Java technology for Forms !

Hi
Suggest me which type of Java Technology can be easily used in 11g Forms ?
With Regards.
Dev.

Your question is very unclear.
All Oracle Forms versions starting with 6.0.8+ offered the ability to integrate with Java on the client or server side. On the client side, you can create Java Beans or Plugable Java Components (PJC) that offer you the ability to do things like extend the standard GUI behavior or execute almost any Java code on the client machine. On the server side, Forms offers the Java Importer which wraps your server side Java with pl/sql. This allows you to call server side Java directly from your form using pl/sql calls. The server side Java could be something simple like a small Java application that performs a local server task (e.g. copy, delete, move files). More powerful is the ability to use server side Java to call Web Services. These could be Services that you created or third party and/or remote services. For example, you might want to call a Web Service from a delivery company which returns package tracking information to your form. Or possibly a credit verification service, and so on. You can also use server side Java to replace old ORA_FFI calls or even database tasks.
This is only a small sample of what Java can be used for in a Forms application. There are loads of documents and examples throughout the web, the Forms Builder Online Help, and in the Oracle Support Knowledge Base. Here are just a few examples:
This web site is dedicated to sharing client side Java examples. It is not affiliated with Oracle, but has been a trusted source of some really great example for us. ( Thank you Francios )

Here is an Oracle example of how to call a Web Service from Forms:

  • Image not displayed in pdf generated using Java API for Forms service

    Hi,
I am creating a pdf document using Java API for Forms Service.
I am able to generate the pdf but the images are not visible in the generated pdf.
The image relative path is coming in the xml as defined below. The images are stored dynamically in the Livecycle repository each time a request is fired with unique name before the xml is generated.
    <imageURI xfa:contentType="image/png" href="../Images/logo.png"></imageURI>
Not sure if I need to specify specify specific URI values that are required to render a form with image.
The same thing is working when I generate pdf document using Java API for Output Service.
As, I need to generate interactive form, I have to use Forms service to generate pdfs.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Below is the code snippet:

  • Is it Possible in JSF? Can anyone recommend any java Technology for this?

I am doing Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science. This is my final semester and doing project work.
Any body having idea about my requirment, help and guide to me
My description and questions are as follows:
    Current Approach:
PHP has been used to achieve the flexibility of creating custom images on-the-fly. Using this approach we were able to create a web-interface similar to the application client, where we could display links and get the exact look and feel of the application client.
    Drawback:
This approach forces us to use two different technologies Java and PHP, since our system uses 'Java' accessing all the API's from PHP becomes a problem. while PHP provides a way to invoke any java method. It comes with a draw back, the method calls are little slow. This delay's are loading of web-page.
    Requirment:
    1. Creating custom images on various locations of the screen
    2. The Exact look and feel of the application map should be achieved
    3. Place elements and links correctly as in application-client reflect any changes
    4. Generation events on the Links and Elements
    5. Setting Backgroud images for different maps
    Questions:
    1. is it possible in JavaServer Faces (BETA)?
    2. If it is possible is JavaServer Faces(BETA) How to create custom images and create interfaces among them?
3.Can anyone recommend any java Technology for doing this?

  • Is JMS the right java technology for text message management

I hope to get some feedback on the following:
We get text weather forecast messages sent to our server (or we grab them), after we get these messages we parse them to xml, then archive and redistribute them to other servers using (wget). All this
    is done using perl scripts.
I'd like to choose a java-based technology that ttracks message flow (e.g., messages arrive, messages late, etc), then
parse to xml and redistribute these text messages.
Can any users tell me if JMS might be appropriate for this task?
    Thank you beforehand.

From your brief description it looks to me like JMS is a technology for you.

  • How to Enable Custom Java Scripts for forms in Planning 11.1.2.2

I am working on Planning 11.1.2.2 right now.
Planning admin guide says, there is no explicit requirement to enable java Script for planning forms.
I set simple alert to see text "Hello World" in function validateForm() function in custom/validateData.js file - to see and test that alert when I save data for my selected application/form.
Closed javascript file and workspace, and planning application web page. Since I have not to do anything new to enable this java script alert, I opened that form and saved data to see if I can see my alert.. I got no alert, except "data are saved".
Has anything changed since last version? Am I missing something? Or, do I need to recycle services to get this alert?
    thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, for your quick replies..!
Not sure what I missed, but I still have a hard time finding my "Hello World" alert.
    What I did, is here.
    a. Cleared all cookies and temp files from IE.
    b. Updated validateData.js file from ear / war files using 7-zip program at given path from your link.
    c. Stopped EPM services
    d. Dropped tmp folder.
    e. Started EPM services and let system deploy ear file (with my java script code).
All services are up. I can see EAR file deployed and java script file ValidateData.js has all my changes in new tmp folder now.
I am able to open my application and form.
But, my "Hello World" alert is still not appearing. Form is saved and saw message as usual.
One exception I noticed in my path. I have ....user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\EPMServer0\.... in place of ....user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\Planning_0\.... in my path. Planning_0 is replaced by EPMServer0 in this version. Rest is all same.
    Any clue? thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    Thanks for your immediate response.
I have one more doubt. I am trying to create a Hirachical tree for form using Jtree. For dynmically populating tree data I want to pass array records from oracle forms.
In my understanding, Java importer array will work if we do importing the java beans component to oracle forms, otherwise no.
Is it possible I can pass array variable with out importing my javacomponent.

  • What's the best Java technology for web development?

I'm very new to J2EE (only worked with J2SE before), and I'm interested in how it works. I understand that JSP pages are somewhat similar to PHP scripts, etc... My question is, what should I be learning about if I want to write a website using Java?
    Thanks.

I'm very new to J2EE (only worked with J2SE before),
and I'm interested in how it works.
I understand that JSP pages are somewhat similar to PHP scripts,
etc... I don't think that's true, but I'll admit to not being a PHP user.
My question is, what should I be learning
about if I want to write a website using Java? You'll have to know:
servlet engine like Tomcat or a Java EE app server like JBOSS or WebLogic
HTML (this isn't Java per se)
JSP or Velocity or Freemarker (template technologies)
    JSTL
    servlets
JavaScript (this isn't Java per se)
Depending on what you want your web site to do, you'll have to know JDBC and SQL and relational databases if you have persistent data.
There are a lot of frameworks available for web apps. Google for a list, but the ones you'll hear come up most often are Struts, WebWork, and Java Server Faces.
Spring has a Web MVC framework and lots more. It would be worth a serious look.

  • PJC for Forms Timeout

Any body has used the Pluggable Java component for Forms Timeout feature.
I have customised the form to include a Java bean and set it its implementation class.
I have copied the jar file to the OAS java path and added an entry for the jar file to the formsweb.cfg file.
Neither the pluggable java bean functions properly nor it throws an exception.
I did the setup as per the readme document. Please let me know any other settings has to be done.

    This is what I did:
    - Downloaded the timeout.jar from the OTN Forms sample code page
    - Copied the timeout.jar to my /forms/java folder
    - Updated the formsweb.cfg file (added timeout.jat toe the archive and archive_jini tags)
    - Opened the timeout.fmb sample (from the Demos)
    - Added set_custom_property('PJC.TIMEOUT',1,'ENABLE_DEBUGGING','true'); at the end of the When-New-Form-Instnace trigger
    - Run the sample dialog
    - Clicked the start timer button
obtained the following in the Java console:

  • Best combination of technologies for Java db-supported web application?

    Hi everyone!
I was given the task to develop a Java database-supported web application and am now wondering what combination of technologies would best fit my requirements.
Basically, I am supposed to transform an "Excel-based" application into a Java-based web application that can be run in a browser in our intranet (I know, that's what a web application is supposed to do).
The Excel application consist of an Excel sheet that holds all the data and a VBA form, that shows and lets you edit all the details/fields of a row and lets you navigate through the rows. Furthermore there are certain macros to filter the data table.
Now, to transform the application, all data from Excel will be moved to an Oracle relational database and I want to rebuild the functionality with Java.
Consequently, the Java application is intended to...
    - output the table as is in the browser
    - easily let you filter the data of the table
    - let you create (and save) custom filters
    - show detail view of a row
    - navigate through the rows of the (filtered) table
    - save the data that is entered/edited/deleted in the detail view back to the table in the database
So, what are the best (and easiest to use) tools and technologies to develop such an application?
Currently my reasearch has led me to the following conclusions:
*1.* Architecture: I need a three-tier client-server application, which lead us to using the J2EE platform, right?
*2.* For the persistence layer I somehow have to map the database table to a Java object,
    - either doing it completely manually (coding) using JDBC
    - or using EJB3 / Java Persistence API / Hibernate to get at least the getters and setters auto-generated, right?
Please, correct me whenever i got something wrong!
Oracle JDeveloper supports the mapping process with a wizard when using EJB3 and JPA
    (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/ejb_and_jpa/master-detail_pagewith_ejb.htm)
Is there something comparable available for Eclipse?
*3.* I'd like to use Java Server Faces for the UI. Besides the reference implementation there are several other implementations with additional components for e.g. displaying tables. There are:
    - Apache MyFaces Trinidad (former ADF Faces, although ADF Faces looks different/has different style sheet than Trinidad?)
    - NetBeans Visual Web tools (which look quite nice in the tutorial, but require the NetBeans IDE, I guess?! Tutorial: http://www.netbeans.org/kb/60/web/web-jpa.html
*4.* What IDE would you recommend? Should have a WYSIWYG editor for the JSF files and should support me as much as possible as a Java Learner!
    - JDeveloper
    - Eclipse (+Plugins?)
    - NetBeans
    - MyEclipse (only if there is a free version out there, I have read about an Eclipse plug-in, but don't know if that was free...)
*5.* Do you know some good and easy-to-understand tutorials covering this problem?
*6.* What other aspects should I think of? Are there certain technologies for the business logic or just normal JavaBeans? What about SessionBeans and ManagedBeans?
Any help, answers, ideas, explanations, comments, recommendations, will be highly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Chris

Thanks paulcw, for your quick reply and helpful comments!
The whole thing is getting bigger than I thought...
Actually this is a 1-man-project, that I am supposed to realise for small department during my internship in a big company.
Maybe a more detailed description of the structure may help you to understand what I actually need.
The table of concern, is an overview of certain projects inside the company and read-only, as it is a view on another database uniting data relevant for the department.
Then there is a second table for additional data (specific for the department) for each project. This data has to be entered, modified, deleted with the new application, while the data from the first table is only displayed.
    1) In this case, is AJAX / JavaScript still necessarily needed?
    2) EJB and Hibernate sound like overkill to me as well, but what would be the alternatives? JDBC, SQL queries and rowSets? And are the first mentioned really so hard to use?
    3) Do you have any recommendations on how to solve the multiple access problem (I'm sure, I'm not the only one with this kind of problem...)?
    Thanks to everyone in advance!

  • The Best Java Web Services Technology for Developing Web Services

    Hi,
I am new to Web services world.
I read the java web services page . there are more than 6 technologies.
    JAX-WS,
    JAX-RPC,
    JAXB,
    SAAJ,
    JAXP,
    WSIT,
    XWS-Security
I went through several documents on web services.
I could not get a clear idea of which technolgy to use.
Which Java web service technology will be the best to develop web services independant of language, platform.
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ? for rapid development of web services.

Which Java web service technology will be the best
to develop web services independant of language,
    platform.
Java by nature is a cross-platform language, so if your focus is on the need for portability, the choisce of WS should not be a problem. However, each WS is best suited for paricular uses.
SAAJ, a low-level level API, offers much simplicity, but is not the first choice for programmers, as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)messages need to be constructed piece by piece, making it a quite arduous code to program.
If you are not familiar with XML, your best bet would be to use JAX-RPC (Java API for XML-Remote Procedure Calls), as it hides the underlying detail from the programmer, in terms of SOAP and XML. The shortcoming with RPC-based WS is that it is "restricted to the local programming experience". Another failing is that assumes there is a network path- a reliability concern.
If your program will be contacting other services during downtimes, unlike JAX-RPC, JAXM is quite useful. However, your listing did not mention it, so I wont cover it.
JAXR is a client-side only API that acts as an interface between registries (not referring to JAXP)
I am not famiiar with JAXB, JAXP, WSIT or XWS-Security..
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ?It depends on what platform you are used to. Assuming you are familiarized with the J2EE platform (now changed to Java EE SDK), the NetBeans IDE (either 5.5, 5.5.1 or the latest editiion) is quite useful. I am using 5.5.1, but have found that it is quite buggy, especially when adding WS operations, a core requirement of a WS. if you will be using to devlop a service for an immediate need, you may find the learning curve to be a bit high, in terms of getting to grips with how to use it. (Download link:
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/index.php)
The IBM Autonomic IDE (or AIDE), based on the WSDM standard, includes 3 sub-tools, icluding the IBM Manageability Endpoint Builder which, according to their website, allows individuals to build endpoints to allow manageability interface exposure; Manageable Resource Browser and the IBM Manageability Endpoint Simulator. However, I'm not familiar with this IDE. (Download link: http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/aide/download)
The .NET Framework uses the Visual Studio IDE. For an unbiased comparison of J2EE and the .NET Framework in terms of WS, see http://www.webservicesarchitect.com/content/articles/hanson01.asp.
Apache Axis2, Geronimo and JiBX allows fast development of WS, or so the creators profess.
The PHP environment- you could try NuSPHERE PHPed. According to one website, with it you can develop a web service in under an hour.
I hope this was useful to you.

  • Java technology/framework suggestions required for solution.

    Hi,
I'm a C/PRO*C developer (for the past 12 years) and have been asked to do some Java ( which I haven't touched for 13 years).
I would like you input on the 'correct' solution (kind of like an architectural overview) of the technologies I should be looking at.
There are two parts to this.
I need to write a web browser/Application that picks up a file locally on windows PC and reads the contents of the file to populate some url parameters which go to a specific web sevice via HTTPS.
I then need a web service or some kind of servlet (I guess) that on receipt of the request by the client then stores (to a database) the request for auditing and then creates a soap message (using the data receieved) to an external third party( WSDL provided by thirdpparty). Once the thirdparty responds the web server then generates a web page for the client which includes a number of options and details retrieved from the thirdparty are displayed and on the client selecting them the result is sent to the server and the selected option is stored.
Part of this must be that the server must be capable of running as a number of instances. It must be highly secure.
What java technologies/frameworks should be looked out? Is my very rough design fundamentally floored?
    Thanks in advance.

    OldFashionedNewbie wrote:
So should I use servlets as opposed to JSP? or JCF?Servlets are not opposed to JSP. (JCF? Do you mean JSF?) You can and would use both Servlets and JSP, however, I have grown to believe that JSPs are awful and you should use Velocity instead. From what I've heard of JSF, I'd avoid that too.
Essentially then create a servlet that accepts HTTP request and manipulates a call to the thirdparty, audits data to database, and returns a page back to client which then accepts the option. The server accepts the HTTP request and deals with that lower-level stuff for you, then it invokes your servlet.
The servlet shouldn't call the third party, etc.; it should invoke other code (that you'd write) to do all that. You need a layer of abstraction between your business logic and the web tier. Among other things this will make it much easier to test.
If I were wanting to run this as a in multiple instances then I create a connection pool to the database. But could multiple app instances be able to use one network connection to the ThirdParty?I suppose they could but it seems like more trouble than it's worth and a whole layer of infrastructure that I wouldn't bother with unless (a) you've demonstrated that it's a problem during profiling, and (b) you find that there's some preferably open-source library that handles this for you.

  • What's your strategy for learning Java technologies?

Or, in other words, how do YOU acquire knowledge that is necessary for implementing Java technologies?
After having spent one-and-a-half years developing an enterprise app, I've gained lots of knowledge about Java and some surface knowledge about its related technologies (JBoss, Hibernate, Ant, XDoclet, NetBeans and probably some others I can't think of at the moment).
I'm now realizing that -- although the standalone prototype version of my program is growing mature -- I've still got lots to learn for refactoring it to a web platform. For example, I 've done small test projects using Servlets, but haven't done any work with JSP (or HTML for that matter) yet.
Now, I'm sure I can learn JSP etc., but the questions I ask myself are: how long will it take?
It's a rhetorical question of course (I don't expect an answer from you, the reader) However, it's an important issue because the months or years I spend fumbling around learning these new technologies, are time I could otherwise spend on the business logic and functionality of my program.
So, how do you guys acquire knowledge of technologies? Official training perhaps? Or do you simply experiment until it works? Or do you rely on your company's knowledge base (e.g. someone in your company knows how it works)? Or do you get prototypes built from someone who already knows how it works?
Im really curious about this and would appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks in advance,
    P

Well, it seems like most of you simply read the
various texts and try the vendors' examples. I'm
surprised that no one mentioned ever having bought a
prototype application from the onset. "bought"? What's that mean? You don't buy prototypes. You download evaluation versions, maybe.
I try to find sample code and tweak it to see the effects. Otherwise, I start writing small sample code an build on that.
I consider myself a reasonably competent core Java
programmer, but I had serious difficulty configuring
and merging its related technologies. There were so
many disjointed pieces of instructional information
that the additional research time really hurt our
budget severely. Not an uncommon thing, I'm sure. There's a lot of stuff. But don't bother learning all of it. Not in detail, at least. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the names of packages/libraries and what they do. But only really learn what you need to learn for what you need to do. The next project you will probably need other things, so you learn them then.
    bsampieri,
I've setup Tomcat and tried the examples--in fact, I
normally follow tutorials for all products I hope to
use. Problem is, the examples and tutorials never
address my specific needs. So, I usually inch toward
my goal by spending weeks or months in forums to
continue where the tutorials leave off. Anything complex is going to not be there.... the trick is to identify pieces that you can pull out to build more complex apps. And the fact that JSP/servlets have the issue of being compounded by all the HTML/CSS/JS and HTTP protocol ... I don't want to say limitiations, exactly... Well, it just makes things more complex and harder to know what you need.
Perhaps you guys are much faster and smarter than
I...or you have a much bigger budget :)Probably not... on either account.
