Java Source in JDeveloper

Hi,
We are on 10g and have few Java Stored Procedures in the database.
I wanted to find a way to debug this code and installed JDeveloper because I didn't know any other way to debug java stored procedures in the database.
But the JDeveloper doesn't let me open the Java Source. It does list those objects under Java Source and that's about it.
Any help out there??
Thanks,

Hello,
Sorry, I seem to have been wrong.... I've never debuged my java stored procs on the server. I found

  • How to edit Java source code of a generated Web Service?

I generated a Jax RPC (1.4) Web Service using the JDev Wizard . Everything works fine. But now I need to make some changes in the business logic contained in the source code. The problem is there is no easy way to get to the source code - JDeveloper shows the web service but right clicking on it only lets me go to the WSDL or Mapping file - not the Java source.
So - how do I get to the source.
I could do a file -> open and open up the java file and edit it - but this seems like a round about way . Why doesn't JDev let me go back to the Source code easily?
It does provide a Regeneate from Source option but there is no way (as far as I could tell) to actually jump back into the source code after I've generated the Web Service.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
just to confirm that Jan is ight. If you seect the generated WSDL icon, which is shown in the Application Navigator, open the Structure Window and you'll see all teh generated interfaces and sourcefiles, as well as your WebService file.
Alternatively you can use teh System navigator which will show all files in one view (ctrl+shift+N)

  • Is it possible to add other java packages to JDeveloper?

I am running JDeveloper 9.0.3 and Java SDK 1.4.2.
I have downloaded the Java Web Services Development Pack (JWSDP) from Sun, and some of the java source files contain import statements for packages that do not exist in my SDK. For example
    import javax.xml.soap.*
These packages are contained within jar files that come with the JWSDP install. Is there anyway to import these packages into JDeveloper so that it can compile the source files?
    Thanks
    Paul

Create a new library which will the jar files from JWSDP and add the library to the project.
    Project | Project properties
    Select Libraries
    Click New
Enter library name (something like JWSDP)
In the classpath add the jar files
    CLick ok
Add the new library to selected list

  • Generate java source cod/ contect menu

I am new to JDeveloper, so please excuse the ignorance. I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3.10.35 and UML modelers 9.0.3.9.4. I am going through the JDeveloper tutorial( Modeling Java Classes tutorial). I design a Class model and i try to generate java source code for some of the java interfaces in the design. The tutorial sates: Choose Generate|Java from the contect menu.
Any idea where is this mysterious conext menu? There is a generate option under model but every thing is grayed out...Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks Lisa. The problem really was with the poor instructions provided and a tired mind. There is no "context menu" ala right click on something BTW, right clicking on the main design page does not do any thing and right clicking a class only gives the properties. Anyway, what was meant, i think is to select Java from the main menu "model" and then select Generate/Java. Now since the code is "automatically generated", the Java option was grayed out and that threw me off.
To descover all this i re-did the whole tutorial with only one class and viola, the code was there.

  • Cannot find Java Source Objects

How do I view the java source code in my own account. I dont see it anywhere in the object tree? However, when I do use the report tool and seach the source I can view it.
Shouldn't I be able to see java code just like I can see PL/SQL code... eh? bug? operator error? :)
    Thanks..

Uh, but if I have 20 or 30 Java objects in my account I would at least like to see them?
I just saw this statement on the SQL Developer Statement of Direction page.
    JDeveloper and SQL Developer
The plan is to incorporate the functionality in SQL Developer into a future release of JDeveloper.
Seems as though Oracle should have just added this 'SQL Developer" functionality to JDeveloper to begin with and not even had this separate "SQL Developer" tool. I always thought JDeveloper lacked some these SQL Developer features anyway. Doesnt JDeveloper allow me to edit PL/SQL? Yes. Whats the problem with SQL Developer allowing me to edit Java? We have a lot of java and plsql in our schemas and having separate tools doesnt really make sense to me? And I hate to say it but other tools like SQL Developer let me view and edit my java objects. This is not going to go over well here at all and may prevent migration away form other SQL Developer like tools. Its almost like SQL Developer is half a tool then since I can only see "most" of my DB objects?
One of the nice things about SQL Developer is that it is light weight and easy to learn as compared to JDeveloper. IMHO...
Is this true or are Java objects being added in 1.1 to the tree? Now I'm bummed. Tell me it isnt so. :)

  • Java source and class locked, unable to drop or replace

Because Oracle 9i does not come with an FTP implementation, I installed the apache.commons.net package into the database, and implemented static java wrappers to allow me to publish the code.
After thoroughly testing the code under JDeveloper, I deployed the code to the database.
The code hung, establising a lock on one or more classes. Besides not knowing how to debug and java packages inside the Oracle database (eg, why did the code fail in the first place?), I have no idea how to unlock the source or class of my java objects.
How does one find what process is locking the java source and/oir class?

    Try something like:
    select s.username, pr.pid, pr.spid from
    x$kglpn p, x$kglob o, v$process pr, v$session s
    where p.kglpnhdl = o.kglhdadr
    and pr.addr = s.paddr
    and p.kglpnuse = s.saddr
    and o.kglnaobj = dbms_java.shortname('fully/qualified/ClassName');

  • Any way to search for casts in java source code?

Anyone know of a decent way to search your java source files to find all the casts?
I ended up doing a simple text search for
" = ("(quote marks not included) which works for my code because I am strict about writing my casts with spaces like
String s = (String) iterator.next();Unfortunately, the above search has all kinds of problems with both false positives and negatives. It picks up lots of irrelevant lines like
int index = (number > 0) ? 0 : 1;as well as misses casts that appear nested inside expressions like
((String) iter.next()).charAt(...)I suppose that one could do a regular expression search for any pair of open and close parens which bound non-blank text, but that would pick up even more non-cast expressions in typical java code.
I think that the only way to properly do this is to have a tool which understands java syntax.
Anyone know of an IDE which will do this? Does IntelliJ or Netbeans support this kind of search?
In case you are wondering why I am interested in this, it is because I am refactoring some code to fully use generics, and searching for casts is one source of identifying candidates for genericity.

  • Getting all the members (variables, methods AND method bodies) of a java source file

For a project I want to programmatically get access to the members of java source file (member variables, methods etc) as well as to the source code of those members. My question is what is the best method for this? So far I have found the following methods:
Use AST's provided by the Java Source API and Java Tree API, as discussed in the following posts:
    http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2008/04/10/source-code-analysis-using-java-6-compiler-apis.html
    http://weblogs.java.net/blog/timboudreau/archive/2008/02/see_java_code_t.html
    http://netbeans.dzone.com/announcements/new-class-visualization-module
This has the disadvantage that the classes actually have to be compilable. When I look at the Netbeans Navigator view however, it provides me with a nicely formatted UI list, regardless of the "compilable" state of the class.
Thus I started looking at how to do this... The answer appears to be through the use of tools such as JavaCC: https://javacc.dev.java.net/
    ANTLR: http://www.antlr.org/
which are lexers and parsers of source code. However, since the Navigator panel already does this, couldn't I use part of this code to get me the list of variables and methods in a source file? Does the Navigator API help in this regard?
Another route seems to be through tools such as
    BeautyJ: http://beautyj.berlios.de/
which run on top of JavaCC if I am correct, and which has the ability to provide a clean view on your java code (or an XML view). However, BeautyJ does not seem to be too actively developed, and is only j2se1.4 compatible.
I hope someone can shed a light on the best way to go about what I want to achieve. Somebody already doing this?
(I crossposted on the Netbeans forums too, hope this is OK...)

I'm currently developing a LaTeX editor(MDI) and I do the same thing, but I don't know what exactly do you need.

  • How can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans?

I'm sure this simple and a pretty common operation but how can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans? Right now I keep cut, coping and pasting the same source file between multiple projects to re-use the same code. But I could I make this source file a library file or something like that so that I could access it from any project. I assume this would be a generic operation but I mentioned NetBeans for clarity. Thanks.

If anyone wants to be specific about NetBeans I welcome that too.

    Create a class library.
Write your code, compile it to .class files, put those class files in a .jar file and include the jar file in the classpath whenever you want to compile a project against it.

  • How to read the Java source code (in Netbeans)

    I use OS X10.5.5, NetBeans 6.1 and JSE 6 on a 64 bit mac.
When I downloaded NB6.1 it had JSE 5 as it's default (and only) java platform. I ran Software Update to get Java 6 from Apple, used the Java Prefrences utitlity to set JSE6 as default. In NB I added the JDK6 platform, registered the JDK6 javadocs and noticed that I also have the option of registering the Java source code.
    I have three questions:
    1) How do I make JDK6 the default in NetBeans. The JDK5 keeps being default after I did the steps above and I don't see anywhere to change that.
    2) How do I read the Java 6 source code? I can see sun provides [source code| http://download.java.net/jdk6/] for their supported platforms. I dont see Apple doing the same for its JDK port. What would I need to do to get to read the java SE6 sources? or is it actually hiding somewhere in the /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home hierarchy?
    3) Where does the JVM look for the binary code to run when I make a call to, say java.util.ArrayList or any other library. In my naivety I would have assumed it would be a .class file somewhere in the java Home folder, but I don't see anything like it.
    thanks in advance,
    chris

This is taken from the help included with netbeans. In response to question 1.
By default, the IDE uses the version of the Java SE platform (JDK) with which the IDE runs as the default Java platform
for compilation, execution, and debugging. You can view your IDE's JDK version by choosing Help > About and clicking the
Detail tab. The JDK version is listed in the Java field.
You can run the IDE with a different JDK version by starting the IDE with the --jdkhome jdk-home-dir switch on the command line
or in your IDE-HOME/etc/netbeans.conf file. For more information, see IDE Startup Parameters.
In the IDE, you can register multiple Java platforms and attach Javadoc and source code to each platform. For example, if you
want to work with the new features introduced in JDK 5.0, you would either run the IDE on JDK 5.0 or register JDK 5.0 as a
platform and attach the source code and Javadoc to the platform.
In  , you can switch the target JDK in the Project Properties dialog box. In  , you have to set the target JDK in the Ant script itself,
then specify the source/binary format in the Project Properties dialog box.
To register a new Java platform:
Choose Tools > Java Platforms from the main window.
Click New Platform and select the directory that contains the Java platform. Java platform directories are marked with a
    in the file chooser.
Use the Sources and Javadoc tabs to attach Javadoc documentation and source code for debugging to the platform.
    Click Close.
To set the default Java platform for a standard project:
Right-click the project's root node in the Projects window and choose Properties.
In the Project Properties dialog box, select the Libraries node in the left pane.
Choose the desired Java platform in the Java Platform combo box.
Switching the target JDK for a standard project does the following:
Offers the new target JDK's classes for code completion.
If available, displays the target JDK's source code and Javadoc documentation.
Uses the target JDK's executables (javac and java) to compile and execute your application.
Compiles your source code against the target JDK's libraries.
If you want to register additional Java platforms with the IDE, you can do so by clicking the Manage Platforms button.
Then click the Add Platform button and navigate to the desired platform.
To set the target Java platform for a free-form project:
In your Ant script, set the target JDK as desired in the javac, java, and javadoc tasks.
Right-click the project's root node in the Projects window and choose Properties.
In the Sources panel, set the level of JDK you want your application to be run on in the Source/Binary Format combo box.
When you access Javadoc or source code for JDK classes, the IDE searches the Java platforms registered in the
Java Platform Manager for a platform with a matching version number. If no matching platform is found, the IDE's default platform is used instead.

    Hi,
Omitting -jarasresource is the first step.
You probably need to specify -recursivejars in cas there are jars in your jars.
Also use -genmissing option in case some classes are still missing in the jars files you've loaded.
