I keep getting a message that I MUST! make a critical update to Java script--Version 6, update 21. The only way I can get out of it is by foreced quit. Is this legitimate?

Post a screenshot, & confirm that Software Update isn't showing any new updates.
You should also typically Un-check Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow Java unless you're on a trusted site that requires it.

Javascript can be left on, but Java (which is something very different) should generally be turned off.

Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.

Internet explorer allows me to open certain information/tabs which are somehow connected to java script but Firefox won't. This just started happening a few days agoyet my javca script is enabled. what is the problem/fix. I'm a novice with computers

I am not sophisticated at understanding computer language. What I know is that 3 things have happened in the last 2 weeks.
1.My yahoo account which I go to from Mozilla firefox 4.0.1 now requires me to click on a link that says it disables updates. Then my homepage seems to be ok/normal except:
2.One of the email links tries to open a site called Ok Cupid and that site is really distorted and unreadable
3. another website www.texastrails.org has a tab called 'docs' which can be reached from "member portal". There should be documents in Word and adobe reader on the left side of the screen which can be opened normally. These do not exist now and the texas trails webmaster says it has to do with Java Script. (it does open in Internet Explorer)
Why would these two sites open in IE but not firefox?
Note that I went to "My Computer" and found I have environment 5.0 Java6 update 24 and J2SE Runtime environment 5.0update 6 on different lines. I have no clue what these mean:-)
I also click on Firefox "tools" and see that java is checked/enabled.

This is not an answer. I have the same problem, what gives? None of the "solutions" have worked. The only thing left I haven't tried is resetting my IP an disabling my routers firewall, which is dangerous. Guess I might just keep on using IE instead, sure it's annoying, but hey it works.

On 7/10/2012, my desktop machine got hit by a slew of Virus and Trojans which even though removed, they are impacting the use of my computer. Information below.
First 7.10/2012 Trojan win32/Tibs.IT Severe Threat detected by Microsoft security essentials and Quarantined
Second 7/11/2012 0332 Trojan Win32/Tibs.It Severe Threat ditto ditto ditto and Quarantined
Third 7/15/2012 ExploitJava/CVE-2012-0507.CG SEVERE THREAT AND QUARANTINED BY MSE.
Fourth 7/15/2012 Exploit:Java/CVE-2012-1723.F SEVERE THREAT AND QUARANTINED MY MSE.
Since I have run Avast, it has not picked up on any of these in my system, but the damage seems to be done and wonder how I can reverse it? If I were to do a system restore before any of this ever happened would I be able to fix my machine myself. I know that the registry has been corrupted and that Microsoft has an "autoruns" program that they charge 100 bucks to run. Do you know of any place where I could obtain a similar program so that I can do this myself. I do know that in "autoruns" the YELLOW registry items need to be deleted. That being said can you help me please? I don't want to have to go through reformatting everything and starting all over :(. Days it takes and I end up losing a lot of stuff in the process. Thank you.

Can anyone help me with this? This trojan is in my email and programs and causing havoc everywhere. So far, I see how it works by disabling the main sections of the computer that are need to be scanned to get rid of it. How can I fix this?

Java Script error after updating to 9.0.1

This one is a bit different from the others posted. My error is "Exc in ev handl: TypeError:brw is undefined. My home pages won't load, much of the Firefox menu isn't working, some toolbar buttons don't work, the url doesn't update, etc.
Restarting in safe mode with add-ons disabled solves the problem. But how do I figure out which add-on is the culprit? If I start Firefox normally with the error, I can't get to the add-ons at all. If I run in safe mode, the add-on screen doesn't let you re-enable them one at a time.
Ideas?

I do restart using help-restart with add-ons disabled. (I'm on ver. 9.0.1) When it's finished, all add-ons *are* disabled. I then go to the add-on screen. At the top is a banner message, "All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode."
Some of the add-ons have "disable" buttons next to them. Pushing them merely switches the text in the button to "enable." Pushing again merely switches the text in the button to "disable." The title of each add-on never budges from "disabled." The banner message also remains unchanged.
So I cannot enable any of the add-ons while in safe mode.

Java SDK version 5 update 5 incompatible with J2ME WTK1.0.4_02? Help!

Total newb here, and frustrated beyond measure at my own ignorance. I'm trying to write some basic java apps for a cellphone.
I have downloaded the latest Java SDK from Sun, and the Wireless Development Toolkit.
Sadly, following the instructions to the letter, the demos all fail to compile with an error
javac: target release 1.1 conflicts with default source release 1.5I've spent the last three hours combing this forum and the web for a solution and I'm stumped. The best advice I've found is to download the 1.4.2 SDK (but that doesn't appear to be available any more... anyone?) or to some command line arguments like -source or -target. Problem there is that the WTK doesn't seem to provide the option of passing arguments to the compiler.
Could somebody please put me out of my misery and advise me what the best way past problem is?

Got a Lenovo G50-70 computer running windows 8.1. Got a pop up says Adobe Air needs to be updated asks when do you want to update. Is this legitimate? I'm worried about viruses, worms. thanks.

The popup says An Adobe AIR update is ready to be installed.
I'm not sure it's really a message from Adobe.
I may not have any need to use AIR if it was installed on my computer by Lenovo or Windows 8.1.
My last computer had a popup that was, I think, a worm which told me I needed to update Flash Player Pro.
So, I'm nervous now about popup messages. I wish all legitimate programs could have options to Automatically install updates.
Can someone tell me if the popup sounds legitimate? Some programs give you a third option of No Thanks but this one just has a box to click for Update Now and a box for Update Later.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just like Windows Update, Adobe AIR needs to update itself periodically. Just click Update Now to update to the latest version.

Java platform and Java Deployment should be updated but there is no other version, always the warning to update but thats not possible

Java Platform 7u9 and Java Deployment Kit plug-ins are yellow and asked to be updated.
The problem is that there is no other version than I have already installed.
Even if I try to instal this latest version again I've get the message that I already have the latest version.
The same problem was with Flashplayer where I installed the latest version but three days Firefox asked to update the plugin.
The last one is now ok but Java Platform and Java Deployment Kit is hopeless.
Why it ask for an update if there is none?
What should or can I do? I always be careful and patch my pc if necesserry.
All my friends who are working with Firefox have the same problem.

There is still an issue for me. When i check to see if add-ons are up to date it identifies "Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U9" as out-of-date and gives me an orange "Update" action. When i hit this it takes me to the Java website giving me "Recommended Version 7 Update 9". This is the one i've already got so i cannot get rid of the orange Update action buttons.
Furthermore, if i try the link earlier in this thread to test to see which version of Java i should be using it says "Congratulations! You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 9)" so i'm not sure what this talk of version 7.10 is about?

I have downloaded the latest Java (JRE) and Java is checked enabled as well as JavaScipt and Web plug-ins are enabled.
I thought I would download once again from your link - MacOSX jre7u6 Macosx-x64 dmg.
On opening the package to install was advised that a higher version of the JRE is already installed on the system.
Still unable to open my Labs software as the advice is still to download the latest Java.
Checking the net again found another Java option for Mac Lion - so I downloaded and installed the version OS X2012 -006.
Still no joy, as my photo Lab software keeps givng me the same message that i to open " RGB Digital Direct" I need to download the Java Runtime Environment for Web Start Application.
I then went back into Java Website and it gave an option to detect whether I have the correct Java Software - report came back - Verified Java Version - " Congratulations You have the recommended Java installed ( Version 7 Update 9)"

Java JDK versions on Mac OS Lion

I was just looking at the JDK on my Mac with Mac OS X 10.7.3 and it looks like I have different versions of the JDK around.
That's what I have
/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_29-b11-402.jdk
/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_31-b04-411.jdk
/System/Library/java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk.
Why is that messed up ?
I checked to what I'm pointing and I get that
/usr/bin/java points at /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current/Commands/java
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current points at /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A
Is that ok ? How can I check that I'm really using the most recent version of JDK, in this case /1.6.0_31-b04-411.jdk ? Should I remove redundant JDKs, and if yes what and how ?

According to JavaTester.org I have version 1.6.0_29 which is confirmed by my Java Preferences Panel.
The only 2 versions listed in the panel are 1.6.0_29 (64-bit) and 1.6.0_29 (32-bit)
The webplugin check from firefox states that 'Java Applet Plug-in" is not up to date.
Firefox Add-on Tab says I have 'Java Applet Plug-in' version 14.0.3
Oracle.com says the latest version of Java is Version 7 Update 3
Java.com says the latest version of Java is Version 6 Update 31
Furthermore Java.com says updates will be automatically download through 'Apple Software Update' but it shows no sign of an update.

Java JDK Versions?

I am installing 11g XE, Weblogic, Forms & Reports, and SQLDesigner for a class and I don't understand why it keep whining about needing obsolete JDK versions. We all know there was a big uproar over Java security issues over the past few years so I don't understand why this software would be complaining when I try to tell it to use the current JDK version. Isn't Java JDK always written to be backward compatible? What about the real installations of this software? Or is the JDK version irrelevant if the JRE is up to date?

SAP releases support for rich Web Browser applications in Web Dynpro (Flash).
The use of the Web Browser as FrontEnd in Business transactions will grow in the future.
Every week we read of new exploits in applications that enriches the Web Browsers.
It could be Java Script, Flash or ActiveX. Like this for example:

Captivate 8: How to add a button onto a question slide to invoke some java script?

I have some question slides where the user has to guess an item on a picture. Because the picture is very small, I want to add a zoom button which calls a function in my LMS to popup the picture in a bigger window. I could not find a way to add a button where I can call java script, so I tried to solve this by using a smart shape with option "use as button" set and adding the java script action. This works fine for the popup but now the submit button on the slide no longer works. Clicking the submit button just disables the answers and stays on the current slide even if I did not click onto the shape button previously. How can I achieve my goal to display a bigger picture of an image on my slide on the users request?
I also tried the "ImageView" widget, but this is not a practicable solution.

I think I found the solution: In the "Timing" tab for the shape there is an option "Pause After" which was set to 1,5 seconds. I cleared this options and now the submit button is working again.
