  • Java platform and Java Deployment should be updated but there is no other version, always the warning to update but thats not possible

Java Platform 7u9 and Java Deployment Kit plug-ins are yellow and asked to be updated.
The problem is that there is no other version than I have already installed.
Even if I try to instal this latest version again I've get the message that I already have the latest version.
The same problem was with Flashplayer where I installed the latest version but three days Firefox asked to update the plugin.
The last one is now ok but Java Platform and Java Deployment Kit is hopeless.
Why it ask for an update if there is none?
What should or can I do? I always be careful and patch my pc if necesserry.
All my friends who are working with Firefox have the same problem.
Can anybody tell me whats going on here?
    greetings, Mimi321

    Hi
There is still an issue for me. When i check to see if add-ons are up to date it identifies "Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U9" as out-of-date and gives me an orange "Update" action. When i hit this it takes me to the Java website giving me "Recommended Version 7 Update 9". This is the one i've already got so i cannot get rid of the orange Update action buttons.
Furthermore, if i try the link earlier in this thread to test to see which version of Java i should be using it says "Congratulations! You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 9)" so i'm not sure what this talk of version 7.10 is about?

  • Basic questions on Java platform and JDK

    Hello,
I have a few questions, might be very elementary. Please clarify.
(Tried in "New to Java" Forum....but did not get much response)
What I know is : A "Java Platform" is composed of the Java language, a JVM, and the APIs. There is a spec. for the language, and another spec for JVM. Now, are there spec.s for the API as well ?
Another related question is : where exactly do the various flavours of the Java Platform (J2SE, J2EE, J2ME) differ ? I have seen some explanations where it seems to say that these editions have been created to give more appropriate support to different areas of applications. But, what I know to know is : what exact component of the Java Platform differs from one edition to another - language features, or the JVM, or the APIs ? And what is the kind of the change ?
Another question : what is it, that differs from one JDK release to another, say from J2SE 1.3 to J2SE 1.4.0 ?
I think the Java language spec itself rarely changes (Is this right?). Also the VM spec rarely changes (is this correct ?). So, is it that only the APIs change (new classes added, old ones modified, etc.) ?

ake careEvery culture has rules under which it operates. This one is no exception. It is the unspoken policy of the forum regulars to heap scorn on people who demonstrate an unwillingness to do things for themselves, or to at least put forth an effort. Therefore you have been the target of a certain amount of vitribution. Perhaps you are the lazy worthless git your posting implies perhaps not. None of my business and I don't really care.
You were pointed to a source of the information you asked for and rather than saying thank you, you demand that the rest of us sacrifice our time to synthesize the information and provide you with an answer about which we actually have very little information, namely what in the bloody <expletive deleted> you're interested in? Oh wait you did say you wanted us to tell you how to pick one or the other.
And you still can't see why you would become the target of a certain amount of ire on the part of the forum regulars. Might want to give that one some thought.
But now to your question, well sort of, I can give you a synopsis of what's changed between 1.4. and EE 5, but if I do that what you will know is that one person told you something. If you use the resources that you've already been given and arrive at your own conclusions and questions you will both know what you found and have a frame of reference with which to address specific questions relating to specific change topics. If you do that, most of us here will be more than happy to discuss adnauseum the ramifications of any and all of the changes.
These are the kinds of topics that we will happily get wrapped up in, but after we've spent our effort and time learning the differences and how they relate to what we're doing why should we concern ourselves with someone who wants a spoon fed answer? Consider this, if you never move beyond bottle fed pablum (formula) you wouldn't be able to tolerate more robust food like say a steak. If you never learn to derive your own answers to questions like this, you will never move forward as a developer.
Now that I've ranted for a while. Read the material you've already been pointed to, come back with comments and questions of your own and we'll be happy to help and comment.
    Cheers,
    PS.

  • In FF 22, both "Java Platform SE 7 U25 10.25.2.17" and "SE 7 U5 10.5.1.255" are listed in the plug-ins, and the older "SE 7 U5" has a warning. Why 2 versions?

The older version with the vulnerability warning is listed under the plug-in update tool along with the newest version. The warning directs me to the Java site for installing the latest version. Which I did, and made sure (both using the Windows XP sp3 "add or remove programs," and the java.com "uninstall older versions" tool). Yet. the older "vulnerable" version still remains in the plugins list. I even tried "disabling" the older version, but it simply disabled both versions. Is the newest version (7 U25), actually safe, even if I can get rid of the older version? The thing is, I don't know for sure if some of the sites that I need to visit have to use Java or not. Like banking. And if I have to completely uninstall Firefox, how do I retain all my settings, passwords, bookmarks, and so forth?

    Wow,
cor-el to the rescue. You wouldn't be related to the renowned Kryptonian "Jor-el" would you (Superman's father)? Being as how your answer was super fast, and like a "hammer of steel," hit the evil nail right on the head.
Anyway, the link you supplied led to a quick and easy solution. The answer being in the "Manually uninstalling a plugin" section. Which allowed me to quick and easily find the offending ".dll" file, and put it behind bars where it belonged. Or, more precisely, place an "x" in front of the .dll name for the outdated java version, and now it no longer appears in the plug-in list. The new version is now correctly the only one reported.
Thank you ever so much. And may green Kryptonite never cross your path. ;~)

  • The Best Java Web Services Technology for Developing Web Services

    Hi,
I am new to Web services world.
I read the java web services page . there are more than 6 technologies.
    JAX-WS,
    JAX-RPC,
    JAXB,
    SAAJ,
    JAXP,
    WSIT,
    XWS-Security
I went through several documents on web services.
I could not get a clear idea of which technolgy to use.
Which Java web service technology will be the best to develop web services independant of language, platform.
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ? for rapid development of web services.
    Could anyone help me !.
    Thanks in advance.

Which Java web service technology will be the best
to develop web services independant of language,
    platform.
Java by nature is a cross-platform language, so if your focus is on the need for portability, the choisce of WS should not be a problem. However, each WS is best suited for paricular uses.
SAAJ, a low-level level API, offers much simplicity, but is not the first choice for programmers, as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)messages need to be constructed piece by piece, making it a quite arduous code to program.
If you are not familiar with XML, your best bet would be to use JAX-RPC (Java API for XML-Remote Procedure Calls), as it hides the underlying detail from the programmer, in terms of SOAP and XML. The shortcoming with RPC-based WS is that it is "restricted to the local programming experience". Another failing is that assumes there is a network path- a reliability concern.
If your program will be contacting other services during downtimes, unlike JAX-RPC, JAXM is quite useful. However, your listing did not mention it, so I wont cover it.
JAXR is a client-side only API that acts as an interface between registries (not referring to JAXP)
I am not famiiar with JAXB, JAXP, WSIT or XWS-Security..
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ?It depends on what platform you are used to. Assuming you are familiarized with the J2EE platform (now changed to Java EE SDK), the NetBeans IDE (either 5.5, 5.5.1 or the latest editiion) is quite useful. I am using 5.5.1, but have found that it is quite buggy, especially when adding WS operations, a core requirement of a WS. if you will be using to devlop a service for an immediate need, you may find the learning curve to be a bit high, in terms of getting to grips with how to use it. (Download link:
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/index.php)
The IBM Autonomic IDE (or AIDE), based on the WSDM standard, includes 3 sub-tools, icluding the IBM Manageability Endpoint Builder which, according to their website, allows individuals to build endpoints to allow manageability interface exposure; Manageable Resource Browser and the IBM Manageability Endpoint Simulator. However, I'm not familiar with this IDE. (Download link: http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/aide/download)
The .NET Framework uses the Visual Studio IDE. For an unbiased comparison of J2EE and the .NET Framework in terms of WS, see http://www.webservicesarchitect.com/content/articles/hanson01.asp.
Apache Axis2, Geronimo and JiBX allows fast development of WS, or so the creators profess.
The PHP environment- you could try NuSPHERE PHPed. According to one website, with it you can develop a web service in under an hour.
I hope this was useful to you.

  • Java EE 6 Technologies page is not up-to-date

This is a request for correction.
    * In Java EE 6 Technologies page,
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javaee/tech/index.html
it turns out that the following information isn't correct (maybe obsolete, as there had been seemingly a plan to include JMX2.0 into EE 6 but later cancelled).
Java Management Extensions (JMX) 2.0; [JSR 255|http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=255]
    Instead, it should be:
-Java Management Extensions (JMX) *1.4*; [JSR 3|http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=3]
-Java Management Extensions (JMX) Remote API; [JSR 160|http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=160]
    * Rationale for the correction :
    - The Java EE specification (JSR 316) does not require JMX 2.0 in JSR316 or in any other specs
    - JMX 2.0 is in its Early Draft Preview stage and still incomplete.
    * Importance of the correction:
    - The page is often referred to as one of the most `reliable' source of Java EE-related info
so the accuracy and consistency is significantly important.
    See [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2255306] for details.

What is the difference between Java SE5 and Java EE5? Also difference btwn SDK and JDK? I am confused about these basic concepts.
    Thanks
    Geet

Java Platform, Enterprise Edition is a related specification which includes all of the classes in Java SE, plus a number which are more useful to programs which run on servers as opposed to workstations.
Java EE includes several API specifications, such as JDBC, RMI, e-mail, JMS, web services, XML, etc, and defines how to coordinate them. Java EE also features some specifications unique to Java EE for components. These include Enterprise JavaBeans, servlets, portlets (following the Java Portlet specification), JavaServer Pages and several web service technologies.

Hi, My name is Jeffry. I need information about Java Platform Overview For Manager (WJTB-310).
I need Information about table of contents, how long it takes to study that training (approximately), how many chapters are in that training, minimum Internet connection speed to access that training, and everything you know about WJTB-310.
Is there a synchronized audio in WJTB-310 ?
Is there a video streaming in WJTB-310 ?
    Can I receive a certificate for any web-based training ? especially in WJTB-310 ?
Is there a programming language material in WJTB-310 or just an overview ?
Sorry for asking to many question
    Thanks
    Jeffry Kristianto Yanuar

I thought I'd give you a response even if I can't answer your question completely. (I think we ought to start a separate thread entitled "How do you get any replies on this forum???") Here is what I have been forced to do. I introduced some JavaScript on the web page that contains the applet I want to be run. The sole purpose of the JavaScript is to detect which platform the client is on. If it's not MacIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the <object><embed> tag used by the Java plug-in. It it is MachIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the regular <applet> tag and let the Mac browsers do as best they can. With mixed and disappointing results. Netscape 6.2 crashes with a lot of applets. IE 5 brings up the applet okay but certain Swing components aren't displaying properly. The MacIntosh I've been testing on is version 9.1. I'm trying OS X tomorrow.
Why don't you send a reply to my query under the Java Plug-in Forum--from aronsz, dated 06/11/02--if you have some more info by now. I sure would appreciate it.

  • Basic question about Java, UNIX and OAS

    Hi,
Can I create an appication that contains GUI components like testbox and textfields etc...and then load/import it into OAS?
Can I again, create such an GUI application and then load it UNIX platform and run it?
The reason I asked because I did create an application which has a frame, a panel and couples of buttons, text fields then ftp it to Unix Solaris, when I ran it with jre command, I got the following message:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Javax/Swing/UIManager at cms.CMSApp.main(compiled code) Exception in thread main
Please anyone help me to clarify this, I don;t if we can do such things but I did not do it the right way? or we cannot do it at all. Thanks for your help
    Minh

I'm not sure I understand where OAS fits in here.. Is this an applet?
In any case, it sounds like the JDK version you are using is 1.1.x, and swingall.jar is not in the classpath.
If it's an applet, then you need to edit the HTML file and add in swingall.jar.
If it's an application, you need to edit the CLASSPATH environment variable and append the full path to swingall.jar
(note: in Java2 (JDK 1.2, 1.3) swingall.jar is no longer seperate, it is part of the runtime classes of java, so you don't have to add anything to the classpath)
    Take Care,

  • Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edi

I would like to take up the exam "Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5". Could you please suggest me the right book for it?
Does this one helps? ----Head first servlets and jsp
Whihc version I have to choose?

That book is a very decent start, but it does not cover everything you need to know. I would also get "core servlets 2nd edition", which you can download for free here:
    http://pdf.coreservlets.com
I would skim these two books to see which topics they cover, then check it against the list of requirements you will find on this page:

I am sorry to hear it was never published.
I have not read the other book yet - I was trying to find out which of the two had better reviews before contemplating buying one.
Ideally I would like two books on the subject. As a i18n novice I might learn more by being able to compare and contrast. I don't know, but I guess there are areas in Java i18n where different approaches are open to debate; other areas where there is general agreement about the best way of doing things; and topics which in one book could have been dealt with better, or in more detail, and which the other book makes good? Having two books on the subject would make these contrasts and parallels clear.
I am supposed to be preparing for exams just now, but once free I will take a closer look at your articles, and the other book and let you know my comments. If you were able to revive the book project, I would certainly do all I could to encourage you.
