Java Preferences always shows Enabled cannot disable
I re-added the Java Preferences app on a clean install of Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro.
When I open Java Preferences, the "On" checkbox is always checked regardless if I uncheck it.
In ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.java.JavaPreferences... I see it setting JMEnanbled to 0 when I uncheck the box, but Java is still enabled!
I want to be able to disable Java completely when I am not using it.
I've searched and searched... I don't know that the issue is.
Version is 14.3.0 of the Java Preferences app.

I installed Java when Illustrator CS6 prompted me (apparently it does a Java test, even though on other Mac --Mac Pro running 10.6.8 with Java disabled-- Illustrator doesn't use Java)...
On my fresh install of Mt. Lion on my MacBook Pro, I installed the Java Preferences app from the OSX Installer > Packages > Java Essentials after CS6 had prompted me to install Java...
The System Preferences does not have a Java item, which is weird... I am not sure why.
I disabled Java in all the Web browsers (I wish that was a global setting for all users [I have two]). I do have to enable Java on occassion for Facebook-Skype chat (yuck).
So, the browsrs have Java disabled. But the Java Preferences app always shows "Enabled / On" checked. I thought had had turned it off (unchecked), but when launching CyberDuck, I see that it's still enabled with no way to turn it off.

I need some instructions to solve this problem, has anyone had the same problems? We just got an imac and changed from windows to mac. At first LR worked perfectly, all of a sudden I cannot import pictures anymore. Please help!!
The destination directory, where Lightroom is trying to copy photos to, does not have WRITE permission. Change your permissions.

If this code could work on Snow Leopard as well, that would be awesome. I have a code to tell if Java is enable or disabled on any web browser, but it does not detect if the Java Preferences "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications is enabled" is enabled or disabled. Just looking for a specific code to tell if this option is disabled or enabled.

Cannot disable "always show tab bar" in FF 28.0?
FF 19 had an option to deselect "always show tab bar" so that the tab bar is shown only when 2 or more tabs are open.
FF 28 seems to always show the tab bar. I don't see any way to disable that (unless 2 or more tabs are open).

That definitely "helps" insofar as you addressed my question dispositively.
However, I do not agree with the decision. How does removing one option substantially "simplify" things? How does forcing me to install an add-on "simplify" things for me, the customer?
FYI, I few add-ons as potential risks and a definite maintenance headache. A GUI add-on is probably more susceptible to compatibility issues.
If you want to "simplify" the GUI by removing one option from a menu (that isn't very "busy" in the first place; klunk!), at least provide an about:config option to control this behavior.
As for "facilitating future improvements", that is not my concern, a customer. Everything is SMOP.
I was in product development and maintenance for 35 years, and we always put the customer first. One of our cardinal rules was: do not remove a feature unless it is a security risk; and even then, we might leave an option to re-enable the feature "at your own risk".
Oh well, I'm probably p.i.s.s.ing into the wind. But thanks again for an accurate response. -
It is in the title. I am working on a web site and some tricky css and I cannot believe I cannot see where my horizontal scroll has gone? It has just disappeared. My whole day has been wasted trying to figure this out. It is nothing to so with the preferences.....always show scroll as my horizontal one is there? Please please help with this I feel like crying as I have so much to do and I cannot do anything?

Also, do a find in the CSS and HTML (inline css) for an overflow-x: hidden; . -
The option to Enable or Disable the Infrared is no longer in Sistem Preferences\Security and Privacy\General, any have and idea where is in Lion OS X that option???

Try resetting your PRAM and SMC to see if the IR receiver shows up after doing this.
Do you see the "IR Receiver" in the "USB" section of the "System Information" utility (previously "System Profiler")? -
Hello, In Lion 10.7.x I cannot disable the Lock documents for 2 weeks in Time Machine! Thus it prevents to change anything else like the system preferences or other settings. All is locked. How I can disable it?
Do you mean the check box isn't enabled?
Or you remove the check but it doesn't "stick"?
Or you remove the box but documents are stil getting locked?
That setting doesn't apply to other things in System Preferences, just apps that support AutoSave and Versions. If you're having a problem with System Prefs, please clarify exactly what. -

If it works on your computer's iTunes but not your phone then try logging out of your account on the phone by tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it
If it doesn't work on your computer nor iPhone then depending on why it's been disabled you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'

After uninstalling and installing several times, Java plug-in is still undetected. Support suggested I open up the control panel and click update but there isn't such an option. The advance tab, there aren't any options to enable or disable plug-ins.
If you're running Java 7, then in System Preferences > Java > Java Control Panel in the Security tab there is a check box to enable Java in your browser. To check for update go to the Update tab.

I have re installed IE11 several times via tools advanced etc.
Security level in IE 11 is normal. Enhanced security is off.
I even installed Local policy Editor, and via gpedit.msc, did the following :
1, click Start menu
2, type gpedit.msc in search box, press Enter to open Local Group Policy Editor
3, expand User Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Windows Components-->Internet Explorer
4, in right window, find out and double click Do not allow users to enable or disable add-ons
5, click Not Configured or Disabled
6, click OK to save settings
Allas, everyhting failed, and I still cannot change my add-ons, it is blocked.

Using Mac OSX10.6.7 and FF 4.0.1, I'm having a problem with the preference to always show the tab bar. I want it to always show. I check this in the Preferences under the "tab" window, and everything is fine until I quit FF and when I restart FF the tab bar is gone again. I go into preferences, and that option is now unchecked. How can I fix this so that my preference is saved?
That hasn't helped the last ten times I tried. I posted before. I deleted the preferences file, I tried changing the preferences file, I went into about:config and changed the autoHide preference there. No dice. Firefox is not saving my preference for that one thing.

I have iphone 4s with iO6. My problem is I can no longer update my apps since "cannot connect to itunes store" always shows on my screen when i try to. Tried fixing by changing the dates, turning off location as suggested in some forums but both didn't work! Please help!! Thanks.
You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them. -
