Java Plug Ins

What is the security problem with Java plug ins and do I need to disable Java plug ins on my Mac computers?

The newly discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.
You should disable Java (if not already done) until either the US Department of Homeland Security, or Oracle, declare it safe and Apple restore the facility. Javascript should not be disabled (it has nothing to do with Java).
However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:
Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality.

  • Plz help to install java plug-ins

    hi everybody,
i am new to the world of java, i want to install java plug-ins in mozilla 1.7 on redhat linux 9.
how to do it, plz help, thanx in advance..

If Java was installed prior to Mozilla, it should have automatically installed.
If not, or Mozilla was installed first, use these instructions from Mozilla:

  • If I uninstall my 2 Java plug ins, how will I find them again to re-install?

if I uninstall my 2 Java plug ins, how will I find them again to re-install? It seems when I updated them, it's telling me to update again:
    Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.240.7
NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy Vulnerable (more info) Update Now
    Plugin Icon
    Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U24
Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24 for Mozilla browsers Vulnerable (more info) Update Now
    Then it tells me this:
This plugin version has a security vulnerability that websites can exploit and potentially harm your computer. It is recommended that you update this plugin or if an update is not available, disable it.
For more information, read the plugin vendor's vulnerability information.

  • Automation: How to allow java plug-ins to run when the page is invoked via Selenium FF driver?

My automated test involves navigating to a webpage on a remote system (via Selenium Firefox Driver) which runs a Java Plug-in to launch an embedded Java Applet. When the test first ran, I connected to the remote system (via Remote Desktop) and manually selected "Allow and Remember" as the plug-in was trying to run. However, this only addressed that first instance; it didn't address subsequent instances where I wanted to run the same test, same server (same plug-in).

Hey I got an awesome tip about this from the #addons channel Archaeopteryx
You can [http://www.ghacks.net/2013/07/31/manage-your-firefox-click-to-play-whitelist/ Manage your Firefox Click To Play Whitelist].

Sure, it's been in every newspaper and network TV news. Java browser plugins below v1.7.10.19 are vulnerable to exploitation and have been disabled by Apple, Firefox & Chrome.  You either need to update your installation to Oracle's Java 7 update 11 or do without.

  • I am not sure its safe to update my java plug ins so i ignored it. everything else is updated. what should I do? nothing?

I read all the reports about how unsafe java is. I am very leery about updating it or even touching that plug in. do I need java and what does it do? I see it says I need to update it. but I did not even go there.

If you use Java, you should always keep it up to date (The latest version if Java 7 update 11). That being said, if you don't use it (it's normally used by some websites for games and other content) you should disable it.

  • Java Plug-In's SSV Helper 2, Start Detector - are not Verified

I have the following Internet Explorer Add-ons relating to Java...
I had an old version of Java, something like 1.5 or 1.15 ? - it was from 2006... then i installed the latest version of java from the official java website (where i had to say yes to installing add-ons / active-x controls even before the download begun)... my new version is Java version 6 update 10, (build 1.6.0_10-b33). i think i uninstalled the old version of java first.. it left some files in its installation directory so i manually deleted them after i had installed the new version though, it had its own folder with the version number as its name, a different folder for each version.
These are the java plug-ins i have...
Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper (Not verified) Sun Microsystems, Inc. jp2ssv.dll
Java(tm) Plug-In SSV Helper Sun Microsystems, Inc. ssv.dll
JQSIEStartDetector Impl Class (Not verified) Sun Microsystems, Inc. jqs_plugin.dll
i guess the SSV Helper (the first one, not 2) was the old version of java.. and the other two are the new version.
My question, why are they not verified, is this normal, a danger/problem... considering the old java version add-on is verified.
Also what do these add-ons do?, are they needed.
    thanks.
I have windows xp home.sp3??? - its fully auto updated... internet explorer 7.

Exactly .. I have way too much Java stuff in my add-ins that is NOT verified and am having problems deleting that which I may not need
I wish we did not have to be a "developer" just to have the latest version of Java working on our systems. I realize more reading has to be done but for someone like me who has so many versions of Java and can not find out why this is so .. and how many I need in order to just prowse the web in the latest version of Java .. it is time consuming to have to go thru these Java add-ins and time consuming to have to want to remove older versions of Java.
Sorry for the nit picking but it is valid for those of us who don't want to know all of this stuff.

  • Plug-ins for older Netscape.

    Hi !
Is anyone still using Netscape 4.7, if so, what JAVA plug-ins r u using to load servlets coded in j2sdk140_01 ?
MS-IE will happily accept j2re140 but the JAVA Plug-in Control Panel only caters for Netscape 6 !

    Hi !
I am talking about the applets on the web server, and not about the servlet in the container !
Now that I fixed up MS-IE, Netscape 4.7 is playing up again and "Bad major version number" is making a come-back along with "ClassFormatError" and its bollocky cousins.
I have yet to get both MS-IE 5.0 and Netscape 4.7 to work at the same time. Its either one or the other and yes, I do realise I am a few versions behind...
However I take your point : I will be using another machine and upgrade all these (very) old versions to the latest ( bar beta) and see what happens. Should be interesting if nothing else...

  • Excuse me,i failed to install java plug-in in the platform of pentium 4

r there some compatiable problems between p4 n java plug-in?
    thx a lot~

No there's no compatible issues with P4. The processor has nothing with java plug-ins since java uses its own virtual processor and it runs on different processors/OS platforms. Maybe there's some problem with your program installer.

  • Need 2 versions of Java Plug in, and cannot get that to work

I need both 1.3.1 and 1.4. Java plug ins on my PC to access two different programs. For some stupid reason one of the programs I run on my machine only accepts 1.3.1 version to run properly. The other program will not run on anything below 1.4.
I am tired of installing and uninstalling either versions when I need to access these programs. What can I do.

Install both versions in a different directory. Now create two batch files / shell scripts for each of the programs: one batch file will manually invoke the java/javaw command in the 1.3 installation and the other will manually call the java/javaw command in the 1.4 installation. Using these two scripts you should be able to run both programs.

Is following message due to 'Java' setting left unchecked?
Mac OSX supportsUser Authentication Mechanism (UAM) plug - ins from other manufacturers to control access to servers. To use a UAM, copy the plug - in to: Library/ Filesystems/ AppleShare/ Authenti

Man that is an ancient message.
The last time I saw that was using Mac clients connected to a Microsoft (Windows) Server running 'Services for Macintosh' which included the ability to act as an AppleShare compatible file server. Because Microsoft have a different security system for defining accounts which includes the 'domain' as well as username, the standard Mac AFP client did not know how to send that information.
Therefore Apple made it possible to installed a plugin in the form of a UAM or User Authentication Mechanism which added the ability to send this information to login to the fileserver.
    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/101747
However Microsoft have long discontinued 'Services for Macintosh' and now the only way for a Mac to connect to a standard Windows Server is via SMB not AFP. I don't believe this plugin is available to download anymore.

required plug-ins.Any chance that someone who has succeeded in getting subclipse working under ALBPM Studio 6 could post the details of the workaround (copying jars etc.)? I'll post if I'm successful, but until then a little help would be great.
