Java plugin/browser refresh

Hi,
I have an applet that behaves differently in Firefox 3.6.12 using the Java 1.6.0_22 version of the Java plugin than it does on other browsers. If the applet is running in a browser window and the user clicks the browser reload button, first the applet init() method is called and then stop(). With other browsers, it appears that the sequence is stop() followed by init().
The problem is that I have a server resource locked when the applet is running. When it closes or is refreshed, I'd like to send the server a message to unlock the resource and then relock it when the applet restarts. And that's how it works on other browsers.
I do have a workaround for my problem; however, it seems to me that the Firefox 3/Java 1.6_22 plugin combination is funky by not running stop() first. Did I miss something?
Benjy

Maybe it is starting what it considers to be a new instance before it stops what it considers the old instance. Sounds pretty wrong though.

  • Disable java plugin in browser for obiee 10.1.3.4.0 analytics,bi publisher?

    Hi,
Company using obiee 10.1.3.4.0, installed on aix machine, using IBM websphere server for the presentation layer.
Due to the recent java security alert, my company like to disable the browser java plugin.
Question is does obiee needs the browser to have the java plugin?
Can obiee analytics and bi publisher work properly through the browser without java plugin? Hope some experts here can provide me some answers. Thanks in advance!

Thanks very much to responding to my question.
I tried by disabling the Java Plugin in my IE browser and open a few chart reports with no problem.

  • Firefox browser does not recognize Java plugin in 64 bit Linux

I am running Firefox12 on RHEL5 with Java6u31 installed. Unfortunately firefox will not recognize the java plugin. I have tried linking it in the appropriate directory (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/760718?e=es&as=aaq) and I get nothing. The only feedback I seem to get is that when I go to this website: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ it tells me that Firefox has "disabled my version of Java because it is outdated" which is total BS because I have the latest version! Typing in "about:plugins" only shows the flash plugin (which is in the same directory !!!!)
Java used to work in my browser and flash works fine and I've been trying for ages to get it to work again and I'm at a loss.
Doesn't anyone else have this problem ??????????

6.32 is the latest, check it in : [http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp Verify Java Version]
if update to 6.32 probably you have no problem.
    thank you

  • Java update 2012-006 did not remove Java plugin from any browser

I successfully installed Java update 2012-006 via Software Update on my iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 (German) and it updated the Java runtime to version 1.6.0_37 and removed the Java Preferences application as expected, but it did not remove the Java plugin from any browser!
Safari and Firefox can still use the Java plugin as before.
I repaired permissions, rebooted, manually downloaded Java update 2012-006 and successfully installed it again without any change to the Java plugin: it is still present on my system and fully functional from any browser!
The web is full with messages from users missing the Java plugin after installing this update - but I could not find anything about the plugin not being removed!
Is anyone experiencing the same behaviour under Lion? I thought this would happen only under Snow Leopard...
What should I do now? Can I really trust this "successfull installation" of Java update 2012-006 on my system?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Thanks - I will keep the symlink in place and I won't touch the Deploy bundle, because I need the plugin in Safari and I don't need Oracle's Java 7 for now...
If the plugin is supposed to stay in the Deploy bundle, this could help others who miss the plugin - they could just recreate the symlink, right?
To summarize I think we can state, that the Java update 2012-006 for Lion and Mountain Lion sometimes leaves the symlink in /Library/Internet Plugins/ untouched.
The circumstances that lead to this behaviour are still unknown.
The install log in Console shows that the scripts to create links and to delete obsolete files ran okay, but there was an error with the "postinstall" script. In spite of this the installation succeeded:

Does anybody know what "com.apple.mrt.uiagent" and "com.apple.mrt" stands for?
Obviously the "postinstall" script provides an invalid argument (at least on my system).
I have no idea if this is related to the Java Plugin symlink not being removed...

  • Which Java Plugin? Which Browser

    Hello,
I developed a simple chat program which used to work fine. I added a swing object to it, and now it is not displayed on some browsers. What is the version of Nestcape, Explorer, I need to have and which plug-in do I need?
    --CS.

Swing needs the Java plugin to display on any/all IE browsers. Use the current plugin available for download at java.sun.com. IE5, 5.5 and 6 all work well. NS6 is the only Netscape browser that I've seen recommended, but I'm only repeating what I hear, since I dont use it.
I don't understand the prior reponse, IE6 is the latest. He might be alluding to the fact that Windows XP (with its version of IE6) is shipping without a Java VM; Until MS starts including the VM again, all XP systems need to download the Sun Plugin before they'll display any Java.

  • ANSWER: HOW TO DETECT Java Plugin from JavaScript

I created a new topic because the questions about
how to detect Java Plugin in browsers are scattered
    thoughout this forum.
Basically you need to employ two approaches for IE and NS.
In IE you need to try to instantiate a small applet
(not your production applet) in order to see if browser
can do it. if the browser can do it, you can make a
call applet from JavaScript in order to find version of
JRE (as well as a host of other things).
In NS you can write a simple JavaScript which will
interrogate the browser for all plugins installed. Then
ypu can make a desicion whether to pass execution to
the next(or generated) page which hosts your applet,
or ask the user to download/install a plugin.
I ecourage everybody to host a plugin on your site
rather leave default link to it which is generated by
    html converter.
    In order to run sample,
    Prerequisites:
    Java Plugin 1.3.
If you have a different version of plugin,
substitute hardcoded plugin version in JavaScript for
    value that you have.
    1. compile java file
    2. put class file in the same directory with html file
    3. load html file into the browser.
    4. press "Check Java Plugin.." button
    5. see it work
    6. examine code
    7. uninstall plugin
    8. repeat steps 1 - 4
    9. see it work
    10. install plugin.
    Sample code follows:
    **********************HTML FILE BEGIN***********

In order to install the plugin I did the following:
    I removed the old plugin:
    rm -fr $Home/.netscape/.java

Then, to install the plugin I set the netscape environment variable :

How can I tell whether the netscape 4.7 browser is using this plugin??

  • I am running 10.5.8, and just updated my java to java 5 update10. Now my firefox is missing the Java plugin, and I can't load any Java applet at all. When I try it with Safari, it hangs when certain Java applet loads. HELP!!!

Suddenly my Java plugin is missing and i can't load any Java with Firefox at all, even though i have it enabled in the browser! i've tried loading in java embedding plugin, but it doesn't work. what should i do???

It's not in Tools> Add-ons >plugins?  Should be Java Plug-in 2 for NPAPI browsers 13.5.0. What are you seeing there? I don't think it's called the embedding plugin any longer.
Might try getting the Firefox 5 standalone application. Trash the current one and replace it. Doing this won't affect your Profile or any settings.

If it's enabled, how can it be missing?
If this doesn't work, ask here. No need to register. Make sure you put (Mac) in the title.

  • I am using oracle Apps ERP in firefox wherein there is a Java Plugin , This is working fine in 3.5 version but as soon as i am upgrading to the latest version oracle is not working and firefox crashes. I can't upgrade even though i wish to

We are using Oracle ERP in our company which is a web based ERP system. I am using firefox to work in ERP for convinieince pf working and using internet at the same time. This requires a plugin provided by oracle oajinit.exe to be installed in Plugins it is a JAVA plugin which opens the ERP Screens. This works fine in versions prior to 3.6 version of firefox. However, after upgrading to 3.6 version the forms do not open and firefox crashes. Due to this i am not able to upgrade to the latest version else i'll have to operate the ERP in internet explorer and using firefox for browsing which i do not want. The plugin used for the ERP is "* JInitiator 1.3.1.18 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)"

  • I have windows 7 64bit. When i installed firefox and then java, i do not have java tm platform or any java plugin. I can't watch free movie's online!!

As i told i have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit version. I install java and have problems with Java Deployment Toolkit and Java(TM) Platform SE. It won't show in add-on. I cant watch movies. When I play movie it says java is missing but when I use IE I can watch some movies. I try reinstaling Java and even reinstall Windows. But problem was still there. I run java check (from Firefox) to see if java is installed and it confrmed. I even try diferent versions of Java and Mozilla. I even use JDK and JRE. I install java for 64bit and mozilla is also for 64bit version of system.
I have another laptop with 32 bit version and everything works great. Installation procedure was same (only used 32bit versions of softwares).
When I go to control panel and java options (windows 64bit) enable java content in your browser is marked. But in advanced tab default java for browser (mozilla family) is unmarked. And when I mark box and leave (apply then ok) and return box is empty. It wont confirm. In 32bit version of laptop i have alsou java plugin but in 64 bit it is not there. Here is a picture what I was talking about. This is on windows 32 bit for 64bit is some just box for mozilla family is empty and under that java plugin do not exist.

you don't have to reinstall firefox or java, you can just download and install the 32bit-java next to your currently installed java version. it should then be picked up by firefox and be displayed under firefox > addons > plugins...

  • How do I get the SUN Java plugin to work in Firefox 8.0 or Seamonkey 2.6?

After a recent automatic upgrade of Firefox on my Xubuntu 11.04 system, the SUN Java plugin is no longer recognized by Firefox. I tried the old method of manually symlinking the corresponding library to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and various other directories that contained plugins, but to no avail. Other plugins like Flash work fine.
Having the SUN Java plugin working is a must for me in order to be able to access my online bank, the Citrix server at my workplace, etc.

    Also,
Exit Firefox and rename the '''pluginreg.dat''' in your profile folder and start Firefox again. This may help to reinitialize the plugins that Firefox recognizes.
