"java" uses a lot of data
I have a process called "java" that sends a large amount of packages constantly. It maxes the bandwith out, constantly. I have tried uninstalling javaApplet, and disabling java in both Chrome and Safari. What can this be?
I´m on Mavericks.
First thing to do about the data usage would be to see which apps are using the data...
Tap "Settings" on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap "General" on the "Settings" page and tap "Usage."
Scroll down to "Cellular Network Data" to view the amount of data your applications have sent and received. Tap "Reset Statistics" if you want to reset these figures.
I would also make sure she has the most updated software, which can be accomplished by simple connecting the phone to a computer running iTunes. It will let you know if you need an update, and can install it for you. This may help your slowness and glitching. You can also go to Settings>general>software update to check this out, but I would recommend actually doing the update via itunes instead of over wifi.
Other things you may want to try are going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. This will not erase any of your personal data, but will frequently correct problem settings that can cause glitches.
Lemme know if none of that works.

I have recently discovered a website called bluecava operating on my iphone 4s, according to my website data log. I've never been to this site, but according to my data log this site is using a lot of data, along with other sites which I have never visited before. I'll definitely be updating my browser as well. However, Lawrence, I did find during my research that bluecava DOES NOT operate based on cookies. It uses your IP address to consistently track patterns of behavior, even
within multiple devices of one household, so that deterring the tracking is not as simple as turning off cookies to a site. (See screenshot below from bluecava.com)
If you go to the bluecava site's privacy policy, you can actually opt-out, however, blogs have criticized bluecava for not explaining exactly what happens when a user opts-out. It may be beyond our control... -

Does the iPhone use a lot of data?
I'm planning to get an iPhone from AT&T, and here's how I want it:
AT&T Family Plan (550 minutes) with 2 lines
Messaging 1000
2 GB data package for iPhone
The second line won't have the messaging or the data plan and will most likely have a basic phone.
But here's what I'm kind of concerned about: how much data does the iPhone use on average? Will 2 GB be enough?
Also, as a subtopic, how does the messaging 1000 plan work? Does it mean that I can send 1000 texts/pics and also receive 1000 texts/pics, or is it 500 each? What about for 2 GB data? How does that work?

As far as I know, when you have a WiFi-connection all data will go through WiFi and therefor will NOT use your 3G data.

How do I use my iPhone 4s to set GPS co-ordinates to use at a later date?
I'm wanting to go to an aread in the bush - enter the GPS co-ordinates in my iPhone 4s and then be able to go back to the same place at a later date. How do I go about it. I have no idea if I even have a GPS on my iPhone 4s.
There is a built in GPS and map function that provides basic navigation using Google Maps. It's hard to miss right there on the home screen. However, it is maunal; you have to tap "next" when you reach each waypoint, and it does not provide spoken directions. It also downloads maps in real time, so it can be slow if you have a slow data connection, and it uses a lot of data if you are on a limited data plan. It is excellent for walking and public transportation, less useful in a vehicle unless you have a navigator sitting in the car.
There are several commercial GPS apps that you can buy from the App Store, but no free ones. Just search the App Store for "GPS". -
Downloading iCloud songs to play on iPhone when wifi not available uses way too much data
When I am out of town (camping) or away from a wifi site and want to play a song with the iCloud symbol, I have to use a lot of data - I'd like songs to be available to me to play whenever I want without having to download or be near a wifi site...help!
We are in the same boat. Got our daughter a 5S in February, it came with iOS 7.1 and it consistently uses at least double, if not tripple the amount of data that her 4S did (with 7.1 loaded). She uses the same apps that she did before, no more, no less. We have done ALL the tweaks recommended on the various boards, shut off cellular to apps, etc. We have been arguing with AT&T (our provider) and Apple. AT&T states that the usage is the usage and what is being reported by the device. We have been to Apple and had the phone wiped clean and new iOS 7.1 loaded. As a test with the 5S, with everything off cellular except Safari, I reset the statistics to 0 and then went to three websites (google, ask, webcrawler). I then used my personal iphone 4S (on verizon), reset the statistics and went to the same three websites. The 5S used more than double the data that the 4S did to load the same pages.
(I went to the pages first prior to resetting the statistics so that they would be cached)
Can anyone explain this? The Apple Genius tech could not and replaced the device. Guess what..... The new device does the same thing.
I am so disgusted with this whole thing AT&T <----- | -----> Apple....... No answers. Its obviously a problem.. Either Device, iOS (starting with 6) or communication between device and networks (Sim Card?)

I recently upgraded our family's mac to OS X. I thought this was the perfect time to create and use "user accounts". We had always used 1 main account. So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account? I wanted to be able to manage my own itunes library, iphone apps, messages. But I still really need to use the Stuff I have in Quicken essentials. I don't want to have to restart all my work done in Quicken already.
I haven't used Quicken in a while, but most applications store your files in your Documents folder. Is that where your Quicken data file is? What you do next depends on how many family members need to get at that data.
If multiple family members need to use the Quicken data file, try moving it to the Documents folder in the Shared account. That is an account that all accounts can see. It's at the same level as the other accounts. In other words, Shared is one level up from your Home account, or Hard Drive/Users/Shared.
If you're the only one allowed to see that Quicken data, move the Quicken data file from the old main account to your account, and don't leave a copy behind. You can use the Shared folder as a way station for the transfer since you won't be able to see both accounts' Documents folders at the same time (because you're not allowed to peek into other people's accounts). Or you can use another disk or server for the transfer, as long as you can get to it when logged into either account. -
Using the Insert statement in a Java program without hardcoding the data

this is james mcfadden. i have developed a program called Demo.java, which is used with another program called QueryTableModel.java (a program that allows data to be viewed in a JTable). The Demo.java program displays a menu, connects to a database, allows the user to add data into the database and allows the user to view data that is already in the database. I have a problem with the Demo.java program. I have hardcoded the Insert statement in it. How do you use the Insert statement to put data into a database without hardcoding the data?

iCal reports that it can't find server, and lots of data from several years ago is trying to get attention. Cannot bring up calendar in any view to use. also keeps loading unused calendar websites from long ago. I can' remove them. what to do?
UPDATE: I had 36 Safari windows open and minimized on the dock from my last session; 20 of those windows failed to open b/c Safari "couldn't find the server"; I just went to the URL bar of all 20 pages and clicked return, and all 20 pages loaded perfectly, without dropping any images or losing formatting. This is a puzzle!!!

Does 'find your iPhone' use a lot of internet? My mobile data is running out ridiculously fast and I need it to slow down! Anyone has suggestions / info?
You should shut down all the apps running in the background and then reset your phone. Double tap the home button to open the multitasking drawer (iOS 6.X) or the multitasking screen (iOS 7.X) if you are on iOS 6.X press and hold one of the app icons and wait for the icon's to start to jiggle, just like when you want to delete an app. Tap the little x that appears in the upper corner of the icons. Repeat until all the icons are gone.
If you are on iOS 7.X once the multitasking screen is open swipe up on all the app images until they are all closed. Tap on the home screen to close.
Then press and hold both the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time and wait for the Apple logo to appear then release both buttons. The phone will restart itself.
If this doesn't help try doing a Reset All Settings reset, you will not lose any data or content or media. But you will have to reset any setting you turned on or off in Settings. This will reset all settings back to factory default. Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings. -
So I just noticed that my computer is using a TON of data. I recently switched over from AT&T Edge network on Sunday Night, and now I am on Verizon 3G all the time. We have an unlimited data plan which is good, but I don't understand why I am using almost close to 12GB's of data in less then 5 days?
I had the same problem with my 16 GB vzw iPhone. My data usage was saying I used 44.5 GB of data! this was so wrong because I almost always use wifi and usually turn cellular data off. I got a new 32 GB phone and never turned cellular data off. This seemed to fix the problem. I had called both apple and vzw and they said on their end my data usage was showing 88.6 MB not GB. Could be a possible bug with turning cellular data off. Have you done this before? Try dialing *228 option 2, for this helps problems sometimes.

What is the output of Maya and how does Java use it in animation.
What type of software is used and what input and output files are created in the animation process?
From what I read:
Maya is used to create polygon structures, perform rigging, and it attaches surface textures which are made in Photoshop. Then Maya creates key images or positions of the animation. Next Maya exports an image and a data file to do the neccessary transformations. Finally, Java uses the image and the data file to paint the images and their position based on the game logic's use of the data file.
What have I missed or described wrong?
I also need more clarity on the input files to Java and how Java stores and uses these files. The use of Maya images and files seems different. Is Maya or Java doing the transformations or are they both doing them? How does this work?

What this means in my situation is that tags are an unnecessary way of spending a lot of time making my file system more complicated, without adding any value whatsoever. Without tags, I can find any of my 3,000 files with a few clicks. (On my computer, Spotlight has cobwebs. I very rarely need it, but it's wonderful when I do.) Now that I know how tags work, I can ignore it.
A human being can only perceive a quantity of seven without counting or grouping; hence we arrange things in structures to keep the number of entitites low on each level. You don't need to count three objects to know that they are all there, but you do need to count twelve objects. Which is why Home Alone was believable. We sort screws and nails in jars and toolboxes have compartments. Even the grocery store has a hierarchical arrangement. You don't find steaks in the bakery section, or breakfast cereal in the produce department.
Some people aren't organized, and that's not a bad thing, but no folder, no tag, and no group is going to change a fundamental personality characteristic.
Thanks everyone for showing me that in my case, there's no point to tags. That saves me a lot of time.

Longer boot time with 10.4.11?`
I updated my macbook pro from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. No major problems so far, but it does seem to take longer for the computer to boot up. Anybody else noticed this? Any explanation? AK
