  • HT5654 Im clicking help and checking for updates, the updates come up so I click to download it and nothing happens, help me?

Ive clicked on help to check for updates, the update I needed came up so I clicked update and nothing happened, what do I do?

Going by your profile your Mac has v10.5.8 installed. That is the most recent version available for Leopard.
You may be able to upgrade to v10.6 Snow Leopard >  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Snow Leopard is available for purchase from the Apple online store > Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)
With Snow Leopard installed, iTunes would be updated for you.

  • "Check for Updates" issue

I am just learning BootCamp and want to install XP. The first step in the installation guide is to "Check for Updates". It says to go to apple.com/support/bootcamp and see if I need to update my software. What software are they referring to? I am completely up to date according to Software Update. Is this for the newer releases of BootCamp? I see that BootCamp 3.1 and 3.2 are available for download and I checked and saw that I have 3.0 installed. I tried downloading 3.1 and it came up as an .exe file. I thought that that was a Windows format and therefore useless to me until I get Windows installed. Therefore, this can't be the update that they are referring to... unless there is something else that I am supposed to do with the file.
I guess that I am more confused than I want to be here. Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

1 thing that I didn't realize when installing Win7 after bootcamp was set up was that after Win7 installation finished, then I needed to insert the Mac installation DVD to install the drivers. Had to re-do this 2x this past weekend after my MacBookPro had 2 be erased 2x for problems. & I had help of both Apple store & Microsoft store (right down the hall from ea other at our local mall). 1st time Genius bar set up bootcamp & then I sat there & installed windows7 myself. I didn't realize about the drivers but noticed it didn't look or act quite right. After the 2nd erase Genius bar set up bootcamp ready to install Windows. Then I was able to do the Windows install at the Microsoft store where I could ask them at decision points. They knew the Apple drivers needed to be installed after Windows was for it to work right. Big difference it runs smoothly.

  • How to remove Help - About - "Check for updates"

I need to disable completelly all update possibilities from Firefox 4 installation and this is still something that I have not been able to remove.
inside omni.jar I have found similar configuration files that have been working also in prevoius FF versions and have been able to remove update tab completelly from Tools - Options -> Advanced but I have not been able to remove this update button from FF.
I thought that I found correct file to change:
"omni.jar\chrome\browser\content\browser -> aboutdialog.xul" but modifying that does not affect at all to this About - check for updates button.
Any ideas? I have tried to check other files also for this, but have not yet found anything, unfortunately...

A possibility is to use CSS code in userChrome.css or create an extension that adds this code.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #updateBox { display:none !important; }</nowiki></pre>

Disalbe ALL security software (firewall, antivirus, etc.) running on your computer while updating.

  • I currently have iTunes version 7 and I need to upgrade to version 10.  I am afraid of losing all my music if I just download 10 and when I use the "Check for updates" in the version 7 help menu, it tells me the server cannot be contacted.

I currently have iTunes version 7 on my computer and need to upgrade to version 10 to sync my new nano iPod.  When I tried the "check for updates" under the version 7 "help" menu, it said it could not contact the update server.  I am afraid if I just download version 10 from the website, it will wipe out my music library.  What should I do to upgrade?

Back up your music and install from the website. You probably won't need to do this, but if your library is erased, restore it from the backup.

There is some kind of error. The new version of iTunes is 11.1, which although is not available via updates, it can be downloaded from the Apple website here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
After updating iTunes to the newest version you should be able to update your iOS
EDIT: I just did that and it works

  • Help Menu: No Option To Check For Updates

    What the subject line says.
    Firefox 4
Help Menu: where is the option to Check for Updates?
Never lacked the option in any previous Firefox version

'''Help > About Firefox''' = a '''''Check for Updates''''' button should appear there, if you have automatic updates turned off. Otherwise, Firefox will automatically check for updates when the About Firefox dialog is opened.

  • Thanks for the Firefox 4 upgrade. Here is my concern - Previously, the "Check for updates" option is found under the Help menu. In Firefox 4, I cannot find this option; how will we be able to check if there are available updates?

Previously, the "Check for updates" option is found under the Help menu. In Firefox 4, I cannot find this option; how will we be able to check if there are available updates?
Can this new version update itself automatically? How do I set this option?

Why do developers move stuff just to move it?

  • Can't update Firefox from version3.0.10. Firefox option is NA under automatic update. Check for updates is NA under Help menu. How can I update?

On my Windows Vista 64 bit laptop, I have Firefox version 3.0.10.
I want to update to the most current version but all update options are grayed out.
On the automatic update screen under Advanced Options tab, the word FIREFOX is grayed out, so I can't select it.
Under the HELP Menu, the CHECK FOR UPDATES is also grayed out.
Somehow, something has happened along the way & now my Firefox can not/will not update itself.
I do NOT share this computer with anyone & I am the Administrator.
How can I get it fixed so it will automatically update Firefox again?
And how do I find out what the latest version # of Firefox is?
Thank you in advance for your help.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Thanks AnaMusic. I didn't realise that I needed OS X Lion installed on my MacBook Pro. Bought it and installed and the icon is now there Now I'm faced with having to familiarise myself with the new features of OsX Lion and it is truly overwhelming. A step-by-step approach is called for I suppose. Thanks so much for your help

  • Wish:  Check for Updates on the Help menu

both Opera & Firefox have a "Check for Updates" on their Help menu. I wish that Safari for Windows would also have the same thing.
I don't like "Apple Software Update" and wish that it was not part of the Safari installation.
I prefer to manually check for updates.

I don't like "Apple Software Update" and wish that it was not part of the Safari installation.
ASU is optional. You can uncheck it during installation or you can uninstall it later through "Add/Remove programs".

  • Can't find "Check for updates" option in Help menu

    Hello
I am planning to update several adobe reader installations over a windows domain. First of all, I tried to do it in one particular machine without administrative privileges (not being Local Administrator).
I am surprised of not finding the "Check for updates" option. What is more, there is no topic in the forums about this issue (?).
Please, could anyone tell me what am I missing?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes I'm afraid that update must be run with administrative privileges... But there must be another way of updating a product across a network of 400+ clients without login in all of them ...
I'm trying with adobeupdatechecker, to see if it is possible some kind of automation.

  • I cannot update iTunes. In instructions for updating it says to go to help and then click check for updates. Guess what! No help options within iTunes. I need to be able to syn my iPod touch 5 but I cant without the newest iTunes. I am sick of this crap.

I am EXTREMELY tired of having to deal with this. iTunes has been an issue since I got it and unfortunately whenever I want to update my computer's iTunes account it demands I download a new format (which has continually gotten worse and WORSE over time). I wish things would not be updated so frequently. As soon as I have the new format working decently (ONLY decently, I have never had an apple product that has worked as it is stated it should) another update comes along. And THIS time, I cannot download it. First problem: I open iTunes. It says I need to update for my ipod to work. I think "great. I click ok and it will do it automatically!" Oh boy was I wrong. I don't do anything. I search up how to update things. It says ON THIS SITE: Go to help in the itunes store. THERE. IS. NO. CLEARLY. VISIBLE. HELP. SECTION. I have looked for FAR to long for this to be worth my time.

Okay - let's cut to the chase...
If the Menu Bar (File, Edit... Help) shown in my screenshot below is not visible, use CTRL+B to display it. Then click on Help/Check for Updates. If one is available, you will be able to select it at this time.
Note the item at the bottom of the list; About iTunes. Selecting that will show you which version of iTunes you are using.
An alternative method to display the Menu Bar is click on the box in the top left of your iTunes window...

  • "Check for Updates..." menu item missing Acrobat 9 Mac

Trying a clean install of Acrobat 9 Pro for Mac on a clean Mac OS X.8.3 Mountain Lion. It take the serial number without issue after launching, but in the Help Menu there is no, "Check for Updates..." item.
Installed and logged in as a local admin. The only alternative way to update the software is to go to the products update page at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh
To download and manually install in succession TWENTY updates to get from v. 9.0 to v. 9.5.4. This shouldn't be this difficult. I bet the Adobe Chat Customer Service that I'd be able to download and install all TWENTY updates before anyone on this forum could provide me with a solution.
    Do you accept the challenge?

If you can not download the updates from the help menu any more, then for the MAC the updates are available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh. Generally you have to install these updates in order. It is simplest to download the latest first and work back to see if any can be skipped. Once the product hits end of life (and I think AA9 is there), the only updates that are provided are for critical security updates. For instance there has not been an update for AA 8 since Sept 2011. Since the releases are about every 2 years, it is indeed the end-of-life time in the cycle for AA 9 based on the history of the products. The upgrade may be worth it at some time, particularly as your OS or word processor or such change over time. Since the MAC version does not have PDF Maker (as I understand it), the upgrades may not be as critical for you as for PC folks working with newer versions of MS OFFICE -- who have gotten used to those features.
