Java Preferences not opening

I have been trying to access my java preferences, but does not seem to be able to open up; I included clip from my screenshot, not sure how much it will help but here you go. Operating on version 10.6.8
What do I do? Anything I try to open that requires java shows almost identical window with the only difference being "Cannot launch '_______'"
Thanks!

Locate the version of Java that’s installed on your Mac OS X system.
1. Open the Utilities folder and run the Terminal application.
2. Type java -version and press Enter.
(space between java & -v important)
The version of Java that you have installed will then be displayed on the screen.

My mac book pro in system preference not open so how guide to sample?

    Hello,
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • When I try to remote access to my VPN email a java preference box opens and will not do anything more.

I have always been able to remote access to my office email through VPN access. Now when I try to, a Java preference box pops up and there seems to be no way to get past it. Before, java would just load. Now it won't. I had my operating system upgraded and Java reinstalled but this did not solve the problem.
    Any ideas?

    Please post a screenshot.

  • Mail, Skype, Safari and some system preferences not opening

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem....my mac starts up but seems to skip loading things at the loading screen when it boots - When it gets to the desktop, Skype, mail (mac default program), and Safari do not open when clicked - I tried to go to user accounts in system preferences and that fails to open also - AIM, Fireofx and Transmit (FTP program) all work fine and are able to connect to the interent - It has done this before (months ago) and I ended up having to do a system restore to go back to factory settings - Yesterday it started this again and after 1/2 hour mail just popped open and all was well - It has been on for 4 hours so far and none of those programs are working - Has anyone else had issues like this ? any suggestions? I am using a Power Mac G5 cpu 1.8ghz and 1.25 gb of ram and 10.3.9 for system version - Any help is greatly appreciated
    thanks

Have you done the basics? Repaired permissions, cleared caches, run cron jobs, booted from DVD and run disk repair etc.?
It seems that when you did a restore, which I presume is an archive and install, it cleared up then over time whatever you do is corrupting things or the drive is on its last legs. Add a new drive (cheap) , clone the boot drive to it with Super Duper (free) and boot from that for a while.

  • System Preferences - Display Preferences ---- not opening

In my Snow Leopard 10.6.5 under System Preferences only Display Preferences not loading. It is giving error "System Preferences cannot be opened because of a problem".
I tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM. Also is deleted the file com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Still it did not solve the issue.
Please let me know how i can solve the issue.

Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. Then have your corporate IT reinstall the image and use the Migration Assistant to restore all of your customizations. See these for details:

  • Jvm.dll error; Java will not open from control panel

    Hi,
I am not too familiar with Java so bear with me. When loading some pages in I.E., they crash and I get an error message asking to send the error info to Microsoft. It mentions jvm.dll...also, I tried to open Java icon in control panel, but it will not open. I tried going to Sun home page, but it crashes with a few seconds. Help!!
    Thanks a lot!!

  • Java preferences not saved

Mac OS 10.7.4 running Java Preferences 14.3.0
Java preferences blocks my use of VPN (Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client 1.0). The Cisco VPN is a Java Webstart app and the Java preference "Enable blacklist revocation check" prevents it from making a connection (it freezes). I uncheck this box in the advanced Java Preferences utility and all is fine. Until I go to connect the next time and find that the "Enable blacklist revocation check" preference has been checked again and VPN freezes.
Why won't Java Preferences remember my selection?

    Thanks Linc;
I played around with quiting and relaunching; this did not affect the setting.
I found the culprit was my disk utility Cocktail that deletes User Caches. I disabled the delete user Java Caches and now the setting is stable. I now wonder how many other oddities in my system are due to my diligent clean up efforts.

  • LAF and Java Plugin not opening in some machines

    Hi all,
I have strange problem in my forms 10g application. We have implemented LAF in our Forms 10g application that requires to use Sun Java Plugin.
In formsweb.cfg, the sun java plugin version that would be downloaded is - 1.4.2. For most of my users they have version 1.5.0_13 installed already. All users are able to run the application without any problems.
Only in one machine, it does not open up the form applet and instead opens a blank form on IE version 7.
I have other machines with same config Windows XP and IE 7 and they work fine. They too have the Javaplugin version 1.5.0_13 installed and it does not prompt the user to download 1.4.2 version.
Can anyone help me to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    RK

Thanks. But It is not solely about LAF. It is just that my form applet is not getting dowloaded as soon as user opens application on browser. It is the whole applet nothing about LAf. But still I would send the email.
    Thanks,
    RK

  • Con't. Serious error message re Mail.app w/respect to Mail Preferences not opening...

    Hi all (& Linc)
    In an earlier thread,
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25906027#25906027
I prematurely reported a problem with Mail.app prefs not opening as being solved, when it turns out it hasn't been. The freezing of Mail.app upon invocation of Mail Prefs reintroduced itself, both with a suspected culptrit (the great DPS by Bongiovi) turned on and off and Quit Then, without any noticeable input, Mail.app suddenly righted itself and works as normal. I ran a test in Console and saw this foreboding log readout. It may still involve DPS. I'm reporting this same to the savvy engineers at Bongiovi, as well. What's to be done? I may be stumped, but I'm not giving up...
    All best,
    David

  • Java Preferences not picking up changes

Ok .. well.. all of a sudden, Java Preferences isn't picking up the Java version that I've set.
I want to find out what stuff the Java Preferences app modifies so I can check and see what is going on with my system.
Yes, JAVA_HOME is not set, when I echo it, it returns an empty line.
I created a clean user account and yes it DOES work, so I need to find out what setting has caused my own account to be borked.
    I checked my bash_profile, /etc/profile, /private/etc/bashrc, /private/etc/profile and all do not have JAVA_HOME anywhere.
Can anyone help? I've spent too long on this silly thing >.<

Since the issue is specific to your original user account, you can proceed in two ways. One is to log into your new account, make a list of the preference files (plists) located in /username/Library/Preferences/, including any in the ByHost subfolder, log back into the original account, move everything on that other account's list from the original account's Preferences folder into a newly created folder on the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if the problem goes away. If so, you can copy the ones in the Desktop folder (one at time) back into /Preferences/, restart, and see if the problem returns. If so, you've identified the corrupt/conflicting one. Continue with all of them until isolating the bad ones. That'll save you the trouble of resetting preferences.
The second way is much more detailed and I'll not burden you with the steps unless the above doesn't fix the issue.

    Hi,
The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

  • WD Java iView not opening in Safari

    Hi All,
    System: EP6.0
I have a WD Java iView in portal that opens fine with IE and Mozilla but shows a blank view on Safari.
The same application when viewed directly via link http://<HOST>:<PORT>/webdynpro/dispatcher is also displayed properly
    on Safari.
We know that Safari is not the recomended browser etc. but still if the application can be viewed from the above link
there must be something on portal framework that prevents the WD app to be displayed.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Thanks
    Avinash

If I recall correctly, I have seen this behavior once using Safari on SAP EP 6.40...
Could you try to set your WD iView isolation method to URL instead of Embedded?
Since the portal uses some additional scripting (EPCM etc) and CSS styling, changing the isolation method might help
    Hope this helps,

  • Why is 'Dock Preferences' not opening? (Snow L)

Hi, without any reason I tried to open Dock Preferences to change my Screen Saver and it is just not responding.  I am on Snow Leopard - 10.6.8  I have tried Repair Disk etc but to no avail. It just won't come out to play!!!!  Advice please!

I am replying to my own post here......I went back in the galaxy of Time Machine, found the last time I had System Preferences in and clicked Restore and Bingo!
I am still mystified as to why it disappeared when I had not even looked at it for a couple of weeks, mmmmmm!

  • Preferences not opening after asking for restart

As we all know, when using 3rd party preferences panes the preferences asks you to restart (I think to go into 32/63-bit mode)
But when I press ok, it quits then doesn't open again, It's extremely annoying and cripples my productivity and use of this computer.
3rd party prefpanes I have installed are:
    DivX
    Flip4Mac WMV
    Geektool
    Glimmer Blocker
    Growl
    MacFUSE
MultiClitch (just installed this, so it's not the reason)
    Pen Tablet (wacom)
    Perian
    SynergyKM
    Version Cue CS3

hmm, I looked at your screenshot again and it seems your system preferences.app is much smaller than mine. let's check if it even contains 32-bit code.
run the following command in terminal 9copy and paste please)
    file /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences
it will list available architectures for this app. normally it will list 3 - PPC, 32bit intel and 64-bit intel. the output should look like this
    /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences: Mach-O universal binary with 3 architectures
    /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64
    /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences (for architecture i386): Mach-O executable i386
    /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences (for architecture ppc7400): Mach-O executable ppc
what do you get? btw, did you do anything special when installing Snow leopard? did you use a regular SL install DVD, did you customize the install? did you use any tools that remove stuff from the installation like Monolingual?
