Jawbone + 2.2.1 = Static.   Or is it just me?

Hey, anyone being told their Jawbone 2.0 BT headset is getting periods of static since updating to 2.2.1?
It might be a coincidence, but since update callers have mentioned that I go from sounding crystal clear to hearing static.
When I mess w. the headset it goes away (so I'm inclined to think it's me) but I never had this issue before update.
Thanks for the input...

however, now i am trying to add a desktop running
windows xp to this. on the windows machine, with the
help of a tutorial from ifelix
(http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1011.html) i was able
to get to the attempt to connect to airport network.
however it never connected, only showed a low/no
signal and would not connect.
Are you using encryption?

  • Workaround for not having a static IP address? Just need to VPN into server

I work from home, and so do my partners. I recently bought a mac mini server, so that we will have 1 central computer where all the projects are stored. Now with me being a mobileme user, I of course have access to it no matter where I go. But for my partners, I need to provide them with VPN access so they can get to/store files on the server.
In order to do that, of course, I'm going to need a static IP address. Problem is, mediacom (worst service imaginable for ISP) won't provide a static IP address unless I upgrade to a business account. No thanks, dont feel like spending $80+ for only needing the static IP.
So I guess my question is this: Is there a way to get around using a static IP address? Any 3rd party software solutions, online services, etc available to me? I consider myself a novice, as I'm being forced into the position of being the "expert" on this now.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Noah

You need to use a dynamic DNS service. Check out http://www.dyndns.com for their free service. Others exist. Use Google and search for dynamic DNS. This will keep your host name in line with your changing IP address.
    Hope this helps

  • Global static variable. I just CANNOT get global for everything

    Hi,
I copied a connection pool example from oracle web site. It uses static variable. Its not a servlet, its a javabean. I can run a million times in one session and everything is great. If I open up another session, it creates another instance and creates more connections when it should be seeing the previous instance.
My question is how to make a static variable global to the entire application? Do i have to initialize it in the servlet container? All im doing is calling a JSP page which calls this bean. If instance is null, create 5 new connections. Well like i stated above, it works for a single session. It appears that each session gets its own instance. I have been working and debugging this for a long time and I just cannot come up with a solution...
    Any ideas???
    Thanks as always

Declar it as static within the servlet class.
    public class MyServlet extends HttpServlet {
    public static ConnectionPool pool;
Then you can access it from any JSP/Servlet using MyServlet.pool but you may have to import the class into the JSP/Servlet.
Be aware that there may be synchroniztion issues when you access this static object so you may want to synchronize access to the pool.
      synchronized (application) {
           if (MyServlet.pool == null) { //initialize pool code here }

  • Is there ANY way to have a static widget over the top of a question slide?

I have a popup reference widget that I made and put it in a master slide and set it to ply on top, BUT if I add it to a question slide, the text from the question shows over it.
Any way to have a widget always be on the absolute top?
Click on the MSDS tab at bottom reveals popup, but the question text appears over the widget even though it is in a master slide set to shop on top.
    Ideas?

Once your widget is on the slide, it has complete control over the display tree. So what you can do is to move up the parent hierarchy until you find the slide (parent.parent.parent) and then re-parent yourselft or you popup window on top of the hierarchy by just calling addChild(). That works well for the static widgets. You just need to deal with the position being different on the slide so you'll have to juggle with localToGlobal() and globalToLocal().

  • HH4 and static IP addresses on home network

I want to assign a static IP outside the DHCP range to a server on my home network. I know I've done this in the past as I already have another server on the network which the HH4 recognises as having a static IP (and not in the DHCP range) but I can't for the life of me remember how to do it now.
I do recall that it wasn't obvious last time, but I've looked repeatedly through the HH config options and can't find it. The only place that looks likely is the Device Information page, where if "IP address assignment" is DHCP then you can select "Always use this IP address" and type an IP address, but only addresses within the DHCP range are accepted (this is reasonable). But there seems no way to provide a non-DHCP address.
I've read elsewhere that I should allocate the static IP on the device itself, but this doesn't work - while the device is able to connect to the LAN and can ping/can be pinged by other devices, the HH doesn't recognise the device and it's unable to connect to the internet.
I've constantly been frustrated by the non-standard interface of the HH4, and the fact that BT will provide little information on how to configure it (no manual is available). I called BT just hours ago to ask their tech support the same question I'm asking here, and their response was that "they don't have that information". When I said I was amazed that they don't know how to support their own hardware, they replied that it came ready configured and I shouldn't need to change it. Unbelievable. I was invited to subscribe to their tech expert support for £8 per month to get the answer, so I suspect that the claimed ignorance is just a revenue-earning opportunity.
Anyhow, any help will be very welcome.

Hmm, as far as I'm concerned the only 'true' static address is one configured on the device itself. Anything else is a non-changing dynamic address which is still at the mercy of the router dishing it out correctly.
That's a fair point. Perhaps I'm not used to routers (or just never used the feature) that allow "sticky" allocations within the DHCP range. So I see (saw?) DHCP and non-DHCP addresses as different.
However, I have to admit to feel a bit stupid at this point. I've just looked at the HH display and now I can see my device in all its static glory! This is after a number of days of testing and experimentation and getting nowhere (and before you ask, yes, regular refreshing). It's puzzling - perhaps it takes time for the HH to pick up a static allocation and I just didn't give it long enough.
So it does appear to be working now. I can confirm that your advice of just defining the address on the device is the way to go, and eventually the HH will recognise it.

  • Problem with OSB 11g - Unable to call non-static java methods

I have a problem in OSB. Unable to see any java methods when loading java callout. I have checked the java classes in the .jar file and they are all non-static java methods.
Is there any way where OSB is able to see this non-static java methods?
    Need help urgently!
    Thanks!

Technical standpoint: Do you know why OSB is not able to call non-static methods?
This is by design. Ability to call non-static methods require Object creation which adds additional complexity. eg How to pass variables in constructor?. How/where to store created object for use across across pipeline instance?. Object life cycle (when and how to create object) etc. To avoid above complexites static methods are only supported.
"a lot of non-static method to call" just for my understanding what are the number involved?. If number is too high you can always request for a enhancement.
    Thanks

  • Static IP Assignment Not Working With Hostname Entry on Client Machines

    Hello:
I'm working through the Oreilly OSX Server book to get my server skills up and, hopefully, to prep for the certification exam. I'm running into a weird little problem though. I have gone through the forums here and I've checked other resources for Mac help and nothing matches the problem I've found.
I have the latest versions of everything (10.4.9), I've set up the static IP assignments in the Server Admin application, and everything is assigned as desired so long as I don't have any entry in the DHCP Client ID window in the client's Network Control Panel. If I don't have an ID there the Clients panel in Server Admin doesn't show the connection.
I do plan to do a local DNS as well and I'm suspecting this might be another piece of my uncompleted puzzle but I'm not sure. It just seems terribly weird that a client ID would change a MAC Address specific ip assignment, DNS or not.
I'm also curious, as a secondary and substantially less important issue, is there a way to flush out the DHCP list for clients that are no longer connected?
    Thank you for your time.
G4 Tower as Server   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You are correct about an entry in the client ID field disabling static ip assignment. I've no idea why this is as I have not found any relation between this and bootpd's static assignment method (in 'man bootpd' at least).
A local DNS does not seem to affect anything in bootpd. Indeed, you can forget about any thoughts of combining named & bootpd (e.g., getting bootpd to dynamically update ip addresses for hostnames in the dns zone files).
/var/db/dhcpd_leases contains all leases handed out from the dynamic pool. You can safely (in my experience) delete the whole file or individual entries. The IP addresses are stored there even after the lease has expired (hence increasing number of "Current DHCP Clients" in the Overview pane). However, this behaviour of bootpd seems to allow 'virtual' static IPs, even if the lease time is short, as bootpd will still try to re-assign the same IP at every opportunity, using the expired info in this file. From the bootpd man page...
The server tries to give the same address back to a client by remembering
the binding even after it has expired. The server removes an expired
lease entry only when it runs out of addresses, and needs to reclaim an
address in order to fulfill a new request.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man8/bootpd.8 .html
Static mappings are stored in the local netinfo database (not dhcpd_leases file) and can be viewed there under 'machines' in Netinfo Manager or with Workgroup Manager's 'All Records' inspector. Bootpd stores most of its own setup info in netinfo and looks there first when an IP address is requested. Which brings us back to your question... why doesn't it find a relevant static mapping in netinfo just because there is something in the client ID field?

  • Something is shaking and static-y :(

Since yesterday I noticed my MBP making some odd sounds. First I heard some static from the sound just before I'd play a song and that'll be the only time I notice it as if somethings damaged with the sound or something. It still plays music clear and fine, but I was just wondering if this was a warning flag.
And also I heard some odd static sounds that were clearly coming from the computer itself as well. I tried shift my position and figuring out if it were anything that was near it causing the sound, but no luck. I haven't gotten any static this morning.
Did I damaged the speakers permanently?
(I was playing Call of Duty like a mad man over the last few days if that matters :P ... i know now not to do that )

Playing call of wild or anything else will not damage your speakers or your sound system.

  • Attaching dynamic movie clips in a static moviclip

I have a problem regarding attahing these movieclips(images)
to a label (movieclip) on the stage and when i will move label the
all images shoild move with label which attched to that label , i
have tried lot through hit test but not working because i have lots
of dynamic movieclips(images) and how to attach these movieclips on
the label movieclip which is static movieclip in my case do u have
any sample or any question regarding this ??? pl help me out .
    Thnx

In as2, you can't dynamically alter the parent - child
    relationships of movieclips.
When you mean a 'static' movieclip do you just mean one
that's not attached at runtime... I'm assuming its still a
movieclip ...e.g. its not for example 'static text'. just checking.
So long as it is ... here's how I would try to do it:
have each label clip contain an array of 'linked' image
clips. Whenever you move the label clip then have the event or
enterFrame handler for that label clip loop through the array of
'linked' clips and move them by the same x and y values. I think
this would work - its the way I would try to do it anyhow. Others
    may have a better idea.
This approach would be more complicated if there was
different scaling or rotation etc applied to the container clips of
    the images or the labels.

  • Static IP Address / Xbox360

    Hi all,
I've been told it is best to assign a Static IP iaddress to my XBOX because my XBOX fails when running the connection test at IP address everytime.  I have 2 computers and one XBOX360 running directly to the wireless router via ethernet cable and one XBOX360 (the one I am asking questions about) that has a XBOX360 Wireless adapter that will obviously connect through the wireless network with any luck.
How do I generate the Static IP address?  I don't want my main network computer to have a static IP assignment, just the XBOX.  So I gather when I figure out what Static IP to use, I only enter it into the XBOX and maybe router configuration under Applications and Gaming?
Next question, Portforward.com indicates that I have to turn off my firewall to forward ports, is that correct?
Message Edited by tbassngal on 01-14-2008 10:09 AM

To setup a static IP address you just have to change the wireless adapter on the xbox to manual instead of automatic. Then just choose an address that falls inside the range allowed on your router but that wouldn't be assigned to anything else.
To forward ports you do not have to turn off your firewall, instead just configure your firewall to allow communication on those ports. You may also have to allow access to certain ports on your router or setup that machine as DMZ if your trying to access those ports outside your intranet.

  • Static methods. Why?

I understand what static means, and that each class has only ONE copy of its static variables and methods.
I an see the benefits of using static variables, but i cant seem to get my head round the benefits of using static methods.
What is the advantage of this, and is there a common situation where they are appropriate? (not main)
    Cheers

I don't think static exists to prevent namespace conflicts. I think that the reason for static to exist is just as I described it: When you've got some task that is appropriate to be performed by a specific class, but that doesn't make sense to be associated with a particular instance of that class.
For example, String.valueOf. It's appropriate for the String class to have a method that returns the String representation of anything you feed to it (so it's in the String class) but it doesn't make sense for that method to be associated with a particular instance of String (so it's static). After all, you don't yet have a String to operate on--you're producing the String.
Which raises another interesting point: I wonder what the design decision was that led to
    String.valueOf(int)
    String.valueOf(long)
    String.valueOf(Object)
    etc.
    instead of
    new String(int)
    new String(long)
    newString(Object)
    etc.
I've used both patterns in my own work, but I don't really have any good criteria for picking one over the other.
One thing that comes to mind for the general case is that with the static method, you can return a subclass, which you can't do with a constructor. Conversely, with a constructor, the caller knows exactly which class he'll get, whereas with a static method he doesn't. Of course, these points don't apply to String, as it's final.
I'm new to java, but as far as I can tell, "static"
means "global". The reason for having them in classes
is mainly to prevent name conflicts. For instance,
you could have an Array object, and a List object, and
both could have sort() methods, but they may be very
different types of methods. By forcing sort() to be a
member of a class, instead of a global identifier, you
have Array.sort() and List.sort(), which is much
    safer.
It seems that the java designers went to great lengths
to make sure there are no namespace conflicts in the
language. Maybe they even went a bit too far in this
    sometimes.

  • Static context error, nothing declared static, new instance isn't working

I'm trying to get the IP address of a user using my applet. Nothing in my code is declared static.
InetAddress IP = InetAddress.getAddress();I get non-static method getAddress cannot be referenced from a static context.
I just read on another post with someone having a similar but not identical problem and someone replied saying you need to create a new instance. So I tried this:
    InetAddress IP = new InetAddress();
//IP.getAddress();With this, I get the error: InetAddress(); is not public in java.net.InetAddress; cannot be accessed from an outside package
What can I do? It's probably something simple.
If you need code just ask, there's just alot of code and it might take awhile to recreate it.

If you need code just ask, there's just alot of code
and it might take awhile to recreate it.In your first try the method you attempted to use can only be used in an instant of an InetAddress ie. ip.getAddress(). Therefore the compiler thought you were trying to call a static method that was really an instance method. On your second try you used the contructor of InetAddress which isn't public, so you can't use it. To make an InetAddress use any of the static methods of the InetAddress, which can be found at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/java/net/InetAddress.html

  • Dynamic file request to appserver and static file request to webserver

Can we redirect dynamic file request to appserver and static file request to webserver in any application and
what are the best way to do it ?
Waiting for the best suggestions ?

when you have a large number of images/css/javascript/static(html/pdf/doc) files. It takes some of the processing load from your app server and also reduces the network traffic (otherwise traffic must flow between webserver and weblogic as well). it is also reasonably trivial to configure cache/modification/etags headers from a webserver and they are probably more featured than a weblogic server (e.g. to turn on gzip for static files dynamic is just a setting in the webserver but probably needs a custom filter developed in weblogic).
Again this applies if you already have a webserver (normally because your firewall policy dictates this approach). If you are considering whether to have a webserver at all then there are different considerations.

  • Web archives and static content

Most (at least all that I have seen) of the documentation
and discussions surrounding Web Archives seem to assume that
the web applications static content (images, ..etc) will always
    reside within the WAR.
If your application contains a large amount of static content,
and your intendend operating environment involves the
webserver seperated from the application server, the
resulting network traffic between the webserver and
application server could be excessive due to the
    large amount of static content.
Is there any documentation discussing the placement of
the static content on the webserver within an
    (web archive based) Web Application
    (specifically, application design considerations)?
    Is this even possible?

You should be able to put the static content anywhere and just refer to it by it's absolute URL (as opposed to relative URL).

  • What is static class ?

    I know about static function.
    What is static class?
What is the use of static class?
how can i use static class.?
Give me a  static class example?

Static class and singleton are similar but they are not the same. A singleton is instantiated, and you have a reference to it - just one single reference no matter how many times you instantiate it. Singletons are good for data storage, config settings, loggers things that you may need all around your application, but you always want the same one.
A static class is not instantiated - an example of this is Flash's Math class. You can just do Math.sin() and get a result, you don't instantiate it in order to use it. Static classes are good for utility classes... essentially they are simply a namespace for a group of methods.
Oh, and you said you know about static function - what is static class - a static class then is just one that contains only static functions/methods.
