JBL Creature Speakers Question

I was not sure where to go with this question. Hopefully someone can offer advice in this forum. I use the above speakers. Within the last few weeks I notice that everytime the a/c comes on or sometimes even when you turn on a light you can hear a "pop" in the speakers. Could there be a short? Is it safe to leave them hooked up to my iMac? I have had them for about four years and this has not happened before. I do not want them to damage the computer in any way.

Interesting.
I use a very old but trusted stereo system. connected from phono to jack. When I full screen in Quicktime I get a static POP. I used to have the creature speakers, But this popping (which i'm assuming) ruined my left speaker. which made the whole stereo obsolete & I have one back to my old skool set.
I have no diagnostic, but be careful.

  • VERY BAD SOUND: MacBook Pro (unibody) with external JBL Creature speakers

Recently I've bought myself a brand new Mac Book Pro. I'm very happy with my new laptop, but I can't say that about the audio-output quality my new MacBook Pro delivers in combination with my existing external JBL Creature speaker set. In the recent past this speaker set was attached to my old iMac 17" flat, which delivered supreme music quality, but now in combination with my by far more superiour new MacBook Pro, the music sounds very disturbed with a background noise and it seems that the speakers do get to much power/signal - but still the music sounds very far away and the more I pump the volume the worse gets the music output (i.e. more noise is coming out of the speaker) and the right channel seems to have less power (or output). Now I've disconnected my JBL Creature speakers set as from time to time also static ticks are loudly to be heard when just connected whilst I don't do anything with my MacBook Pro.
Can anyone tell me whether this is a problem of the audio-design of the new MacBook Pro (aluminium unibody) and if so is there a solution for to by-pass or overcome this very annoying problem.
Many thanks in advance for your support!

It is true that the audio quality is a total crap, the audio card seems to be "Realtek" and yes it is ****, I am really ****** cause it is not a cheap computer and I have always used mac too and I am really disapointed. I just can't believe that Apple has passed by the audio quality that is so carefully observed in the ipod products. I have been blessed (no, it is really a curse) with a very sensitive unhuman high frequency hearing and my ears really hurt when I use the earphones with the Macbook notPro and I use it at low volume. You can even hear when the sound system goes off when no sound is played for a little while and the when a sound is played goes on and the noise begins. Also you can hear strange whistles and sissings wich are not continuous but the main amp noise is there. This kind of noise is produced by bad quality, low eficiency amplifiers or other factors I do not know. But I have tested several realtek integrated cards and the all are pure crap or less than crap.
    Ok bye, bye.

  • JBL Creature speakers for the new Mac Pro

Hmmmm - unless I'm doing something strange/wrong I find that my JBL Creature speakers that worked perfectly well on my recently sold Power Mac PPC Dual 2.5 GHz G5 are not compatible with the new Nehalem 8-core Mac Pro.
I have the 8-core 2.26 GHz Nehalem with stock 6GB memory + the new 24" LED ACD connected via the mini display port. The JBL's pin does plug into the backside of the Mac Pro's audio out jack but there's absolutely no sound from the JBL speakers. The ONLY sound is from the speakers in the base of the 24" LED ACD.
Weird.... Am I doing something wrong ? Thanks....

Yes, you're doing something wrong: you need to go to system preferences -> audio (or sound, I'm not sure, as I'm not using English as my system language), then select the right audio output (something like "line out"). This way it won't use the 24" LED ACD speakers but your JBLs.

  • JBL Creature speakers aren't showing up on Snow Leopard

I just installed Snow Leopard and my JBL Creature external speakers won't show up. They worked fine with my Tiger yesterday.

Hi - I just installed Snow Leopard and my speakers (external) aren't working either. I tried changing line in/line out and nothing worked. Restart didn't help either. Did you find a solution?

  • Trouble with JBL Creature speakers Help Please

Hello just got these to go with the mac mini. When I plug them in the only one that has worked is the one that has volume control on them. I have checked everything any idea why it goes off and on? The power is on i see green light on the main one. Now I have no power on either speaker should I send them back or can this be fixed? Ever since I plug them in 2 days ago one speaker work than the other does and now neither has the green light on execpt where you plug them into power.

I had a similar problem with the Creature 2 speakers for the missus's iMac. What I saw was only the left speaker was working but with very low volume and the right speaker not working at all. It also switched itself off too.
Turned out that the audio cables going into the sub were loose. Try reseating all the cables and then switching them off and on again. That worked for and now they are flawless!

  • Suddenly quiet audio volume using JBL Creature speakers

About a month ago or so, I was able to turn the volume up on my Mac Pro almost to the max and have to adjust the volume from it's loudness. Now I have the audio up to the max on my Mac and the sounds are very quiet. I know I didn't blow out the speakers because I have never had the music up that loud. I've gone to the Audio set up and everything is to the right at max volume. What happened???

Realized that the touch speakers must have reset at one point. LOL... Problem fixed!!!

  • Help with Creature speakers on iMac...

Ok, so i got the JBL Creature speakers to go with my new iMac and I have one problem. The left satellite speaker has no sound.I am very sure that when we tested it at the store it was playing ok on all speakers. We even tried it on the iMac they had on display.Could it be that the jack is not all the way in on the Mac? It certainly feels like it needs to go in a bit more as, I can see part of the rod still peeking out when it is plugged, but I'm afraid of forcing the issue. Or is this something I have to configure somewhere on my system?

    Indomac,
One way to know for sure is if the light is on on the left speaker (either green or blue) just like the light on the right speaker with the volume controls.
If the light is not on, then you should try to reinsert that jack (for the left speaker) on the sub. The jacks are shaped so sometimes you get the impression that they are in, but are really not. I know that the brown jack---the color for the left speaker---is shaped like a triangle and should fit into the triangular opening on the sub (The right speaker is a yellow jack with a square shape). It can sometimes seem attached, but if the shapes do not correspond, the jack will not fully seat and the lights will not be on.
You should not need to configure anything on your system as it automatically detects it when an external speaker is attached to the line-out port. And lastly, do not force the jack into the iMac line-out port, I have the same speakers as you, and the green colored jack from the speaker does protrude, as you said, a bit when inserted. You can see a few mms of the rod just peeking out between the port and the jack's plastic backing.
Check that the speaker jacks are seated correctly before pursuing other options.
    Hope this helps...

  • Using iMac sound output with JBP 'Creature' speakers

Am trying to install a pair (set actually) of JBL Creature speakers. I am using the iMac digital audio output which I understand should also serve as an analogue output. However, the sound out of the JBLs is quite muffled, tinny, and low, which leads me to believe that something is wrong. Any clues?
Not sure how Mac Audio outputs work.

    HI,
I have the Creature with satellites. One of your satellites should have a plus and a minus sign. That is volume. The bass and treble are on the Creature subwoofer.
The outlet you use on your Intel based iMac is the one closest to the right side on the back.
Make sure your cables are seated properly. They connect "just right". I have found the Creature to have superior sound for such a small system.

  • Concern with JBL Creature II Speaker Sound

I just upgraded from the JBL Duet speakers to the JBL Creature II speaker system. I am unhappy with the sound produced by the new speakers. The subwoofer has a nice sound but the satelite speakers seem "tinny". Has anyone experienced the same results?

yes, I have tried varios settings for the eq. I have found that some songs sound better with certain settings. So, I have changed those songs.
But, it still holds true that the speakers have trouble with the mid range bass and the high treble. There could be many other factors involved, but I have noticed songs that sound distored on the creatures, sound great with my headphones.

  • Audio out on Mac Pro (late 13) with JBL Creature

Just set up new Mac Pro and plugged JBL Creatures I have used with audio line out in several Macs into the line out jack - no sound. Sytem prefs Sound output set to Line Out (highlighted). Nothing. Reconnected, then reversed and reconnected Creature input cable (green rung, 3 connector). Nothing.Internal speaker works fine. Is there an easy way to test whether the Line Out jack is delivering a signal; would there by anything about  the Creature that would be incompatible (am I giving a digital output to an analog device?
    thnx in advance

    yes, Digital to analog.

  • Pairing my JBL bluetooth speakers prompts iTunes launch

Whenever I pair my JBL Charge bluetooth speakers with my (late 2011 13") MBP running Mavericks (10.9.4 - 64-bit), iTunes (11.3.1 (2) - 64-bit) will automatically launch. Just like that, out of the blue, surprise surprise, like an annoying internet pop-up ad. Needless to say, this is extremely irritating.
I've tinkered with iTunes settings, and have also tried to find a solution in the internet. After what I consider a reasonable time (1h) I was not succesful in fixing this. I mean, come on, isn't apple all about easy going and properly functioning products? Why can't I easily find a solution to this issue? Does it even exist?
At any rate, it's quite pathetic that Apple resorts to this kind of blatant invasion of your privacy, just to get you to use iTunes. It's almost dictatorial.
Please, Apple fanboys (not saying Apple fans, which I think I am), refrain from twisting things and blaming the user.
Thanks a ton, have a great day!
    Juan

Thank you very much, the info in the last link did the trick, and it was very easy.
About who is to blame, being Apple as overly proud of their perfection and flawlesness, yes, I think I have the right to blame them. My speaker is not a fancy device, it's only a bluetooth speaker from a major vendor. Also, the fact that the script only opens iTunes... it's not like Apple never tried to shove their products/ideas on everyone's face. Kind of suspicious, wouldn't you say?
I really appreaciate their products, but I do like democracy and freedom to choose as well. Maybe not the adjectives to best describe Apple. And on top of that, at least iPhone wise (also a user here), I think they're just over reaping the harvest. I don't say they ought to come up with a breakthough surprise in each iPhone iteration, but at least innovate a little. If not, I don't see the point of paying such a premium
Have a great day, and again, thanks!!!

  • External speakers question...

First of all, I am unsure exactly where to post this question because it involves my Macbook, iPod, HDTV, and PS3. I decided to post it here because ever since I purchased my C2D Macbook this forum has been simply outstanding so I hope someone can help.
I am looking at purchasing external speakers to connect the devices mentioned above. It seems most of the higher-end speakers in the Apple Store are around $250-300 so I want to make the right choice with that much money. I was initially going to purchase just an iPod dock but when I started looking through the speakers it seems that I could spend just a little more money and get an all-in-one speaker setup.
Basically, I am wondering if I purchased something like the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 speaker system how would it hook up to my iPod and HDTV or would it at all? I definately want something that my iPod and Macbook can be connected to so I can play all of my music. But, if I am opting for a multiple speaker system I would like to be able to hook up my HDTV in order to play my PS3 (connected using HDMI) in surround sound as well. I have no idea how something like this hooks up and being in a wheelchair I can't look at the back of my HDTV that well and the book is very unclear.
So could anyone tell me if this would work and if so how? I just don't want to waste money and if it isn't possible I will just buy the Apple Hi-Fi to dock my iPod. Please help I am completely lost and desperately need help. Again, sorry if this post is in the wrong forum, this one has just always been the most helpful. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

Nathan from what I gather your question has more to do on how to hook all of these components together than speakers. If you already have a sound system with enough inputs its just a matter of hooking all the components to the receiver/amplifier and then hooking up the speakers to the amp. Otherwise you might look at adding that piece to your repertoire of equipment. A nice amp will give you ports to hook up the TV, iPod dock, CD or DVD players, Xbox or Playstaion... As far as the iPod goes a dock will definitely be the way to go.

  • Help---my JBL Creatures are acting funny...

Moved my mac to another room and suddenly my Creatures are suffering from intermittent sound loss.
When playing a song, at a certain (higher) volume the power, or the audio feed seems to fade in and fade out randomly.
Could it be I shook up something inside the machine?
Weird because its ok when the volume is at half of the slider, but above that, the interruptions begin...

This is a long shot but it happened to me so here goes...
When you moved the iMac, did you disconnect all the speaker wires? By this i mean did you disconnect the right and left speakers from the sub and not just the line from the computer?
If this is the case then it might simply be that you have not plugged the lines all the way in. These two jacks (from the right and left speakers) are distinctly shaped---triangular for the right and square for the left.
Sometimes its easy to mistake that you've plugged them all the way in precisely because of this, resulting in a "loosely" plugged jack.
With regards to the volume causing it, it is probably the result of the vibration from the sub woofer causing a slightly unplugged jack to shake and therefore intermittently cut the audio feed.
The best way to know for sure is to check the pilot lights at the bottom of each satellite speaker. If they flash on and off during these 'outages', then chances are you have this loose connection I am talking about.

  • Apple Pro Speakers Question???

    Hello-
I was recently trying to connect my Apple Pro Speakers to a intel-iMac G5.
They don't seem to fit in to the external speaker port. Is there anyway
to connect the speakers? Your help would be appreciated.
    c.coupe

Griffin Tech made a USB based audio system that can be used with the Apple Pro Speakers. It actually has that same connector and provides power for the speakers. Unfortunately, it is no longer offered, but maybe you'll see one on eBay. It's called the PowerWave. I have one.
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4969110/
It connects by USB and is powered through USB and through an external power adapter. It has input and output connections galore (an audio Swiss Army Knife). That connection for the Apple Pro Speaker can be used with an included breakout cable for connecting a pair of regular +living room+ audio system stereo speakers (the unpowered type). I have mine connected to decent large speakers with the other RCA connector output connected to a stand-alone sub-roofer. Pretty nice sound.
I bought it back when I was using a G3 iMac, but it still works fine on my Intel iMac.
Note: Griffin also makes a device called FireWave. It does not provide powered output for speakers like PowerWave.

  • Hi, can anyone help with a speakers question????

Will using unsheilded speakers near my iPod touch damage it? I have a jvc speaker case which is unsheilded. I had it 5 inches from my touch and it froze. Coincidence?

i'm not sure what you mean by unshielded speakers. but i've not read anywhere that putting your ipod near speakers is a problem. and most docking stations involve placing your ipod virtually on top of (or very near anyway) speakers, so i can't see that would be the problem.
