Java Web Start aborts after upgrading to 10.4.4

After the upgrade to 10.4.4 Java Web Start (and any clients) aborts as soon as I try to launch them.
I have two clients (CGoban2 and Pokerpages Poker Client) I think uses Java Web Start and they worked fine under Mac OS X 10.4.3.
Even if I try to start Java Web Start directly - it aborts immediatly.
I have not had any other problems with the Mac OS X upgrade. And webpages using Java works fine.
Below is a log (long!!!!) from the crash if anyone knows how to interpret it.
Grateful for any tips.

Well my problem has disappeared
But I don't know why. This i what happened.
Today my powerbook freezed and a pane/window saying
"You must restart your computer......" in four different languages.
I did so a couple of times but it always frooze and showed the same message just after the login window appered.
Someone told me that it was a "kernel panic" and that I should remove any attached devices and remove battery and power cord for some seconds.
And then it was possible to login in the system seems fine again. Then I accidently started one of my Java Web start clients and it worked. And I started the next - also OK.
So I don't know what has happened but everythings seems ok now.

  • Java web start will not load on my computer

When I try and start the IR (PI version 7.1) I get the download of Java Web Start aborting as it complains that the client.jar file is corrupt.
I just got a colleague to do the same thing on her computer and the dowload worked perfectly!
I have JRE 1.5.0.18 on my computer, my colleague has 1.6 on her machine.
    HELP!
    Ross Goodman

    Hi Ross,
    Perform the below step:
Integration Builder> Administration-> JAVA Web Start Administration--> Re-initialization and force signing.
This function will cause the above re-collection and additionally a re-signing of ALL resources with a dummy certificate. The original SAP signatures of the jarfiles will be lost. It is recommended to use this function only in test systems. To get back the original SAP signatures the application has to be deployed again.
    Thanks,

  • Java Web Start no longer works after Update 4

After applying the update to Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4, my webstart files (.jnlp) now all think they are Internet Explorer files to be opened in Parallels.
Does anyone know how to re-associate these files with Java? Or, otherwise, a workaround to enable me to access the applications again.

You are not alone. This has happened to me and to others. And Apple is aware of the problem.
There seem to be 2 ways.
    1. Find the JNLP file in the Finder. Select "Get Info". Choose other from the Open With Pull Down Menu. Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices and find Java Web Start.app. Then click Change All.
    2. Open /System/Library/CoreServices in the Finder. This was suggested by nyagil (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9634326#9685181).

  • Communicate with servlet after using Java Web Start?

Is it possible to communicate with servlet to get data back and forth
after using Web Start to download the client application?
The demos come with Java Web Start are applications which are
standalone, don't need communicate with the servlet on Web server
after being launched. I am wondering if it is possible, and how (HTTP
    & JAX-RPC)?
    Thanx in advance.

I've done this using HTTP. I get the server and port from the codebase:
    BasicService bs = null;
    try {
    bs = (BasicService)ServiceManager.lookup("javax.jnlp.BasicService");
    String codeBase = bs.getCodeBase().toString();
and use the java.net.HttpURLConnection and java.net.URL classes to send HTTP parameter values to the servlet and to receive results from the HttpURLConnection's input stream.

  • Missing Java Web Start after 1.4.2 SDK install??

After doing the full 1.4.2 SDK install on Windows XP SP 1 there is no sign of Java Web Start (no desktop icon, no obvious folder, etc)! Further the appropriate extensions do not seem to be mapped.
The installed completed without errors and in other respects seems to have worked.
Can anybody shed any light on the situation?

I had this problem installing the SDK+netbeans cobundle on my w2k machine. I ended up downloading the two separate install packages, which worked just fine.

  • Java Web Start no longer works after Update 4 (2)

There was another thread under this title for which a solution was found by correcting the designated "open with" app back to Java Web Start.
My problem however is the Java Web Start simply crashes every time i try to open it since the installation of Java Update 4. And I also have a couple of Java apps that also refuse to open since this update.
Any one have any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi,
    Try this....
Go to Applcations>Utilities>Java utility and check to see whether it is denying requests to run the java applications. You will need to check the tabs and the options in it to identify the right one.
    Also you can try this...
    Remove the com.apple.launchservices.plist fron ~/Library/Preferences.

  • Unable to launch java web start

We have already devloped an application based on java web start. Most of the client machines, we try to install java web start and run the developed app, it works fine. For one of the clients machine, we have an issue with java web start itself, it does not startup and bring up the application manager. When you start java web start, it shows up the splash screen 'java web start 1.0.1' after some time, it vanishes and does not bring up the application manager. I have installed java web start 1.0.1_01 (build 04) installed on Windows 2000 Professional, by default that has installed JRE 1.3.1_04 also.
We verified the system, all the files being existing under c:\program files\java web start dir. And the JRE is also installed fine.
Couple of times we uninstalled, rebooted and installed.
Infact, we have even verified the file types for html, htm, which was set to msoffice, and we have changed to internet explorer. For jnlp file type it was already set to javaws.exe.
Can you please let me know what could be the problem.
    Regards,
    Nagarjuna Rao Chakka

There's nothing to stop you installing 1.4 or even 1.4.2, it's the jnlp file that specifies which runtime version gets used to run your application - web start can be used to happily switch runtimes like this. You'll just need to have 1.4 and 1.3 installed on each machine. It's a good idea to upgrade the web start client as the old 1.0 version doesn't work at all well with Windows XP, it's structure of storing all the files in c:\program files works against the security restrictions built into XP.
Incidentally the config file you were looking for in under c:\program files\javaws\javaws.cfg, but this is different in later versions.
Your problem is most likely being caused by web start not being able to find the Java runtime version it was installed with, the client may well have installed a newer (or older) version of 1.3 which has broken the configuration.. another reason to upgrade is the old versions are very fragile in this respect; 1.4.2 can find installed runtimes far more dynamically. Fixing the config file above should get things working again, otherwise delete the .javaws directory in the user profile and re-start web start.
1.4.2 is the best at finding runtimes, but is marred by problems with the integration dialogs, locale always reported as en_US and some strange new behaviour with classloaders and malfunctioning auto installers.. jws 1.2 that comes with jre 1.4.1_x is far more reliable.

  • JVM - Microsoft JScript.dll Memory Leak when using Java Web Start

I have posted before a topic related to this matter, although now I have a lot more information about what is going on (although still no fix for it). This is the link to the earlier post, containing JVM HOTSPOT EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5116970&messageID=9402346#9402346
The issue is that after deploying on Windows XP a multi threaded, memory consuming (40 Mb) Java Swing application using Java Web Start, and the standard web page (IE6) reference to the jnlp file to launch the installation from Tomcat, each time this application gets executed by double clicking on the desktop icon (with no IE6 interaction at all), calls start being made between jvm.dll (sun) and jscript.dll (Microsoft IE), these interactions never release the memory they consume, so after a period of using the application it crashes unavoidably. If I execute exactly the same application launching it from command line (no Web Start nor IE6 browser involved), the application works nicely all the time, no problem at all.
My question is: does anyone know why these calls to jscript.dll are even being made during web start application execution? As said, it's a desktop Swing app, it does not need the browser at all, and jscript.dll is a IE dll. Anyone can advice on how these interactions can be eliminated?
I've worked with Microsoft support for two weeks on this issue and all they have said is that it is a Sun problem and they can not help further.
    Thanks
    Jess

Microsoft suggested (among others) two test.
1- Install IE7 and run the application
2-Install Firefox and run the application
    Results were:
For 1: The application does not crash, apparently IE7 has a newer version of Jscript.dll that, in Microsoft words, handles better 'bad software', refering to 'bad software' to the java virtual machine I guess. Looking at the performance manager you can see memory goes down as with IE6, but at some point memory is released and the app. does not crash. Anyway is still is uncertain to me why Jscript.dll is getting involved at all. Although this solves the problem is not a viable solution for us, because I work in a corporation where changes such as upgrading the IE version on a large number of desktop can not be justified just because one app. is crashing, and it would take a long validation time anyway before the upgrade can proceed.
For 2: I did install Firefox in a machine and the application still crashed, but it is true I did not uninstall IE6, so the conflictive Jscript.dll was still sitting at system32. Quite possibly the crash would not happen if that dll wasn't there at all.
    Thanks

  • First Java Web Start download doesn't update, second time does

I'm using Java Web Start with our application. This release we upgraded to java 1.5 from 1.4. Now I have a few PCs, not all, that do not get updates the first time they launch the application. But when the launch it the second time they get the download. The jnlp didn't change between releases? Any suggestions? I'm not using lazy loads, in fact I'm using the default which should be eager.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have similar situation. At the machine is installed Java 1.6 u1. Setup first version of application. After deploy second version of application and run application start update, but console show that application use old packages. At the same time main package is uploaded? I'd try to use <update check="always"?> but there are no positive result.
At the same time then installed Java 1.6 u2, all works fine.
Any suggestion, how it could be resolved, without Java 1.6 u2 installation?
    Thans, Kirll.

  • What is Java Web Start?

    Hi
After installing Java 2 Platform Standard Edition v 1.4.2, Java Web Start link on the
    Windows 98 desktop.
What do I use Java Web Start for?
    Please reply soon.
    Thanks,
    Sincerely,
    Egan

Java Web Start software provides a flexible and robust deployment solution for Java technology-based applications based on the Java Community Process program (JCP). The technology is being developed through the JCP program as JSR-56: The Java Network Launching Protocol & API (JNLP), which provides a browser-independent architecture for deploying Java 2 technology-based applications to the client desktop.
Java Web Start technology works with any browser and any Web server. Each application developed for use with the Java Web Start software specifies which version of the Java 2 platform it requires, e.g., version 1.2 or 1.3, and each application runs on a dedicated Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
A main feature of the Java Network Launching Protocol and API technology is the ability to automatically download and install Java Runtime Environments onto the users machine.
For example, an application might depend APIs in Sun's Java Runtime Environment 1.3.0 (or later). When a user first accesses this application, the Java Web Start software will download all the needed files for the application, as well as download the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) if the requested version is not available locally. The ability to automatically download a JRE is one of the key features to ensure robust deployments. It ensures that the JRE that your application is tested on will be available on the user's machine, as well as make it possible to seamlessly upgrade to improved versions of the Java 2 platform over time.
The java.sun.com auto-download feature simplifies Java Web Start deployments because it makes commonly used software readily available for use with Java Web Start. Typically, only an extra line has to be added to a JNLP file to take advantage of this feature. In contrast, without the auto-download feature, developers would be forced to repackage and host the software themselves - adding a significant overhead to the deployment burden. As an added benefit to both developers and end-users, this minimizes the download time for an application since each JRE will be shared between multiple applications.

  • Unable to Launch Integration Builder: Java Web Start problem

    Hi,
I am unable to launch the integration builder. I am using JDK 1.4.2_05. The java Web Start gives the following error:
Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system
    Unsigned resource: http://<XIHostName>:50000/rep/repository/aii_util_rb.jar
I have tried deleting the Java web start cache, and even reinstalling the JDK.
Can someone suggest a workaround this problem ?
    thanks,
    Manish

The Java Web Start cannot accept unsigned jars. If the jars are signed, it will ask in a dialog box if it should allow unrestricted access to this jar.
In my case, I upgraded XI SP0 to SP4, which included updating the Adapter Core, Adapter Framework, and the XI TOOLS to SP4.
On launching the Web start, it seemed that the jars were not getting signed. JWS cannot allow unsigned jars to the client.
    These jars are maintained in:
    \usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\xi\directory_server\javaws\directory
I am having problems with my XI upgrade to SP4, and it is probably not signing the jars.
Do you know why this may be happening ...
    thanks,
    Manish

Check your web server's access logs to see how many requests web start is sending for each jar. After you've loaded the application the first time, for each subsequent launch, if you've got everything configured right, you should only see requests for the JNLP file and maybe some gifs because web start should load everything else out of the cache (if you're using the version-based download protocol). Or if you're using the basic download protocol, then you might see requests for each jar file, but even in this case, if your web server is prepared to evaluate the last-updated attribute for each jar request and for jars that have not changed, respond with no actual payload and a header value of Not-Modified, then that should run almost as fast.
You might also want to consider changing the "check" attribute of the "update" element from "always" to "background" for a couple of reasons. It should allow your app to start sooner (but this means that you might have to launch once or twice after an update is applied to the web server before the update shows up on the workstation). Also, my impression is that "always" is broken and prevents web start from ever checking to see if your jnlp file has been updated if you launch your app from a web start shortcut - launching from a browser is less likely to have this problem, depending on how often your browser is configured to check for updated resources.

I did checked the names again and I found that the makeJar.bat had an "issue".
It missed the del *.jar and I had 2 uppercase letters like ConvertorValutar, instead of convertorvalutar.jar.
After that I rebuild the war and deployed and it works :)
    Thanks.
