Javadoc newbie

I'm using JavaDoc 1.3.1_01 with Windows:
I have a directory (package) structure A/B/C/D and A/B/C/E with packages C, D & E containing source files. I'd like to use javadoc to generate documentation on these sourcefiles from the 3 packages C, D, & E. How do I go about doing this.
My javadoc command now has something like
javadoc -d c:\javadocs -private -sourcepath A:\B\C D E *.java.
The output from this only shows the source files in the C package. I don't get the sourcefiles under the D & E packages. In generating the documentation, I see meesages saying that the source files for package D is being loaded but I don't see the individual sourcefile displayed.
Any hints on what I'm doing incorrectly?

It's simpler to pass in package names than source filenames.
(The -sourcepath option is basically ignored when you pass in source filenames.)
Assuming your packages are named C, C.D and C.E,
try this:
javadoc -d c:\javadocs -private -sourcepath A C C.D C.E
Here, -sourcepath points to the parent directory (A) of the
top-level package (C). The package names are passed in with
"C C.D C.E"
The suggestion made by another developer is useful if you have
too many packages to fit on the command line.
This is all documented at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/tooldocs/win32/javadoc.html#documentingpackages

  • Javadoc newbie - how to get "USE" content

I don't understand how to get content from the USE button. At the moment all my attempts produce a USE button which links to a page stating something like "No usage of root.package.class".
My current argument string for Javadoc is something like
    -d c:\Doc -use C:\Source\
This doesn't work (produces a nice set of pages with the above problem on the "USE" page). To be specific there is no USE content even for two classes in the same package where one is used by the other.
I've tried guessing some longer combinations of terms leading up to:
    -d c:\Doc -use -sourcepath C:\Source\ -classpath C:\Classes\ -subpackages root.packageA root.packageB C:\Source\*.java
though still to no avail. Please can someone offer some advice? Thanks very much

No. Imports are considered by Javadoc to be part of the implementation. If you notice, javadoc does not document imports. Imports are completely ignored by Javadoc, other than to resolve names.
A "use" is where a type appears in a declaration, not an import or other implementation.
"Given class C, things that use class C would include subclasses of C, fields declared as C, methods that return C, and methods and constructors with parameters of type C."
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/tooldocs/windows/javadoc.html#use
Example 1: Class A does not use class B:
    import B;
    public class A {
         new B();
    public class B {
Example 2: method getValue uses B:
    public class A
        void getValue(B b) {
    public class B {
    }

  • Newbie: ALSB 2.6 & JXM

    Hi..
I've just been on the ALSB Course and am wanting to write something to automate parts of the ALSB Configuration import / export through JMX...
I'm using the tutorial at on creating a Session:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/alsb/docs26/javadoc/com/bea/wli/sb/management/configuration/SessionManagementMBean.html
however when i try to import the items at the top i get the following parts of the paths underlined with Unable to resolve message.
    weblogic.management.mbeanservers
    weblogic.management.jmx
    com.bea.wli
I'm new to code'in in workshop and java so would someone be good enough to help a newbie out and give me some baby steps of what i need to include to be able to resolve these items... I presume i'm needing to include some jar file in a path somewhere but i just don't know where supposed to do all this..
I'm working inside workshop fresh after an ALSB2.6 installation inside a Dynamic Web project...
    Many thanks.
    Dave

    Sorted it...
    1) In workshop i needed to add a External Archive to the build path ... these being weblogic.jar for the weblogic.management bits and to SB-Public.jar for the com.bea.wli bits...
    2) when running these on a server i needed to add the paths to the SB the 2 public SB jars to the class path as the domain wasn't extended to include alsb...

  • Another Newbie

    Hey guys
As you can see of the subject im just another newbie who needs help +)
Well...here i am newbie to java programming who extremely wants to now it and be able to manage it +)
My understanding that all that i need i can get from books. So is there any of you guys can give me an advise which book is better to start off. There is a huge amount of books on the market and i feel a bit lost.. which one?? +)
Or there is better option for me to learn Java??
    Cheers

If you can get the assistance of someone who really knows Java in person, that will be your most valuable resource. After that, the online Java tutorials, and any of the books recommended are good starting points.
If you've already got some sort of programming background, I'd personally recommend reading "The Java Programming Language" as a way to get a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of the language, then perhaps the Bruce Eckels book "Thinking in Java" (which is available online).
After that, your most valuable resources will be the JavaDoc APIs which you can access online, or download.
Finally, if you choose to ask questions here:
    * Remember to search the forums for answers first.
    * Try to include code to illustrate the problem you're encountering
    * Always include all the error messages (including compiler errors).
    Dave.

  • User comments in Javadoc

    L.S.,
Sometimes I feel the need to extend some existing javadoc with a note of my own because sometimes the existing javadoc is not very clear and I am unable to improve because it is from another vendor.
I think it would be nice if I could somehow add user notes to existing javadoc without altering the original generated HTML files.
    Please discuss.
    Sincerely,
    Patrick Holthuizen

Check out the -tag option. This lets you include custom tags of your owns design, or change the behavior of existing ones.

  • Help needed for newbie EJB

    Hi, all
I am a newbie in EJB and I am following the example in the URL:
    http://www.huihoo.com/jboss/online_manual/3.0/
I am working on the 'interest' example in the first chapter.
When it come to 'Packaging and deploying the bean', I got some meaage like this:
    ant intro-interest-jar
    Buildfile: build.xml
    validate-servlet:
    validate-jboss:
    fail_if_not_valid:
    init:
    [echo] Using JBoss directory=/opt/jboss
    [echo] Using base classpath=/opt/jboss/client/jboss-j2ee.jar:/opt/jboss/client/jaas.jar:/opt/jboss/client/jbosssx-client.jar:/opt/jboss/client/jboss-client.jar:/opt/jboss/client/jnp-client.jar:/home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples/COULD_NOT_FIND_SERVLET_JAR
    [echo] Using Source directory=/home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples
    [echo] Using Build directory=/home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples/build-examples
    intro-interest-jar:
    compile:
    ejb-jar:
    [delete] Deleting directory /home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples/build-examples/interest/META-INF
    [mkdir] Created dir: /home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples/build-examples/interest/META-INF

    [jar] Building jar: /home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples/build-examples/interest/interest.jar
    BUILD SUCCESSFUL
    Total time: 2 seconds
    Why did I get this:
    /home/xiaobo/learningejb/examples/COULD_NOT_FIND_SERVLET_JAR.
But if I check the "interest.jar" by using 'jar -tvf interest.jar' in the "~/learningejb/examples/build-examples/interest$" directory, it seems it had all files and directories in it.
But if I copy this jar file into the deploy directory in jboss, and I check the log file 'server.log'
    I found this error message:
    2005-11-28 17:31:03,536 DEBUG [org.jboss.management.j2ee.LocalJBossServerDomain] handleNotification: javax.management.Notification[source=jboss.ejb:service=EJBDeployer,type=org.jboss.deployment.SubDeployer.stop,sequenceNumber=15,timeStamp=1133213463536,message=null,userData=org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentInfo@c36a9f52 { url=file:/opt/jboss-3.2.5/server/default/deploy/interest.jar }

Then I add the follwoing line into the 'ejb-jar.xml':
    <!DOCTYPE ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/ejb-jar_2_0.dtd">
so the 'ejb-jar.xml' looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/ejb-jar_2_0.dtd">

and I rejar it and copy the jar file into the deploy directory. I still got the same error message in the log file???!!!
    Please help!

It's a no brainer between the AirPort Extreme and Airport Express.
The AirPort Extreme has 6 wireless antennas up at the top of the "tower", while the AirPort Express has four, so the Extreme has significantly better wireless speed and range than the Express.
As you know, the broadcast power of wireless routers is limited by law, and most routers are running full blast. Apple routers are not known for their broadcast power, so what we cannot tell you is whether the Extreme will outperform the existing wireless router that you already have in terms of range.
Also as you know, the speed of your Internet connection is limited to the plan that you have with Verizon. An Apple router cannot take the speed of Internet connection that it receives from your Verizon plan and make it go any faster.
A user who has both the same Verizon router as you and an AirPort Extreme might be able to tell you how the products compare in his home.
But...and this is a big BUT...... the bottom line with any wireless router is that you will not know how well it performs in your home until you try it out in your home. To think otherwise would be foolhardy at best.
Buy from Apple and you have a 14 day return privilege in case things don't work as well as hoped. Other stores may offer a similar option. Check first, before you buy.

  • Error during generation of the WSDL:  BUILD FAILED java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/javadoc/Type

When I create an EJB Transport Business Service, after selecting the jar that has the EJB 2.1 artefacts (Remote, Home, etc) the oepe plugin fails and can't continue.
As I understand it seems that there is a problem with the classpath of ant build.xml  that oepe creates inside folder /tmp/alsbejbtransport/ to compile the bs and generate the wsdl. I checked if tools.jar is in the classpath (in eclipse) and is included, so I can't figure out wich is the problem.
I found this in Oracle, but not helps solve the problem:

  • Newbie Alert: Problem with saving downloads to a network drive

I'm a new Mac user so, I apologize for the newbie question.
I've have a NAS on my home network. I can see it and access it just fine. I have Firefox set to ask me where I want something downloaded. I don't get the option of putting, say a PDF in a folder on my network storage device.
I can put it anywhere on the iMac's hard drive or even a USB/Firewire drive but not a network location. In Windows, you'd map a drive and be off to the races.
How do I do this on a Mac?
    Thank you in advance,
    Rick

AFAIK, not doable for NAS HDs. Since you're new to Macs, you're going to have erase windoze stuff from you lexicon, check these out:

    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    public class Zodiac;

    String name=JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter your year of birth?");
    String message=String.format("Your zodiac sign is tiger");
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,message);

  • 10.5 Server : Standard Installation : Newbie Tutorial /  Setup Walk-Through

    Hello all,
I recently setup OS X Server 10.5 for a client after doing it many times at my home. I could not have possibly done it without the help of this discussion board so thanks to everyone asking and answering questions!
To help other server newbies easily setup Server 10.5 (as apple claims), I'm hoping to make a basic installation procedure that will always work for newbies. Right now it's not exactly "detailed" - just the basic steps to ensure success.
Below is my setup procedure that has worked well for me (especially at my house). It's for a Standard installation; and we'll be setting up the server to include Mail (local only), iChat, VPN, File Sharing, iCal, Web Server/Wiki, Apple Remote Desktop access, and Time Machine (may not work well).
Please let me know if I'm missing something that will help ensure this setup works as perfectly as possible on any system.
+to help make sure this works, try using all the names i've used below (besides perhaps user names & passwords); like "server.house"+
    *1) Setup Router*
    • ensure router is properly connected to modem/internet
    • router lan address = 10.0.2.1
    • subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
    • dhcp on
    • dhcp server starts at = 10.0.2.9
    • dhcp server ends at = 10.0.2.99
    • dns server (opendns servers) = 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 (not a completely necessary step, but may help ensure it works)
    • port forward to 10.0.2.2 = vpn (udp: 500, 4500; udp/tcp: 50)
    • port forward to 10.0.2.2 = ard (tcp: 5900, 5988; udp/tcp: 3283)
    *2) Install/Setup Server*
    • startup server computer with installation cd and start installation process
    • choose "Standard Installation"
    • setup administrator account with the following settings:
    user name: Administrator
    short name: admin
    password: admin
    • setup network settings (choose manual configuration):
    manual ip address = 10.0.2.2
    subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
    router = 10.0.2.1
    dns server = 10.0.2.2
    search domain = house
    • primary dns server = server.house
    • server name = server
+choose all the services and let installation complete; wait until desktop loads+
    Verify things are initially okay:
    • Open safari, and type "server.house" in the address bar (ensure wiki appears)
    Good, now:
    • Download latest 10.5 server combo update, install, restart.
    • Run software update until all updates are installed (may require several restarts)
    • Setup a dyndns account for your server, install dyndns software (make sure it's updating via web and the ip address doesn't start with 10.x)
    *3) Setup Server Preferences*
    • open server preferences
    • go to file sharing: turn on file sharing
    • go to vpn: turn on vpn
    shared secret = somethingsecretive
    ip address range = 10.0.2.101 - 10.0.2.199
    • go to users
    • make new user(s) with all options enabled
+you should now have all services in server preferences enabled (if not, enable them) and user names setup; for good measure, restart the computer again+
    *4) Setup Client Computers*
+make sure client computers have all software updates installed before proceeding+
    • Open system preferences: network
    • Make a new location called "Server"
    • Set TCP/IP to DHCP
    • DNS Server = 10.0.2.2
    • Search domain = house
    • Click apply
It's probably a good time to double check that the internet works - open Safari and google something. Good, it works.
There are two ways to setup the client computers to connect to the server with basically no manual configuration needed:
    First way:
Go to system preferences: accounts: select user name to associate with server: select "server account" (if available): enter appropriate info for user on server: wait a bit: restart computer
or (if "server account" isn't available):
    Second way:
Open finder: applications: utilities: directory utility. once opened, it should automatically find your server. if it doesn't, click the lock, click "plus sign", type = "open directory", server name = server.house, click ok
    • enter appropriate info to connect to server and ensure it's set to automatically setup all services, once finished - restart.
*5) If the automatic setup didn't work, here's how to manually setup the client workstations:*
    Safari
    • Open Safari and type "server.house" in the address bar, enter user/pass, make sure it connects to wiki.
    iChat
    • add new jabber account
    • jabber id = [email protected]
    • server = server.house
    • port = 5222
    • kerbos = on (you can leave off if you want)
You can test by connecting to your Jabber account
    VPN
    • open Network in system preferences
    • click lock
    • click "plus sign"
    • interface = VPN
    • vpn type = L2TP over IPSec
    • service name = server
    • server address = your dyndns address
    • click advanced
    • dns server = 10.0.2.2
    • search domain = house
    • click ok
    • click authentication
    • enter user's server password
    • enter "somethingsecretive" in "shared secret"
    • click ok - click apply
You can test by clicking "connect" - after verified, disconnect.
    _File sharing_
    • Open finder: click "Server" under "Shared"
    • If it connects as guest, click "connect as"
    • enter your server username/password
Drag a file to and from a folder to make sure file sharing works
    Mail
    • Add new mail account (imap)
    • Incoming mail server = server.house
    • Outgoing mail server = server.house
    • Outgoing authentication = kerberos 5 (or password)
    • user name = [email protected]
    • enter password
Check to make sure you get the server welcome e-mail and that you can send email to other users on the server.
*Time Machine* (very problematic at this time)
    • Open Time Machine in System Preferences
    • Click "options"
    • Eliminate as many folders as possible to keep backup times shorter; click done
    • Click "change disk"
    • Select "Server" disk; click "use for backup"
** I highly recommend using local SuperDuper! backups and/or Retrospect for networked backups to the server. Other options include the dot mac Backup application or online backups (google it).
*If you have PCs on your network that you want to be able to connect to the server for file sharing*
    • Open Windows Explorer (my computer)
    • Click tools: map network drive
    • Enter "\\server\public" (or if you setup a user account on the server for the pc user(s) i think you can use "\\server\pcusername" - and follow the next two steps)
-Click "connect using different user name"
    -Enter pc user account username/password
    • save settings
Check to make sure the drive shows up and you can move files to/from server
Helpful info for newbies setting up server 10.5:

    • Lynda's 10.5 Server Training Videos (this does cost money and I haven't personally used it, but it looks very helpful)
I hope that's a good start for people, but I'm sure some setting(s) can be tweaked or I missed something that could make this process go even more smoothly. Lets make this the definitive newbie standard installation setup tutorial.

    Hi gikku,
Good idea! I forgot about the web server port forwarding, that will allow the wiki to be seen over the internet.
One question: what does adding the dyndns address to "Server Admin > web > settings > sites" actually do? I'm not too knowledgeable about Server Admin.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • DocFlex/Javadoc 1.5.6, a multi-format doclet development tool and more

DocFlex/Javadoc is both a multi-format Javadoc Doclet and a rapid doclet development tool, which allows easy creation of professional quality Java API documentation generated by Javadoc in various output formats.
    More in this article:
    Key Features
    Availability
    This Version
    What is DocFlex?
    Main Concepts
    Other Applications
    Links
    KEY FEATURES
    Template-driven doclet architecture
    - Actual doclets are created in the form of special templates interpreted by the DocFlex Doclet, which is the template interpreter / output generator wrapped in the form of a Javadoc Doclet.
    - The high quality graphic Template Designer allows you to visually design most of things, whose development was possible so far only by direct Java coding.
    - The templates are designed independently on a particular output format. All formatting is specified in some universal way using properties of template components. During the generation, it is rendered with the suitable features available in the selected output format.
    - The elaborated support of template parameters (including multivalued list parameters). The parameters are defined and accessed within templates to adjust dynamic properties of template components. Most of options previously used to control an ordinary doclet now simply become template parameters!
    - The possibility to call templates from one another. This feature (along with the template parameters) makes possible re-using the same templates for different tasks as well as organizing template libraries.
    Data processing
    - The entire Doclet API is represented in the form of a virtual XML document (called Doclet DSM), on which the designing and processing of all templates is based.
    - Sophisticated capabilities for data querying and sorting based on an extension of XPath.
    - Full support of new Java 5.0 language features: Generic Types, Enums, Annotations.
    - Simultaneous support of Java 1.4 and Java 5.
    Creating hyperlinks
    - Generation of an extensive network of hyperlinks interconnecting the whole documentation.
    - The hyperlinks can be generated in all output formats that support them (this currently includes HTML and RTF).
    - The universal way of defining documentation cross-links based on the link/target keys specified in templates.
    - In RTF, the cross-links can be generated in the form of page number references, which effectively makes them usable even in the printed documentation.
    - In HTML, the possibility of loading several frame windows from a single hyperlink at once.
Universal support of various formatting techniques
    - text formatting: fonts, colors, borders
    - paragraph formatting: margins, pagination control, borders, colors
    - border formatting: styles (solid, double, dashed, dotted), thickness, colors
    - tables: arbitrary cell layouts, borders, nested tables
    - lists: bulleted, numbered, delimited
    - document fields (RTF): page number, number of pages, TOC, etc.
    - page formatting: size, orientation, margins, headers/footers
    - formatting styles
    - rendering of embedded HTML, which means interpreting in non-HTML output formats (such as RTF) the HTML tags embedded in text data (e.g. documentation comments). Almost all HTML tags practically usable in doc-comments are supported.
    Inserting images
    - statically specified in templates
    - dynamically, obtained by <img> tags found in Java comments
    - supported image formats: GIF, PNG, JPG, WMF, EMF, BMP
    Output formats
    - HTML (both framed multi-file and single-file output)
    - RTF (version 1.6 - supported since Word 2000).
    - TXT (plain text), which may be particularly useful for various utilizations of the Java code information provided by the Doclet API generate XML files by it, or SQL files to import into a database).
    Standard Template Set
    - The ready-to-use Standard Template Set included in all editions of DocFlex/Javadoc allows you to immediately generate:
(*) The framed HTML Java API documentation similar to that generated by the standard Javadoc.
(*) The same documentation packed in a single HTML file.
(*) The unmatched quality RTF JavaDoc.
    - Special features supported by standard templates:
(*) Excluding classes/methods/fields by custom tags and annotations.
(*) Selective omitting of package qualifiers.
(*) Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of Standard Doclet).
    - By modifying the standard templates, you can quickly customize the generated documentation according to your needs.
    Doclet GUI
    - Besides command line options, DocFlex Doclet supports an alternative user-friendly way to control the template-based doclets interactively -- the high quality Doclet GUI.
    - The Doclet GUI starts with the Generator Dialog, where you can specify all general settings (such as the main template, the output format and the output directory), start the generation, track its progress and stop at any moment you need.
    - The grid-tree-based Parameter Inspector invoked from the Generator Dialog for a selected template allows you to view the descriptions of all template parameters controlling the doclet and set their values according to the parameter data types.
    - The generator options specific for the selected output format can be set in the corresponding Format Option Inspector (also invoked from the Generator Dialog).
    - Once the generation is finished (or cancelled), you can start it again with different settings or a new main template without restarting the whole Javadoc.
    Integrations
    - With any system that runs Javadoc (in particular, see below)
    - Apache Ant
    - Apache Maven 2
    - Eclipse

    AVAILABILITY
    DocFlex/Javadoc comes in two editions:
    (1) The full edition called "DocFlex/Javadoc" as it is. This is commercial software, which includes all the implemented functionality.
    (2) The reduced freeware edition called "DocFlex/Doclet". It includes only the output generator and can be used as an interpretor of any custom templates. It also includes the standard template set, which allows you to instantly use it as an HTML doclet (similar to the standard one, however with some special features) plus an excellent quality RTF doclet.
Both editions are available for downloads on the page: [http://www.filigris.com/downloads/]
    THIS VERSION
    New features:
    - The template interpretor works 15-20% faster
    - Improvement of RTF output
    - Multi-valued (list) template parameters
    - Custom elements
    - Standard Templates: Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of standard doclet)

    WHAT IS DOCFLEX?
DocFlex is an innovative technology for development of high quality template-driven documentation/report generators by any kind of data obtained from various software applications via the Java APIs they provide.
    MAIN CONCEPTS
The whole DocFlex technology is based on four generalizations:
    (1) The mapping of an entire Java API onto a virtual XML-like representation made of some elements and attributes so as to process any such a representation in a universal way using techniques borrowed from the field of XML, like XPath (or more precisely, a conceptual analogue of XPath with some extensions not present in it).
    (2) The abstract formatting concept based on four layouts (flow of text, flow of paragraphs or paragraph-like objects, tables and lists), which can be rendered in most modern document formats (e.g. HTML, RTF, XSL-FO etc.)
    (3) The automatic generation of hyperlinks (or their page number reference equivalents) by matching the sets of keys produced from certain natural properties of the things (entities) being documented and hyper-linked.
    (4) The representation of the object controlling structure of the output generator (made on the first three principles) in the form of a plain-text template with a possibility to create and edit such templates using a graphic Template Designer, which visualizes the controlling objects (now becoming template components) in a form resembling the output they will produce.
    OTHER APPLICATIONS
In fact, DocFlex/Javadoc is not the only application of DocFlex technology. The following is a summary of other DocFlex software:
    DocFlex/XML
The SDK and runtime environment for rapid development and execution of template-driven automatic documentation/report generators by any data obtained from XML files.
This is currently the most complex and advanced application of DocFlex technology. Actually, this tool can be considered a powerful alternative to XSLT. At least, it is definitely able to do what XSLT apparently not (for example, see “XSDDoc” below). We will publish a more detailed comparison “DocFlex/XML versus XSLT” with the next DocFlex/XML release, which is coming very soon.
    DocFlex/XML home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/]
    DocFlex/XML | XSDDoc
A template set for DocFlex/XML that implements a high quality W3C XML Schema documentation generator in HTML and RTF output formats.
For more details, please see: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/xsddoc/]
    DocFlex/XML | WSDLDoc
A similar template set for DocFlex/XML that will implement a high-end WSDL documentation generator.
This product is not released yet.
    DocFlex/Together
A template-driven documentation generator for [Borland Together|http://www.borland.com/us/products/together/] (which is a UML modeling tool).
This is the earliest application of DocFlex technology and probably the most beautiful one. It works only with Together Architect 1.x, which is now obsolete. Unfortunately, since Together 2005, Borland eliminated any open APIs (for unknown reasons). Because of this, further development of DocFlex/Together was impossible.
    DocFlex/Together home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/]
See also examples of the UML documentation generated with it: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/examples/]
The future DocFlex/UML is going to generate something like this as well.
    DocFlex/UML
A template-driven UML documentation generator based on [Eclipse EMF|http://www.eclipse.org/emf/]. This tool is in early development stage yet. In a sense, it will continue DocFlex/Together with the focus on integration with other UML tools that use Eclipse EMF.

Now, DocFlex/Javadoc v1.4 has been released specifically dedicated to Linux (Mac OS X) support:
(*) Some early bugs have been fixed, which prevented it working properly under Linux.
(*) A special RTF option was introduced to generate OpenOffice.org friendly RTF (see below)
(*) Improved support for external document viewers.
(*) Now, DocFlex/Javadoc software includes the shell script files prepared to quickly install and launch it under Linux
    New RTF option
A new RTF output option "Tune output for MS Word has been introduced. This option, actually, allows switching off that very tuning (which until now was the default mode) to produce an RTF friendly to open with other non MS Word applications, e.g. OpenOffice.org Writer under Linux.

Real newbie question-I can hear the loops in my library, but when I drag them to a track, there is no audio when I playback or record.  What am I doing wrong?

You probably put Midi loops (green) on audio tracks, and audio loops (blue) on Midi tracks.
    That won´t play.

  • Binding to Active Directory Problem. I am a Newb! probably something stupid

    Hey All,
Trying to get my apple xsever to join our windows domain. I got it to bind and the user accounts show up on the machine but then it askes me to join it to the Active Directory Kerberos realm. I am confused.
what i am trying to do is joint it to the windows domain for my admin account on the actual server and then set up local user accounts on the machine so when my mac users log in they authenticate using the local mac account and not the windows domain account. Does this make sense? From what i read macs authenticate using the local account before going to the windows account which is what i want. I am a total newb to this so forgive me for the stupid questions.
    cheers all,
    jess

    Hi
set up the xserve as an Open directory Master
will it place nice on the network
with the rest of the windows servers that we have.
There should be no problem in doing this. All you need to do is decide whether you want your Mac Server to run its own DNS Service or to use the existing DNS service being provided by the AD Server. Open Directory Master requires DNS Services running somewhere.
i just want to have a mac studio of about 35 people be
kind of an island within a sea of windows users. If
there can be cross over there then fine.. but really
i want the mac to work well with the apple server and
if i can get the windows clients hooked up also then
    fine.
There should be no problem with this.
When you say studio do you mean a graphics design studio? Or are you talking about a video production studio? If the answer is yes to either one or both then perhaps a simple file server would do. An Open Directory Master is OK in this environment but your network needs to be up to job. Ideally gigabit ethernet certainly for video production and also if your studio are heavy photoshop users. You could get away with 100Base-T but with 35 heavy users editing files stored on the server as well as Home folders it may be a bit too much. If this is the situation in your studio you would be better placed working locally and saving the files back to the server at the end of the day. You would set up your users with names and passwords in the OD directory node. Your studio can use those account details to log on to the server to access share points but still work locally if they need to. If you start windows services on the mac server then there should be no reason for windows clients to access share points on the mac server as well. Be careful how you configure windows services as you already have existing PC servers on the network.
As you have already stated your aim is to keep the macs completely separate from the PCs then consider connecting all your macs to a separate switch and have them running of a different IP address range and subnet mask. You could then use an intervening router to handle traffic between the two networks, this way you control cross platform access to shared resources. If you understand networks, routers etc then you should be able to accomplish this without too much trouble. Again searching the Server forums should give you plenty of ideas and advice on the best way to achieve what you want. As ever defining and deciding what you want you want the server to do is half the problem.

  • Mac pro 2.66, 2 new seagate drives raid 0, newbie, not sure if a problem...

    Hi,
I'm a relative newbie--just got a mac pro 2.66 and added two additional seagate sata 7200.10 500 gig drives that I striped together using disk utility and set at 0. My intention? to do video and animation editing and use the additional satas to read/write my data on, as I create it (I'm planning on doing routine backups to DVD's)
My potential problem: Just to test it, I put a couple of word docs that I'm updating/writing on it. If I don't type for a while (say 15 minutes), when I do type and save, it takes a a while (maybe 30 seconds and yes, get a rolling ball) to save. After that, saving is instant. Is there a sleep issue with this? There are no systems on the striped satas. I'm using 10.47, btw.
Anybody know why? are my disks just bad? aside from the initial save problems, they're fine.
    mac pro 2.66   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I would hope it is not a firmware issue with Seagate. There have been some, and make sure your drives are set to NEVER spin-down in Energy control panel (system preferences).
That is 1TB almost of storage - to backup - and as one huge volume. It is possible to first partition the drives, then stripe like to like partitions into RAID also (if you wanted to be able to erase a volume, or keep some files separate, not everyone does).
It can also help to zero a drive first, or make sure that the drive is suitable for RAID (seems most but not all are). There have been reports here, or on Barefeats, as well as on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com about drive issues. OWC is now updating the firmware on some Seagate model drives.
