Sun is very very good at not introducing regression bugs in patch releases.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
Actually, you cannot download Snow Leopard. You downloaded a Snow Leopard updater.

  • Sun Java Plug-in Required Installing the Sun Java Plug-in, version 1.6.0_19

    Hi,
am new to this thread, excuse if any issues in posting,
my pblm is am running my application,
    Sun Java Plug-in Required
The Sun Java Plug-in must be installed on your local machine in order to run this workbench. The Sun Java Plug-in can be downloaded from the following directory:
    /dsworkbench/clientinstall
Please contact your system administrator to verify the location of the client installations.
Installing the Sun Java Plug-in, version 1.6.0_19
The Sun Java Plug-in is required to run the WebLogic version of this workbench. To install:
Download the file jre-6u19-windows-i586.exe and execute it.
On the license terms screen, select Custom setup and click Accept.
If you want to change the default installation directory, click Change and specify a different directory. Once the installation directory is set, click Next.
Click Next to accept the default browser registrations.
    Disabling Auto-Update Capability
By default, the Java Control Panel is configured to automatically download and update to newer releases of the Java Plug-in as they become unavailable.
It is advisable to turn off this feature so that compatibility between the Java Plug-in and the workbench is maintained. To turn off automatic updates:
Open the Windows Control Panel, and click Java. The Java Control Panel displays.
    Click the Update tab.
Under the Update Notification area, deselect Check for Updates Automatically.
"Java Update - Warning" dialog box displays. Click Never Check.
Click OK to save and then close the Java Control Panel.I have done the same and I restarted browser and my machine, and when I relogined to the application still the same message is appearing,
I don't know if I need to set the environment path, but I have done it. any pointers will be helpful

This tends to be a 32 bits / 64 bits problem. The runtime must match the architecture of the browser you're using; so if it is a 64 bits browser, you MUST have a 64 bits runtime. If it is a 32 bits browser you MUST have a 32 bits runtime. You can install both and cover all cases.

  • Java programs which require a specific version of java won't work

So I'm running 10.4 on my macbook pro, and when I try to run a java program that requires any version of java, I get an error saying I don't have that version. Java works fine from the command line when I run programs I wrote, and java -version outputs:
    java version "1.5.0_16"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_16-b06-275)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_16-132, mixed mode, sharing)
When I try to run something (say, some java applet), I get the message:
Could not launch the application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed.
    (in smaller print):
This application requires Java 1.4 or later, but only the following Java versions are installed: . Updating to a newer version of Mac OS X may resolve this.
The message makes me think that in some text file or some preference somewhere, the thing that tells the system what version of Java I have got deleted. Anyone have any ideas of something I can do to fix it?

I usually use Win 7 and lately have been playing with the Win 10 preview. I like Win 7.

  • Updating to signed JARs causes problems for older Java versions?

Bear with me on this one -- not a Java developer, but an end user of Java products looking for a little clarification.
We use a product which delivers a Java application via JAR file / web to end users (GlobalScape's EFT server).  With the recent release of Java 7 Update 51, users have been running into issues running these JAR files as they are not properly "signed".  We're working with the vendor to get updated signed JAR files in place, but they've warned us that these new JAR files will cause errors (or maybe not work at all) on folks who aren't running Java 7 Update 51.
Trying to wrap my head around why that might be.  Best theory I can come up with from perusing threads here along with the Java team blogs is that the new security attributes used in the updated JAR files aren't "trusted" by older versions of Java (prior to Update 51?).
We're pushing our vendor for clarification, but curious if someone here could help explain.
    Thanks!

I suspect the problem with 'new JAR files will cause errors' is mainly because the vendor keeps enhancing their product, and may not any more support older JREs, or the new jars are no more compatible For example, we build our product on JDK 1.5 ... as some users out there must use that one because the 'newer and better' release does not work for them.
But so far, we have not seen any problems running the 'JRE 7 Compliant' applications on older releases ... provided you can make your application run on latest JRE 7.
In most cases, one can simply remove the previous signature, add (now required) attributes, and sign the same jar again.
But I have yet to find a vendor that would simply add attributes to some older release and re-sign those. Perhaps they can't repeat the build / QA cycle, and would not 'trust' the re-signed jars.
Our curse are signed Cryptographic Provider jars.
Those must be signed by certificates rooted by Sun/Oracle, and adding attributes invalidates that signature - we can re-sign them, but then they won't work. In our case, we are stuck with 5+ year old Bouncy Castle jars, and it does not help us that their 'current' jars are signed with attributes - they are completely incompatible..
IMHO, Oracle failed to think this all thru - or does not care.

  • HT5045 Is there a way to install older versions of Java, like Java 6 Update 26 on Mac OS X 10.7 ?

We have an application that worked fine on Java 6 Update 26. Update 29 broke the application. Even though we have fixed the problem, for people using older versions of the application, there is no recourse, if they have upgraded their OS to 10.7. So, is there a way to install Java 6 Update 26 on Mac OS X 10.7 ?

    Hello,
I have a client that just started working remotely and needs to do payroll via her Mac OS X 10.7.5 system via a web browser. The payroll system appears to be ADP/Kronos as far as I can tell. We first tried using Safari and it said the plugin was missing so we downloaded the latest Java and installed. When we tried to run it dumped the following error. (see below)
At this point we decided to try Firefox and rather than a dump we found the message Java 1.6.0_07 required.
At this point we went hunting for an older version of Java and did find one only to be told if was specifically for OS X 10.5.x. My client is running OS X 10.7.5.
I have other clients running Windows that have multiple (older) versions of Java installed including 4, 5 and 6 all on one machine so I'm not sure if this is possible on Mac OS X or not.
Note I am not in charge of the payroll system and have no way of updating that side of things. I may recommend that my client contact her internal Help Desk or revert to using a Windows based system as I know for sure that would be capable of handling these requirements.
    Thanks, Jason

  • Use Java version 6 update 7 and ASDM 7.1.3

ASDM access to 5500 using Java was just a frustrating experience. If you manage only one device you may not notice the pain. But if you are managing multiple devices with some device 'forbidden' to update ASA firmware, it is very frustrating. I spend few days looking at the issue and came to a conclusion and decided to post to guide all newer VPN admins who will go through the same pain and hopefully we can reduce some combined wasted time. No thanks to Cisco. This is not a guide but a start point of a dicussion and all input are welcome.
Recommended Beginning Setup for New Admin :
      Java Version 6 Update 7
      ASDM 7.1(3)
      Reason for recommendation :
      a. There doesn't seem to be any recommendation to where to start your ASDM journey. So here. Start from here. Attached PDF is simple list of Java version and its release date. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_version_history Version 6 Update 7 is unique in that it is the last version to support Win 9x. Why is that important? ASDM is written on Win 9x interface.
      b. It is a very old 2008 release. So why use such an old security cesspool of a product as a base? Security of newer version of Java isn't any better. Recommendation of Java use is to not use it. Java isn't secure. '.' But Cisco is insisting on using it. Shame on Cisco and this ASDM Java debacle is a shameful thing that Cisco even now can't careless.
      c. Attached is the list of release date of Java and Cisco products. ASDMS for FWSM range from 2007-2010, ASA 5500 and PIX 2007-2008, ASA 2010-2013. 2008 seems to fit quite nicely in the middle. Very scientific .
      Recommendation after gaining full access
      a. Update ASA and ASDM firmware to latest. ASDM 7.1.3 has same interface as much older ASDM. Kudos to Cisco on that..
      b. Write to US-CERT and CC Cisco to have them remove Java on their key platform. (Android too.. <- now, there's a joke!)

    UPDATE 2...
ASDM ASA management platform has a major flaw. Different version require different version of Java JRE(Runtime Environment). One would think latest version should be backward compatible. It isn't so.
So far Java Version 6 and Update 7 has been most compatible for my work. But NSP and other management console also require JRE and they unlike Cisco works well with the latest version but not with older version.
Keeping and working with multiple version of JRE is a pain because JRE does not have proper control to support that automatically. One way to accomplish launching different version of JRE instead of default is use of command-line.
In ASDM's shortcut icon properties, add version information in "target:". Find out JRE versions installed in your system under C:\Program Files (x86)\Java. Add option -version:"1.6.0_07" to specify which version to use. My example is JRE version 6 update 7.

    Hello,
Does anyone know how to resolve the missing icons issue when running the ReportViewer.jar tool under the above Java version. Under update 16 the viewer had all the correct buttons and icons and worked great. Since the upgrade to Java update 17 the icons have disappeared from the viewer. The buttons are still there but no icons.

I have just purchased a 5S iphone, when I tried to sync with my Imac it comes up with "...requires iTunes version 11.1 or later.." my iTunes version is 10.6.3, I rechecked software updates but says there is no updates required??? I checked when last auto update was done which was 01/07/12 I also tried downloading from web iTunes version 11.1.5 but it wont load because I don't have min version 10.6.8. What can I do to sort this out? Note: I am a not computer savy so be easy on me.

If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
    that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!
