Jdbc and SQLServer

I am trying to connect to a SQLServer database from my servlet using jdbc connectivity. I am able to connect to the db if I create a datasource. but if I try to make a connection by giving the connection string (DriverManager.getConnection(..)), I am getting an SQLException "No driver found" at Class.forName(com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver). I tried registering the driver using DriverManager.registerDriver(...) command, then I get NoClassDefFound error. I think it is a problem related to ClassLoader. I can see the deployed driver files in VA under the ClassLoader Viewer. Any idea what's going on here.
Thanks.

Hi Meenu:
    To register de driver the only thing that you have to do it. is the next:
String driverClassName  = "com.sap.portals.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver";
try {
   Driver driver = (Driver) Class.forName (driverClassName).newInstance();
   DriverManager.registerDriver(driver);
   drivers.addElement(driver);
   System.out.println("Registered JDBC driver " + driverClassName);
} catch (Exception e) {
     System.out.println("Can't register JDBC driver: " + driverClassName + ", Exception: " + e);
The drivers comes in the the next jars:
P9sqlserver.jar
P9util.jar
P9base.jar
sapdbc.jar
Good luck!!!

  • Sql.exception using jdbc:odbc Sqlserver 7

    hi
    i use java jdk 1.3 and sqlserver 7.0 on windows98 and establish a connection over jbc:odbc. I use executeUpdate() statement and insert something to a table. there is a trigger defined and sometimes i got an sql.exception, that no rowcount returned.
    can you help me ?
    thanks jens

    The trigger does a rollback in some cases.
    Obviously - try this out! - this causes that JDBC exception then.
    Now I see a problem in this, that the trigger does rollbacks concering the connection, but your Java program does not know that its connection's actual transaction has been rolled back. Imagine, if you have done several steps before without commitng yet, they are rolled back as well.
    So I would use this only with AutoCommit set to true.
    I think it's not a good idea in general to let a trigger do a rollback. But in this area I have few experiences.
    I assume you have to use this table schema and its trigger definition and can't change it.
    So I would find out the error code which this DBException contains.
    So in case of exceptions you can identify if this case has happened and react on it in your logic. You must interpretate this as an error or maybe as an expected condition - that depends on your logic.
    Another thought: can't you validate the values before you do the insert. Then this logic would not longer be encapsulated in the trigger, but maybe it is really a validation rule which the program should know anyway. What do you tell the user if it has occured?

  • [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Invalid column name 'Sweepstakes'.

    Okay, I'm by no means a cold fusion expert. But I have been teaching  myself over the last year since our website was built off of Cold  Fusion. So I need help because I am trying to build a site where people  can enter in their e-mail address, and name (first and last) for a  sweepstakes that we have on our catalog.
    I have create a table called "Sweepstakes" so on my MS SQL 2005 Web Box  there is a table under the database called "dbo.sweepstakes". I have  replicated basically everything that a original database that was  already created to capture user's email address for catalog request and  what have you. The original database to capture user's request catalogs  from us is called "dbo.InfoRequest" (just a FYI) and this was the  database I basically replicated in a way.
    So after saying all this, I continue to receive this error message and I  can not figure out why. So here is the error message that I am getting.
    This is the error when trying to load the database from the "webview"  basically. We have an Admin Console to the website and in their, there  is a section to list the contents of a specific database. So if you  requested a catalog, you put in your name, email address, etc on to the  website and when you hit submit on the website it insert it into the  database called "dbo.InfoRequest". So when the Spring comes and I want  to get a list of people that have request a catalog, I go to our  website's admin console and inside there, there is a "List Catalog  Request". When you click on it, it loads a file called  "ListCatalogRequest.cfm" and it displays the "dbo.InfoRequest" database  on the screen in a table format basically. So I am trying to replicate  that for this sweepstakes we are having on our website / catalog but  without using the "dbo.InfoRequest" database. Since we are doing a  drawing, I'd rather it be in it's own database for viewing a drawing. So  I have copied the "ListCatalogRequest.cfm" file and renamed it to  "ListSweepstakesEntrys.cfm" and changed a couple of things in the file  to point to the "dbo.Sweepstakes" that I created this morning and here  are the results when you bring up the "ListSweepstakesEntrys.cfm" file.
    If you need the results and / or code from either  "ListSweepstakesEntrys.cfm" or "IISAdminSecurity.cfm" please let me  know.
    THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!

    OK, this is more a SQL question than a CF question, but not to worry.
    You say this:
    I have create a table called "Sweepstakes"
    My emphasis.
    But your query is this:
    SELECT [Sweepstakes] AS TableAccessLevel, MinimumSecurity,  IDNumber FROM AdminUsers WHERE Username = 'username' AND Password =  'password' AND Active = 'Y' AND UserType = 'A'
    The question I pose to you is: does a SELECT statement in SQL take the name of a table?
    Hint: no.
    Best you revise your SQL docs, I think.
    Adam
    PS: it's "ColdFusion", not "Cold Fusion".  Not that it really matters :-)

  • JDBC MS SQLserver extremely slow connection...

    Hello,
    I have downloaded the JDBC driver from Microsoft (http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/downloads/sample.asp?url=/MSDN-FILES/027/001/779/msdncompositedoc.xml).
    I ran it from RedHat Linux (7.2) with JDK 1.4, calling SQLserver running on WIN2000 server.
    Here is my code (very simple) -
    ===========================================
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class TestSQL {
    public static void main (String[] arg) {
         try {
         String query = "SELECT * FROM publishers";
         Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
         Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.168.0.22:1433", "alex", "xxxx");
         Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
         ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
         while (rs.next()) {
              String pub_id = rs.getString("pub_id");
              String pub_name = rs.getString("pub_name");
              String city = rs.getString("city");
              String country = rs.getString("country");
              System.out.println(pub_id + " -- " + pub_name + " -- " + city + " -- " + country);
         stmt.close();
         conn.close();
         } catch (Exception e) {
         e.printStackTrace();
    ===============================================================
    The result looks fine (a total of 8 rows retrieved).
    But it took a total of (5.3s real, 2.8s user, 0.05s sys).
    In particular -
    Class.forName() took 1.5 seconds,
    DriverManager.getConnection() took 2.5 seconds.
    Did I do anything wrong? (my TCP/IP connection to the database server is fine, and i don't expect this being the problem.) or has anyone had similar experience?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    alex

    hi Max,
    I would advice you to try some other drivers also, before
    jumping into any conclusions.
    Check if there is some problem with your machine and connection setup, you can get at least the evalution
    versions of other drivers.. and do the test with them too..
    Some nice drivers are from Atinav, Datadirect, Inet etc they provide
    evaluation versions also i think ..
    and please tell us the results too...
    Cheers,
    -Jer

    Help on RFC to JDBC and JDBC to RFC
    Hi Gurus
    I have the scenario where an RFC will be triggered in SAP , to write to a DB2 database and insert new records in a table
    and vice versa the JDBC has to read som data from a table based on a primary key, mark them as read for not be read next time and send the data to an RFC where a table in SAP will be updated.
    I have never worked with JDBC before , pls advice.
    is there any new issue to consider in PI 7.0 regarding JDBC

  • JDBC and FTP sender channels stop polling

    Hi,
    We have a great volume of sender JDBC and FTP sender channels.
    For this reason there is nothing unusual to have temporary error connections.
    Several months ago, with an XI 3.0 system, sender channels recover its functionality  automatically when temporary error connection is solved.
    But now, he have migrate to a  PI 7.1 sytem, and in the same scenario and configuration,  sender channel stop polling after a temporary error . In cc monitor this channels remains in  green status and there were no signs of stopped interfaces.
    Timeouts are correctly defined and there is no difference between channel configuration in our Xi and PI system.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thanks, in advance.
    Carme.

    Thanks for your fast response, Stefan.
    After writing this post, i ask the same question to our basis team and  we are in the latest sp.
    ¿do you know if there is any note or can you provide me some additional information?
    I'm not able to find any note about this issue...

    hi All,
    could you tell me the limitations of JDBC and Mail Adapter .i need to document these details .
    Regards
    Vidya Sagar

    HI Vidya,
    If i was you, i would do a list of things that i would need about these adapters, o i would search the SAP.help documentation for a first view and later ask about this possibility. Another way is to read the SCN doubts about these adapters and you can find some problems. You should think about the PI version as well.

  • JDBC and Linguistic Sorting

    The problem: oracle jdbc thin driver doesn't see environment variable NLS_SORT
    Description:
    We have a lot of code written in coldfusion and now we would like to switch form CF5 to CFMX. We use oracle thin driver to connect CFMX to oracle DB.
    The problem is that "order by" doesn't work as earlier. It seems that it jdbc driver couldn't make linguistic sorting, only binary. I tried with different versions, classes12.jar and ojdbc14.jar (the newest from otn).
    I know that i could solve problem if use sql function nlssort but it is not acceptable for us. We couldn't change all our source code. We would like to use env variable NLS_SORT to control this behaviour.
    I also wrote small standalone java program to test this directly but it doesn't see NLS_SORT. sqlplus from same shell works well.
    Is it possible to set oracle jdbc thin driver to use NLS env settings (NLS_SORT)?
    If yes, how? If not, what is the way to do linguistic sorting using jdbc?
    Thank you,
    Zeljko

    Zeljko,
    I don't have an answer for you (sorry), but I can suggest some resources where you may find the answer (hopefully -- assuming you haven't already tried them).

    [Note: Since I couldn't see any details in your post about which Oracle version you are using, I assumed it was 9.2. However, you can access Oracle documentation for all the latest versions from the [url=http://tahiti.oracle.com]Tahiti Web site.]

    Thank you very much.....

    Hi Deep,
    There is a how-to posted on SDN regarding how to connect and configure the BI JDBC Connector.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/6209b52e-0401-0010-6a9f-d40ec3a09424
    This document describes the jdbc driver to use etc.
    Hope this helps,

  • Generic Insert and Update Queries to work on both Oracle and SQLServer

    xMII12.0.2
    I need to write queries which will be able to run on both Oracle and SQLServer database tables without any changes.  It needs to be able to handle dates without including Oracle specific date functions (TO_DATE, TO_CHAR, TO_TIMESTAMP, etc.).
    I did read a post earlier by Jeremy Good regarding the use of ED and SD which invoke the DatePrefix and DateSuffix in the data server configuration.  That seems to work fine in cases of only trying to insert two distinct dates.  However, what do you do in the case of having three or more dates to insert.  An example query might be:
    Insert into ProductionOrder
    (ProdOrdNbr, Plant, Material, Quantity, UOM, DeliveryDate, ProdStartDate, ProdFinishDate, CreateDate, LastModifiedDate)
    Values
    ('0100001001', '001', '000000000007887780', 20.0, 'PC', '21-FEB-08 22:01:19','11-FEB-08 00:01:34', '12-FEB-08 02:44:59', '01-FEB-08 12:00:00', '04-FEB-01 13:22:13')
    So far I have been using the TO_DATE to convert the dates successfully, but SQLServer does not recognize that function (not surprising since it is an Oracle specific function).  So I would have to go through all the transactions/query templates and rebuild them separately to deal with the different database vendors.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Rick,
    Are you talking about dynamically building each script based on a server setting and datatype?  If I understand you correctly, I guess it could be done that way, but it would be a royal pain to maintain.  I have done such things before and can see how it could be done.
    But is there no way to invoke the DatePrefix and DateSuffix besides the SD and ED parameters?  Or did I misunderstand your response?
    I would be perfectly happy to build all the queries inside BLS transactions.  In the few cases, where they are not already contained in the BLS, we could throw a BLS wrapper around it and not pay much of a penalty in performance.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Which tutorials may you suggest for JDBC and servlets?

    Hello, i would to learn about JDBC and servlets.
    May you please suggest me a good tutorial(e.g.post me a link) in order to study for JDBC and servlets?
    e.g. How to make a servlet etc.
    Thanks, in advance!

    I agree with PhHein, it's best to learn one technology and then the other. (Just my two cents, but start with JDBC from a simple standalone application, then when that is working, try to tackle Servlets, since you will need to also learn how to get them working in a container like Tomcat).
    Here is a tutorial that has both concepts in it at the same time. Site is down now, but is usually up. http://www.roseindia.net/jdbc/jdbcconnectivity.shtml
    Also, you will eventually want to download a J2EE container such as Tomcat or Jboss.

  • ___Secure JDBC and Servlets___

    Hey all! I have an applet that uses jdbc calls to an oracle database, and servlets calls to oracle's jserv servlet container. It has been requested to make these connections secure.
    Can someone please point me into the right direction on information/documentation on performing secure jdbc and servlet calls.
    Thanks!
