Javac Commando problem

Erhm ok (im new at this btw), i like installed java, and when i made a .java file and tried to javac it, it said
'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
But it DOES recognize "java" command
Need help plz

It's possible you've only installed the java runtime, which has the java command for running java programs but none of the development tools.

  • How can you detect (from a script file) that javac found problems?

The subject line says it all, but the background is:
I have a script file (.bat, since am stuck on windoze for the moment) which is doing some compilation using javac.
I would like to skip all subsequent activities in the script file after the call to javac if any file failed to compile.
So, what can I use as a signal from javac that it found a problem?
I initially tried detecting an exit code from javac that was non zero, but javac does not seem to emit such an exit coe when it objects to a file (it still returns with 0 as an exit code).
The only remaining strategy that I can think of is to pipe javac's output to a file, and if there is any content in it then assume that it indicates an error and use that as a signal.
This is suboptimal because it will give false signals for mere warnings, so if anyone has a better suggestion, please post

You are right: it appears that javac does exit with an exit code of 1 if an error is detected in one of the files being compiled, at least on the windows jdk.
To prove this, create an arbitrary java source file called HelloWorld.java, and create a msdos .bat file in the same directory that looks like
    @echo on
    javac  -Xlint:deprecation  HelloWorld.java
    :handleError
@if not errorlevel 1 goto finalActions
@echo ERROR DETECTED: compile.bat will TERMINATE PREMATURELY
    :finalActions
@echo compile.bat now terminatedBy playing around with what you put in the source file (totally clean code, stuff that should compile but issue a warning, and garbage that should not compile) as well as with the exit code value detected by the .bat file, for instance trying
@if not errorlevel 2 goto finalActions(see http://www.robvanderwoude.com/errorlevel.html if you need some documentation on error codes in dos bat files), I have determined the following as javac's behavior on windows:
If code is pristine, exit code = 0.
If code causes javac to emit a warning but is compilable, exit code = 0.
If code cannot be compiled, exit code = 1.

  • Javac classpath problem

I get this error when trying to compile a simple program:
    # javac -classpath .;/mnt/bdrive/MyData.class Test.java
    javac: no source files
    Usage: javac <options> <source files>
    where possible options include:
    ***snip***
    bash: /mnt/bdrive/MyData.class: Permission denied
It seems to be a problem with specifying more than one thing for the classpath. If I remove the ".;", it works. (I don't need the . in the classpath but I should be able to specify it)

    probably :)
I originally had just the path and was trying it different ways. If I use just the path instead of the permission denied message, I get this:
    bash: /mnt/bdrive/: is a directory

  • Casio Commando PROBLEMS!

Anyone else having problem with the commandos 3G? I recently had to upgrade to get a new one after my old one crashed after updating it via *228.   My new one is now turning on and off more than the old one did, freezes, disconnects calls immideatly after dialing, blacks out the screen when trying to make a call. My calls dont come thru nor do texts, the screen becomes unresponsive. Im so mad! when i veiw innopath active care my staus says Status:Service unavailable.   Code:503   I have Android version 2.3.3 ..... Anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately, you are describing the normal behavior of my Commando for the entire year I have had it.  No Verizon "tech support" has fixed any of the issues.
The only way I have found to stay sane is to use this phone in completely factory default settings.  Do a total factory reset and wipe the phone.
I have my email account setup in the pre-installed gmail app and my phone contact list.  That is it.  If I put any other apps or change any settings the phone becomes totally disfunctional.

  • Javac mystic problems

Hi, I have those errors on a simple compilation:

         ^
    3 errors
As you can see I specified the classpath and everything else.........what is the problem??!
It also compiled yesterday with no pb and now I got problems....bizzar

well some things to check then.
    - does said jar still exist at that precise location?
    - do you have the rights to read that file as your current user?
    - can you open the jar with a zip tool?
It might pay off to use a tool like ANT to build your code by the way, at least you'll only have to configure your classpath, source and destination folders once and then forget about it.

whenever i try to execute the javac compiler the cmd window comes up and then disappears... im not sure what the problem is

You need to open a console window, and use javac from there.

  • Javac compilation problem ??

    Hi,
I have a SampleTest.java file in /WEB-INF/classes/com/data folder. Similarly i have another file called TestData.java file in the same /WEB-INF/classes/com/data folder.
Where in TestData.java file i am creating the instance of the SampleTest.java like:-
    package com.data;
    public class TestData{
    SampleTest test=new SampleTest();
Here when i try to compile this program i am getting an error
" *Class com.data.SampleTest not found*." Eventhough both files are in the same package. Both of them are public classes also. Please do provide a solution for this ..Since this is really urgent ..
    Thanx,
    JavaCrazyLover

Have you double and triple-checked your spelling? If so, then I'd suggest that you show us your code. We don't want to see all of it, but rather you should condense your code into the smallest bit that still compiles, has no extra code that's not relevant to your problem, but still demonstrates your problem, in other words, an SSCCE (Short, Self Contained, Correct (Compilable), Example). For more info on SSCCEs please look here:
    http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html
Remember, the code must be compilable and runnable for us to be able to understand it fully.
Also, when posting your code, please use code tags so that your code will be well-formatted and readable. To do this, either use the "code" button at the top of the forum Message editor or place the tag &#91;code&#93; at the top of your block of code and the tag &#91;/code&#93; at the bottom, like so:
    &#91;code&#93;
// your code block goes here.

  • Verizon G'ZOne Commando Problems

I'm on my fourth replacement phone all under factory warranty. One shut its self off after an update and wouldn't turn back on.The first something was wrong with the speaker,The second kept freezing rebooting and dropping calls. I only have  had the Facebook app and maybe 4 songs(songs are on the sd card). I find it funny that when I complained over the phone they said they haven't been reports of other customers experiencing this issue and would not issue a different phone. March can't come fast enough, very rugged phone but too many issues can't wait to upgrade. The refurbished phones seem like their cleaned and then sent back out  you may get rid of one issue but you're going to get 3 new issues.

sapperscott88, this is definitely an unfortunate coincidence. Are you downloading the same 3rd party applications on each replacement device that you've recieved? Some application software can affect the performance of your device. It's recommended that you uninstall a few applications and power your device off/on to soft reset it. Keep us posted. Meanwhile, did you know that you can upgrade to a new device at full retail pricing with this option? http://vz.to/1713STl

  • Javac command in Command Prompt

When I compile a .java file in Command Prompt I have to write the whole path to javac.exe - "C:\"Program Files"\Java\jdk1.5.0_07\bin\javac.exe PROBLEM.java"
What do I have to do to so I could write just "javac PROBLEM.java" no mather in which directory I am?
I also have to say that I can run java.exe from any directory but I can't do so with javac.exe

I believe the location of "javac" inside jdk must be
specified in systems variable so that he/she can
compile it and run. His problem is that he wants to type javac MyClass.java rather than C:\jdk\bin\javac.exe MyClass.java In order to do this, he has to alter his PATH variable.
This has nothing to do with Java. This is true of any executable you want to run without specifying the full path.

  • How does javac compile .java files?

I dont know exactly what classpath javac uses to compile java files. i have set classpath to only tools.jar . and it compiles fine. i thought all standard java class files are present in tools.jar. But... when i opened tools.jar i didnt find most of the class files i expected to see there. In fact there was no java.lang, java.io ... so on packages in it. then how is that compiler compiled ? Of course i found rt.jar under jre/lib, which contained all the mentioned packages...but then i didnt give it in the classpath.
Any body pls clear my doubts.

Check out the doc "how classes are found" in the tool
docs, it will explain how classes are found in
    detail.
    tool docs:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/tooldocs/tools.html
I read the docs and understood that javac.exe loads dt.jar before it could compile .java files. but then what is the use of giving tools.jar in classpath.. i ve seen javac giving problems without it.

I was previously able to generate a types jar just fine from the web service's WSDL. Recently, I made some changes to the web service. Apparently, these changes to the web service now cause the WSDL to be unparseable when trying to generate types jars.
    Any ideas?

The WSDL is generated from my web service. I made heavy revisions to my web service which, in turn, affected the resultant WSDL. The changes I made to my web service were almost exclusively related to object substitution. For example, prior to the change I was referencing object A from my web service; after the change, I was referencing object B. The objects that I'm referring to are XMLBeans, if that matters. I can't really describe it more than that without actually showing you the WSDL.
I would post the WSDL file here to allow you to try to create a types jar out of it, but the WSDL exceeds the 30000 character limit for this field. There is no way for me to attach the WSDL to this post.

  • JNDI Properties file

    Hi,
Im having trouble setting up my first J2EE EJB and client program. I have managed to pinpoint the problem to be with the selection of the JNDI service provider (keep getting a NoInitialContextException).
Both client and EJB are on the same machine, and Im using Sun's app server v8 . Could someone tell me what I should have in the jndi.properties file, and where this file should be put. I have tried hard-coding the details into the program, but w/o success.
I assume that using the jndi.properties file will assign a provider globally across all applications in this server - is this true?
    Thanks.

I read somewhere that the standard j2ee.jar file (which I have in my classpath) contains a default jndi.properties file to allow basic JNDI access.
If this is true, then the problem is not with these properties. Heres what I have:
I compiled the classes using javac, no problems (j2ee.jar is in the classpath).
I am trying to run the client using java -classpath ClientApp.jar FirstClient, where ClientApp.jar is the stubs/skeletons produced at deployment. This method keeps throwing a NoInitialContextException.: need to specify class name . . .
I also tried using appclient, but that threw even more errors (not entirely sure whats going on here).
I have checked over my code, and as far as I can see the problem is not in there - Im sure its something to do with the classpath or something - is there a classpath I should be adding to get the client working?
Why is J2EE so hard to learn? I find myself struggling more with footery errors than I do actuially reading and learning about how to use it.
    Thanks.

    Thank you for your help

    Hi,
You need to place ejb.jar and jms.jar present in
    <jonAs-home>\lib\common\j2ee directory in the classpath.

  • Xp and access to /j2sdk directories

Hi, i am running xp professional 2002 and have installed j2sdk 1.4.1 - I am able run java and javac no problem. Both my path and classpath variables seem to be doing their job.
I have created a packages directory /jpackages under my /lib directory and added this to the classpath variable to aid package imports.
    THE PROBLEM
When i am in root [c:\] and try to cd to /j2sdk1.4.1_01 it creates an error of 'invalid directory'. However when i use dir on the same directory name i get a full listing in the normal way. When i try to javac from [c:\] stating the full path of my .java file the compiler generates a can't read file error. Cd and path doesn't work but the dir command on the same path [cut and paste!] doesn't... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG????
    Any takers?

so your j2sdk1.4.1_01 is located under c:\, meaning you'd like to access the directory by typing "cd j2sdk1.4.1_01" and it gives you the error? Maybe you should add the "." back to your path. Type this "set PATH=.;%PATH%"

  • Problem in executing javac

I installed jre1.3.1_09 version. when iam trying to execute javac, it says
"Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.". i have set the classpath for all the jar files under lib directory. so please suggest me to get rid of this problem.

This is quite surprising, as javac is not included in the JRE distributions...
