Java process help

Hi.. please i need to know how to prohibit a java program to run more than once.
I mean.. if the program is running, then if i execute the program another time, it will not open..
This requires the knowledge of the processes running, and prohibit the process from running again if it is already running..
Thanks

... processes should write their PID in that file; the second
process should check whether or not that particular process is still
alive and continue starting up if the other process had simply
left its garbage behind ;-)Not sure we have access to PID without JNI?Hm, me neither ... I guess I'd just fallen back to my old Unix habits ;-)
I'm afraid a Java process has to prove it's alive by some other technique;
maybe it should keep a socket open and answer something simple to
any request on that socket, just to show that it's still alive ...
kind regards,
Jos

  • Java process - high CPU usage

    Hi,
    I'm describing a high CPU scenario which gets triggered randomly ( I'm not able to replicate it on my lab setup).
    There are around 120 threads which are running in my java process. The jvm is running on a high traffic (through put) site, where there are a lot of async events coming to the java process.( around 220 events per 60 seconds ). The java process works fine in this scenario, the normal CPU consumption hovers around 1.5 % to 2.0 %.
    But, at times, I've seen CPU to be as high as 43 %, and it stays at that value for hours altogther. In those situations, I usually do a failover to standby java process. I tried debugging the issue to see which java thread could be causing the issue, but, I could not come to a conclusion or replicate the situation in lab environment.
    Here are the details of the execution environment
    java -version
    java version "1.4.2_11"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_11-b06)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_11-b06, mixed mode)

    Some more points about the last prstat -Lm output.
    java/2 is "VM Thread" ( responsible for GC). "VM Thread" is having a NORMAL priority ( 5 )
    java/26 is a "Worker" thread, with priority MINIMUM ( 1 ).
    Could you suggest what could be issue, and what other information I could collect to find out the issue. Its difficult to profile the process because the problem scenario is difficult to ascertain and the process is running on a production setup.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sanjay

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response. Both, the production setup and lab setup have have 2 physical CPUs.
    Actually, there are two java threads ( machine is solaris 10) one is "VM Thread" and other is my applications worker thread. (there are 10 of them with priority 1). If you look at the top two lwps in the prstat -Lm , both are showing high value of ICX.
    I'm still not able to drill down to my code level. (Worker thread is waiting on a queue to de-queue server request). Could you give some hint to move foward?

  • Ps -p running very slow (1-2 seconds) on Java process

    Hi Solaris gurus:
    I encountered a issue that running ps -p on java process running very slow, it took almost 2 seconds to complete.
    I issued a truss on the "ps -p " command, the following is part of the output:
    /1: 0.0001 fstat(1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1F0) = 0
    /1: 0.0000 write(1, " U I D P".., 55) = 55
    /1: 0.0002 open("/proc/19299/psinfo", O_RDONLY) = 3
    */1: 1.3170 read(3, "02\0\0\0\0\0\011\0\0 K c".., 416) = 416*
    /1: 1.2401 close(3) = 0
    /1: 0.0002 stat("/dev/tty", 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE830) = 0
    It seems that the read() spent the most time.
    Anyone can help?

    Not enough memory, page-outs is too large
    8.91 GB    Page-outs
    After removing adware, and do a safe boot of Safari and remove extensions, then reset cache history etc. You need to do a boot into Recovery Mode and run Disk Repair from there. Also boot the system in Safe Mode.
    On startup it sounds like you have a problem with the directory which would also account for long startups and checking the directory. Along with or instead of DU Repair Disk you can use Single User Mode and fsck -fy to try to fix the directory but in some cases that may not be enough.
    Backups from before you got this adware and problems helps and should always be ready and able to restore a system from known good backups or system restore image.
    4GB of RAM may have been fine originally but "Early 2011" is now 5 years and 4 OS version changes. You can upgrade the memory and while at it consider a nice SSD internal drive which will help as well. Take a look and see what prices and options there are from http://www.macsales.com for your 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • RFC execution process terminates the Java Process

    Hi All,
      we have a RFC which returns large data with export parameter. While executing JCO.client.execute(), java process is getting terminated. I tried to set the more heap size but of no use. It didn't give any OutOfMemory either.
    The JCO trace file at level 10 shows as below which clearly indicates that something is going wrong at JNI layer of JCO.
    The problem seems to be with allocation of heap size in 'C' layer of JCO.<b>The trace file has below last entries</b>
    <i>JMS Async S21514 [14:34:47:386]: [JNI-LAYER] RFC.Tables_C2Java()                                          enter, [SUCCESS]
    JMS Async S21514 [14:34:47:386]: [JNI-LAYER] RFC.reallocRecordBuffers()                                   enter, [SUCCESS]
    JMS Async S21514 [14:34:47:386]: [JNI-LAYER] RFC.reallocRecordBuffers("ZWNVPAIR"(4AB2BB8C),54D1A740) enter [SUCCESS]</i>
    It seems to suggest that reallocRecordBuffers was never completed and it is this call which could be responsible for java process getting killed.
    I think a successfull call will be recorded as below in JCO trace file:
    Completion of RFC call will be recorded as below in JCO trace file:
    <i>JMS Async S21514 [14:34:47:386]: [JNI-LAYER] RFC.Tables_C2Java()                                          enter, [SUCCESS]

    </i>
    Can anyone please help me here in understanding the above behavior?

    Thanks for reply. Where can i see the timeOut ineterval for Connection or Client object? I am not able to figure out any API which can be used to set the timeout behavior.

  • Why java process crashes frequently

    We are facing an issue with our Oracle CMS server which is a java process. Content server instance is going down again and again within 5 minutes. We don't see any entries in the content server log files. However there is a crash dump of the java process that we get. I am attaching log entries here. Can any one please guide by looking at the logs as what could be the probable issues for the crash.

    Looks like Stellent comes with the JRE built in, judging from the stuff in the shared-libs. This smells like a HotSpot bug - you might dig around in the Sun bug database and see if there's anything similar there. In any event, the advice to work with oracle/Stellent is sound, since everything in that log points at something either in Stellent or in the Sun JRE itself.

  • Java process table empty after upgrade solution manager 7.1 Sp10

    Hi Experts,
    I have installed solution manager 7.1 SP3 and completed the SP10 patch upgrade using SUM tool. The upgrade was completed successfully. After upgrade igswd was red. Then i copied the Igs files in kernel files. Now ABAP instance and Igs is working now but JAVA is not coming up. JAVA process table also empty. Can any one help me to solve this issue. Attached the error for reference.

  • Spawn a java process using runtime.exec() method

    Hi,
    This is my first post in this forum. I have a small problem. I am trying to spawn a java process using Runtime.getRuntime().exec() method in Solaris. However, there is no result in this check the follwoing program.
    /* Program Starts here */
    import java.io.*;
    public class Test {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    String cmd[] = {"java", "-version"};
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    try{
    Process proc = runtime.exec(cmd);
    }catch(Exception ioException){
    ioException.printStackTrace();
    /* Program ends here */
    There is neither any exception nor any result.
    The result I am expecting is it should print the following:
    java version "1.4.0"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0-b92)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0-b92, mixed mode)
    Please help me out in this regard
    Thanks in advance
    Chotu.

    Yes your right. It is proc.getInputStream() or proc.getErrorStream(). That is what I get for trying to use my memory instead of looking it up. Though hopefully the OP would have seen the return type of the other methods and figured it out.

  • Increasing memory used by java process when calling Runtime.exec()

    Hi everyone!
    I'm running a servlet Oracle iAS 9i, Jserv. It receives an image posted by a user and does a System.exec() which performs a call to convert (an image processing utility included in ImageMagick).
    After a few hours, java process start taking more and more RAM, until it crashes with an error like this:
    Memory: 5394008 free of 134217728 total. (I log this myself)
    Exception: java.io.IOException: Not enough space
    java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec(), line -2.
    java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(), line 54.
    java.lang.Runtime.execInternal(), line -2.
    java.lang.Runtime.exec(), line 553.
    ImageProcessor.convert(), line 235.
    ImageProcessor.createItemPics(), line 124.
    Uploader.doPost(), line 69.
    As you can see, this is not an OutOfMemoryError, but something else in connection with O/S.
    This is not related to hard disk space, since there is a lot of free space in every filesystems
    After restarting the webserver, everything goes back to normal and start increasing RAM again.
    Is there anything I can do? Any help will be gratly appreciated... Thanks!!!
    Dani.-

    Have you had any solutions to this pal?
    I am also suffering. I tried closing the processes by:
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = runtime.exec("/opt/sta_rpms.sh " + sFileName);
    proc.waitFor();
    proc.getInputStream().close();
    proc.getOutputStream().close();
    proc.getErrorStream().close();
    proc.destroy();
    proc = null;
    but still after like a day...Though our codes are not alike, it sounds like the same reason.
    Cheers!

  • Get process-ID of particular java process?

    I have created a startup script for air-video-server which happens to be a java application.
    The problem I'm facing now is that I can't identify the process ID of the particular java process using pidof.
    ps aux | grep AirVideo shows:
    user 4180 7.0 0.3 2309364 31288 pts/0 Sl 12:51 0:00 java -jar AirVideoServerLinux.jar
    Here's the line I'm using right now:
    PID=`pidof -o %PPID java`
    but this obviously lists the process IDs of all running java processes, not just air-video-server.
    PID=`pidof -o %PPID ava -jar AirVideoServerLinux.jar`
    doesn't match anything at all.

    pgrep(1) might help you

  • Server Socket Leaks on stopping Java Processes

    I have a strange problem on Windows 2000 Advanced Server with JDK1.5.10. Our application runs on a Tomcat 5.5.12 and is opening 2 server sockets along with Tomcat's own 8080 port. Also we deployed a stand alone application that also opens a server socket. Whenever we stop Tomcat service or our Application service (Windows services) these server sockets are not getting closed. If we use "netstat" to check if any sockets are still open it is NOT showing any sockets.
    But when we use "netstat -a" command it is showing entries like
    TCP    10.40.1.162:8080    10.40.1.162:0  LISTENING
    TCP    10.40.1.162:22222    10.40.1.162:0  LISTENING
    TCP    10.40.1.162:33334    10.40.1.162:0  LISTENINGHere 8080 (tomcat), 22222, 33334 are the ports on which the server sockets are opened earlier. We check in Task Manager but there is no java process running. If we try to restart the same java process it is throwing JVM_Bind exception. If we reboot the box the we are able to restart the services. Similar behaviour we observed sometimes on Linux also. I guess some settings in the OS we need to tweak to fix this issue. Can somebody please help me what are those settings for Windows and Linux platforms which reclaims unused server sockets faster??

    The state is LISTENING not TIME_WAIT. There is a cleanly closure of sockets provided in the code. It happens to Tomcat's own ports also. If you telnet to these sockets from another box, it is connecting and staying instead of "Connection Failed" error. But in Task Manager or "Services.msc" Console no service or process running! One more observation is that there is heavy load of threads and a huge number of clients socktets were interacting with these sockets just before shutdown.

    Hello Sonia,
    Can you ask your network team to monitor the traffic between primary and virtual host when you try to start java i.e STARTING_APP as it tries for 20mins and stopped.
    I had the similar issue but with App server.Its almost the similar condition.Our network team managed to open some ports and removed the firewall.
    After that issue got resolved..
    Hope it helps

  • Starting New process (continous) from another java process

    Hi,
    I am running into a trouble in starting a new java process (continous process it is like daemon process ) from another java process.
    Eg;
    Caller.java runs on one JVM instance, from this Caller.java i need to start a daemon java process ConnectionManager.java (My caller.java should have to know whether ConnectionManager was successfully started as a seperate java process or not)
    Also Caller.java has to stop ConnectionManager.java(which is running as seperate process)
    Any help would be appeciated.
    Thank you very much.

    First of all the design is unusual. Your issue is basically intercommunication between two processes written in java. There are various ways to do that:
    1. Use Persistent system(File/Database) : Easiest but have external dependency.
    2. Use RPC calls both JVM,s little bit complex.
    3. Run new JVM in debug mode and connect on bootstrap port.
    4. Communicate using Sockets.
    Whatever suits you...

  • Invocation of weblogic.jspc within a java process

              We have created a Java program to support our build process to pre-compile all of
              our JSPs. Things work fine as long as we exec a process each time we inovke weblogic.jspc
              (java weblogic.jspc -d...etc). Is it possible to invoke the main method of weblogic.jspc
              and pass it an option that will keep it from exiting when it completes its work?
              The problem we have is that we want to recursively call the main method but it exits
              the external java process each time it is called.
              TIA
              Brian

    Oh, Marc and I had a little offline conversation. We decided that the 5.1
              jspc does NOT honor the -noexit option. 6.0 should be fine.
              You might be able to accomplish the same task in a script, simply calling
              jspc multiple times.

  • Running Java process in Back ground

    We have a script that starts a Java process in Background. But still if I try to exit from the 'Console', it's not allowing me to do so, and if I forcibly kill the console, it's killing my Java process. My question is, how can I make my java process to run completely in background? Secondly, will the JVM have any references to the console through which it is being called. Please help me.

    Hi Sastry66,
    If your application is going to use stdout/stderr, then there may be a problem. Try to redirect stdout/stderr using shell redirections when starting your java program. You may also want to try using exec java <class-file> to start the process.
