not practical for me to simply switch to Chrome or another browser.
Interestingly, when checking my plugins in order to fill out the information required below in this help request, I was sent to a Firefox page that says "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version."
When I click the link, it says that Apple supplies its own version of Java, which of course I have already installed. Guess this is the root of the problem, but how do I fix it?
    EDITED TO ADD SOLUTION:
After even more Googling, I eventually stumbled on the solution. In the Firefox menu, I chose Help>Troubleshooting Information, and clicked "Show in Finder" under Application Basics. I then quit Firefox, clicked on the Profile folder, deleted the file "pluginreg.dat", and restarted Firefox. Java now shows up among my plugins, and is enabled by default. The failure of pluginreg.dat to update automatically was supposed to be an old Firefox problem that has been solved, but apparently that is not always the case.
Thank you to everyone who answered.

I read somwhere that firefox disables certain versions of java because it might give control of your computer to other malicious websites
I think you have to go to the java website and down load the version you need and enable it in firefox's prefrences
Sorry I may be a veteran in using firefox, but I know very little since I hardly had problems with mozilla untill just very recently hope this helps

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

  • Running Java app when java not installed

I need to run java apps on a server I don't control and the admin will not install java. :(
Tried a few things to run java without installation, but get error that a java registry item can not be found. "Error opening registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'" Might be that without control of the registry, there's no way to run the java engine, but curious if there's a way to get it to run... I'm gonna play around with it, but figured if someone out there knows it's not possible, they could save me time by letting me know.
    Thanks!

Depends on what you want to run. To run an applet on the computer requires that the JRE be installed, as the applet needs the Java Plug-in and Registry keys that the JRE install includes. To run a Java program from the command line needs a copy of the JRE, but it does not need to be "installed" by the Java installer. Then the command "java ... classname" needs to include the full path to the java executable that the JRE contains.
There might be websites that allow you to run certain kinds of Java programs on the website. I don't know if they still wxist. I also doubt that they'll run applets.

  • Jave worked but now I keep getting jave not installed

My bank uses jave to log in. Jave is installed and never had a problem. Now I try to log in to my bank but get the message you must install jave. I reinstalled it. Still cannot log into my bank. the same message comes up jave must be installed

Your heading says Adobe Reader and the explanation below says Adobe Flash. Neither of these is shown in your System Details under Plug-ins. Is this the actual computer the question is about?
Incidentally, Firefox and Google Chrome are web browsers and not search engines. Google, Bing and Yahoo, for example are search engines.

  • My Applet not running in java not installed systems.

    dear sir/madam,
i have an applet which uses java.awt.* and java.awt.event.* classes, is running in systems with J2SE installed. but it is not running in systems with java enabled browsers without J2SE installation.
i want my applet to be run in all java enabled browsers without J2SE also.
how to make my applet work.
    thanks in advance.
    -- ks_moses

install J2SE to develop Java programs..
install JRE to run your Java Programs
To run your applets into such a browser, you must have a plugin installed on that browser to run your applet, so install JRE(Java Runtime Environment), it will install the Java plugin automatically so you can run your applets, GoodLuck

    Hi Redfyre-
Here is an article on troubleshooting issues with the java plugin:
[[Using the Java plugin with Firefox]]
Hopefully that will help- especially the Java test page.

  • Site says java not installed

I have deleated java and reinstalled from sun but still I can communicate because the site cannot find java on my firefox. It is my bank site and there was no problem earlyer

  • Why is Java not installed?

weird i have a 32 bit imac with leopard just installed recently. now the new java update only allows 64 bit macs to install it. but now how can i get the java appplication? because i cant get the basic java program anywhere. because its either the 64 bit version. or the tiger version, which will not let me download anything i can do to get java on my 32 bit mac?

  • Why is my Java not working/enabled?

    Here is the problem.
Recently, when I go to Staples.com to view their weekly sales flyer online the message comes on screen that my browser (IE8) has JavaScript disabled.  So, last week, I updated the Java and it says it is now Version 6, Update 19 (build 1.6.0_19-b04) but I still get the same message.
Now that I have the update it appears Java on other websites has stopped working where it used to work before.  Websites that are now failing include the FedEx cost calculator and enlarging the little pic.s of items at eBay.
Looking at the IE8 browser I don't see where I should enable Java.  Looking at the Java file in the Control Panel I don't see anywhere to enable either.  Looking at the Java Runtime Environ in Java both of the entries are checked "enabled".
I would like to get this working again.  How do I fix it?
Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Look under manage addons under the Tools menu.
    TIP.
If you and running Windows 7 64 bit then be sure to download both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of JAVA.  I used the offline JAVA update.  Did you try the IE 8 32 bit version?  You find the 32 bit version off the Start button and Programs.
