Java UME to ABAP backend

Can java UME support multiple ECC ABAP backends?
I looked at the UME configuration for a java instance and it seems as though there is a one to one relationship.
Is this a truly 1:1 relationship in UME - ABAP configuration.
Thanks
Weyland Yutani

That is strange advice...
CUA master is an ABAP logical system and Java SID is not client capable, it is the logical system itself. So it is 1 Java : 1 ABAP from the view of Java and n : 1 from the view of ABAP (with ALL consequences associated to it!)
If you add Logon Tickets to the scenario then you have 1 : 1 <--> 1 --> n (where n is anything) but I don't think that is Weyland's question, so my answer is irrelevant here.
Perhaps you are refering to the "circus solution" of creating an ABAP client for each Java system and provisioning them from the CUA?
That is however not a solution, but rather more like a Chuck Norris fighting against a fleet of battleships (except with a more realistic ending...
Enjoy the weekend,

  • Are Multiple (Concurrent) ABAP Data Sources for AS Java UME Possible?

    Hi All,
We have a solution which is using a JAAS logon module for partner authentication. for reason's I won't go into we have decided that it is best to use an ABAP data source. We will also be using the same JAAS approach for other ABAP applications in the future. Ideally we would configure the same JAAS server to use ABAP UME data sources from ABAP server 1 and ABAP server 2.
I see there are provisions in the documentation for multiple UME data sources of different types but it doesn't clearly say about different concurrent data sources. IS this even possible? If so is it wise?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Julius,
Thanks again for your reply. This is confusing. We have an existing .Net logon application where we centrally administer accounts and where users log in. On successful login they are issued a .net Auth cookie. Our JAAS module takes that cookie, does a web service call back to .Net and authenticates them. So authentication is done on the basis of the .Net cookie, not the java UME. We simply need a java ume to allow users to execute the application that invokes the JAAS module. The application invokes the JAAS module and if they successfully authenticate they are forwarded to the requesting SAP application. So the JAAS ume is really just needed to allow various users to run the JAAS invoking application starter. Ideally we'd use the same starter application for users of SAP Application 1,2,3, etc.
So that's where the question came from on multiple ABAP  UME data sources for a single Java instance.
Hope that makes sense. Regardless the answer I guess is not possible but you see the method to our madness. And yes it is madness.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Several ABAP Backends to the same Bi java?

    Hello,
Is it possible to connect several ABAP backends to the same Bi Java?
Is there any specific information around this?
We have already one abap connected to a Bi Java, but would like to have another one connected to use Bex reporting, but I'm not sure how to set this up without interfering with the current setup.
    Best regards
    Tomas

    Hi,
Yes, you can connect new system. Create new System object in BI portal system for other backend systems. And link it with BeX reporting.
    Thanks

  • Updating J2EE engine (Portals UME) via ABAP/Java

I need to update the 'Identity management' details of the Portals UME using SPML. I believe this will need to be done using Java in some way. I was wondering whether anyone has ever achieved this via ABAP->Java->UME?.
If so, I would be pleased if anyone could supply sample code (ABAP), or perhaps let me know how you achived the same goal.

Could it be because you tried to do this in an AS Java + AS ABAP installation? The note 757692 says quite distinctly, "This note covers the procedure for the j2ee engine only!" The statement does not make it clear if this note refers to only a standalone AS Java.
My saying so is not very helpful, but the note also goes on to say, "Should you wish to change the host name of a server in a test !!! !!! system, you should do so only with the assistance of an SAP!!! !!! consultant.!!!

  • User mapping when installing JAVA addin for ABAP

    Hi,
I have installd SAP ABAP on a domain.
As the ABAP went fine and successfully gets installed.
When I am installing JAVA addon for ABAP it is throwing an error lke the users are not mapped.
So can any one guide me where actually I should map the SAP users in a domain.
    Prashanth

Your question is very vague, please post the full error.
As this is a java add-in it should user ABAP as datasource so no user mapping should be required.
User mapping is used where java and backend system use different datasources and the naming conventions are different...
Theres not enough information here to give you an objective answer.

  • How is the interface between the Java Stack and ABAP stack is achieved?

How is the interface between the Java Stack and ABAP stack is achieved?..Please send me the answer to [email protected]

    Hi,
By interface, I assume you mean the connection between the ABAP and the Java stacks in a double stack system.
The connection from Java to ABAP is through JCo connections defined in the WebDynpro section of the J2EE start page. So Java to ABAP requests are processed through JCo.
The connection from ABAP to Java is through RFC connections defined in TA SM59. The ABAP to Java requests are processed through RFC.
    Refer https://dsd.esco-salt.com/StartPage/documents/integration/3.html for detailed explanation.
The UME can be maintained in either ABAP or in JAVA depending on the persistence.
    Refer: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/5b/5d2706ebc04e4d98036f2e1dcfd47d/frameset.htm
    Check UME data source configuration.

  • System time for Java Stack and ABAP Stack of PI

    HI,
We have a scenario in which we have a synchronous flow of data. In the forward flow we have used field UZEIT in an RFC Lookup to register the inbound time and in the reverse flow we have used current time function of SAP PI mapping. PI time is the local time of the server, However UZEIT is 4 hours ahead compared to PI time.
Both the Java and the Abap stack are installed on the same server.
Kindly let us know the reason for the difference in time on both the stacks.

    Hi,
Yes I am refering to the System->Status time in ABAP Stack. Could you please tell me where can I check the System time of JAVA stack. I got one XML file in UME which refers to some timestamp in com.sap.security.core.usermanagement but I failed to locate this field. Please let me know where can I find the Java stack time and how can that be synchronized with ABAP.
Also, is there any time zone settting in JAVA for UTC , the way we have in ABAP

  • Webdynpro Java and Webdynpro ABAP

    hi all,
Im working in webdynpro java. Im confused about WD java and WD ABAP. which one we should select for what? And now a days people are telling that SAP is coming up all business packages in WD ABAP. Is it true? Which one is better either WD Java or ABAP?
    Thanks,
    J.Smitha.

    Smitha,
It's tough question to answer. Which one to choose either Web Dynpro java or Web Dynpro ABAP , it depends on which technology you are comfortable. In relation to the business packages SAP already provided allmost all of them in java and in the future all the Business packages also available in ABAP. It's all how you want to develop the application. In sap portal world some applciation which we can develop with ABAP Web Dynpro and some applications with JAVA Web Webdynpro as SAP Web AS available as dual stack.
If someone already has a strong ABAP background and has WD for ABAP available they should probably use that. If they are a J2EE developer they should probably use WD for Java but it is likely they will also then need some ABAP support for the backend systems.
I think more customers may be asking for WD for Java projects simply because it has been around longer and is more widely available to customers where as some cutomers prefer to develop their application using ABAP Web Dynpro because of SAP propritary. But ultimately it's again all our interest and customer.

  • Your opinion on:  BSP or Java Webdynpro or ABAP Webdynpro?

Could you please give me your opinion on the business scenario we have here:
We are implementing SRM 4.0 with backend R/3 4.6C, WAS 6.4 and Portal 6.0. SRM has its typical shopping cart applications mainly for procurement and the workflow trail displaying the approval. The client wants us to build a few custom forms on the web frontend of SRM (or may be in Portal). The idea is to store these forms and display when needed with the status info just like a shopping cart.
<b>Now the requirements for these forms are as follows:</b>
    1. These forms will have multiple fields which need to have the F4 kind of help. (the F4 options will reside in SRM or R/3)
    2. The form should have some kind of a ALV grid  (autoexpanding feature) which will allow the user to put in multiple line items so that they could submit more items on one form.
    3. Users need to be able to attach a spreadsheet to the form which should not be editable once the form is submitted. The attached spreadsheet should be stored. (We are planning on using Archivelink Filenet for this)
    4. Upon submission, a workflow will be kicked off as per the defined Org structure for approval of the form.
    5. After submission, the user should be able to go and view the approval status of the form and also print the summary of the values that he entered in the form. (may be a smartform could be provided for this)
We looked at different options to accomplish this task:
    <b>BSP:</b>
Creating BSP pages and giving access as links to the user on the webfrontend of SRM. Now, if we go the BSP route, we need to develop in SRM as the R/3 4.6 c does not have BSP development capabilities. If we take this approach, I am not sure if all the above requirements (specially like attaching spreadhseets) will be met with BSP pages.
    SAP Webdynpro Java:
It seems that the Webdynpro is easier to use because of the graphical tools available. But the only problem if we go this route is that we will have to find a java guy.
    SAP Webdynpro ABAP:
We currently have WAS 6.4. As per the documentation, the ABAP Webdynpro development tool is available from NW04s onwards. So, we are still not sure if we could use it. But, we want to push towards upgrading if necessary. Being an old time ABAPer, developing ABAP Webdynpro seems do-able. (i know it may not be that easy).
Last but not the least, DIALOG Program:
Creating a dialog program in R/3 or SRM seems fairly simple. Then, an iview could be created on the portal for this transaction, though at this point I am not sure how a spreadsheet could be attached and stored within a dialog program.
The creation of the workflow may not be that bad after the original form is designed. The graphical display of the approval trail might be difficult, but we might get away with a report for that. For printing the details of the form, I guess I could develop a smartform and put out a button on the screen to print it out in the display view.
Could you please give me your opinion /  best approach for accomplishing this task, keeping in mind the complexities of these new dimension products?
    Thanks
    Sri

I would say that all four solutions to solving your tasks are technically feasible.  Here are some thoughts that I had however:
First ABAP Webdynpro: it is true that ABAP webdynpro is only available with Netweaver04s.  04S is still in ramp-up which means that only a subset of the customer base is allow to implement it.  It will not become generally available until later this year (check the service marketplace for current release estimates).  That being said, it probably elimintes WDA as a possiblity for your project unless you are will to wait and to upgrade.
However having worked with WDA for a while it is probably the best tool to custom develop what you describe.  It has excellent built-in F4 value help.  It also has a damn fine ALV grid implementation.  The spreadsheet could be just as simple as file upload in binary or your could try your hand at office integration.  Finally for the form you could use Adobe Interactive Forms which also has very nice integration into WDA.
Now to Dialog Programming: You could of course use dialog programming.  It seems a little bit of a waste to custom build something so large if WDA is in your near future.  There are obvious disadvantages (little OO structure, no MVC, etc).  You would have ALV grid, office integration and of course F4 help.  You could still use Adobe forms if you implement this on the 640 system.  However there are integration points with dialog and Adobe Interactive Forms.  You could still use printed forms however. If you did the dialog program on the 640 system, you could use the integrated ITS to expose it to the web.  The integrated ITS in my experience has quite nice performance although the look and feel remains just like the SAPGui.
The Java Webdynpro route:  Well you hit the nail on the head - if you don't have a Java programmer already and you don't have the bandwidth to invest in learning Java, this can be a problem.  The Java Webdynpro environment is quite nice.  There are some things I like better than ABAP and some things that ABAP is defintely still better at.  However when it comes to heavy integration with an ABAP backend - ABAP Webdynpro is still the way to go.  Java Webdynpro does have a help feature (OVS), but it isn't "for free" or nearly as nice as the ABAP Webdynpro (perhaps it will get there some day).  That is one of the major advantages of WDA - its closeness to the business data brings several framework advantages like F4 and field help.  WebDynpro Java in 640 also doesn't have an ALV grid implementation.  I am sure that this is something both environments will eventually have, but right now ABAP has the advantage.  On the other hand, Webdynpro Java has equal support when it comes to office integration, file upload, and Adobe Forms support.  You would have a more difficult time integration SmartForms however.
Finally we come to BSP.  Honestly if I were in your position I would probably choose BSP (unless you could wait for the ABAP Webdynpro upgrade).  You could build a nice MVC OO application using BSP (stateful or stateless).  The BSP product is mature and quite well documented thanks to SDN.  You have the BSP Extensions which when used in Design2003 use the Unified Renderer.  That means that your output will look nearly identical to the same UI elements in Webdynpro.  Also BSP supports portal integration (session management, eventing, and themes).
The downside to BSP is that it isn't a full framework (also one of its advantages).  You can insert all your own html and javascript (unlike webdynpro). But this also means that SAP doesn't delivery as many framework services.  For instance there is no ALV or Value Help.  There is no Office Integration or Adobe Forms integration.  There is some farily good Smart Forms integration.  Now the upside- many people have already hit these limitations and overcame them.  In the weblogs on SDN and in a certain SAP Press book (cough, cough) you will find out of the box solutions for many of these problems.  You can find ready to use solutions for Adobe Integration, Office Integration (using Microsoft Office Web Controls), and F4 help.  It will mean investing a little more time up front to get this "home grown framework" up and running - but it is perfectly feasible.
There is a learning curve to all these new technologies however.  This sounds like an abmious project.  I wouldn't want to try and tackle this project in any of these technologies if I was new to them.  With Webdynpro or BSP - consider giving yourself time to learn the environment and cut your teeth on some demo apps before jumping into such a huge development.

    Hi Nilesh,
From the error i think that the error is with the hostname.
Please enter the the Application Server IP/Hostname.
If you are loggin to SAP System "XX1" from SAP GUI. Then click the change Item tab and see Application server name/IP let say "XX2" for hostname or "xx.xx.xx.xx" for IP.
    Replace <i>srv[0] = new Server("gateway","sapgw00","JCOSERVER01",repository);</i>
    with <i>srv[0] = new Server("XX2","sapgw00","JCOSERVER01",repository);</i>
If App Server is IP then replace with
    <i>srv[0] = new Server("xx.xx.xx.xx","sapgw00","JCOSERVER01",repository);</i>
Let me know if it is throwing any error.

  • How to change Java UME to point to LADP in dual Stack System.

    Hi,
We are in the process of CRM upgrade from 5.x to 7.0. Our 5.x system is dual stack system and Java UME authentication is set to dataSourceConfiguration_r3_roles_db.xml
Right now CRM users login to Enterprise Portal using ADS authentication and access CRM using Single Sign On.
But in 7.0 they want to use JAVA stack in CRM directly using ADS.
According to this note 718383, we can't change UME to LDAP if it's set to dataSourceConfiguration_r3_roles_db.xml.
Please suggest how we can change UME to ADS during CRM upgrade to 7.0.
    Thanks for your help!!
    Kiran

    > According to this note 718383, we can't change UME to LDAP if it's set to dataSourceConfiguration_r3_roles_db.xml.
Correct. Otherwise you will loose the 'connection' between the ABAP user and the roles.
    > Please suggest how we can change UME to ADS during CRM upgrade to 7.0.
You can't. A dual stack instance requires the Java user store being in ABAP.
I would recommend anyway separating the two instances and making two out of them and no more use double stack systems. This will make changes easier and also does not force you to keep them both in sync (supportpackages).
