Java Update Release 1-Install Process Freeze
On downloading Java Release 1 for Mac OSX 10.5, after downloading, I was prompted to enter my user password for a second time. As of now 'CONFIGURING INSTALLATION' has been frozen for over an hour with no movement on the progress bar.
Contemplating aborting the install and seeing what happens.
Your thoughts.
I experienced exactly the same freeze.
A previous poster wrote "I successfully installed Java by downloading the disk-image from:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/javaformacosx105 release1.html"
That link is giving me a "Hmm, the page you’re looking for can’t be found" message.
However going through the usual route, support.apple.com, downloads, gets me to
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/javaformacosx105update1.html
which does work (at least in terms of getting me to the download page... haven't tried installing it yet).

Java update cannot be installed..
I'm having a problem and can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue. Hopefully, someone can point out what the problem is.
I'm trying to silent install jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe with instructions I found here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html
In my batch file I'm using the following syntax:
Start /w C:\Drivers\Software\Java\jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 NETSCAPE6=1 MOZILLA=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 WEBSTARTICON=0"During the install process I receive this error:
Java update cannot be installed on this machine because the directory you have chosen to install is locked.
Please close and browser or application that is using the directory you have chosen for installation. If I hit the 'RETRY' button it continues installation just fine. Any ideas what is causing this error?
As a long shot I removed the JAVAUPDATE=0 but, it still had the same problem.
TIA
-KirkI got the same problem when I was just doing a regular install. After struggling for a few days and following the idea that something else must be using an older JVM, I tried this:
I closed all the non-native windows applications. Some of these were running in the background. The culprit was Google desktop search!!
Once I closed google (by right clicking the icon and exit-ing), the Java installation process went smoothly.
I think this concept would work for you. It is either google desktop or some other application that is running in the background that is using an older JVM. -
I keep getting an error, and the Java Update will not install. What can I do?
Never mind. I kept trying, and finally when I opened "About This Mac" and clicked the software update from there (as opposed to the "Software Update" just below), the Java update finally worked.

Java Update Cannot be installed, directory locked
When attempting to install J2SE SDK 1.5.0 on my WINNT4 SP6a sustem,
it appears to almost complete, and then, when Finishing Installation, shows
a Retry/Cancel window saying, "Java Update cannot be installed on this machine
because the directory your have chosen is locked. Please close any browsers or
applications that are using the directory you chose for installation", or words very
close to those quoted. Nothing else is running. I rebooted the machine prior to
beginning the install.I too have the same error after an systray auto update came up and I said yes to install v5.0 or something, and said the above locked message, I closed all apps, and pressed retry, didn't install.
I am running winxp with ALL latest windowsupdate patches.
At least microsoft installers don't have any weird problems like this, and I now dont know how to reinstall it, because it appeared from my system tray as an update notification. -
Java Update - After deployed install and settings
Hi there,
In our managed Windows 2000 environment with Windows XP Pro clienst (SP2) we use Active directory to deploy software packages.
We are currently trying to install J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5, which works perfectly. We have made a transform file for giving answers to the MSI file of the Runtime Environment.
In the tranform file we have specified as wel that "Java Update" will be disabled after installation. This works well, too. After deploying the package, however, we notice that when a user logs on onto the workstation, a message is diplayed on screen, asking the user whether or not he want to re-enable the Java Update mechanism.
Is there a way (e.g. by a registry key, or another MST adaptation) to prevent this message?
Another question: is it possible to set the "Temporary Files", "Jar compression" level and several security settings like "Warn if certificate authority can not be verified" via registry keys or within a transform file?
Any help would be kindly appreciated.
Regards,
Sander.I don't know what happened, but AFAICT, you did the job wrongly. I suggest redoing it this way (TM help files) and not worrying about fixing the mucked up system:
+*To revert to a previous version of Mac OS X:*+
+1. Insert the Mac OS X installation disc in your computer’s optical drive (or an optical drive connected to your computer).+
+2. Double-click on Install Mac OS X+
+3. When the Language Chooser appears, select your language, and then click the Continue button (looks like an arrow).+
+4. Choose Utilities->Restore System From Backup.+
+5. In the Restore Your System dialog, click Continue.+
+6. Select your Time Machine backup disk.+
+7. Select the Time Machine backup you want to restore. To restore your computer to the state it was in before you erased it, choose the most recent backup.+
+8. Follow the onscreen instructions.+
Alternatively, if the SuperDuper! backup was a bootable one of your previous installation, restore it. That's better and faster than mucking with the TM restoration procedure above. -
Java Update does not install latest build
Kind of an odd bug I suppose: Java Update only installs up to build 6, even though build 7 is listed on the site. It's possible that the latest build hasn't been placed on the update servers yet, though personally I think there's a problem with Java update itself. It doesn't seem to need to sequentially install the builds either (though, what developer does that anymore?) as after updating to build 6, Java Update stated that it was the latest version.
A month is too long to have failed updates, ellencav. I know you mentioned you have a Samsung Galaxy 3. Can you clarify if you have the Note 3 or galaxy S 3? Was a warranty replacement offered through Verizon tech support? This way, as long as you met the terms of the warranty, a replacement would be shipped to you and the defective device would be shipped back.

Safari Crashes after Software Update, Java Update
Dear Support:
I've recently updated to Lion 10.7.3, had it for a few weeks with few problems. I had 6 software updates to install, including a Java update, so I installed. I allowed the laptop to restart and left the room. When I came back a few minutes later, Safari had quit unexpectedly upon repoen. It now won't even bring up a header menu, crashing on start with the following error / binaries report -

You need to move the Safari app back to the Applications folder. It's on your user desktop. Do this before updating your software.
Version:
5.1.4 (6534.54.16
Now update your software.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
That should bring Safari up to 5.1.5.
Restart your Mac aftter the update is installed.

Java update crashes Safari and Mail
When upgrading to the latest version of Java, I got a message at the end of the cycle saying that the "source media" was corrupt (or a similar word). I now find that both Safari and Mail crash immediately upon trying to open a URL or a mail message.
Do I uninstall Java? If so, is there guidance on the process? Where might I get the latest safe version of Java? Is Java the source of the Mail problem as well?
(Needless to say, it pays to fear updates.)
Thanks,
TimI have a similar problem after the Java 6 update failed to install through software updater.
I get a crash when trying to load Safari and a few other programs.
I tried downloading the Java update separately and installing it, but I get the same error "Source file is corrupt". I've tried repairing permissions and a disc repair, but despite these working OK I'm still encountering the same problem.
I'm now thinking of rolling back in Time Machine, but fear that this will happen again when next updating.
I can attach an error report if necessary. -

I need to upgrade my first generation Macbook Air 1,1 to Lion OS x10. I need to install other software that requires 10.7 also a java update that requires 10.7. I am currently on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and my macbook Air 1.1 will not go up to Mountain Lion. The Lion software update 10.7 is no longer available from the store or downloads.
Where do I get this?
It was only released a couple of months ago.
I really feel disinfranchised already by not being able to upgrade and keep up with other software needs but to not allow me to update to my full capacity is really ridiculous.@Jennacide wrote:

Apple releases Java update for Mac OS X Tiger
Apple released J2SE 5.0 Release 4 on Tuesday, an update for Mac OS X 10.4.5 Tiger users. According to notes provided with the update the release delivers improved reliability and compatibility for the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0. With today's release J2SE 5.0 becomes the preferred Java version, superseding Java 1.4.2. Apple notes that Java 1.4.2 is still installed on the machine, but applications will run with J2SE 5.0 unless they specifically request Java 1.4.2. The update is available as a download from Apple's Web site
or via the Software Update mechanism in Mac OS X.

InDesign freezes at tartup after Java update
Hi everyone,
On this morning, I have had an update called "Java for Max OS X 10.6 Update 16" installed on my Mac. Since this moment, at InDesign startup, the application freezes, and the welcome dialog box remains gray. I can't open any menu or click anywhere. I can only force close the application.
Has anyone had this issue ? It is the same on CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 (works on CS4). I have no third party plugin or extension. It is vanilla InDesign
Thanks in advance
RémiI finally reinstalled my OS, and tried launching my freezing InDesign. It worked.
I then installed all the updates but the suspected one. It went on working.
I finally installed this Java update. It stopped working.
I reinstalled another time my OS and all the working updates. I won't perform last Java update, event if it's not recommended. But in my case, I don't see alternatives, so... this is the best one for me. -

I'm not able to install the new Java update
I have a MacPro 2.8 Intel Core Duo 8GB 500GB HD with Mac OS 10.6.8 installed and every time that I try to install the sugested update from my mchine I receive an error message as: " The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time the Software Update runs"
I already restarted more than three times and cleaned all system with Onyx but continue to receive the same message.
Is there anybody there with the same issue that I'm having? Any help?
Thank you in advance for any light on this issue!Check out all software you have that uses Java, like software that that uses database connections (using JDBC).
Several people are reporting that the latest Java update (_29) breaks their critical software.
The solution for at least one was to re-install a "combo updater" from and earlier age (earlier than the _29 update) to re-instate the previous Java.
