Java Studio Enterprise 7 for linux???

I have just returned from a half day Sun Developer Seminar where the latest studio enterprise was demonstrated and I was most impressed. I am currently an eclipse user and previously used IntelliJ but I could be converted to enterprise 7.
But... The DVD I was given with eval versions of the various tools doesn't have a linux version, and apparently it is not available for download either?
SInce I do all my development on a laptop running linux this has made evaluation of studio enterprise rather difficult.
Is a linux version available, if not when is it likely to be?
thanks.
brian wallis
P.S. This might be a FAQ but I couldn't find it in the forum.

Pity it is not generally available. I don't own a JDS product. I was just hoping to evaluate the linux version as a potential replacement for our multiple IDEs (eclipse, IntelliJ and Netbeans).
I have no wish to evaluate on windows with the hope that it would work OK on linux.
Hopefully sun will make a linux version available for eval in the near future.

  • Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 MACOSX !! WE NEED IT!!

    Hi Sun!
Are there any plans to release Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 for MacOSX?
It's a bit work ... and it runs on osx (Netbeans run's on osx).
There are many postings around asking for an osx version !

hi, did these step really work for you?
On my machine the installer does not recognize the correct Java Runtime and asks me to enter the path to the JDK.
I have the latest Version (1.5.0_05) installed, but whatever I tried, it just does not accept this Version. I chose the Path:
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/ and some Variations, like the bin-Dir. and the Home-dir inside 1.5.0, but nothing works.
And yes, I started the installler from the command-line using the 1.5.0 java.
    Any further suggestions?
Did the installer recognize the right Framework on your installations automatically, or where did you point it?
Help very much appreciated - thanks.

  • Open Forte for java project in Sun java studio enterprise

Hi Everyone, I am new to Java development. I have a java application developed in Forte for java 4 and I need to open and compile it in Sun java studio enterprise. Could anybody tell me how to do that? Thank you very much.

The recent versions of the IDE (starting with NetBeans 4.1 and JSE 8) are based on a more-robust project system that is ant based. Projects from Forte for Java 4, unfortunately, cannot be directly opened in JSE8, NB4.1 and later.
If you do have access to the original source code, pl. try the following in the latest version of JSE or NetBeans:
    - Create a fresh project in jse using File | New Project. (For a java standalone app, you would choose General | Java Application from the dialog).
    - Add the existing files to the empty project. You can do so by right-clicking on the project, selecting properties and adding the existing source directories under 'Source Packages' in 'Sources' category.
Or from the new project dialog, you could select 'General | Java Project with existing sources' option.

  • Keyboard settings problem Java Studio Enterprise 8.1 on OpenSUSE 10.2

I have of Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8.1 installed on OpenSUSE 10.2 x86-64 using KDE. I use Finnish keyboard, the same keyboard is used in Swedish, too.
For some reason I haven't been able to use the FI/SE keyboard layout with the IDE. The keyboard behaves like an US keyboard.
I have tried to use private properties of my project nbproject/private/private_fi_FI_EURO.properties but this doesn't help. I have tried to edit jstudio.conf with --locale fi:FI . It didn't help.

    - Do the demo programs that come with jdk run fine with the keyboard layout? For instance: <jdkdir>//demo/jfc/Stylepad
    - Setting the locale within ide would probably only work for the localization of strings within the ide itself.
For instance, from the following the FAQ on encoding:
    http://wiki.netbeans.org/wiki/view/FaqI18nFileEnc
If you use the UNIX/Linux platform, you can start the IDE with the UTF-8 locale.
Most modern UNIX/Linux platforms support UTF-8 locales.
For example, if you use Japanese,
    % export LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8
    % netbeans
... There is no way in Windows to change the locale at IDE startup. In other words, the locale should perhaps be set at the OS , JVM level and cannot be configured in netbeans.

  • Error while installing Java Studio Enterprise

    Hey folks,
I have downloaded SUN Java studio enterprise 90-day trial version (for windows). After starting installation, I got the install wizard. The three system requirements namely available disk space, Installed memory and Operating System patches have been checked successfully by the install wizard and the status is ok. • Can't get applet working in Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8

    Hi!
I'm just learning Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8, and I'm trying to develop and test my first applet within the IDE.
I have code from a Core Java book that creates a simple applet with buttons and a picture.
I want to test the applet using the IDE's applet viewer, and then test it through a browser.
I've followed the instructions I can find in the IDE, but keep getting an error... Class Not Found.
Does anyone have a simple applet that works within the IDE and instructions for creating and testing an applet within the IDE?
I know there's sample applet code, but I need to specifically learn how to develop and deploy it within the IDE.
    Thanks.

    Hi! Thanks for the reply!
Sorry for the delay in responding here... this is just a "free time" project for me while I"m at work.
Based on your comment, I've downloaded the "Sun Java Studio Creator 2" IDE, since that sounds like it might be more suited to simple things like applets.
I'll work with that and I'll post further replies to this thread if I have any questions.
    Thanks for your assistance!

  • Problems Installing Java Studio Enterprise 8.1 - Windows Vista

I am entirely new to the Java language and environment. I am trying to install the JSE 8.1. First I installed JDK 6.4 (jdk-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe), which seemed to go OK. Then I attempted to install the JSE (jstudio_ent81-ml-windows.exe).
First, it did not find a JRE and prompted me to specify, which I did (specified the java.exe within the JDK (Program Files/java/jdk1.6.0_04/bin). The installation continued for a while and then it tells me that "it cannot run the installer in graphical mode - check the DISPLAY environment variable". At this point is closes and that's the end of it. I see no trace of either the JDK nor the JSE in the Start/Programs folder.
Am I doing something wrong? Is Vista a non-starter?
    Thanks,
    Kevank

    Kevank,
Thank you for trying out Sun-sponsored Java developer tools. However in the case of Java Studio Enterprise (JSE) there are two issues here:
    1) JSE is not supported on the Windows Vista OS and probably will not run correctly even if it were installable, see http://developers.sun.com/jsenterprise/reference/docs/jse8_1/sjse_relnotes81.html and
    2) The latest Java developer tools technology is to be found in the free NetBeans 6.0 IDE at http://www.netbeans.org/ . It is strongly recommended, especially if you are a developer new to Java, that you start out using the NetBeans IDE, which is not only supported on Vista (see http://www.netbeans.org/community/releases/60/relnotes.html#system_requirements ), but also contains the Java Enterprise application development features found in JSE, see http://www.netbeans.org/features/ .
If you have any questions on this please feel free to let us know on the forum.

  • To setup Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8

    Hi,
First of all my WinXP is in Traditional Chinese (not English one or Simplified Chinese one). And when I'm setting up such below, it seems the setup wizard cannot properly show in traditional Chinese. Which version actually should I try instead?
Windows Platform - Sun Java[tm] Studio Enterprise 8 plus Sun Developer Network Standard - Welcome!
Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8, Multilanguage jstudio_ent8_dl-win.exe
It seems this download is for an update for that enterprise version. If I had not setup anything before within the machine, can I setup it? When I'm setting up that, it just keeps waiting and waiting and cannot proceed at all.

  • Reverse engineering in Java Studio Enterprise 8.1

I tried to do the reverse engineering in Java Studio Enterprise 8.1.
The Reverse Engineering process launches which I can tell from the output log,
but I didn't see any diagram generated. What could be the problem?
    Thanks!

to see if the relationships are in the model, try to expand the class and interface nodes and they should have something like the following. If these are absent, there might be something in the reverse engineering process that lost the relationships.
    - package1
    - class1
    - Relationships
    - Implementation
    + interface1
    - package2
    - interface1
    - Relationships
    - Implementation
    + class1
As for sequence diagram, not sure how you created it. If you just cdfs the classes, you should not see any message except for the lifelines that represent the classes. If you select an operation of a class to do cdfs or reverse engineer operation, the sequence diagram will be generated.

  • Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 Application Server

I'm trying to get the JSE8 Application Server to run as a service. I've read other forum articles and none of them really answered my question. So, I tried to implement the JSE8 server via the JavaServiceWrapper approach (and, I was successful). The only problem is that when I log on and then log off the computer running the application server, the application server stops.
So, I have several questions. One is, "why does the application server stop when it detects a user logoff, especially if the user it was started under wasn't even the one logging off?"
The second question is where is the documentation mentioned in other e-mails regarding how to set up the JSE8 server as a service per Sun's guidelines (I can't find it anywhere; a web link would be most helpful here).
Finally, is Sun planning on changing this so the JSE8 application server runs as a "real" service to make deployment much easier in a Windows environment (like version 7 did)?

From what I can tell about the Java EE 5 SDK beta is that it still requires the SC.EXE method of installating a windows service. I got the "JavaServiceWrapper" method to work (well, not perfectly, but it works thanks to the hint provided by the first respondent (using the -Xrs switch in the JVM on the Application server). Then, I created a JSE8Server.conf file, as required by the JavaServiceWrapper (from http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org). Here's the conf file as I wrote it (note that this is all hard-coded based on install directories, etc.) But, it does allow you to point to a specific JVM (see wrapper.java.command line) and does allow anyone to log on and off the Windows system without shutting down the application server (domain).
The only problem with this is that that java service basically runs to start the service and then dies. The application server is then spawned on new disassociated Process IDs; so, without writing some more code to periodically ask the application server if he's "up", there is no automatic restart capability...at least from the service's span of control.

  • Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 - question on UML support

    Hello Everybody,
I was looking at the features of "Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8" and in the UML support feature they said that this IDE provides source code synchronization with the model. It does this without using markers or tagging in the source code.It says, using them will reduce the productivity.
I just want to know the reason for this. How can they reduce the productivity? It says as if some IDEs use that procedure. Are there any IDEs which follow that procedure?
    Thank you.
