Java plugin for applets #2

Hi, Am I correct in saying that in order to run an applet developed with 1.4+ in Netscape
I have to use the following:
pluginspage="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.4/plugin-install.html"in my EMBED tag? This is documented on
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/using_tags.html
However when I actually go to the plugin-install.html I get a 404?
The idea is that I want to keep a local copy of whatever is referred in the pluginspage tag on the server so I dont have to go externally to fetch it. What exactly am I supposed to be getting a copy of? My environment consists of multiple browser types/versions on multiple OS types (Win/Mac/Linux)
If I understand plugins correctly I am supposed to be able to run applets with an "external" JVM. The word "external" in this context is meant as?
1) external to the browser?
2) external to the OS on which the browser resides?
I would have thought it is 2) otherwise I can't explain why 1.4 applets runs on classic MacOS with NS7..
Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

O.K., firts let me start by saying that it may help you to offer Duke Dollars when you post a question, and then award those to someone who helps you out. This will help provide stimulation for feedback to your posts from others.
To answer your question, the URL
pluginspage="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.4/plugin-install.html"
comes up 404 because of the Sun has swithced to version 1.4.1. The new URL is:
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/index.html#download
This takes out the version number of the original page (1.4) so that in the future HTML coders will not have to change the page after every new plugin version change. Also, the more important entry for the <OBJECT> tag is:
codebase = "http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/autodl/jinstall-1_4_1-windows-i586.cab#Version=1,4,1,0"
which specifies where the browser can automatically download the plugin from. Note, this WILL change from version to version (or it can change by you, depending on the desired version). For advanced people, I'm sure you can specify your own .cab file in this entry and have people download from you (like on a local server). Although, as I have not done this I can't speculate as to the time this would require. It is better not to stray from Sun's downloads anyway.

I am Fedora 13x64 bit. I just installed FF v6.0.2 from the FF download site. I backed up the existing FF 3.6 as firefox_old
I need to have a Java plugin to access company site, how do I configure the Java Plugin ?
At the Plugin area in FF6 there is no Java Plugin available, even after a search.
I have Java 1.6.0 installed in the OS at:

I googled how to configure Java Plugin for FF 6 for Fedora 13 and the trick was to create a soft link from /home/<userID>/.mozilla/plugins to the above libnpjp2.so

  • Sun java plugin for Safari for windows

    Dear Friends
I have installed Safari in Windows XP. I tried to load my applet through safari. It doesn't ask for signing and doesn't run the applet. Actually safari uses its own java plugin . Is there any option to use sun java plugin for that one and run the signed applets. please reply immediately

We (Sun) don't have much experience with Safari on Windows at this point. Going forward, the new Java Plug-In in 6u10 should work with Safari on Windows, once Safari upgrades their NPAPI and NPRuntime interfaces to the versions in Firefox 3.

  • Install Java plugin for IE without manual update or install

    Hi,
I have a client machine with JRE installed. Now i see the problem that java plugin is not installed in IE. Is there anyway i could manually register java plugin for IE without using installer or java update ? would it be possible to use command line argument or such alternative please let me know.

I would like to find a way to allow a user without
administrative rights to install the Java-Plugin for
using Java-Applets. As far as I understood, the
plugin can be installed in a silent way withou
registry modifiactions. Is this working for users
without admin rights?Could anyone please explain, why it is so difficult for Sun to create an installation package for user without admin rights? The whole "GetJava"-program doesn't make any sense for ordinary users if they get the JRE downloaded seamlessly and then the installation fails due to missing admin rights. This way Java would never succeed on the desktop.

  • Need Earlier Version of BB java plugin for eclipse 1.1.0 or 1.0

    Hello All
I need earlier version of BB Java Plugin for eclipse 1.1.0 or 1.0 for BB 4.5 to 5.0.
so Is there a place to download Blackberry Java Plug in for Eclipse 1.0?
if anyone can help please help me.

I maybe wrong, but I don't think there is. iBooks was only released in January 2010 and (from memory) I'm fairly certain iBooks always needed 4.0 or later.
More to the point though, what "possible problems" are you referring to? There are plenty of people who have downloaded 4.0 and now iOS4.1 without any problems at all. I'm one of them. Don't let "horror stories" in this forum put you off, no one posts a new topic with the title "I've had no problems". (That would probably be identified as the world's most boring post if it existed!)

  • Java plugin for Firefox and Chromium just not working

    Hi Arch Users
I have been suffering with the IcedTea-Web for a while now. My banking service (in their stroke of genius) use java on there online service. So a problamatic plugin means that I am not able to use the website while on Linux.
The issue is not specific to the bank's website. Doing the following is also problematic:
    1. Go to www.java.com
    2. Click on "Do I have Java?"
    3. Click on Verify Java Version
    4. Chromium does nothing after setp 3, Firefox has a small notification (bottom corner) saying Applet Started but nothign really happens (waited for 20min).
Searching the Forums, showed people with similar problems with an older plugin. An idea I did get was to use the latest branch and compile it. So I changed the PKGBUILD to download the latest using:
    hg clone http://icedtea.classpath.org/hg/icedtea-web
    ./autogen.sh
    ./configure --prefix=${_jvmdir} \
    --datarootdir=/usr/share \
    --with-jdk-home=${_jvmdir} \
    --with-firefox=/usr/bin/firefox \
    --with-chromium=/usr/bin/chromium
So currentely my FireFox reports the IcedTeaWeb as: IcedTea-Web Plugin (using IcedTea-Web 1.4pre+r6e622e87010e). Unfortunately the issue remains.
Please can anyone suggest me a way to overcome this issue. Currentely I have to use VirtualBox to run a browser in Windows (very very painful)!
A while back I did contact the bank, informing them of the issue was met with a simple "We dont support Linux".
    Cheers!

  • [SOLVED] Can't Find IcedTea7 Java Plugin for Firefox

    Hello everybody,
I'm new to Arch (have used Linux for some time but never got too deep into configurations and such). I've always just used proprietary versions of Java in the past, even on Linux, but now that I have a really cutomized Arch box, I'd like to try and support OpenJDK+IcedTea.
I followed the Wiki instructions by installing jre7-openjdk, jdk7-openjdk, and icedtea-web-java7 packages. All I want is to link to the plugin for firefox. However, I don't actually see the .so plugin file anywhere, nor do I know how to see where pacman installs things.
    I have a folder /usr/share/icedtea-web/ that contains the files about.jar, about.jnlp, netx.jar, and plugin.jar.
I remember .jar files are Java archives, but I actually have no idea what to do with them or how to use them as I'm not too familiar with Java (but I do run browser applets using the plugin).
I apologize for my noobness in this, but can anybody help me figure out how to find or acquire or extract the .so plugin file for firefox?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Great, thank you so much! Actually, it was already fixed before I read your reply, but it's still informative (I wasn't sure how to find file lists for pacman packages).
I just removed and reinstalled all the java packages and it worked. I might have done it in the wrong order or something when I did it the first time. I wasn't sure if the web test on the Java website checked for the Oracle plugin specifically or just a valid JRE implementation, but it worked, so I guess OpenJDK is working great so far.

  • Not able to see Java plugin for Linux RHEL 14.0.1

I have installed Mozilla Firefox 14.0.1, for Linux, but I'm having trouble seeing the Java 'plugin' (libnpjp2.so').
I believe I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux on a 32 bit machine, as detailed :-
    Linux localhost.127.0.0.1 2.6.18-128.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Dec 17 12:02:33 EST 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
I have installed the 32 bit version of Java :-
    [root@localhost /]# java -version
    java version "1.7.0_05"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_05-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 23.1-b03, mixed mode)
    from the 'pluginreg.dat' file I see :-
    [INVALID]
    /root/Oracle/Middleware/jdk160_11/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so:$
I'm referencing the 'Oracle' version of 'libnpjp2.so', as this appears to be the 32 bit version,
and I'm trying to configure Oracle APEX on this version of Linux.
I think I need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode, but don't know how, or if what I'm attempting to do is possible ?
Any feedback, would be most grateful.

The regular Firefox version as downloaded from the Mozilla server is a 32bit version
    *Firefox 14.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
A 32 bit Firefox version only works with a 32 bit Java version and you need to place symlink to the Java plugin file (libnpjp2.so) in a location where Firefox finds it.
Did you try to delete the pluginreg.dat file to force Firefox to create a new file?
