Java server code

Hello,
I am writing some software that will run on a server but its not going to be for processing or generating web pages or content. It is mostly going to be crunching database data. Is there a need for me to use a jsp server like tomcat or jboss?
I dont really know much about jsp but was under the impression it was for making web applications and rich pages. Is this correct?

  • Use Window's scriptcontrol eval to parse JScript response from Java Server

    I've been asked to create a program to send and receive data to our Java Server. I've never worked with Java or even HTML before but there is some working code written in VB that I've been working from to get me started. I have successfully made connection to the server using IWinHttpRequest which returns a parse-able string. In the VB code they used MSScriptControl.IScriptControl to parse the returned string into an object that they could query for different parameters like 'returnStatus' and 'returnType'. This seems like a great advantage over parsing the string in LabVIEW. However, the return of this functions is a variant that seems to be just an 'object'. I am not very familiar with LVOOP or OOP in general and so I have no idea what to do with this 'object'. I've tried creating a LVObject that contained a control for all the parameters in the return string, then take the variant from the scriptcontrol and Type Set it as my LVObject and remove the parameters through the Object's cluster. But that didn't seem to work. I would like to know if this possible or should I give up and just go with the long yet sure way.
    I am using LabVIEW 8.5.1 on an XP machine. I think this would be easier if I had 8.6 or 2009 but alas I don't.
    Attached is my trial VI

    Peter, Thanks for your reply. The problem is I am not creating the object, Window's ScriptControl 'eval' function (an ActiveX Invoke Node) is returning the object as a variant. I understand the general concepts of OOP which is why I think I know what the object is 'composed' of but I don't know how to get the individual parts of the object into a form I can work with within LabVIEW. Since I do think I know what data is in the object, I tried to type case the variant as a LV Object who's cluster contained a control for each piece of data with the label of the control being the name of a part of the object but it didn't seem to work.
    For example, if the string returned from WinHttpRequest was {"returnType":"True","returnStatus":"StringArray"} and I sent this throught the 'eval' function, the returned object would have 2 parameter: a string labeled "returnType" having a value of "True" and another string labeled "returnStatus" having a value of "StringArray". I tried creating a LV Object that had two string controls labled "returnType" and "returnStatus" in it's cluster. I then created a constant of this LV Object and type cast the variant using this constant then tried to read one of the strings within the LV Object. The result was the default value of an empty string.
    I think this should be the way to accomplish my goal but either I'm wrong or there is some nuance that I am missing.
    Thanks for any insight provided.

  • Pls help   how to check the condition in java server faces.....???

    Hi All
    I have strucked with code pls help....
    How can i check the codition in java server faces.....?
    like in my Application when user provides the in put like some state name in the next page i have to display some url for that state .......if he provide some other state name it will be different url .....pls help me how can i do that,,,,,,???
    thanks in advance..

    There are certainly ways to do that. E.g. using the rendered attribute, using conditional statements in EL, using a specialized getter for that (lazily loaded if necessary), etcetera. But your functional requirement is unclear, so I can't go in detail with that.
    In the future, please try to write normal English sentences. Don't write like SMS talk and save the periods and commas. The more effort you put in your question, the more chance you will be taken for serious and the more effort others will post in their answers.
    Also, in the future, JSF related questions should be posted in the JSF forum.

    Following is the statement in JSP Code
    <input name="<%=ParamName%>" type="text" value="" size="8">
                                  <a href = "javascript:show_calendar('parameterInputForm.<%=ParamName%>');"><img src="images/toolbar/calendar.gif" border=0 alt="Click to see calendar" align="abmiddle"></a>
    Could any kind souls please help me in it.
    Thank you very much, your help is deeply appreciated
    Luo_Sha_Zong_Zu

    Hi
    First, dont put msg with subjects like "Java Server Page". Put msg with subject showing the problem, like "unreachable statement - out.print("\r\n\t\t\t uses or override a deprecated API"
    Your problem is with the value of the var "ParamName". It has something with "return" and "tab". Check it

  • Exception using fault message in java server proxy.

    Hi All,
    I am trying to use Fault message inside my server proxy code in Asynchronous java server proxy. I am referring the below mentioned link :
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d06315a6-e66e-2910-039c-ba8bbbd23702?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
    I successfully deployed my SDA file but while running the scenario(http-XI-ftp in PI7.11) i am getting the folowing exception under MDT:
    com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: Error processing inbound message. Exception: Cannot locate proxy bean ServerProxyFTTest3.
    I am using the following library refernces under application-j2ee-engine.xml file:  com.sap.aii.af.sdk.lib, com.sap.aii.proxy.svc, com.sap.xi.util.misc,com.sap.guid,com.sap.exception all of type "weak".
    I have checked almost all the forums related to fault messages in asynchronous java server proxy but couldn't find much help.
    Request you all to help me.
    Thanks
    Amit

    Hi Rajesh,
    I am deploying my SDA file on Non Central Adapter Engine.
    I have also registered my interface using:
    http://ISVSAPPISB:51000/ProxyServer/register?ns=http://infosys.com/poc&interface=SI_Proxy_IA&bean=localejbs/ServerProxyFTTest3&method=sIProxyIA
    But still i ma getting the same exception.
    Hi Gabriel,
    I implemented my scenario using the same. But in addittion to the librarry referneces mentioned over there i have added one more refrence in it "com.sap.exception"  of type "weak". My structure is like this:

  • How do I set a breakpoint in a Java Server page (.jsp)?

    I have set up an application for remote debugging and am able to connect to it from JDeveloper. When the code execution comes to breakpoints that I have set in java (.java) files they work and the application stops so I can debug etc.
    This also applies to breakpoints set in java code that is called from Java Server pages.
    However if I set breakpoints directly in a java server page whether it is in html code or in java code (such as scriplets) the execution does not stop and the breakpoints are ignored.
    Why? Is there some extra thing I have to do? I have tried in Project Properties/Run/Debug/Profile/Edit/Launch Settings to choose server as Virtual Machine for instance but that does not change anything.
    Comment. I do not know if this is of interest but I am going to add some java server pages to an application and they are defined in a directory like this:
    . . . src\org\yawlfoundation\yawl\resourcing\jsf\jsp
    but when the tomcat deploys the .war file they end up here:
    . . . apache-tomcat-6.0.18\webapps\resourceService
    As I can find no package declaration in a .jsp file this should not matter but I mention it anyway.

    Hi user10477024,
    thanks for explaining your background on what you are trying to do and I do understand the approach you are taking. Unlike user10689900's completely random post.
    I've tried to convey why there is no support for JSP debugging in JDev, but again the main reason is that the current frameworks do not code Java directly into a JSP. The JSP is purely used to position the components on the page aiding visual design and real Java classes in tag libs do the rest.
    So the evolution has been:
    Servlets (Java classes writing HTML logic and intermingling presentation and business logic)
    JSP 1.0 JSP (HTML looking) files where you can add scriptlets enclosed in <% ... %> <- you are here
    JSP 1.1 Introduction of Tags and Tag libraries, tag libraries are true java classes and the JSP controls layout and simpler more elegant design.
    Really JSP 1.1 is all about building reusable components together in tag libraries that can be reused across pages and improving design by not mixing presentation and business logic code together.
    If I had inherited something as you have, my advice (if you can) would be to code up some tag libraries because it would be a good learning experience and would be very helpful for moving to more advanced frameworks like JSF.

  • Java server faces submit button

    i'm running a java server faces example in tomcat.In that example i'm having a text field and a submit button, both are visible, but when i run the same example in JBoss app server the submit button is not visible ........whats the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ajay

    Thanks!
    i'm using jwsdp-1.2. Actually there is no need to
    configure anything in jwsdp-1.2. But running example
    out of jwsdp-1.2 may need some configuration that i
    don't know....
    You're correct that some extra steps are needed to run elsewhere than JWSDP 1.2:
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/javaserverfaces/docs/Deployment_Guide.html
    however, it's very difficult to determine what might be wrong without seeing your JSP source code and associated Java classes, plus any error messages that might be getting written to the log files.

  • Java Server/Client Applicaton - problem with sending data back

    Hello!
    I'm trying to write a small server/client chat application in Java. It's server with availability to accept connections from many clients and it's app just for fun... However, I've come up against a huge problem: everything what clients send, arrives to server (I'm sure about that because it is displayed on the Server Application screen) and then server should send it back to all clients but it doesn't work. I have no faintest idea what causes this problem. Maybe you can help me?

    }By the way, this app is mainly written in English language (text that appears on the screen) however in functions I used Polish language (for example: BLAD - it means ERROR in English). Sorry for that :)

    Yeap, I will change those exceptions later, thanks for advice.
    You asked what's going on with it: both applications start with no errors, but when I write something in client side it should be sent to the server and then forwarded to all connected clients but it stops somewhere. However, I added a one line to the server code
    line = in.readUTF();
    System.out.println(line);
    sendToAll(line); and after it reads message from client (no matter which one) it shows that message on the server side screen, then it should send this message to all clients but it doesn't work in this moment. What's confusing: no errors occurs, so it's rather a mistake in my code, but where?

  • UDP DatagramPacket sent between C (client) and Java (server)

    Hi,
    I have a problem sending a struct from C to Java UDP server.
    In the C (client) program, the struct is defined as
    typedef strurct dataType_s {
    char name[52];
    char add[52];
    long x;
    long y;
    } dataType;
    dataType data;
    strcpy(data.name, "sun");
    strcpy(data.add, "com");
    data.x = 100;
    data.y = 50;
    sendto(sock, (struct dataType*)&dataType, sizeof(dataType), (struct sockaddr*)&dest, sizeof(dest))
    In the Java server side, I have the following code.
    byte[] buffer = new Byte[1024];
    DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buffer, 1024);
    udpSock.receive(buffer);
    byte[] data = buffer.getData();
    String name = new String(data, 0, 52);
    String add = new String(data, 52, 52);
    String _xx = new String(data, 104, 4);
    String _yy = new String(data, 108, 4);
    Byte x = new Byte(xx.getBytes());
    long x = _x.longValue();
    Byte y = new Byte(yy.getBytes());
    long y = _y.longValue();
    I am having problem to read the contents of x and y above. The string name and add received by the server
    are correct. However, I receive garbage value
    for x (long) and y (long). In fact, I get expection
    that I cannot create Byte x and Byte y as shown
    above. Any idea of how to send a mixture of types
    from C/C++ to Java server?
    Thanks a lot.
    Kelvin ([email protected])

    sendto(sock, (struct dataType*)&dataType,
    sizeof(dataType), (struct sockaddr*)&dest,
    sizeof(dest))You have to check the alignment of your structs. You can't be sure that a long takes up four bytes. It can very well be 8 bytes or something else depending on your settings at compilation.
    udpSock.receive(buffer);
    byte[] data = buffer.getData();I suppose this is a typo, but of course you should use packet not buffer here.
    >
    Byte x = new Byte(xx.getBytes());
    long x = _x.longValue();
    Byte y = new Byte(yy.getBytes());
    long y = _y.longValue();
    in my opinion its easier to use a DataInputStream instead:
    DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(data));
    int y = in.readInt();
    Notice that a long in Java is 8 bytes. A C long corresponds to a Java int.

  • Integration of PL/SQL and JSP (Java Server Pages)

    I need to match a web application developed with PL/SQL with another developed in JSP (Java Server Pages) the problem is that the two apps interact with the same databese, an share de same users, I need to know how to get the user and password loged into pl/sql when the user want to use same of de .jsp pages running on another application server?

    Hi Michael Vstling,
    Did you try the java classes library (SDOAPI) that can be downloaded from OTN?
    It may provide you with a better alternative when manipulating geometries in the Java space. There is an adapter in SDOAPI which can convert a JDBC STRUCT object into Java Geometry object defined in SDOAPI, and vice versa.
    There are at least two ways in mixing PL/SQL and Java. The first one, as you mentioned, is to define your custom function in terms of PL/SQL and call it from within your Java program. With SDOAPI, you have the second option, which is to define your own functions in Java using SDOAPI and deploy them as Java stored procedures in db. You can then call them from within your PL/SQL code. In either way performance depends on a lot of things and generally it requires a "try and improve" approach.
    About JPublisher and sdo_ordinate_array it may not be a spatial related problem. Did you try search the Java-related forums first?
