Java *xhtml traditional and strict question

I had to copy a piece of java code into the head of a new
xhtml doc. The original page and the first couple of lines of code
are the original code below
<html xmlns="
http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>index</title>
<script language="javascript">AC_FL_RunContent =
0;</script>
<script src="AC_RunActiveContent.js"
language="javascript"></script>
<script language="javascript">
function scrolling(){
document.body.scrollTop = 750;
</script>
I made a new page in Dreamweaver /the default is xhtml
transitional
and copied the code so the page looks like this
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
Transitional//EN" "
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="
http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=UTF-8" />
<meta name="description" content="Your description goes
here" />
<meta name="keywords" content="your,keywords,goes,here"
/>
<meta name="author" content="Your Name" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
href="/2009/idnynew.css" title="andreas08"
media="screen,projection" />
<title>XXXXXXXX</title>
<script language="javascript">AC_FL_RunContent =
0;</script>
<script src="../AC_RunActiveContent.js"
language="javascript"></script>
<script language="javascript">
function scrolling(){
document.body.scrollTop = 750;
</script>
The java function does not work in the xhtml traditional or
strict xhtml for that matter.
Can someone tell me why and what I have to change oin the
java to make it work in xhtml trans or strict?
Is it healthy to leave it alone and put the page up the way
it is deletting the first line of code?
anybody?

oops.
I meant to say which ones.
I have look at w3.org and haven't found the answer.

  • Java Script and JSF question

    Hello,
    I have a JSF component like this that has a pageSize attribute. It shows a grid with 5 elements.
    <x:gridView id="#{tab}GridView" pageSize="5">
    </f:gridView>Then I have a drop down with 5 menu items where the user can select how many elements they want to see visible on the grid. My question is, how do i use Java Script to to change the pageSize attribute above with what the user selected in the menu below? I have been looking at java script code and online docs for an hour and cant come up with anything that seems to work. Any help will be appriciated. Thank you!!!

    [...]how it was never designed to be used for
    such large applications[...]All I can say is that if this is true, then it doesn't show. Yes, I know it (oak) was originally designed for embedded systems, but Java and Oak aren't identical.
    My assembly teacher
    always makes fun of Java, saying java gives you far
    less control, it prevents you from making mistakes.
    No control over unsigned/ signed values, pointers
    etc. Yes. But broadly speaking that's the point. Java sacrifices control over such things. The return, however, is that programmers are able to be more productive because of the great swathes of problems that can no longer arise.
    The mistake is in assuming that Java is the best tool for everything. It isn't, and in fact no language us. As it turns out, Java is just great for building enterprise systems. It has a few other strengths, some of which (applets for example) have been more important in its original uptake but are now relatively minor features.
    You don't write an enterprise website in Intel assembly, and you don't write device drivers in Java.
    Not saying its not good but its good for
    smaller applications like cell phones and
    mini-computers.I think you mean something different by mini-computers to what I mean...
    Its portability is actually the main point in its favour for use in cell phones. If it weren't for that, I think C or C++ would probably have sole ownership of that space.
    Now i'm not saying any thing against it just
    confused on why a class like data-structures at my
    University [...] would be taught using java when C would
    probably be a lot better for Very Large ADTS.You and Joel Spolsky:
    http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/ThePerilsofJavaSchools.html
    I disagree, because I don't think it much matters what language you learn - experience trumps any particular initial language choice. If you're still using Java in 15 years I'll be fairly surprised.

  • Loading Flash content using loadMedia??? Or else??? Has to be XHTML 1.0 Strict and WAG valid

    I have a new project into which i have to insert SWF into an HTML page using other way that the standard Abobe way to do it.
    I know about Flash Satay but i have 300s Flash files to insert and dont want to reopen each of them.
    My HTML pages have to W3C comply and as you know, the <classic id> or <embed> tag isnt valid regarding XHTML 1.0 Strict.
    Client, who insists that his media be accessible to EVERYBODY, suggested using
    "javascript:loadMedia('flashContainer','flv/v01.flv', '', '', 'fra', '','','', 'false');"><img src="images/flashFr.jpg" alt="" /></a></p>

    - Javascript on/off valid
    - XHTML 1.0 Strict valid
    - WAG valid.

    I am VERY concerned with the fact that my pages are not being properly validated and displayed.
    I have created two different sites using iWeb '08 and while I am satisfied with the ease of use, I am concerned that my sites are not being displayed correctly... in fact, the other day my friend who is a Mac whiz and who hosts my business website on his server... tried to visit the site that I created using iWeb '08 and had published to my .Mac account... it caused his browser to flat out crash! He said he hasn't seen anything like that in years!
    Here is the site I have begun to build http://www.mcleanmonowheel.com
    If you paste this url into http://validator.w3.org/ a slew of errors pop up.
    Is this the norm with iWeb or have I done something wrong on my end???

  • Help! java wont download and I NEED it!

    Okay so I have tried to download every version of java I can and none of them are working and I need it for my website. I have os x 10.4.8 Tiger so I don't know why it won't work. Can anyone please help me out with this? Thank You.

    Well java should be installed by default as part of Mac OS X. I'm pretty sure both the Java runtime environment AND the software development kit should be included. Maybe be more specific with your question, I might be missing something.

  • Oracle 8i Lite - OO4O and other Questions

    1.) Can OO4O (Oracle Objects for OLE) be used with the Oracle 8i Lite database ?
    2.) Does Oracle 8i Lite operate as a "client/server" database ?
    3.) Is it possible to have multi-user access to Oracle 8i Lite ?
    4.) Is there documentation somewhere that lists all of the limitations with 8i Lite as compared to 8i ?
    We are in the planning stages of a partial mobile system, and want to know how much difference in development efforts for the 2 platforms (Oracle 8i on Win 2000 server and Oracle 8i Lite on NT/98/95 Laptops).
    Any information on Oracle 8i Lite would be appreciated. -- Especially need an answer to question 1 right now.
    Thanks,
    Paula

    Hi,
    I am qouting below from the oracle 8i Lite documentation which says it supports triggers . Please clarify.
    Oracle Lite DBMS
    Oracle Lite DBMS is a lightweight (50KB - 750KB), Java enabled database designed from the ground up for laptops, handheld computers, PDAs and smartphones. It supports industry standard ODBC, JDBC, SQLJ, and Java Stored Procedures and Triggers. It provides a streaming fast "C" interface, OKAPI, to its object kernel. It also supports Java Access Classes, JAC, a fast and easy way to make Java Objects persistent. Oracle Lite DBMS now supports all popular mobile platforms, including Palm OS, EPOC, and Windows CE, letting you deploy enterprise applications on virtually any mobile device.

  • Java Not Working, And Still No Answers. What Gives?

    Okay, decided to start this topic anew, since the only response I got to the other one was a post calling me "rude and impatient" (I guess that's what they're calling "persistence" nowadays..) , instead of...well...ignoring my admittedly pushy and harsh tone and actually being helpful. However, for the sake of it, I do apologize for my attitude in my last topic.
    But I digress, let's start off on a new foot, eh? On to the problem that is STILL at hand(in other words, "patience" hasn't gotten me jack, not even a "we don't know yet"):
    So last night (10 PM January 20th), the Firefox Plugin Checker said that my Java version was outdated. I also got a pop-up saying that my current version of Java at the time (Java 7 update 10) had vulnerabilities. So to try and fix this, I went to the Java page and downloaded the update (Java 7 update 11).
    To check and see if my update was working, I went to Java's check page, as well as another page I use. And here I discovered a problem. I got a notification that an old version of Java had been detected, and another prompt to download the current version (which I had already done). So I erased all versions of Java from my control panel, and tried to check it again. And when I did, I got this: http://oi50.tinypic.com/35b6xx2.jpg and http://oi47.tinypic.com/15fg37p.jpg.
    As you can see, both pages tell me that I need to install a missing plugin of some sort. So, thinking this would resolve the issue, I clicked the Install Missing Plugin button. This is what it told me was missing: http://oi45.tinypic.com/302uwbl.jpg. So I clicked next to install it.... and got this: http://oi45.tinypic.com/2cici0x.jpg, which I assume means that the plugin did not install. So I pressed Manual Install... and was lead/linked right back to the Java download page (where it all began, and what doesn't seem to be working in the first place)
    I go to check my plugins again (Just to make sure and also for extra information), and it appears to say that my Java version is current (is that what "Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.110.21" is? I don't know, I am not good at technology at all. Either way, here is what it looks like: http://oi48.tinypic.com/4kxzz4.jpg). So...if it is current, why is it not working (i.e. I am unable to play games, DO MY COLLEGE CLASSWORK, or play Java-based games)?
    If it helps anything, here is what my control panel looks like in regards to Java right now: http://oi45.tinypic.com/2qlxu9t.jpg Am I missing anything that would make Java work?
    And before anyone says that Java is not essential: It may be that way to you, but I need Java to do classwork for college. Veterinary college.
    So, in short, what is going on with Java, and how can I fix it?
    EDITEDITEDIT: I Have found that I can do my classwork without Java. HOWEVER, this DOES NOT mean that the problem is solved or over with. I STILL WANT TO KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND GET JAVA TO WORK. Even if I never actually need it, I would still like to have a (working!!!) Java version because of two reasons: 1) I would rather have such a program and not need it, than need such a program and not have it, and 2) aesthetics. Sorry to say, but I am very particular about how things look when it comes to my belongings, and the fact that Java is messing up is making me actually stressed. In short, I still want the above issue solved, even if it's just purely for the sake of Peace Of Mind.
    Another note: I would (please!) appreciate a timely response on this matter. Even if the response is a "We don't know what the issue is and/or we are working to solve this issue.", that would satisfy me for the time being. I would just like a semi-timely response that would let me know that FF/contributors here have read the above and actually give a semblance of a care about their userbase.
    Thank You.

    '''ponyparty, '''
    The first prompt you see in Firefox to activate Java is because Java is currently on the Mozilla blocklist ( the "Hot Topic" article [[How to use Java if it's been blocked]] explains the reason for block and how to activate Java, including how to bypass the plugin activation prompt for trusted sites).
    cor-el is right about why you are seeing a second [http://oi48.tinypic.com/de8f8y.jpg Java "Security Warning"] when trying to view Java applets, that you have to click to run. This is a ''' Java''' security feature and not anything Firefox does.
    Try the same Java sites in Internet Explorer .... don't you also see the Java "Security Warning?" If you want to lower your Java security back to "Medium" in the Java Control Panel, see http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/jcp.html#security for details. That's up to you but I would leave it on "High " since Java 7 is still basically insecure, according to the reports I've seen and [https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2013/01/11/protecting-users-against-java-vulnerability/ this "Protecting Users Against Java Vulnerability]" Mozilla blog post.
    If the second Java prompt is your only remaining issue then your problem is really solved, since it is a new Java security feature and not anything in Firefox.
    Some background:<br>
    At the time I was helping you in the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/944267 older thread you started] (now locked because you started this one) the solution to uninstall JavaFX wasn't known. On Dec 13th I wrote, ''There may be problems with Java 7 Update 10 since a number of Windows users have reported that Firefox is not detecting the plugin'' and I linked to a couple of related threads, including [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2628935 this MozillaZine thread], in which uninstalling JavaFX as a solution was posted 22 Dec 2012. On 25 Dec 2012 in the same MozillaZine thread, I posted a link to [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=820759#c12 this Dec 24th bugzilla comment] by an Oracle employee, who posted that uninstalling JavaFX was a solution for '''Oracle's''' Java 7 detection bug. Oracle has been working on the bug (to be fixed in an upcoming Java 7 release) and they created [https://www.java.com/en/download/help/firefox_java.xml this java.com help page], which is now included in the related MozillaZine and Mozilla Support articles on Java that I posted above.

  • Java Web Start and DeployDirector: What's the difference?

    I am the product manager for DeployDirector at Sitraka (now part of Quest Software). I'm NOT in sales; I'd simply like to provide you with some information.
    From talking with DeployDirector users and evaluators, and from my own discussions with the folks at Sun, I have discovered that there is great deal of confusion about the difference between Java Web Start and DeployDirector. I'd like to clarify this by periodically posting some information about the two.
    Though the products seem similar in concept, they are designed for different purposes. They both deploy, auto-update and manage the JRE for client-side Java applications, but beyond that, they are quite different.
    Java Web Start is ideally designed for applications deployed over the Internet, where application-provider trust is an issue. Why? The security sandbox guarantees that application can do no harm. (There's some good information about Java Web Start and sandbox apps on ScheduleWorld at http://www.scheduleworld.com/itsYourLife.html) Web Start's architecture simply consists of a client piece that interprets a JNLP file. Because of the sandbox and its simplicity, I believe JWS is best used for independent software vendors, independent developers, etc.
    Because DeployDirector is ideally designed for internal enterprise applications, it does not enforce the security sandbox. Trust is not an issue here, because internal users typically trust their internal IT group. DeployDirector's architecture consists of both a client and a server piece, which allows us to support more complex deployment and update scenarios (e.g., scheduled and optional updates) and applications management capabilities like rollback, reporting, exception monitoring, authentication/authorization out of the box. All of this is configured through the DeployDirector administration console.
    In some situations, DeployDirector may be unnecessary overhead. In other situations, Java Web Start simply does not provide enough capability and building in this into Web Start can be difficult.
    If you'd like more information, we have whitepapers and case studies (including one specifically about DeployDirector and JWS) available on our website at http://www.sitraka.com/software/deploydirector/
    If you'd like to discuss some of these differences, or if you have questions about DeployDirector, feel free to email me directly. (Or post here, of course.)
    Thanks,

    [email protected]

    Hi Gerald,
    Given what I know about your emnity towards DeployDirector (which is clearly illustrated in this thread: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?thread=348061&forum=38&message=1446155 that was evidently a response to this article: http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-11-2002/jw-1122-autoupdate.html) I'm going to take a (pardon the expression) "don't feed the trolls" approach here.
    I'm simply re-iterate that JNLP, and its implementations such as Web Start and OpenJNLP, are designed for a very different set of users that DeployDirector. The differences in functionality between the two products reflect that.
    The enterprise has different requirements in a deployment mechanism for its internal, critical applications than software vendors and independant developers. DeployDirector addresses the requirements of the enterprise. Frankly, most of our recent customers only chose to buy the product after initially rejecting it and (unsucessfully) attempting to use JNLP and Web Start. Sometimes people only learn the hard way: different users have different requirements which are suited to different tools or technologies.

  • Java Jar files, and what is needed to run them?

    I'm sort of confused on what happens with JAR files, because on my computers that have all of the java SDK's and programs installed it works as an executable. But on my computer that doesn't have java installed(except for the windows xp basic) it wont work or registers with winRAR.
    My question is, is what needs to be installed on the computer to get an executable jar file to work. Is it JRE, or the SDK? And where can I get the file/s that may be needed to be installed.
    Thanks for the help

    jre stands for java runtime environment, i.e. everything you need to run a java application on your computer.
    sdk stands for software development kit, i.e. everything you need to develop java applications
    the jre run jar files for sure

    public static void main(String[] args)

    ..What does the null mean after I call the method?.. 'null' is being passed as an argument to the method, so there is no 'after the method' about it.
    ..I really don't understand is significance, what else could go there besides null? That would depend on the method signatures that are not shown in the code snippet posted. This is one of many reasons that I recommend people to post an SSCCE *(<- link).*
    BTW - method names like have_fun() do not follow the common nomenclature, and are not good code for a newbie to study. The code should be put to the pointy end of your sword.

  • Java stored procedures and triggers in lite

    Hi
    We are using java stored procedures and java triggers in our application for oracle lite database 5.1.
    We would like to know whether these procedures and triggers are uploaded or associated with tables or not because triggers are not being fired for the tables.
    The question is - how to find the uploaded procedures and triggers in system tables.
    We dont find any tables like (all_objects, user_objects) for this in oracle lite system catalogs given in the documentation.
    thanks in advance
    yugandhar

    I don't have much experience with Lite, but I'm running 9i Personal Edition. Any information about triggers can be found in the "ALL_TRIGGERS" view. You will want to filter out any rows where OWNER = 'SYS' unless you created your triggers as SYS. As for procedures and functions, you can see what you have created in the "ALL_OBJECTS" view where OBJECT_TYPE = 'PROCEDURE' or 'FUNCTION', once again filtering out rows where OWNER = 'SYS'. To see the code of any procedure or function, select substr(text,1,80) from ALL_SOURCE where NAME = 'function name' ORDER BY LINE.
    Hope this helps!

  • Java stored procedures and referencing classes

    We are referencing to some classes/libraries which are not present in the database. In normal java world, you specify the libraries/classes needed to run your piece of code in the CLASSPATH and that forms part of your complete code.
    Can java stored procedures in the database refer to libraries or class files it requires on the file system rather than the database? Is it possible to make this happen?
    Thanks

    pshiva,
    Posting the same question to multiple forums usually doesn't increase your chances of getting an answer, and it just frustrates those wishing to answer you with the result being that any future questions you post may have less chance of being answered -- because of your uncourteous, initial behaviour.
    I have answered your other thread:
    java stored procedures and referencing classes
    In my opinion, that forum (the Database JVM forum) is the most appropriate for your question.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

    Mark this question ANSWERED and repost the question in the other forum
    Before you post review the Oracle Database Java Developer's Guide - it shows how to create Java stored procedures and has example code
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31225/chfive.htm
    And in the new post don't just say "I tried but it didn't work". You need to post the code that you tried and what you mean by "didn't work".
    If you got any exceptions or errors you need to post a copy of the exact message or error that you are getting.

  • Re: (forte-users) Forte and CORBA question

    Hi,
    The discarding the Java variable that references a distributed Forte object
    doesn't cause that the distributed object will be reclaimed. In Forte client
    you can use ReleaseDistReference() of the current partition (task.part) to
    free the remote object. For Java client, you can implement the following
    solution:
    - define a method ReleaseMyObject() in the SO you are using to get the proxy
    to the dist. object. As parameter for it use something that can identify
    your object (attribute).
    - your SO has an array or hashtable with your distributed objects, every new
    object is added to it.
    - in the implementation of ReleaseMyObject() find the object to release in
    the array and call ReleaseDistReference() for it,
    - from the Java client, call the ReleaseMyObject() for the object that is
    not more needed.

    Hello Dave,
    do you use a copy return or copy parameters in this method ?
    If not, then maybe Forte is unable to garbage-collect this object because
    it is forever
    a proxy which only the server-partition may be able to drop it from memory
    (object=NIL).
    Try this and let us know what happens.
    Hope this helps

    We're attempting to use a Java client to access a

    problem which I hoped somebody could shed some light
    on.
    We've had a Java client calling Forte service objects
    and passing Forte objects back and forth as CORBA
    structs with no problem. However, we have experienced
    some problem obtaining and using remote references to
    distributed objects from the Java client.
    The problem is memory utilization. Each time I obtain
    a reference to a new object, the memory utilization on
    the Forte server jumps up quite a bit (around 100k per
    object on an NT box). Eventually, if I fetch enough
    objects, the server will crash due to lack of memory.
    It seems that Forte never reclaims the memory, even
    though I'm not using (and don't have a handle to) this
    remote objects.
    The objects are very small. In fact, I created a test
    Forte SO with one method, getObject(); which returns a
    distributed object with a single attribute. I then
    have a Java client access the getObject() method
    repeatedly - discarding the reference to the object
    after each iteration. After a short while, the box
    will come down.
    Any thoughts?

  • URGENT- PLEASE HELP: java.lang.threads and BC4J

    Hi,
    according to my issue "no def found for view" in the same titled thread I'm wondering how you would implement asynchronous calls of methods that use BC4J to update a couple of data.
    To be more precise:
    A requirement of our software is to start an update database job, which can take a couple of minutes/hours, from the web browser. Before it will be executed the logged-in user receives a notification that this batch job has been started.
    I dont't want to use JMS overhead and MD Beans for this simple requirement, therefore I implemented a class that extends java.lang.Thread and put all the update codings within the run method. After having called the start-method of the thread I get a JBO-25022(No XML file found) error when I try to set a new value for an attribute of the row. The row consists of attributes which belong to four entity objects that mus be updated.
    When calling the run method directly, everything works fine.
    My questions:
    * do you know any workaround how to make the xml files
    reachable?
    * how would you implement anschronous calls of long time-
    consuming jobs?
    * is this a bug of BC4J?
    Any help, tip, hint is really appreciated.
    Stefan

    This thread will be called by the application module "sviAdministrationModuleImpl":

    Using run(), everything works perfectly.
    The view object IKView consists of four entity objects which are linked by associations. There exists an association between the entity objects ik and inlandbankverb. The xml-file for the association object is named "ik_inlandsbankverb.xml". It seems so that this definition could not be found when calling my thread in asynchronous (via start()-method call) mode.
    Is this a bug of JDeveloper?
