JAWS reading instant messages

Hi everyone,
I am working on a Java-based messenger client which inteds to be accessible for the blind. I am developing the app under the latest version of JDK, installed and tested properly JavaAccessBridge and everything seems to work fine.
I've come to consider the next issue: If JAWS (or most screen readers) use the focus as the handler from which the screen readers knows where the user is and speaks out the info related to that particular component... what about the information that shows up by the program dinamically?
Or said in other words, If I want to send a notification to a blind user through my application (Like a text message from another person in a common messenger program), how could I notificate JAWS that it must read the message aloud?
I cannot change the focus to the component containing the message because it definitely interferes with the user actions, not even for a short period of time.
Any suggestions would be really welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

I imagine you have more than likely changed your text colour(color) to white.
I have not been able to reproduce your issue in tools>options.
This is very similar to another thread thoug:

I recommend following those instructions.

  • Is there any way to organize instant messages?

Today's generation, including our children, loves instant messaging. From my point of view, it has significant drawbacks. Why? Because it quickly becomes disorganized. Messages, photos, and other information is all in a jumbled stream. By contrast, email messages can easily be organized into folders and retrieved months or years later. Searching through email (or separate email folders) is a breeze. By contrast, finding something in instant messages (including wonderful photos) that is a week old, a month old, a year old, eludes me.
The other beauty of email is that when a message arrives by email, the recipient can keep it in his or her inbox as a constant reminder that it needs to be dealt with before filing it away in a more hidden location (an email folder). Instant messages, by contrast, pile up over time (often with a recipient in my generation not even recognizing that one has arrived) and there is no way to keep the significant action items visible while filing away the others.
Does anyone know of any tips or apps that might impose order on instant messages? If so, I suspect other members of my generation would be grateful to know about them. I feel foolish enough about asking this question that I wish Apple didn't require me to use my real name. :-)

Thanks Kilgore-Trout (love your name and love Breakfast of Champions). That is indeed the problem. Some day I hope these two tools will converge so that the recipient may easily move an occasional important instant message to email to establish permanence. Current methods for doing that are so primitive as to be useless.

  • How can I get my instant message icon to open? Seems to be stuck.

I wrote several instant messages this morning on my AirMac. No problem. Went back to read and respond to new IM, but IM icon will not open. If the IM comes in when I am on the computer, I can read it in the upper right hand corner of my MacBook Air before it goes away, but I cannot respond. Can anyone tell me how to open the Instant Message icon?

Try clicking on the apple symbol at the top left of the screen and chosing "Force Quit" and then close IM.
Once its closed it should reopen without a problem

  • Nokia 6300 - Instant Messaging icon/functionality ...

    Hi everybody,
I'm from Canada, and just bought a Nokia 6300 brand new a few days ago. This morning, I went on my phone to change the wallpaper, and for a second, the phone blinked and changed back to the default provider theme. I then changed back the wallpaper, but when I go into the menu, my instant messaging icon is not there anymore. Obviously, restarting the phone didn't solve the problem.
I don't know if anybody got this problem before. I've seen other functionalities missing like Calculator and Email and such, so maybe it's a software fault. Anyone can advise how to fix this problem? Is this a good phone or I just see the problems with it?
My firmware version is 4.71 28/02/2007.
Thanks in advance for your help.

It seems like your phones software has gone a bit corrupted. Please update it with the Nokia Software Updater. This should solve your problem, if not then you need to take the phone to a Nokia Service Center.

  • I Need Information about  Open Source Java Client/Server Instant Messaging

I need your valuable help and collaboration with the following issue:
I need to know where can find a robust Open Source Java Instant Messaging Client/Server Application.
I thank in advance for their valuable time. And for the attention and the collaboration lent to me.

I was going to mention that right off, but since the OP is clearly unaware of the search engines on the Web, I thought I'd give him a hand. Jabber works pretty good - I tried it a while back and some of the clients were ... quirky.

  • In yahoo mail, I cannot use the instant message or SMS features after upgrading to the latest version of fire fox.

I'm unable to use the Instant message or SMS features within my yahoo email account. I've tried re-installing a new version of fire fox- ( had to use internet explorer to get online , I am able to use all of yahoos features including email messenger in internet explorer but I prefer fire fox) - still re installing fire fox did not solve the problem.

    Hi,
It has been solved in Firefox 10 which is due for release in the next few days. In the meantime you can also try Firefox 10 beta: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/
Please see [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=713014 this] for the details. Comment 7 has a workaround for Firefox 9 that is applicable to the SMS window as well. You may have to toggle between the two options.

  • My instant messages are not being recognized after update

After I did the latest update, some of my instant message are not coming up with the person's name from my contacts, rather, just the phone number is showing up.

Try resetting the SMC and pram
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    To reset PRAM/NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Instant messages are not received

Instant messages can't be received to contacts that are online. The status for these contacts is changing until the message is not received (offline-online although the contact is always online). When the contact writes your smth, the message is delivered. It happens on the latest skype version and on the beta version too. I also tried to remove the skype and clean up the register and install the beta version only after that.

Lync is aware of active conversations. This is how it works:
You are signed in to three different endpoints (let's say A,B & C)
someone sends you an IM, you'll get a notification on each endpoint
You decide to answer on endpoint B
Each consecutive IM between those 2 endpoints will only be send to endpoint B.
Only when someone in the conversation closes the IM (or it timed out) and the other party sends a new IM, a new popup toast is shown on all devices.
In point 4 it's very normal that Lync only sends to endpoint B since it know's you're active there. I would consider it annoying if a conversation I already had is also opened on a different endpoint. You would close it anyway....  If you want to continue
the conversation, you go to Outlook conversation history (in your Exchange mailbox) and continue the conversation from there so the other party gets contextual information.
Once the conversation is closed or timed out (point 5), Lync is not sure on which device you are so it send a new toast to every signed in endpoint. It could be that you changed PC or switched to mobile in between.
That's how it works and this behavior cannot be changed. I actually think it works fantastic.

My Lync 2013 deployment doesn't work like that. If I'm signed in on three devices (my work PC, my phone, and my home PC), I never know which of the 3 a new IM will come in on. It seems to randomly choose it.

  • Cant find instant message on my mac book pro

im running snowleopard on my mac book pro and i cant acess or find my instant messaging, no icon, and cant find it in finder or anywhere??? i bought it in 2011, its actually my sisters, my 2009 MBP works fine, any answers out there?

In answer to your second question, it wouldn't matter much on your sister's MBP, as Snow Leopard doesn't support iCloud for messaging (or for much of anything, though you can force a few things). Her iChat is limited to AIM instant messaging and such.
On your MBP, which according to your profile is running Lion (10.7.5), you also won't have access to iCloud messaging (iMessage) unless you installed the beta-test iMessages application and somehow kept it running. (I have heard it can no longer be installed and may no longer work at all. That's third-hand; I haven't tried it.) Your iChat will also be limited to AIM and such.
For those with iMessage-capable phones and computers, there is a choice to be made. Apple's apparent concept for iCloud would suggest that you would use a single iCloud account for all of the devices you individually own or use. (I do that; my wife does also, with her own ID.) That model works well when, for example, you want to receive all the same iMessages on all of your devices. Even if you don't, there are ways to keep them separate (e.g., use the phone number to send/receive iMessages on your iPhone while using an email address on the MBP).

  • How to use instant messaging

how can i use instant messaging with other iphone just like blackberry messaging

At this time, there is no instant messenger application as Wright explained. Apple has not devouted to adding an instant messenger system nor widgets to the iOS, except by SMS and FaceTime.
You can download many instant messenger programs in use for the iPhone. Most of which are free. There are also group messenger programs that you can record your instant messengers within.
Palringo, eBuddy, Skype, AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Google, and many more keywords can be used on the App Store.

  • HELP: can connect to FB, TWITTER, MySPACE, BBM and other instant messaging but not to youtube and other sites

I'm just a newbie. I got my Curve 9220 a month ago. The phone is really good but i have some problems regarding my about phone. You see i can access my social sites and application and can be done in my web browser but strangely i can't connect to other sites except those mentioned sites. I can use my bbm and some instant messaging applications (YM, Gtalk etc) but unfortunately not my bb app world.
By the way my carrier is globe, I have called them about this matter, they told me they have fix it but until now nothing happens. It's frustrating you know?
Is there a way that I could do it manually by my self? Or should I call them again until they have got my problem fixed?
Additionally, its odd because I can't even go to thier mobile website. How this could happen when I'm not restricted to access my social site?

In addition to this, I can send and receive emails.. hope you can help me.
