JavaFX packager DMG shows Desktop Folder not Applications Folder

I'm using JDK 8 EA, when I generate the DMG using Netbeans 7.4 the resulting DMG shows the Desktop icon folder instead of the Applications folder. What setting can I set to generate the DMG to use the Applications folder instead of the Desktop folder?

I also have exactly the same problem. This started occurring after installing boot camp.
In Safari, the downloaded files go to the desktop. The safari download manager shows that the download is complete, yet on the desktop I only see the .download file. Clicking on the .download file causes it to disappear. However, clicking on the "show in finder" icon in the safari download manager, magically causes the downloaded file to reappear on the desktop.
I have also had a problem emptying the trash. After emptying the trash the trash icon does not change to the empty trash can. Opening the trash shows all the files, however, by clicking on them they disappear and after clickiing on all of them, they all disappeared and the trash can icon finally was empty.
This sounds very much as if some events are not being handled by the finder and the finder refreshed.

There's another "drop down" in the save window. To the right of the file name (Save As: field), if you click that arrow, it will allow you to browse to ANY folder or location on the HD to save.

Show desktop button not working

This is my only problem. I installed gnome and got everything up and running sansthe show desktop button. My windows also look a bit funky (anytime I open something I can't see the my applications, locations, and settings menus uptop).
Whenever I click the show desktop button I get:
Your window manager does not support the show desktop button or you are not running a window manager.

I figured this out, I installed metacity and everything works now.

run V/36 for your out.det.proc
goto Control and find your out.type
run V/34 for your out.type
goto Processing routings
do you have correct Form there?

Iwork 09 removed from the iwork 09 folder inthe applications folder

I installed iwork 09 from dvd and it placed a folder labled iwork 09 in the applications folder containing all 3 apps pages numbers keynote .
Question theese 3 apps allway take the longest to open untill they are cached .
I decided to remove them from the iwork 09 folder and just leave the appps in the applications folder .
amazingingly they open exteamly fast now even from a shut down machine faster than itunes iphoto even mail
is there any harm not having them in a separate folder in the aplications folder ?

Because the Mac App Store installs software in a different way. The Mac App Store will update an app anywhere on your hard drive. The mechanism it uses for this is built into OS X. However, iWork purchased on a DVD or downloaded is installed via an "Installer" application. This installer application is coded to only look for iWork in the /Applications folder. It will not look elsewhere.

This is weird. And I'd bet it has nothing to do with moving them to a different folder. I suspect it is because of a problem with the folder they're stored in or a cache file. I would also suspect that if you totally uninstalled iWork, deleted supporting cache files and reinstalled it that the apps would install just as fast.

Strange, hidden folder in Applications folder?

I was running low on disk space, so I ran Disk Inventory X and came across and hidden folder in my Applications folder called "private". I can't access it through spotlight or looking through the actual Applications folder, but there it is on Disk Inventory X, taking up almost 7GB. About 2 dozen sub folders with names like "vm" and "var" - inside are cache folders for different websites and big files named "sleepimage" and "swapfile0" - "swapfile5". Haven't run across this before. Anyone know what this is? Tell me I'm just being paranoid here.

It appears /private is in its original place, so the incidence of it under Applications would seem to be a copy.
That is has 7 GB within is a large amount of data and is unusual, but put that aside for a moment.
Just to check the system's ownership of it and also to make a comparison, issue these two commands, first one then the other and compare the results.
ls -al /private
ls -al /Applications/private
A duplicate would see identical results. I think you could delete the 'duplicate' one under Applications, and your computer should still function but doing a backup beforehand would be wise, if you have the facility to do so.
The only snag may be deleting the duplicate if it is owned by the system, otherwise known as root. I don't know if Directory X gives you the ability to delete stuff at that level.
Posting the output of those two commands back here will help in deciding how to get rid of it if you run into problems.

Apps will NOT show in my Mac Application Folder

I have just bought Creative Cloud and I have already downloaded Photoshop CC and Dream Weaver when I had the trail but now since I bought it, it won't show the apps on my desktop making me unable to access them. I hope I didn't waist $200. Please help!

My Photoshop isn't showing up in my Applications Folder OR Finder

I odered my software from my school, and they sent me a disk. Everything download and is easily found in my Applications BUT Photoshop, and Creative Suite (which is what I odered) can't NOT have photoshop on there. It has to be on my computer somewhere.
And I can't even use Finder to help me locate it. HELP!!
I need this software for school.

Why not just reinstall Photoshop from the disk? That would be the easiest solution.

Music files are stored under device folder, not Library folder

In comparing my Itunes account with my co-worker, I've discovered that my music files are all stored under "my device" (in the music section) instead of under the "Library" section for music.
How do I move my music to the correct folder structure. In it's current location (under my device which is an Iphone), I'm unable to create playlists etc. it will not let me drag any of the music from my device/music library into the playlists.
On a "weirder note" - I have 4-5 recent songs that are shown in the correct location: library / music folder. These songs work for creating a playlist etc.
How do I get my 200 other songs into this correct location?
Now that I've purchased an Ipad, I'd like to create playlists to tether onto each device.

Recover media from iPod
See this post from forum regular Zevoneer for options on moving your iPod data back to your computer. Most of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy database but as long as the media is there then the manual method mentioned towards the end should work regardless...

Why are my artist folder located in my Itunes Media folder, not Music Folder?

I recently got a new computer and moved my itunes library to this new one. Everything is working fine, but itunes just reorganized my entire library. As of a couple of days ago all my artist folders were under itunes media\music, but now all the artist folders are just in the itunes\itunes media folder. The artist folders are mixed among my mobile application and home video and podcast folders. There is still an itunes media\music folder and there are a couple of artist folders remaining in my music folder but they're all empty. My preference has 'music\itunes\itunes media' as my Media Folder location under preferences and 'keep media folder organized' and copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library' are both checkmarked. Why did it move all my artist folders out of music and into my root folder and how can I get it to move all the artst folders back to the itunes media\music folder?

Software downloads mount drive but do not show icons to drag into applications folder

I downloaded Flash this weekend and Logos 5 today. Both downloaded and the drives mounted, but the drives did not show the software package to be dragged into my application folder. In the case of Flash, the folder header was there, but the space below, where the Flash app was supposed to be was blank. In the case of Logos, when I opened the drive, the only thing visible was the arrow between the app and the shortcut to the applications folder. There was nothing to grab and drag either. Any ideas for me?

3rd party software uses all kinds of different ways to get installed.
Some provide installers you double click on inside the mounted .dmg. And to keep things interesting, different vendors use different installer utilities
Some include an Alias pointing at the Applications folder.
Some just give you the App and you figure out what to do with it (if you are lucky, these sometimes include a README file that tells you want you should do).
This is life outside the Mac App Store.

Java not showing up in Applications folder

Why is Java not showing up in my Applications folder, even though it's installed and working? I've done a search for it on the computer and nothing shows up, yet it's functioning.

After you installed the latest Oracle Java update and it erased the old Apple Java Preferences app in Utilities, it also installed a Java perfpane in System Preferences.
Should visit it so the Java Control Panel pops up and you familiarize yourself with the knobs & whistles now offered.
