JAWS reader not reading Project Description in Captivate 7

Hi, all--
I've created a short Captivate 7 movie (htm/swf) that I am testing in JAWS 13.  While JAWS reads the Project Title (which ends up as the <title> tag text in the HTML - that's what JAWS reads), it is not reading the Project Description.  I would very much like for the user to be able to access the project description before deciding whether or not to run the movie.
A few details:
I have Enable Accessibility checked.
I have Auto Play unchecked.
Published as SWF, Flash 10.  Tried Flash 11 as well but no change.
I am running in IE 8 with Flash Player 11.
Some observations:
JAWS is reading the individual slide descriptions, as well as captions and buttons.  All of that is working as expected.
I have removed the slide description on the first slide in case that conflicts with the project description.  No change.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance!
Ann

Hi, Haridoss--
Yes, that is exactly the field that I filled in and expected JAWS to read, but I am finding, as you stated, that it will not.
Very disappointing since the Adobe accessibility web site recommends filling in the movie description:
Provide descriptions for movies and slides
Adobe Captivate allows you to easily provide text descriptions for your simulations. These descriptions provide details about the movie or slide to users of screen readers and other assistive technology.
Adding a description to an Adobe Captivate movie
Every movie created in Adobe Captivate should include a movie description. For demonstrations that are short or that rely heavily on the mouse and are thus irrelevant to screen reader users, the movie description alone will suffice. Longer movies should provide a description including a content overview and context for the user, along with individual slide descriptions where necessary. (The steps then describe how to add a movie description Edit -> Preferences -> Project -> Info -> Description.)
I'll just have to edit the published HTML and add my own description.
Thanks

My brother uses Jaws, a braille device to read his computer and Iphone.  Jaws does not read a .pdf but it will read a .doc.  What do you suggest?

PDFs are notorious for being difficult to navigate with a screen reader, because nearly all PDFs are either not remediated for accessibility or poorly remediated. Hopefully that landscape is changing with the proposed new 508 rules, which substantially raise the bar for high quality document accessibility and hopefully will have some legal teeth. Still, JAWS should at least attempt to read any PDF that is not image-only. It should infer the tags if no tags are present. I am not at all familiar with JAWS but it sounds to me like the software may not be configured properly for reading PDFs. The JAWS company Freedom Scientific may be able to help, or posting in a JAWS support forum may yield useful information, or maybe a JAWS expert will chime in here. Sorry I am not able to be of help.

  • JAWS Screen Reader Not Reading

I am in the process of developing a online flash module for a client and have been having some problems with the screen reader actually reading the text on the screen. The text is in a classic dynamic text field. The field is covered by a number of layers of text and graphics and is not in a movie clip. Accessibility properties for the field have been enabled. Accessibility active returns true but nothing is being read. Is there something else that needs to be done? Any assistance that could be offered would be very much appreciated.

  • Card reader not reading

I have a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro. My SD card reader is not reading the SD card from my camara.
    Please help!

Buy an external card reader that connect by USB. The one inside your Mac has failed and the only way to fix it is to replace the logic board.

  • IPad SD card reader not reading JPGS from Canon 5dIII

Have a brand new iPad (retina) and the SD to lighting connector.
When I insert a Lexar Professional 16GB 400x SD card with images from my Canon 5DIII, iPad opens the Photo app and I can see the thumbnails, however when I try to import, instead of a green icon with a check mark, I get a red one with an exclamation point (an error). The photos are not imported.
I used the same SD card in my Canon G12 and images from that camera import just fine. When I reduce the resolution on the 5DIII, the images import fine.
I have read there is a 32GB limit on the size of teh SD card, but I suppose there must also be a limit on individual file sizes as well. If so, I cannot find it documented.
Does anyone know if this is the case?

In the past I've copied MP4 films via an SD card with the kit and been able to play them, but a film bought from iTunes didn't play (you can't copy content to the Videos app via the kit, only to the Photos app). Also the kit only recognises content that is in a particular format - the card has to have a DCIM directory off its root, with the photos/videos underneath it with filenames exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus file extension.

  • SD reader not reading my SD card

I have a Toshiba Satellite p875-s7200 running windows 7 home premium x64.  It has a built in SD slot and when i put my SD card in nothing happens.  I looked in my computer and nothing is there.  I looked in device manager and nothing is there either.  I have tried different SD cards and none has worked.  It says in the manual that this latop does support SDHC cards.  SD cards has worked in it before.  I tried the same SD cards in an older laptop and they have worked.

The gold standard for determining whether or not a problem is being caused by software is to perform a system recovery, which reverts to the original factory software installation.
The knowledge base article at http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Recovery-Options-Creating-or/ta-p/268269 has all the details about how to do that.

If you had the reader installed professionally, then I would call the installer to have them check on their work.  Prior to that you should check to see that the reader is plugged into a working outlet and that it is showing as working in the system.

  • Media card reader not reading in usb port

Usb problems? or is something set wrong? any thoughts?

Did you ever get your issue resolved? I'm having the same problem using a Targus card reader. I have used it for over a year. It has worked perfectly until the last few weeks. Today, we purchased another card reader. Iphoto still will not recognize it.

  • SD Card reader not reading SD Cards

Hey there, its me again. Yesterday I tried the card reader that is built into the laptop yesterday, and to my disappointment, it simply didn't work. I push the card in, and after I hear the click, it sits in the slot how it is supposed to. The light comes on for about a second, then shuts off right away. I've tried in Windows 7 64 bit and Windows xp 64 bit, and neither one responded despite having the right drivers and everything.
Any ideas, or was this just poor design, like the rest of the machine?

  • JAWS does not always read  Swing menus

I have come across a problem that involves JAWS 4.51 and Java menus in Internet Explorer.
I have a Java application that has a JMenuBar. The menu bar contains several JMenus that in turn contain several JMenuItems.
When navigating through a menu, JAWS reads every JMenuItem. However, once a disabled JMenuItem is reached, JAWS no longer reads the JMenuItems below the disabled one in the open JMenu.
The problem occurs only in Internet Explorer on "plain" menu items that follow a disabled menu item. The problem does not affect "complex" menu items, such as those that open sub menus.
I can only reproduce this problem in Internet Explorer 6. Netscape Communicator 7, Web Start clients and a command line launch do not suffer from this problem. Also, JAWS 4.02 is fine as well; only 4.51 has this problem.
Attached at the end is a sample application that recreates the issue. You'll notice in the sample application that JAWS will not read "A check box menu item" and "Another one" while it will read "A submenu."
Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks a lot!

    </html>

Unfortunately the menu items are fully accessible (or so our internal accessibility tool claims). It doesn't seem to be a problem on that level, but I was hoping that perhaps something else was interfeering.
As for the JTable reading the previous cell, I've notice that it reads the last non-empty cell (regardless of whether it was the previous cell or not) when clicking or moving with the arrow keys to an empty cell. It works fine when clicking or moving to non-empty cells.
I don't have any empty cells in the actual application so I did not try to fix it. My suspicions are that either an event is not being fired or the selection position is not being updated on the empty cells.

  • My current version adobe reader is not reading pdf's on my mac

Why would my adobe reader not "read" my pdf's on my mac?  It just stopped a couple of days ago.  It works on my PC, and on adobe online, so it's not the documents.

I actually deleted my app and downloaded it again today.  So the recent
version whatever it is.  I have iMac Lion 10.7.5? (on Lenovo laptop now).
early 2011 model without airplay mirroring so didn't update to Mountain
Lion and I heard recent free Maverick update has bugs so didn't update to
    that either.

  • Opening Captivate 4 project in 5 adds to slide notes, read by TTS

I have a project that was started in Captivate 4, and when I open it in Captivate 5, it does the conversion and introduces &#x0A; in the slide notes which the TTS speech egnine reads.
First, any ideas on why this would be happening, how to prevent it?
Second, is there a way to do a seach and replace within the slide notes? The regular Find and Replace dialog doesn't show a Search In option for notes.

    all,
I actually found the answer to my own question, in a way.
One of my projects apparently was corrupt an it was causing the issue with the disappearing notes. However, after rebooting my computer, clearing the Adobe Captivate Cached Projects, I opened a different project in Adobe Captivate 5, and all the notes were in place. After a while, I figured that as long as I don't open the corrupt file, my notes remain in place. I had to recreate the corrupt file though and save it with a different name.
I also noticed that the files are more likely to get corrupted if they are long (over 70-80 slides long) or if they have a lot of animations (really a lot).
As for the people using Captivate 3.... You may be used to Captivate 3 and it may be hard to switch software, but Captivate 5 is a lot more powerful and has a lot less issues than Captivate 3 ever did. I would reconsider, if I were you...
Sometimes, simply republishing a project helps...
If the "stop" button is a problem, I'd copy all the slides (in the source file) to a fresh new project, except for the one with the stop button; and then I would try to recreate the button that causes the issue, save and republish the new project.

    Hi everybody
I am using Adobe Premiere CS4 on my MacBook Pro 15'' (i5 processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB Harddisc, 256 MB video memory (high-clockspeed))
Everything works well except of one big thing, every time when i try to export my finished project the Media Encoder tells me always the same thing directly after pushing the start button. 'Could not read from the sorce. Please check if it has been removed or deleted'.
I tried removing any offending plugins, i fixed the disk permissions.. But it all doesnt matter anything.
No matter what i try to export, no matter in what file format. It just doesnt work. I even tried exporting a project which only contains a video file of 5 seconds without anything more but it just doesnt work. Its impossible that i have touched or modified or replaced any source files...
Some help would be very very appreciated!!
