Hi,
I want to know certain basic things on JDBC.
java.sql has mostly interfaces. Who implements these? is it the responsibility of DB Vendors to adhere to the signatures specified by Sun in the interfaces of java.sql ?
in our application, we use Weblogic app, Informix DB server. We create a connectionPool in Weblogic, and the use DataSource.
How much of the JDBC is implemented by Weblogic and Informix.
The above architecture belongs to which type (Type 1, 2, 3, or 4)

java.sql has mostly interfaces.Yes, that's an important feature of the JDBC design. Interfaces let you separate what is done from how it's done. It's the only way to make it possible for your code to be vendor-independent.
Who implements these?The DB vendor writes the JDBC implementation.

How much of the JDBC is implemented by Weblogic and
Informix. I believe both WebLogic and Informix have JDBC drivers. You can choose which one you want to use. When you set up your database connection pool you have to tell it the fully-resolved class name of the JDBC driver you want it to use. The packages will distinguish between WebLogic and Informix implementations.
The above architecture belongs to which type (Type 1, 2, 3, or 4)Type 4 - 100% Java JDBC driver. It doesn't refer to the architecture. It has to do with the way the JDBC driver itself is implemented. You can defer to ODBC calls, use native methods via JNI, or write the whole thing in Java. Type 4 is the last one.
