You can try a package named: JTwain, which is available at http://asprise.com/product/jtwain.
JTwain supports all kinds of digital cameras and scanners. You can use Java to access, contorl digital cameras and scanners, and of course, to acquire images with flexible settings.
The developers' guide is available @ http://asprise.com/product/jtwain/devGuide.php
In the simplest case, one line of Java code can solve your problem.
Good luck!

  • Video camera capture/streaming: example implementation

If anyone is interested I have put together a very simple video capture app using LTI-CIVIL (an open source video streaming library for Java) and using JavaFX. This is a more complete/useful example of some code I posted months ago doing something similar.
Performance and reliability seems to be reasonable but I have not tested heavily.
The code (ANT build included) can be found at: http://code.google.com/p/jfxcamera/source/browse/trunk/
The code is simple (one class only) and intended to be demonstration so you can copy/paste and hack at to get it into your own project if you want. Note that the LTI-CIVIL project is nothing to do with me, I've just integrated it. If you find this at all useful thank whoever made LTI-CIVIL - my effort was trivial.
According to the website LTI-CIVIL supports the big 3 OS's but I have only tested it on Windows (only runs on a 32 bit windows JVM, there is no 64bit version of LTI-CIVIL). The code should be the same however.
    http://lti-civil.org/
I realise this is hardly the full/proper support for media capture that this request is asking for but if you're really needing something while the JFX guys are working on a more integrated solution, this could be your answer.

  • Raspberry Pi B+ capture a image from a video cam

    Hello,
is there any way to capture a image from the video camera. I didn't find any media class for video. Nor did I find any Runtime.exec to use a native linux command.
    Did I overseen something?

    Hi Klaus,
There a few ideas in design stage, but nothing solid enough to talk about. And actually it should not have been possible with older ME as it's specifically prohibited by the spec. I mean native methods in Java applications. Of course there may be other means to communicate with native applications, like files, sockets etc. But no direct calls
The date for ME 8.1 GA (General Availability) release is not confirmed yet. But it should happen quite soon, stay tuned
    Regards.

  • Re: Satellite L - How to connect my digital video cam?

I have a Canon digital video camera (bought in 2004). I have been using it to transfer movies onto my other Toshiba laptop, but there is no place to plug in on my new laptop. I did use a iEEE1394 but it doesn't work on this one.
    What alternative is there?
Also on turning on the laptop I get a message saying TOSHIBA SERVICE STATION NOT WORKING and proceeds to solve it but nothing happens.
    Any suggestions pls.

    Hey,
What notebook model you have it exactly? Some notebooks dont have firewire port but if your camera has USB port can use this port. As far as I know all notebooks have USB port
    > Also on turning on the laptop I get a message saying TOSHIBA SERVICE STATION NOT WORKING and proceeds to solve it but nothing happens.
You should try to reinstall Service Station, I think this should work. Just download the newest version of Toshiba service station on official Toshiba website and install it:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
But dont forget to remove the old version first before you install the newest one. ;)

  • After an upgrade to Mavericks - my Video Camera is no longer recognized by the system (JVC Everio HD video camera)

I just upgraded to Mavericks (up from Mountain Lion) last week. Today, I tried to upload movies to my MacBook Pro, and it no longer 'sees' the camera when plugged into the USB port. I have tired iMovie, iPhoto, and also direct access, via the hard drive. Nothing works. I have even restarted the computer with the camera plugged in and it is still not being recognized, and I cannot get the movies 'out' of the camera. I have never had a problem before , In fact I loaded movies last week, just by pluggin it into the USB.
Are there ANY suggestions on how or what to do for it to start to pick up on the fact that my video camera is indeed plugged in and has movies that can be imported?
    Thanks!

  • I've imported from a video camera and the files on the laptop are not playing the sound, is there any way to retrieve it?

I have just uploaded a large number of files from a panasonic video camera on to imovie. I have never had this problem in the past, but when I try to play back the files on my laptop there is no sound. I have tried increasing the sound and normalising via the audio settings, and the sound is playing fine on the video camera. Is there anything I can do?

I have also checked that the files are MOV not MPEG etc

  • FCE: Possible to Capture SD footage from digital video cam?

Ok, probably a daft question this. Don't laugh...
I'm thinking of purchasing a digital video camera that uses SD cards. I currently use a MiniDV cam and connect via Firewire.
Is it possible to capture footage shot on SD cards into FCE?
And, if so, should I use USB from the camera, or insert the SD card into my card-reader?
The camera I'm looking at is able to record HD footage to a 2gb SD card (about 40 mins worth)
    Thanks for your time!

Cheers Tom, I think you just saved me a small fortune..

That won't work with the iPad, unless maybe there's a "control monitor" app somewhere.

  • Which cable do I need to connect my Mac Book Pro to my Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera for transferring video to iMovie?

which cable do I need to connect my Mac Book Pro to my Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera for transferring video to iMovie?

    I totally understand.
Check some things from here, I have 2 and they have been great so far.
Check here, lots of storage and reasonable prices. Also great support, you get to speak to a person
Clean off your on the G5 drive and off you go.
I suggest buying a second drive and setting it up for a back up, Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper (both "bootable" back up) All searchable on the web.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/search/elite+pro
You can talk to a person for REAL advice, Phone: 800.275.4576  Ask about exporting to your G5 and and exporting to your existing OSX, you may only need a small inexpensive drive for this.
Quick delivery and willing to help.
Hope this makes you back up and running :-)
Do get a back up drive, as it is not ""whether my drive will fail, as much as "when my drive fails"
    All the best

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

  • Would Like To Buy A Bluetooth Digital Camera or Video Camera

I'm having a very hard time finding any type of camera that uses Bluetooth. Are there any? I basically just want to take good pictures and transfer them to my computer wirelessly. Would a Palm device be good for this? Help. Please...
I'm now starting to look at Palm device for the very first time. Can somebody please post a list of all Palm devices that have a built-in camera? From a quick search, it doesn't seem like there are many. Is there some master list of ALL Bluetooth devices (digital cameras, video cameras, Palm devices)?

Then you need/want a MacBook Pro with as much CPU & GPU as you can afford. The only models with a dedicated GPU are the 15" & 17". Also consider the antiglare screen, again only available with the 15" & 17" models. Both the MBA & 13" MBP would be poor choices for your intended use.

  • Video camera - Need to shoot in Black and White

We need to shoot video in black and white, We have tried to shoot in night  mode.  But the result is the colors being brighter and not lighter.  We need to do video coding with these so the colors being too bright is not working out.  any imput on a video camera that will shoot in black and white and has an SD card slot?

I have internal memory on some of my cameras and I NEVER use it.  It's faster and cheaper to use a USB reader.  Why run down your batteries and go looking for a cable.
What can you do with $100 savings?  Click on this link...
      http://www.bestbuy.com/site/PNY+-+32GB+Secure+Digital+High+Capacity+(SDHC)+Class+10+Memory+Card/2300...
You might even find cheaper SD memory elsewhere.  My local computer dealer is selling 16gb for under $10!
With the $100 savings you can spend it on a second battery.  Then again, consider spending it on an extended battery so you can record more than 30 minutes.  Unless you plan to use the camera connected to the wall at all times.

  • Macbook pro fails to read sd card with movies recorded on it, any ideas? I can view them in the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it.

My macbook pro is failing to read a new sd card with movies recorded on it. Any ideas please? A previously used SD card has downloaded without problems. I have tried using a card reader as well as downloading from the video camera itself, neither works.
I can view the latest recordings on the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it but didn't think of that at the time. Obviously don't want to do this now as it will wipe the movies.

  • My new MacBook Pro and Imac can't recognize my digital video camera (Canon GL2) via FireWire 800 9 pin to 4 pin cable.

My new MacBook Pro and Imac can't recognize my digital video cameras (Canon GL2 or Sony) via FireWire 800 9 pin to 4 pin cable. I've tried two different cables.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Is your DV camera plugged in to AC power (not batteries only)? When you step down from 9 pins to 4 pins, you lose the "power" pins.

  • Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.
