Java Plug-in linux installation problem
Hi!
I am new to this subject, but I want to comment that I have problems installating the java plugin into my netscape 7.0 for Linux. My platform is Red Hat Linux 7.3.
I have followed the instructions written in
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-linux-sdk.html#install-pkg
but I still found that the plugin is not installed. (i.e when I open a web page that
requires java plugin I still see a window saying "this page contains information type
(application/java-vm) that can only be viewed with the appropiate Plug-in..")
and also as confirmation the web page:
http://wp.netscape.com/plugins/manager.html
checks that that it is not installed the plugin.
Would anyone please help me?
You posted a problem that would be answered better and faster in a Linux or Netscape forum.
You posted an installation question to "New to Java...", ignoring the fact that there is an "Installation" forum where you're more likely to get an answer.
You posted a question that has, in fact, been answered in these forums already. You didn't bother to use the "Search" function. Try "plug-in linux install", and check out the first page of results.
You posted a note, and waited FOUR WHOLE HOURS before whining that nobody's helping you. I'm amazed at your display of patience and understanding.
Hint: this is a volunteer forum, inhabited by random Java developers. People answer when and as they have the time or inclination. Nobody here is getting any kind of return from responding. Nobody here owes you ANY response, much less an immediate one.

Linux installation problem on D20
Hi, guys,
I am trying to install Redhat Linux x86_64 5.3 on D20 with a Marvell 88SE63xx/64xx SAS controller. As the Linux installer cannot recognize the SAS controller, I download a driver of Marvell mv64xx for Redhat x86_64 5.2 from Lenovo driver matrix website. Unfortunately, no matter how I follow the instruction to load the driver, the so-called mv64xx doesn't drive the Marvel 88SE63xx/64xx SAS controller in D20, so that the Redhat 5.3 Linux installer cannot find any hard drive. This is ridiculous and ironic because I got 5 SAS 15rpm hard drives in D20. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem and get Redhat Linux 5.3 installed on D20 with SAS drives?
Solved!

the kernel included the mvsas module and its dependant, and ran out of the box doing anything. and yes, it's a software raid, the bios offers raid 5 and 10, but they are greyed out. okay, my graphic is now broken with 2.6.31-1, but hey, the 5 port's are working i almost forgot where i have put the 500gb disk. hdparm -tT showed 7.8gb/s buffered and 77mb/s normal read, which is normal for the drive.
because of the nature of a module, i believe you have to compile a kernel with support of mvsas on your own to boot linux from it, or you use the ich10 - only for optical drives - sata port, which works fine with the intel x25-m ssd.

Java 6 update 10 installation problem
I try to install the latest java software via group policy (assigned computer installation)but it seems to hang during the installation.
It keeps on displaying "installing managed software Java...."
When I take a look at the processes (using a different computer) I see two msiexec's and a msi4.tmp
When I end the msi4.tmp process the windows logon prompt appears.
I have enabled the windows Installer log but no log file appears in the temp folder.
When I just run the msi manually it installs fine.
I noticed that this update is a small msi file(1561KB) together with data1.cab, izma.dll and sp1033.MST.
I have included those files in the installation source folder and tried it with and without applying the sp1033.MST and my own transform file.
The previous java version only had an MSI files which was around 15MB. No other files. This installation goes fine via GPO.
Any idea what goes wrong? I tried it on a couple of test pc's.Exactly the same issue here. We have deployed most recently Java 6 Update 7 though Active Directory with no problem. Previous versions were no problem as well. However when attempting Java 6 Update 11 we experience the hang just as described. We have to disconnect the network cable, reboot the machine and let it get past this point, plug the network cable in and then log in and check all services that may have not started. REAL BIG PAIN.
I do have some java-install log files.
The contents of java_install_reg.log follows (I have one more java_install log that I will put in a new reply to avoid confusion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Actually there is a limit of 5000 characters so I may be unable to do this. -

I have installed 2005q1 parts in my solaris 5.8 box and had some problems running sussessfully portal server and access manager. So I had to uninstall them again.
The uninstaller from /var/sadm/prod/entsys/uninstaller did not give me option to un install all components, so I have removed some packegs using pkgrm command.
Now I am trying to reinstall webserver/directory server/access manager again and now getting the follwoing problems.

jpsrao@hotmail.comit seems that you have not uninstalled the previous entire installation. You can clear all installation manually. first, you need remove all information about your previour installation in "/var/sadm/install/productregistry" file, and then deleted the previous installation directory , now suppose you can reinstall it successfully again, good luck!

Oracle 8i enterprise client linux installation problems
Hi,
I have a problem installing oracle 8i client on linux machine. It gives an error message when I tried to run runInstaller.
this is the error message:
Initializing JAva Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please Wait...
Error in CreateOUIProcess():-1

The machine is PII 450 with 128 mb of ram
Thanks,

850-6447018Gurhan,
I think it has nothing to do setting the JRE enviroment .from what I could remember is you have to install a JRE enviroment patch..
If you check you insallation documentation..
it tell you where to get the patch from..and I also think that you have to create symbolic link...
If you need more info on this..I could send you the URL..where you could get the patch..
send me an email..if you need futher assistance..I could then send you the url to get the patches from...
good luck.

CLI157 Could not stop the domain domain1.|#]Howdy, it looks as though the Application Server did not install properly, and as a consequence the Portal server fails to install.
Please make sure that you have un-installed all components properly first before re-installing... See my previous post.
If it were me, I'd install the Directory Server and Application Server first... After a successful install of Application Server, re-start the installer, selecting Portal Server and Access Manager. When doing so, make sure the Application Server and Directory server can be started prior.
By the way, have you seen the following blurb in the documentation from Sun , see: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5025/6n74td5j0?a=view
Remove the link /usr/share/bdb/db.jar before installation, if it exists.
Check ant already exists on the system by running the following command:
rpm -qa | grep ant
If a version of ant below 1.6 is installed, remove it by running the following command:
rpm -e ant-older-version ant-libs-older-version
You need to use the version of ant sun-ant-1.6.5-2 to install or deploy Portal Server. When you run the installer, it is automatically installed at /opt/sun/bin/ant.
Next make sure you following Sun's Documentation on the installation process, bar installing App Server and Directory Server first, see: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5025/6n74td5j3?a=view
If after all of the above, and your still unable to install portal server, please log a support call with Sun, 1800 555 786 quoting your support contract ID.

Java Redhat 9 RH9 installation problem
I have installed Java version "1.4.2_01" byt when I run:
java -version
I get the following which is not the java I installed but the Java theat came under Free license eith RH9.
[root@sriradha etc]# java -version
java version "1.3.1"
jdkgcj 0.2.3 (http://www.arklinux.org/projects/jdkgcj)
gcj (GCC) 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)
Copyright (C) 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
[root@sriradha etc]#
Now if I go to the directory where the java bin is {JAVA_HOME}/bin then enter
java -version
I get:
java version "1.4.2_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_01-b06, mixed mode)
Can anyone help me to remove this old java freebie and then set the environment variables so that java works for any user logged in.
thanks
NareshFirst you need to uninstall java from the system. NOTE this can be done before or after the Sun install. To find the packages to uninstall use
rpm -qa | grep 'gcj\|java'Then use rpm -e to remove the packages.
For RedHat 9.0 (2003-09-03 disc1.iso) the following will remove java entirely. NOTE the order is important as the packages are interdependent.
rpm -e jdkgcj-0.2.3-5
rpm -e gcc-java-3.2.2-5
rpm -e libgcj-devel-3.2.2-5
rpm -e compat-gcc-java-7.3-2.96.118
rpm -e compat-libgcj-devel-7.3-2.96.118
rpm -e compat-libgcj-7.3-2.96.118Once this is done setup the env vars to find the Sun jdk. I prefer to create a file
/etc/profile.d/java.sh(and/or .csh if csh is your thing) as I feel this is cleaner than editing profiles directly. The contents should set up the JAVA_HOME and PATH. For example for the 1.4.2_01 release the following will work.
export JAVA_HOME="/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_01"
export JDK_HOME="$JAVA_HOME"
export JAVA_PATH="$JAVA_HOME"
export PATH="$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin"All info should really be part of the Sun docs. -
hi,
when i run the installer for afp 9 as root the installer
rejects /usr/lib/mozilla as valid path (but it is a valid path
where the stuff is suppose to be).
please advise.
thank you,
-zanderthis is for the .tar.gz linux package.

Sun Java Studio Standard 5 installation problem on Fedora C2
Hi,
I've downloaded the trial version of Java Studio Standard 5 IDE and have bypassed the version hooks to load it on Fedora Core 2. It's get past the questions but hangs after pressing "Next" on the "Select the components" page. Any solutions, I don't want to hear, use Java Desktop or Redhat 7.2, I don't like Java Desktop and I'm not going back to a unsupported Redhat OS.
I'm working with Chemeketa Com. College and trying to demostrate a IDE tool that supports Web Services. Please suggest a solution, maybe selecting another IDE.
Thanks

Java Plug-in problems following installation of Oracle 9i
I have been experiencing repeatable problems with the Sun Java Plug-in following installation of Oracle 9i on our servers. Our installation of the Sun JDK 1.3.1_04 or higher seems to conflict with the Oracle installation. Following the install, navigating to any web page that includes an applet reference results in a plug-in error stating that it cannot locate the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_01. The key does exist however for the installed version of the plug-in. ie [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_07]. My only workaround to fix this is to add a new registry key 1.3.1_01 that contains the contents of the registry key for the installed plug-in (for example 1.3.1_07).
The Oracle installation only inlcludes the JRE, which AFAIK isn't referenced outside the ORACLE_HOME directory. The internal JVM couldn't be causing the conflict either. Might be an installer bug of some sort, but not one I have heard of.

user605023I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?

Linux, Netscape 7.01 and java plug-in how to install?
I have J2SE v 1.4.1_01 SDK installed in /usr/java/ directory. Some days ago I installed Netscape 7.0.1 on my RedHat 8.0 Linux. Now if I try to run my simple html page which calls simple java applet, I get message to install proper plug-in. "OK" button directs me to SUN's page where I can download J2SE. But I have one.
I still don't know how to install plug-in. Trying to create symbolic link:
ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so
in /root/.netscape/plugins and /root/.netscape6/plugins does not resolve the problem. As You see I work as root.
My Mozilla 1.3a browser works fine. It has java plug-in installed.
I saw Netscape uses /root/.mozilla directory for storing some information rather then /root/.netscape.
Could You send me any suggestion? Thank You.Thank You leukbr.
Unfortunately, this not resolved the problem.
More info about configuration and my activity:
I start Netscape by clicking on Netscape icon on my gnome desktop.
The icon has its file in /root/.gnome-desktop directory. File name is Netscape 7.01.desktop (like title under the icon). Line to launch executable has following contents:
Exec=/usr/local/netscape/netscape
I changed it to:
Exec=/usr/local/netscape/set_plugin_start_netscape.sh
and wrote set_plugin_start_netscape.sh file.
File /usr/local/netscape/set_plugin_start_netscape.sh has the following contents:
NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610
set |grep NPX > /root/diag.log
/usr/local/netscape/netscape
Second line is used for diagnostic purpose.
I closed all Netscape windows.
After launch of the icon /root/diag.log file is created and looks as follows:
NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610
If I start my html file (which calls java applet), Netscape still displays message:
This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that can
only be viewed with the appropriatePlug-in.
Clisk OK to download Plugin.

JAI extension automatic installation fail with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_01
Hi everyone,
i have a html page with an applet that use the JAI (Java Advanced imaging) extension. I used to run it with java plug-in 1.3.1_03.
When the JAI extension was not installed, it was automatically downloaded and installed. I use the sun "Signed Auto Installation for browsers" jar available on the JAI download page.
But with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_01, it seems to have a security problem. Is the "Signed Auto Installation for browsers" only java plug-in 1.3 compatible or is there a way to install it with 1.4.
If anyone has encountered the same problem with another extension, it could help me to know how to have it installed automatically with java Plug-in 1.4.
I tested on IE 4 and 6 on Windows NT4 & IE 6 on Windows 2000, and i have the same results.
Thanks
Philippe

New java plug-in on linux : jnlp applets not working
Hello my dear forum,
Here is (a part of) my configuration :
* Ubuntu 9.04
* Firefox 3.0.13
* Java Plug-in 1.6.0_14 with JRE 1.6.0_14-b08
I couldn't launch jogl applets in firefox with ubuntu since I updated the new plugin. (like this one : https://jogl-demos.dev.java.net/applettest.html)
I get this error :

Does this problem have something to do with this one : http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6625747 ?
I would really appreciate if someone can help me.poupitoupou wrote:

I wonder how many people manage to get this applet working on linux :
https://jogl-demos.dev.java.net/applettest.html
I don't know what 'working' means for this. I'm using 1.6.0_15 on Ubuntu 9.04 an all I see is 3 gear wheels that don't move.

Listen, you forum-reader, if you are on linux, can you test this applet and tell me if it is working ?Again - what does 'working' mean?
