JavaHelp for JDK1.1
Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the version of
JavaHelp which is JDK 1.1.7 compatible? I know it's really old, but I'm stuck with using it. I'd really appreciate any help
with this!
Sorted it out - this was the reply I got from the mailing list
The current version of JavaHelp (that is 1.1.3) should work with JDK
1.1.7. Just make sure the JFC classes (aka Swing) are in the classpath.
(You may download library "Swing 1.1.1" from http://java.sun.com/.)
However, I don't believe you will be able to run any of the demos,
including hsviewer.jar because JDK 1.1 did not support executable JAR
files.

JDBC/OCI driver for JDK1.2
Hi,
I have an evaluation copy of Oracle8 version 8.0.3.0 and
downloaded the JDBC/OCI driver for JDK1.1 (classe111.zip). The
example I used was also taken from this site, which connects to
the database and lists ename from emp, using scott/tiger.
Everything worked fine under JDK1.1 but I can't get the code to
work with JDK 1.2
Does Oracle provide a JDBC/OCI driver that will work with JAVA
1.2 or am I missing something. Please note that I am not using
Oracle8i.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Karim
nullKarim,
Openlink Software (http://www.openlinksw.com) provides JDBC 2.0
drivers in version 3.2. This version will be hitting our public
web site next week, but you can get pre-release components from
ftp://ftp.openlinksw.com/pre-3.2/index.html
The JDK 1.2 drivers are all the way at the bottom under the
Windows section.

Configuring the PATH for jdk1.3.1_01 in WindowsXP
I need help in configuring the autoexec.bat file for jdk1.3.1_01 . I am running on WindowsXP. (I used to have win 98 on my old pc that crashed and had jdk1.2.1 and working just fine) Now I have a new pc and have tried the following:
windir=C:\WINDOWS
SET winbootdir=C:\WINDOWS
SET COMSPEC=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin
SET PROMPT=$p$g
SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET TMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
When I type in C:\path ...it does not show the path I entered. I have no clue what I am doing and the instructions I printed out from sun just do not help me out at all. I really need to get this working so I can continue learning. If anyone can please straighten me out on this I would really appreciate it. Feel free to email me at [email protected]
Thanks RebaYour PATH appears to be correct. However, to verify your PATH you should be able to type the following:
c:\>echo %PATH%
This will display your PATH setting on the console. In addition, you can verify that your PATH setting is correct by typing:
c:\>java -version
If your path is set correctly, you should see something like:
java version "1.3.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode)
If, instead, you get something like:
"Bad command or file name"
Then your PATH is not configured correctly.
Hope this helps. -
JDBC for JDK1.1 connection with Oracle 8.0.5
I have a client running Oracle 8.0.5 on an NT machine. I have downloaded the 8.0.5 OCI8 and thin JDBC from Oracle web site.
Using the JdbcChecker.java sample code, I am unable to make a connection to the Oracle DB. I tested JDK1.1.8 with the new jdbc and also with the jdbc that originally came with Oracle (orant\jdbc\lib) but to no avail. I tested JDK1.2.2 with the 8.1.5 jdbc, also no luck. I compiled and ran the code each time, using
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + database, username, password);
where database is a.b.c.d:port_no:sid
The error that came out for jdk1.1.8 was:
(after printing out 'connecting...')
java.sql.SQLException: Refused: ROR=(CODE=12505) (EMFI=4)))) ....
Is there a daemon or something that is not running? I am new to Oracle but not to jdbc. My client has used Oracle a lot but not doing any java programming with it.
What am I missing here?
Thanks.Could you verify that the listener for the database is configured properly and that it is running?

Hello,
I'm trying to include JavaHelp for our web application.
Has anyone used this tool or any other tool with javascript for displaying help for web apps?
I tried to follow the browser demo that is in applet and comes with javahelp zip. It worked fine for me, but when tried to follow the same setting for the web application, I am getting this error.

I have the following call to applet:

<PARAM NAME = HELPSETURL VALUE ="AMECR/GAPIHelp.hs">
<PARAM NAME = HELPSETNAME VALUE ="GAPIHelp">
</Applet>Also, since applet approach is not that much favored, do you know if any other way to include this tool within web applications or any other tool that would do the same thing?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Yes, as long as you conform to what the HelpSet specifies you can use Servlets / JSPs.

Where to find source for jdk1.15
The applet runing inside Netscape (which runs jdk1,15) has an exception on setCursor method in Component.java. I wonder where I can get the source code for jdk1.15 so that I can see what's going on. Any idea?
Hi:
HP is aware of the drivers missing from the support pages issue and is working on resolving it.
It is affecting hundreds of notebook models.
Since I don't work for HP, I do not know when the sites will be operational again.
With the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, that has delayed things, I'm sure.
We are on the fifth day of this problem. -

UmakanthYou need a support contract to get the 1.3.1 timezone updater tool.
http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/USDST/
(1.3.1 is now EOL'ed)
Alternatively, consider upgrading to 1.3.1_19 or 1.3.1_20 which
contain the new US DST Rules.

C:\bea\wlserver6.1\samples>Right. Using WebLogic RMI proprietary implementation (t3) with 6.1 requires
1.3 on the client side. If you absolutely have to use 1.2 on the client side,
IIOP should work - I just tried this and it looks like WebLogic 6.1 implements
EJB spec interop requirements pretty well.
Jonathon Cano <[email protected]> wrote:
I saw an article saying use iiop and then deploy your beans for such. I can
get context over IIOP using jdk1.2.2 to WLS 6.1. I have not yet deployed
beans or recompiled anything to try this all the way. Does this work?
Should I proceed? or is there a gotcha?

work).

IPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0SP6 for JDK1.6 upgrade issue
I want to upgrade iPlanet Web Server 6.0 with JDK/jre 6.0. currently iPlanet Web Server 6.0 is refferring to JDK1.5.0_17 in our lab. I see following error in logs.Any ideas which state is this upgrade is valid or a resolution for the below error would be great.
I tried increasing stack size(StackSize 7168000 in magnus.conf),increasing Sun os filedescriptors and stacksize,jvm.minHeapSize=8388608 and jvm.maxHeapSize=33554432( in jvm12.conf)
Thanks in advance

curretnly i see from logs we have servicepack 6 for iplanet6.0 in my box. If i upgrade with new servicepack can i use JDK1.6? because i don't see that kind of statement with even in any of the documents. The documents only talk upto 1.4.2
secondly upgrading to newer version,I think for this we need to take new licences and is there will be a cost factor for 7.0 upgrade.Because i see the free download is only for 60 day evaluation. For upgradation i need to talk to my management for getting approval i need to atleast show them we cannot do it with the existing 6.0 server with SP6.
I use the default value intially, and i was getting the StackOverFlow error. Some sites suggested in increasing the stacksize value for remedy to StackOverFlow error. So i increased it in an increments of 1MB. And thought this would be the peak value and stopped over there. -
Support for JDk1.3+ in J2ME
Hi,
Can somebody tell me if j2ME supports all classes written using JDk1.3 and JDK1.4? I mean if we write some java classes using Jdk1.3 will they run seamlessly on a PDA or mobile device that supports the latest version of J2ME? (By seamlessly i mean that we wont have to introduce any changes in them just because some classes of jdk1.4 are not supported by J2ME...)
Tahir.I suppose that if you don't use classes that aren't supported by J2ME and are supported by JDK1.3+ you won't have a problem.
Everething Depends on the J2ME technology you are using. For example if you are using Personal Java your classes should be compatible with JDK1.2 or less.
Hope that helps... -
DST Fix for JDK1.1.3

Regards,
Arthoi changed the month to MARCH/NOVEMBER in
java.util.TimeZone.java
But the pbm is that, the change what i have made is
not in effect..
when i change time to march 11, i am getting same
time diff..
do you have any more info/idea on this.. pls...
-ArthoDude, I highly doubt anyone's going to help you hack the time zone data for an incredibly old version of java, mainly because that's a very bad idea, likely to cause more problems than it fixes. You need to seriously start thinking about migrating away from that version to a new one. Even 1.3.1_18 would be sufficient for the tz problem (1.4 would be even better, but baby steps are good).
