As the command line instructions use "sudo", I recommend "cut and pasting" them directly to the terminal.
If you want to uninstall and revert back to the Apple standard version, I'd re-download from Apple and re-install.

How can I launch older versions of my Java WebStart application, that are built and run with Java 7u21 or earlier, even if Java 7u25 is installed locally on the client? Application launch and behaviour must be reliable and consistent.
Background:
As of 7u25 (and later), Java Webstart applications launch with a different class loader than pre-7u25.
My Java Webstart application has supported versions that were built with older versions of the JDK (e.g. Java 5, 6, 7u21 or earlier). These applications run with their required JRE version, enforced through JNLP. Once Java 7u25 is installed locally, these older applications fail to launch, due to classloader differences.
The question is: what is required to run older Java WebStart applications even if 7u25 (or later) Java Webstart is installed locally on the client?

I confirm your findings when using shortcuts to try specific versions of JavaWS with 7u25 or later installed:
JRE 5u14 launched and the classloader was as pre 7u25
JRE 6u43 would not launch
JRE 7u21 launched but the classloader was not as pre 7u25
You can launch the shortcut with the JavaWS -verbose option to display a messagebox with valuable information.
I am keeping a close watch on this thread.

Hi, I want to TEST my RESTful WebService in my JAVA Enterprise Application.
I have a bit database in my EJB Module. Resuming, I have two modules (EJB + WAR) and Enterprise Application (JAVA EE that contains the before modules). Appears two kind of errors:
1) When I only deploy JAVA Enterprise Project an then I run my TEST Restful, appears an error that says: "Another module has been deployed" . This error is about JAVA Enterprise Application has been deploy before.
2) If I only deploy TEST Restful, this doesn't find Facaderemote class of my EJB Module, because WAR Project hasn't the EJB references.

Airport Utility 6.0 where are Printers settings? Disks settings are very limited.

After update to Airport Utility v.6.0 on my Airport Extreme I found that new versions has no Printers settings at all. I can see my printer on my Macs as well I can manage it from another Mac having older Airport Utility version, but not from a new one....
Additionally, new Airport Utility version has very limited settings for managing disks connected to it.
I even, at the beginning, was thinking that it put Airport Express firmware to my Extreme.
Firmare update works fine. An update on Express was not smooth, as it lost conncectivity with my Extreme, but after reset it - I got it back (the upgrade changed network name that an Express is talking to an Extreme by removing brackets from its wifi name)

I've compiled a catch-all list of problems and changes with Airport Utility version 6.0 and FW 7.6.1. Some of the items may be relevant to this thread.
THE PROBLEMS WITH AIRPORT UTILITY 6 AND FIRMWARE 7.6.1:
Introduction: If you find AirPort Utility v6.0 too limiting or strange, you can ALSO install AirPort Utility v5.6, released alongside v6.0, to maintain all your previous capabilities. It works fine with both Airport g and n devices.
PLEASE NOTE: According to Apple you must FIRST install Airport Utility v6.0 in order to access and install Firmware upgrade 7.6.1. Do that first. THEN install Airport Utility v5.6 and use it instead if you prefer.
1) According to Apple's documentation, Airport Utility version 6.0 is ONLY for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. It is NOT for 10.6 Snow Leopard. If you accidentally installed v6, you'll have to dig around in Apple - Support - Downloads for the previous relevant version for your devices and OS version. Here is the relevant page:

2) The HELP for Airport Utility has been updated. When you first access it you may well be looking at the old Help. It is supposed to update itself spontaneously over the Internet. It took a couple minutes in my case. Be sure you are looking at the NEW Help before you start using it. One way to tell is that the list of help topics essentially doubles from what there used to be. Also, the very first topic in the NEW Help should read:
"Set up an AirPort device > Set up a new AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule"
3) The HELP has some WRONG information. Here we go:
3a) There is NO "Enable Guest Network" setting. You CANNOT create a guest network or name it or give it any settings. Why this is still listed in Help, I have no idea. Why the setting is gone: This is most likely because the technology behind guest networks, WPS, has been thoroughly CRACKED in the wild. Google "WPS cracked" for lots of documentation of the situation. It won't be resolved soon.
3b) I can't find any 'Setup Assistant". Everything is now manual. This is not to say that there isn't a setup assistant that appears when you FIRST set up your Airport device. I don't know.
4) After installing Airport Utility v6.0, there is no indication of the accompanying firmware update until you decide to run the new version. Even then, you have to click on the big icon of your Airport device and notice an 'Update' button about halfway down the popup window. You then have to assume that this button is telling you to update your firmware.
5) After you update your Airport device's firmware, you may well discover an ERROR subwindow popping up inside Airport Utility that says:
"An error occurred while updating the firmware. -6721"
Don't panic! All you need to do is go into your Wi-Fi settings, either in your menubar or the Network preferences, and turn OFF Wi-Fi, then turn ON Wi-Fi again. This is part of a long standing bug in Lion's Wi-Fi with which I bet you are already familiar, certainly up through Lion version 10.7.2.
6) Miscellaneous changes in Airport Utility 6:
6a) The keyboard command to manually change your Airport devices settings is GONE. You have to click the little 'Edit' button after clicking on the big icon for your device.
6b) There is no longer any summary window for your Airport device. You have to instead click on the big "Internet" icon for related data, then click on the big icon for your Airport device for local settings data.
6c) There is no longer any HELP advising users to EXPORT their settings. (The Help only talks about Import of settings). BE SURE TO EXPORT YOUR NEW SETTINGS! I did this immediately after both updates.
6d) MAC address filtering for Airport devices is GONE.
6e) All references to IPV6 anywhere are GONE. I have to assume the IPV6 settings are now entirely working and entirely automatic. Let's hope so.
6f) Signal and Noise data and graphs are GONE. Use Apple's Wi-Fi Diagnostics app instead. Apple have hidden it here in Lion:
/System/Library/CoreServices/W-Fi Diagnostics
6g) In order to access the menu items in Airport Utility, you have to first click on the big icon for your Airport device.
--> No doubt there are other changes, oddities or bugs related to these changes. But this is what I came up with during a cursory strafing of the software.

Java card application and applet

I' am developing a java card application which has three applets (1-ID, 2-Purse, 3-Library). I mean the same card should be use for personal ID, purse, and as library card. Using eclipse I first have to create a new project.
File-New-New project-java card project. Then in the package Explorer view right click src then New-other-java card Applet. My question is because my java card application has more than one applet how do I add the other two. Should I add the other two by clicking src again or just add them under the same source code belonging to the java card Applet created at the beginning.

I called Verizon today......stopped in to the store today......My neighbor told me they waved charges for her one time. Lots of charges.....But I'm am getting no help. Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out. I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!! Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them? We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.

Will ADF fusion applications matchup as Java EE 6 has arrived?

Here is my view as a simple developer who doesn't like complications :)
1)With ADF, the first thing that wowed me long back was how well integrated the stack is, calling business logic from frontend was quite easy as JDeveloper did lot of work of creating relevant XML files and so on. With Java EE 6, i simply use CDI to inject EJB's in managed beans and start using it right away. Infact EJB's can now be also included in WAR files which i guess will be a good news for small to medium scale applications using Java EE6 web profile. Isn't CDI a better approach for integration rather than lots of XML files. Isn't Java EE 6 more intuitive approach rather than developer having to worry about additional resources being added to the project?
2)I love ADF since we can setup validation in Entity objects and it gets reflected in frontend too. With Java EE 6, bean validation i get almost similar features as validation code is not repeated in every tier.
3)ADF involves a steep learning curve with additional lookup in Business Object API's for various scenarios as well as knowledge of core JSF. With Java EE 6 providing seamless integration, the learning curve is lot less, JSF 2.0 + EJB CDI Bean Validation combination seems sufficient for most projects.(CDI specification only about 100 pages, Bean Validation specification about 145 pages and this year itself books related to Java EE 6 will be out for those who don't like the specification approach)
4)I always had issues with ADF applications taking lot of time to startup. I tried some sample Java EE 6 application(on glassfish v3), using JSF2.0 + EJB combination. They start as fast as pure JSP applications. Plus the memory required by Netbeans(with integrated Glassfish v3) is quite less.(JDeveloper + Weblogic+ Oracle XE require lots of space). Netbeans(i use it just because it has support for Java EE 6) starts in around 10 secs whereas JDeveloper takes around a minute at least on my PC.
5)Java EE 6 applications will run on all compliant servers and already development is on for Java EE 6 compliance. Such claims cant be made for current ADF applications. Isn't it a kind of application server vendor lock in?
6)I have personally found jsf libraries like Rich faces, Prime faces, Ice faces quite easier to use than ADF Faces. For the former cases, i simply look up the demo show cases and use the relevant code in my projects. Using ADF faces is easy with JDeveloper but when i look at the source code, i find it much more complex than other JSF libraries, lots of binding stuff in it. With richfaces, prime faces etc, i get a sense of control over the UI code. Granted ADF has more components then any other JSF framework, but really using a particular JSF library like RichFaces or Prime Faces is more then sufficient for me. Plus some libraries are already JSF 2.0 compliant. At the start, i was impressed by the charting components which ADF provided, but now virtually every JSF library provides them. Pages can be edited at source code level in other libraries, i cant imagine doing the same with ADF Faces.
7)ADF Faces is currently not free (at least till the last time i checked it), many other libraries are. Thats a big big plus for small budget projects who dont happen to have Weblogic.
8)When i tried building demo application using ADF, first of all Weblogic takes a lot of time to start, plus it took lot of time to just view a modified page. Glassfish v3 starts in just few seconds, plus pages are served quite quickly. I did follow some steps in various blogs about how to improve performance of JDeveloper+Weblogic for development purposes. However JDeveloper + Weblogic combo create-edit-test time is more than netbeans +glassfish v3 combo. Infact i have always wondered, why i am forced to test my ADF applications on a production level server like Weblogic and not on smaller ones like tomcat or even full EE servers like glassfish. If am forced to use a particular server for testing, then i expect quick runs. Visual Studio with integrated IIS is so fast, in fact there is hardly any wait time to see a modified page.(I have developed both Java EE as well as Asp.net applications, and i guess mentioning them is OK since its also a component oriented framework)
9)This is a rather offbeat point. Asp.net framework offers Gridview, a table control which is heavily used by .net guys.(Infact a new control ListView has arrived which offers far more features). In ADF lazy loading tables, there is no direct paging available(i mean paging where we actually see the pager control), with developers having to find out ways to include paging. In other library say PrimeFaces, there is table control which has lazy loading as well as paging built in. Cant there be such a control in ADF with paging as well as template based approach like ListView of Asp.Net? In fact i still haven't found a flexible control like ListView in Java arena. Guess i have to build one since JSF 2.0 has made buildings controls very easy :)
With Java EE 6, JSF 2.0 + EJB + CDI + Bean Validation, do we need the overall complexity which ADF applications inherently have?

Good to hear that Java EE 6 is being considered in ADF future development. For once, a standard seems developed by fellow developers rather than over engineered stuff coming out of a committee meeting( well it started with Java EE 5).
For me, another framework is required only if a standard doesn't suffice all the needs. I mean why increase a developers burden by making him learn whims and fancies of new framework with all its API, its usage, etc.And Java EE 6 has lots of features to satisfy a wide variety of development scenarios.
1) Actually, i wasn't pointing to injecting specific code in model. For eg: [this |http://www.adam-bien.com/roller/abien/entry/ejb_3_1_killed_the], [simple javaEE6|http://www.adam-bien.com/roller/abien/entry/simplest_possible_jsf_2_ejb] .All business logic in session bean, clueless about how its going to be utilized by any front end. When i use a particular UI technology, say JSF 2.0. i simply inject the session bean in one of my JSF managed bean and start using it. No XML files, no binding directly visible for the developer, all binding magic taken care of courtesy, CDI. In fact now a JSF managed bean doesn't need to declared in faces-config.xml, a simple @ManagedBean and scope declaration is enough, one , two , three
Even i am skeptical about how annotations which are being liberally used affects project maintenance. Hope it doesn't turn out to be annotation Hell!
With JPA 2.0 including lots of new features, JSF 2.0 being enhanced further, a lot of development scenarios seems already covered.
3)It really took a lot of time for me to get a hang of ADF. Simple applications are easy to manage, but reading the developers guide took a while.(The guides are really good, the best thing about oracle is how well documented there products are).
5)Actually i tried porting a sample ADF application on Tomcat. Wasn't successful at it. (Actually i gave up since i didn't have that much time). A official support for ADF on various servers would be great.
6)ADF BC as business layer and ADF Faces as UI does involve bindings. Plus a extra binding xml file for each JSF page. With Java EE 6, i have no extra items in my project.
Am looking forward to how JDeveloper, the IDE of choice for me, provides support for Java EE 6,specifically if any annotation GUI kind of support is provided for DI.
7)I wasn't saying that ADF is not worth its price tag. Just that free alternatives are available which may suffice many projects.
9)About components, a pager control is so much required. I mean for web applications, if we present a product list to the user, he gets a sense of number of products in a list just by looking at the pager below. Better user experience can be achieved by pager control then scrollable tables. Say for amazon.com or ebay.com with search results in a scrollable table wont be acceptable. Plus pager provides a sense of completion than scrolls as the user doesn't have to worry if he has missed a item by scrolling past it. How many ecommerce sites out there use scrollable tables instead of pager? ADF should have catered to this large audience who prefer to have page numbers, prev, next, first, last buttons.
ListView in Asp.Net is very flexible. It can display a table of data with pager , plus it supports templates. With typical JSF table controls, they are rendered only as rows in a table. With ListView i can display the data in any format i want. So a particular list item info is not restricted to be in a row format. I can display it in whichever form i want( for eg: if i am displaying a product list to a user, i place a image to left, price, product info to the right), plus i get paging too.
Am sure JDeveloper + ADF + Java EE 6 will be a deadly combo just as it was for Java EE 5. Looking forward to it :)

I HAVE ADOBE PREMIERE ELEMENTS 10. I used to have many options on the "Disc Menu" to set up my DVD.. and now it is very limited..almost no templates. I try to sign in to my account through Premiere and it will never sign on. Anyone have any thoughts??

With versions earlier than 11, there is no more Sign In. If you get any message to that effect, ignore and cancel out of them. You should be able to move forward to your import, editing, and exports using the program nonetheless.
As for the disc menus, those marked photoshop.com plus members only are no longer available to you in versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 11. You may see the thumbnails for those members only items, but they are no longer available to you in Premiere Elements earlier than 10.
Interestingly, many of them are found in Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 as part of the program with no need to purchase them or have any special membership in anything. Adobe has promoted Adobe Revel as a replacement for photoshop.com, but that has no impact on this disc menus issue.
This all has to do with Adobe discontinuing photoshop.com and photoshop.com plus et al.

How do I transfer my data from damaged computer to my new itunes library on my current functioning computer. My data plan has a very limited band width cap ( I live in rural Alberta

Hello: following computer malfunction,I purchased a new computer and downloaded itunes. when I try to sync my purchased data on my ipad I am asked to delete data from previous library. The first library has all of my stored data. How do I transfer this data to my new itunes library? . I cannot use the cloud as my data plan has a limited band width cap ( I live in rural Alberta , northern).My library may be on my tera drive, but then how do i delete this library once I transfer the files, that is if i am able to locate them ? this is a question for all itunes lovers, I love it when i know how to use it, so far not computer literate to loving it! thanks so very much for considering this problem.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

the language as English, console displays the following error and the installation
stops, please advice

Hi.
What jdk version is currently installed on your solaris 8 machine? If it is not
already a 1.3.x version I suggest you install that first and put the bin directory in
your path. You might also check with Sun to see if there are any relevant OS patches
required by your jdk (or jdk 1.3.1) in order to run.

Pixma Pro 100 options very limited

I'm running a Mac with OS 10.9 The print options seem very limited as well as confusing. Not only can I not add my own
presets, I can't even choose between color or vlack or white! I've reinstalled the printer, but same results. Would it help to
uninstall the entire Canon Utilities folder and reinstall once more? Many thanks in advance. pah

Sun Java System Application Server Vs Tomcat

I wonder if someone could explain the benefits that SJSA could provide over Tomcat.
Is Sun Java System Application Server a Web server like Tomcat ? Or it falls under different server category than Web server ?

This is a complex issue and has caused some strong words in our group as well.
Tomcat is more likened to Sun Web Server. They are both JSP/Servlet containers. Sun Application Server is the full J2EE stack.
For flexibility down the road I'd go with Sun Application Server 9.1 +
- Documentation on tuning is much more straightforward
- Sun Support as an option (if you want that :) )
- Patches deployed for Application Server by Sun
- Http server included in Sun Application Server is much more robust than the Http server in Tomcat.
- Sun Application Server is a full out J2EE server not just a JSP / Servlet container.
- Clustering options very from memory replication to full out HADB (yikes!)
What's good about Tomcat that's not in Sun Application Server?
- Very Lightweight JSP/Servlet container
- Higher degree of familiarity with developers and applications (at this point)
This is probably going to cause a flurry of activity but I'm about to head home so why not throw my 2 cents in.

Problem with Java-based application and WebVPN

Hello. Could you please help me in find out any specification/known limitations in using Java-based applications through WebVPN in Cisco ASA 5520 v8.3(2).
A customer of mine has got in trouble in using a Java viewer for graphical files that is invoked by another application (this one correctly served via WebVPN), that cannot be launched because JVM does not find it (NullPointer).
Our suspects are generically about the URL rewriting of the WebVPN and/or unsupported configuration in the ASA SSL certificates vs Java.
Any hint about where to search or what to try?
