JavaFx on Linux 2.4.26/ARM9 Processor/200MHz/32MB RAM

Hi,
I am new to JavaFx technology, I would like to know whether I can have JavaFx on a Linux kernel 2.4.26 (no other commercial distribution), it is a touch screen based navigation system runs on a ARM9 processor (200MHz, 32MB RAM).
While searching, I found that JavaFx is supported on Linux platforms, but I couldn't find any reference to my particular version of Linux (Linux kernel 2.4.26). Is it possible to install and run JavaFx on this machine? Also please tell me whether standard JavaFx or JavaFx mobile is more suitable for this system.
regards
Jamsheer

I don't see this behaviour neither on the machine with intel video nor on the machine with nvidia.
No average load changes or memory usage increase. I don't have Arch kernel installed though only custom from sources.
You can find reports with increased load issues, but I never had this problem. It seems as these were related to specific hardware (AMD?) and kernel bug(?).

  • JavaFX in Linux?

    Hello,
Some months ago I decided to migrate from C# to Java.
So I decided to change others things too like from Sql Server to Postgre/Oracle
and from Windows to Linux. As I noticed I was free from Microsoft (just joke :))
    Everything was GREAT!!!!
Today I thought "I'm taking a look on JavaFX", I've got surprised! It doesn't work
    on Linux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I feel disappointed.
Does somebody know whether it will there is soon?
    Thanks

As a followup... here is the information: Credit for this is posted on the bottom from a poster on Jonathan Schwartz's blog:
    {color:#0000ff}
To those that complain that JavaFX is not available for Linux and Solaris, it is available, just unofficially. Granted, you have to jump through a fair number of hoops to get it working:
    Linux:
    http://www.weiqigao.com/blog/2008/12/04/using_javafx_1_0_on_linux.html
Solaris (I tried this myself and it works!):
    http://blogs.sun.com/observatory/entry/javafx
So those who call for Sun to release JavaFX on Linux and Solaris, please try it out.
On the other hand, Sun should be careful not to alienate its Java open source community, since it plans to open source all (or most) of JavaFX, and will definitely need a community of maintainers outside of Sun.
So Jonathan, one suggestion is that Sun could make easily installable, but clearly labelled "beta" versions of the SDK and IDE (Netbeans and Eclipse) plugins for Linux and Solaris. This should be an acceptable comprimise both for the JavaFX engineers who don't think that it's ready on those platforms, and the open source community that eagerly wants to get their hands on those tools.

  • Macbook pro 5.1 with 2.8Ghz 2 core processor 4 gb ram upgradeable?

I have a Macbook pro 5.1 with 2.8Ghz 2 core processor 4 gb ram.... is this upgradeable in terms of ram and os I currently run os x 10.6.8? ta

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have a Late 2008 MacBook Pro, so you can upgrade the RAM (up to 8 GB of RAM) and you can upgrade Mac OS X to OS X Mountain Lion.
If you want more memory, you can buy it at OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3 Crucial sells cheaper memory and it's also supported.
Respecting to OS X, you can use OS X Mountain Lion. If you want to upgrade, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps.
OS X Mavericks will be released in fall and will include new features > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview

  • JavaFX on linux

When using JavaFX on ubuntu, if I run evry prgram is gives me this warning in Netbeans Terminal
(java:....):Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in the module_path: "pixmap"
And some CSS style dose'nt apeare I don't know why.

Why can't SUN just release what they have as an EA for Linux. It is really a shame SUN does lock out all the un*x users. Why would they want to do that?
I do meet more and more good developers that have ditched Windows for either Mac or Linux. Not to many OpenSolaris folks, yet. Push OpenSolaris with releasing JavaFX EA for it :-)
Seriously, if you already have a build for that platform, put a EA stamp on it and release it. What can you loose?
If there is a lot of bugs in it that get reported there is obviously a lot of interest.

  • Which is better, faster processor or more ram?

    Hello all!
I'm planning on upgrading from my 1.33Ghz g4 ibook with 512mb of ram to a new macbook, because Logic Express 7 and Final Cut Express 3.5 don't run very well on my current system. Because of money constraints, I'm limited in what features I can afford, so I'd like some advice from other mac users. In having to choose between getting an entry level macbook with 2gb of ram, or the mid-level macbook with only 1gb of ram, which would you think might handle these two applications best?

    Hi skipgo,
    welcome to macbook forum.
I would go with the faster processor, not only the processor is fixed and not upgradeable, you also got bigger hard drive and superdrive that will be crucial for backing up big files on dvd (4 gb) or dual layer dvd (8 gb) and or burn your project into dvd from your FCE using iDVD.
And memory is tend to go cheaper each day and relatively easy to upgrade it yourself compare to built to order 2 gb memory in entry model at apple store.
And remember that apple will not accept return on BTO model just in case you decided to return it within their 14 days grace period.
    Good Luck.
ps: beat by Mike with the same advise.....

  • Faster processor or bigger ram?

    dear forum,
i asked basically the same question some days ago, but i didn't have a satisfying answer, so here i am again..
i wanna use LE on a MackBook. The question is, is it better to have a faster processor (2.0 instead 1.83) or a bigger ram (2 instead 1 Gb) ?
having both -unfortunately- is not an option, so i have to pick one.
    what should i do?
    thanx folks!

    Hey Richard,
no one is going to shout you down mate!
But if someone will, give me a call (I'm a big fellow)! :o)
We all have diferent ideias and tastes, the good thing
is to respect the other forum mates and learn from everyone,
we may not agree always, but we're here to help each other!
I've made a similar option on my laptop 1.5 GHz over the 1.65
and more Ram, almost 2 years latter I don't regret my decision.
In my opinion (nook) if you can´t go any further the 1.83 is
a very good machine, and boy, with 2Mb of ram you'll have a ball!
    Best regards,
    Jorge

  • New Processor Or More RAM?

    Hi,
I just wanted to know whether to buy a new processor or some more RAM. I am pretty sure more RAM won't help, seeing as I only have a 400mhz processor. Its just my brother wants to play runescape on it and it won't take it, it's too laggy.
    -Ollie

One trick you may try is to go to the top menu bar in your desktop and pull down: GO > Go to Folder... > and type in /var/vm/. This will take you to a directory and if you see several files with names like swapfile0, swapfile1, etc. , then you need more ram. Judging from your profile, it probably does need max ram as you're talking about running a game. Don't concern yourself too much with clock speed as the ram is of greater impact, in this particular case.
    Good luck

Anyone guys to tell me about this subject?
Hello once more,I really gave it a though and I decided:
The OS will be Windows XP x64 bit so I can use CS5 / Or Mac...
    MAIN USES:
-After Effects:It's already 3 years that I use Adobe After Effects and I really want to go to Pro with it.
I want to be able to add HD FX in HD Videos with many layers, and maybe to long movies.
-Photoshop:I am still a beginner with it,But sure in the future I want to learn some hard things.
-Of course Be able to surf on the internet.
    SECONDARY USES:
-Playing the New Games:Like Call of Duty
Thats the thing I am doing with my current PC and I am pretty sure ill be doing with the new one...
AAE and PS are the programs I use the most.
So that's my list,if you think you get what I want, please write back
    And again,Thanks for everything.

What Machine to buy so it can do the above things?I can afford around 2700$ / 2000 Euros
2000 Euros won't buy you a Mac Pro, although you could buy a 27" iMac.
You can buy a pretty decent Windows machine for that price.  There are so many variables it's impossible to give you specifics, but here's a basic guide:
Buy the best CPU you can afford.  Faster CPUs give you better overall performance.  Multiple CPU cores make rendering and previewing faster.
You need 2GB of RAM for each CPU core, and a bit extra.  So, if you buy a dual Quad core machine, giving you 8 cores, you would be wise to have 16-24GB of RAM. If you buy a single Quad core machine, with 4 cores, you need 8-16GB of RAM.
You need lots of fast hard drive space to work with HD video, so buy as much as you can afford.  Avoid "green" drives and other 5400RPM drives, which can slow down your workflow.  If you can afford it, buy two drives - one for your system files, and one for media storage.
The display card is not so important in After Effects - any midrange card will do the job nicely - but because you want to play "new games", you may want a display card with a bit more power.

  • Processor speed and RAM for Aperture? Comparing MacBook Pros.

I'm about to purchase a macbook pro and thought it best to ask people who are actually using aperture and other image editing software this question. I need to know if a boost in processor speed and video card from the 2.16 to the 2.33 MBP is noticable enough to make a difference. I'm just getting into RAW editing and my iBook can't handle aperture because of the video card, and I don't want to have any problems in the future. Is the price worth the difference?
I've tried posting in other places and have had little response, so I would appreciate it a lot considering I need to purchase today or tomorrow!

All in all, I'd recommend the 2.33 for Aperture. You'll likely keep this laptop for a 2-3 years, so what do the extra dollars give you?
The modest speed bump between 2.16 and 2.33 is OK ... Aperture will use it, esp. since there are 2 x procs. It's really 2 x 10% uplifts, theoretical. You will feel around a 5-10% improvement I suspect.
The bigger reason is the video card VRAM .... 256Mb v 128Mb. VRAM WILL BE USED BY APERTURE and cannot be upgraded later. You soon notice when your RAW's or scanned images are paged from VRAM to main memory and back. Aperture moves the image into VRAM for processing image data using the GPU. More is a good, good thing..... esp. if you ever hang a 2nd monitor off your laptop (which is very common practice).
The additional 1Gb RAM is also needed. Aperture runs like a dog with 8Mpixel plus RAW's on 1Gb RAM and really starts to cruise on 2Gb.
So, you'd need the extra Gb RAM anyway, $175 add-on. That leaves a net of $325, or less than $10/month over the life of your laptop.
All in all then, I'd recommend the 2.33 v 2.16 for Aperture.

  • Faulty Mac Pro "Red LED" on Processor Tray (not RAM LED)

    Hello.
I have a faulty Mac Po and wondering if someone can advise.
There's a red LED constantly switched on on the processor tray (see photos). It is not one of the RAM diagnostic LEDS.
The Mac Pro does not load up. It does initialise the RAM and boot up the Hard Disks.
At the same time the Graphics card fan spins very fast, and no input is detected on the display. I have removed it (in the photos) just in case it overheats.
I have plugged in the graphics card and processor tray on an identical Mac Pro and they both work fine. I have also swapped out the small button-battery fo a new one.
I have also unplugged all cables, reseated the RAM and removed any non-Apple RAM, leaving the shipped RAM in place.
If anyone has any ideas what this might be I'd be grateful for a response.
    With thanks in advance
    Lawrence
