JDeveloper ADF Deployment to OC4J

Have developed a UIX/JSP in JDeveloper 9.0.5.2. It works fine as expected with the JDeveloper embedded OC4J server.
JSP is a master detail page, can scroll through master records and see detail lists. Deployment is successful to standalone OC4J...But it does not work there, behaviour is this: on startup, first master record is displayed, but no details...then next button(s) do not work. Have deployed a WAR, have gond through JDev library installations for OC4J, etc....but page initially displays first master record, then does nothing else.
Where can I find a detailed deployment how-to page for deploying to OC4J? I have been through several already, but something is still missing.

  • Bc4j.xcfg, database connections and deploying ADF apps to oc4j

I'm trying to understand how to enable custom database connections on a JDeveloper ADF application deployed to a stand-alone instance of OC4J.
All entity objects were created as ADF Business Components.
I looks like the db connection information used by the application is stored in a file named "bc4j.xcfg".
How would I change the database connection information between different environments, changing the server, port and password information from an OC4J instance?
I'd like to use an OC4J defined data-sources.xml file, but am looking for the simplest approach for now.

Tomato tomaato, call it what you will, we now have to spend time (money) figuring out how to change from using the recommended use of a "connection" from Oracle tutorials and in Oracle Press books.
Plus, neither I nor our client can get JDeveloper ADF 10.1.3 to work on OAS 10.1.2.
Oracle has been of little help, other than stating to follow documentation. We followed the documentation at least a dozen times and on three different install of OAS 10.1.2.
Why doesn't JDeveloper have a check-box or button that reconfigures the application to run on 10.1.2 (J2EE 1.3), there is a check-box to change JDK versions (1.4)? This is suspect to me.
We are going to be speaking with the client this week, and have to state the ADF application works, but NOT on OAS 10.1.2.
Does ADF work on OAS 10.1.3, absolutely, but the client is in 10.1.2 and can not upgrade at this time.
I've read in blogs where lots of developers have the same issues without resolution and Oracle should just come out and state that 10.1.3 does not work on 10.1.2.
So my experience has been a mixed bag with ADF, both in terms of the software and customer support from Oracle.

I am working on an applet version of the BI Beans java client application. It works fine when running in JDeveloper (applet viewer), but fails when deployed to OC4J. Hi there,
I've already read the previous topic about deploying ADF Faces to OC4J 10.1.2.
But I'm still getting failed to deploy it.
Some clue that I know are:
    - Using JDK 1.4.2 (not 1.5)
    - Using J2ee 2.3 (not 2.4)
    - Using ADF Runtime installer to OC4J 10.1.2
But i've got some problem, when I'm trying to run my project using jdk 1.4.2. It gives me an error like this:

Embeded weblogic runs with ADF libraries of 11g why this class cannot be found?
    Any comment will be helpfull,
    Thanks

I am not explicitly use this class, neither in source code nor in xml configuration files so i can’t find it anywhere in my application.
I guess that, embedded weblogic loads 11g adf libraries and does not include this 10g specific class but migration shouldn’t change this
    oracle.adf.view.faces.event.AttributeChangeEvent to
    org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.event.AttributeChangeEvent?

  • ADF Deployment Granularity - Best Practices

    Hi People,
If anyone can spare some time to discuss this, I would like some pointers about ADF applications deployment best practices. For example, we have some customers that complain about having to re-deploy the entire application EAR just to add a field "rendered" condition on a single page, and also having to re-deploy the ADF BC model JARs even though the application has only been changed on the view layer.
What level of deployment granularity can we JDeveloper + ADF developers provide to our customers, without the risk of having inconsistency or dependency problems? So far, our strategy is to deploy the BC Model layer to separate JARs and the View Layer in a WAR file, packaging everything in an EAR. Is it feasible to allow the developers to change one single page and generate a deployment archive for just that single page? If not, which arguments can i provide in a discussion to support the single-deployment point of view?
Thanks for your time, and regards!
    Thiago

    Hi Thiago
Interesting question and one that comes up from time to time with JEE applications. I've been doing some research on this issue, and recently blogged about how OC4J and BEA Weblogic handles this scenario. Hopefully the post and reference to the OTN post gives you more information, though I'd be interested if you're research reveals a different approach.
I'm also hoping this issue comes up at the OOW ADF Methodology chat among the JDev experts, it would be good for the experts to share their different approaches to this common issue.
I know this doesn't give you a direct answer but hopefully will be useful.
    Cheers,
    CM.

  • Error while invoking a Web service deployed on OC4J from Oracle BPEL

    Hi,
I had created a web service from a simple java class using JDeveloper and deployed that on OC4J which had emmited a wsdl for the web service. On the same AS my BPEL processing is deployed in which i had created a partner link by using 1st option (i.e Browse WSDL files from local file system) and invoking the published method of the java class.I am expecting that the method of the class which is deployed as web service will be executed and i will get the return of the method as the response of the invoke activity , but i am getting this error :
    <remoteFault xmlns="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension">
    <part name="summary">
<summary>when invoking locally the endpoint 'http://localhost:8080/MyIM-JavaCustomerFactory-context-root/JavaCustFactory', ; nested exception is: ORABPEL-02052 Cannot lookup BPEL domain. </remoteFault>
It seems that the Invoke activity is not able to get the WebService and it is asking for some settings , if any clue regarding this pls reply.
I can also give the wsdl also.

    Hi,
    Thanx it is working now.
BTW can you give me some urls with info of this kind of setting which i need to do for other kind of integarions in J2EE platform.Sorry if i am asking too much as i am a starter in this technology.

  • Please help me about jdeveloper application deployment for weblogic

At the beginning I just thought after developing an adf application then just deploy it as a .ear file and deploy it in the weblogic console and everything will be ok.But in fact I got a lot of problems. Then I got a tutorial for that and I do what it said step by step but some new problems occured. This is the tutorial I mentioned: [How-To: ADF Deployment Guide|http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/jdeveloper/howto/11114/managedserver/wlsadfms.htm]
Now could somebody tell how did you deploy your adf application?
Here is the errors I got.
This is the install packege and the OS I use:
    1. CentOS 6.3_x64 + jdeveloper11123.jar(include wls10.3.5) + adr(package name is ofm_appdev_generic_11.1.1.6.0_disk1_1of1.zip)[and just now I used a solaris11 vm from oracle and install jdeveloper11.1.2.3, the same probem occured as in CentOS.]
    2. Win7_x64 + jdeveoper11123.exe(include wls10.3.5) + adr mentioned above
Here is the problems I get:
in the case 1,after I install the jdeveloper(using sun jdk 1.7), the weblogic seems to be well though I didn't configure a domain. But after I open an
application(which I get from the oracle jdeveloper tutorial demo, which works well in my Win7 env) and I run it, the integrated weblogic can't get
started. Firstly in the console it said the -jrocket identifier is not recognized, then I modify the setDomainEnv.sh and the startWebLogic.sh file in the
integrated wls domain (the one in the .jdeveloper directer) to set the JAVA_VM variable to -server.After that another problem came out: when the
wls goes to status "starting",it is blocked and I turn to the system monitor it shows that a java thread using more than 1GB of memory of my system
and occupy 150% of my cpu(it's a double-core computer). I wait for about 5 minutes when a error came said "PermSize is too small".then I modify the
setDomainEnv.sh file again to set the PermSize to be 1024m and MaxPermSize to be 2048.(the variable name is something like that, maybe not the
exactly right. I think you can understand which one it is.) But the problem is still there.
then in the case 2.Firstly the jdev and the integrated wls works well, but when i deploy an application which works well to a ear file and deploy it to a
standalone wls(10.3.5) it never works.the error is something referrence/dependences libraries is not found. Then I tried to new a server connection to
the standalone wls and I got the tutorial [how_to_deploy_adf|http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/jdeveloper/howto/11114/managedserver/wlsadfms.html] , as the tutorial said I patch my standalone
wls with the adr and everything goes ok, no error reported. Then I tried the new server in the new machine under the manage of the adminserver and apply the
adf template in the localhost:port/em console. But after I restart the new server(by the console and then by the stop+startweblogic.bat file) the server is running
while the application in the new server is just "Unavailable". I tried this for three times in three computer, two of them are running win7,the other one is running winxp.
I don't know what is wrong and I am totally a newbie about this. Somebody please help me.Thanks a lot!
    regard,Neo.

    Neo,
there are a couple of problems. First of all, jdev comes with it'S own jdk bundled in the product (jdk 1.6_x). Next thing is if you use JDev 11.1.2.3.0 to build an application you must use a wls 10.3.5 or 10.3.6 where you need to install the correct runtime onto. In your case you first install adf runtime 11.1.1.6.0 and then you need to install two patches which update the adf runtime to 11.1.2.3.0. These spathes are only available via support.oracle.com, meaning you need asupport contract to get them.
More information you can find in my blog http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/jdeveloper-versions-vs-weblogic-server-versions/
The rest of your problems go away once you have installed the right adf runtime on your server.

  • JDeveloper, ADF, Quartz: Quartz Using different Classpath than Backing bean

    Hi,
I have an ADF 10g application. When i get an Application module using Configuration.createRootApplicationModule, it works fine in normal java class or backing bean.
Now i have an quartz configured in this project. The same code does not work in Quartz Job class.
When i print the classpath using System.getProperty("java.class.path") in normal java class or backing bean, then it considers everything along with BC4J jar files. But when i print the same thing in quartz job, it has only two jar files inside its class path: C:\JDeveloper\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar;C:\JDeveloper\jdev\lib\jdev-oc4j-embedded.jar.
Can anyone let me know what could be the issue if someone has configured Quartz with JDeveloper and ADF application.

Could you please guide me in creating the applciation server connection in jev to this OAS?
And before deploying it to OAS, do i have to install the ADF libraries or it is already available?

Thanks Frank. I do have a doubt while making the application server connection.
I installed OAS by giving Instance name as xyz and password as xyz. So when it askes for the username and password in the connection wizard, do i have to supply these?
If I do I get an error message. I tried with oc4jadmin and same as password too.
But I get the connection error.
Could you please help me in solving this issue?
This is the connection error that I get.

2006-11-30 14:54:48.718 NOTIFICATION Application Deployer for wts2 FAILED.
i don't know if this can be connected to the following issue: i have another java environment on the same machine and therefore 2 different jdks: 1.4 and 5. the JAVA_HOME points to jdk1.4. but the batch file running the oc4j starts it with jdk5:
    C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin\java.exe -jar D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar
i've seen a thread here saying that problems with InvocationTargetException can be solved by using Oracle AppServer instead of OC4J, which sounds pretty bizzare to me. there are a lot of folks here who run and deploy into OC4J with no problem.
    thanks for you help!

i am still facing the same problem all peoples face
is ther any way to fix it???????
if u find a solution i will apretiate if u tell me
coz am trying to make a webservice to try it with jdeveloper over oc4j
and as u know there is a test way provided by jdeveloepr to test ur webservice after publishing it
after i compliled the calsses and deploy it and open the url http://localhost:8888/jdeveloper_ap...webservice_name
and evry thing is ok till now and the page apear carying the method services name and when i click the method servic ename evry thing is still ok and the form apear requesting the input of the method if any with an invoke button or with the invoke button alone if no input was required and 2 link below the Proxy Jar and the Proxy Source so till now evry thing is ok
but after i press the invoke button or when i press the link proxyjar or Proxy Source the explorer show the usual error page HTTP 500 - Internal server error Internet Explorer so nothing work till the end
does any one expert in webservices with jedeveloepr know what do i miss to set so that the trial work?

  • JClient with ADF deployment license

    Hello,
we are Oracle Form developer and plan a project to use Jdeveloper to deploy with JClient as a C/S application.
Can I deploy it free with JClient that make use ADF or JClient that do not use ADF. If there is a deployment license needed, what's the license terms and pricing?
Please also send the answer to [email protected] I am not checking this Forum that often.

    Thanks Shay,
below is the answer from the FAQ in case anyone insterested.
What if I use Oracle ADF in a Swing-based application running on client machines without an application server?
For client-based deployment that doesn't involve an application server, the user-based pricing for Oracle ADF applies.
I may need to consider another Java Development Tools from other Vendor, the Name User license is $100 for deploy the Jclient C/S application.
Problem is that I only familar with Oracle, do not know if there is any alternative.

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet, jsp, java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • JDeveloper, ADF, lack of support and bleak future

    Hi,
I'm a seasoned Java and .NET developer, used to many environments and frameworks. A happy user of Oracle databases.
For a very Oracle oriented client I started with a team of developer a project using JDeveloper (no choice). After 4 months of using JDeveloper, ADF to build web sites, here are some thoughts I would like to share. This remarks only focus on that products, because I have a lot of respect for the Oracle databases and had a lot of success with them.
I am starting to get depressed about the very few blogs (most from Oracle) talking about JDeveloper and ADF, the lack of books, and the Oracle forums.
Moreover, most of the time you never get an answer to your problems, sometimes untested not working 'solutions', and a very very few times a working solution. Help is sparse, the community is missing.
If Oracle wants to promote its framework, it has to boost the number of tutorials, examples and support.
Googling about ADF is most of the time a non sense since you always land on the same 3 blogs and the Oracle forums.
Proof of non use by the community ?
If you try on www.indeed.com to find statistics about JDeveloper or ADF jobs you get another frightening proof.
Sometimes you find a piece of code or a tutorial that may help, but you realize it works only on some specific release of JDeveloper.
What makes me angry is when you ask why your code works on the x.x.x.x version but not the newest version, and the only answer you get is stay with x.x.x.x version (I won't bother to fix your 10 lines or code or even give you a direction to do it (maybe coz I don't understand myself were the breaking changes are)).
JDeveloper is damn too slow ? You should have a dual-core and at least 2 Go of memory, you poor thing ! Is Java for rich people ?
Debuging is a nightmare. Compared to Eclipse or others it is not practical at all.
I'm happy when I can create a few pages drag and dropping controls. Business components are also a good thing. It speeds up my development. But since development is not just UI and generating business components, I lose a lot of time every time I want to write code, every time I do something "exotic" it becomes a pain in the ass.
My problem here is that the architecture and JDeveloper constraint the developer a lot. I don't even talk about the fact that everything is only Oracle database oriented (openess ?). Even changing your page layout is a pain. Positioning controls is non trivial. As a whole, I would say that this whole thing imposes you to adapt to it, it doesn't adapt to you and your way of working.
Most results I saw look like the Oracle websites.
I could go on about the various bugs and problems that plague JDeveloper. Like the refactoring (when usable) that leave old and annoying stuff in your model XML, like the bugs in the diagrams, like problems related to auto-binding on the page and manually changing controls ID, various synchronization problems between pages and backing beans, adding upload is a mess, OrdDomain types are buggy, regions doesn't work well in the designer, and so on...
My point is that I feel the whole thing is not mature. And Oracle seems to fix some issues with the release of JHeadStart. Sometimes you fix things by integrating JHeadStart stuff. JHeadStart is probably a great thing and a time saver if you don't do too much "exotic" screens and code, but does it means that JDeveloper+ADF and classic development becomes a second class citizen ?
This is sad, since the ADF framework and JDeveloper look good and are worth of a more widespread usage. But marketing and support are way way far behind other commercial and open-source solutions. When I see what is planned for JDeveloper 11 and I compare it to others (Java or not). When I look at the developers needs and expectations, I feel we are losing the race.
Maybe Oracle would like to hand over some of the framework to the community, but my feeling is that the community is already commited on other exciting and less constraining frameworks and tool, and this community may well work in a way that doesn't fit Oracle vision. Future will tell.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
thanks for the detailed comment. I appreciate the time you spent writing this up as this helps to improve the product. Below is a first - quick and brief response to some of your statements.
    ... for documentation and tutorials
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
Especially the ADF Developer Guide for 4 GL developers earns a lot of praise among J2EE developers.

    ... for books
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/jsf.html

What makes me angry is when you ask why your code works on the x.x.x.x version but not the newest version, and the only answer you get is stay with x.x.x.x version
Of course samples need to be created to some point in time with a specific version. We have SRDemo as our main - maintained - reference demo I suggest you download this sample from OTN using help--> check for updates. Note that SRDemo contains code solutions for most developer cases and also is available in 10.1.3.1
I'm happy when I can create a few pages drag and dropping controls. Business components are also a good thing. It speeds up my development. But since development is not just UI and generating business components, I lose a lot of time every time I want to write code, every time I do something "exotic" it becomes a pain in the ***.
What is exotic, and what are the questions you didn't get an answer for ? I see that this is your first posting on OTN, so I am wondering under which account you posted the other questions that did not get an answer.
Googling about ADF is most of the time a non sense since you always land on the same 3 blogs and the Oracle forums. Proof of non use by the community ?
Isn't OTN a community ? I don't think that we need another discussion forum and looking at OTN it appears very active.
I don't even talk about the fact that everything is only Oracle database oriented (openess ?).
Not true. Please prove your claim.
Even changing your page layout is a pain. Positioning controls is non trivial. As a whole, I would say that this whole thing imposes you to adapt to it, it doesn't adapt to you and your way of working. Most results I saw look like the Oracle websites.
Now you are barking up the wrong tree, blaming ADF for what is JavaServer Faces layouting. You don't have to use JSF but can go for JSP /Struts and/or Swing development. What is the view layer technology of your choice that allows you to do better layouting ?
I could go on about the various bugs and problems that plague JDeveloper
    Yes, please post them all
... regions doesn't work well in the designer, and so on...
Of course, because regions are not officially supported. JDeveloper 11 - I know you don't want to hear future - will have full templating (going far beyound of what facelets do) and region support
My point is that I feel the whole thing is not mature. And Oracle seems to fix some issues with the release of JHeadStart.
JHeadstart is a consulting offering and not meant to fix the product.
... but does it means that JDeveloper+ADF and classic development becomes a second class citizen ?
No comment for this statement as it is based on a wrong observation
This is sad, since the ADF framework and JDeveloper look good and are worth of a more widespread usage. But marketing and support are way way far behind other commercial and open-source solutions. When I see what is planned for JDeveloper 11 and I compare it to others (Java or not).
Note that only a fraction of new features in JDeveloper 11 leaked out so far or have been mentioned in the recent statement of direction. JDeveloper has many more features that we don't yet promote because the software isn't available.
Please note that we give ADF to the community. Its just we are not giving it to the open soutce community but the J2EE community (JSR-227)

  • 'WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE-trigger' in JDeveloper/ADF/JHeadstart

    Hello,
I'm new to JDeveloper/ADF with JHeadstart.
I want to execute a PL/SQL-procedure when the application starts. I've added the method to execute the PL/SQL-procedure to the Application module class.
How can we execute this method?
    Thanks in advance.
    Richard Teunissen

    Richard,
When using security, it is easier to add a servlet filter to your application that only calls the PL/SQL procedure when user just logged in , which is start of new session.
Without security, it is easier to do it each time you enter a new page.
You can drag and drop the app module method on your page, then create an invokeAction in the executables section of your page definition that executes the method binding, and set the refreshCondition of the invokeAction to #{!adfFacesContext.postback}.
See ADF Developers guide, sections 8.4, 17.3 and 10.5.5 for more info:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/toc.htm
Now, if you are new to ADF this might sounds a bit cryptic, I strongly recommend you take some class on ADF, for example the ADF/JHeadstart workshop:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/jheadstart/workshop
JHeadstart is a great help when moving from Forms to ADF, but you still need to learn how ADF works, to be able to fully leverage the power of JHeadstart. It is like generating Forms using Designer, thevbetter you know Forms, the more advanced functionality you can generate using Designer. The JHeadstart generator is very flexbile, using custom templates you can generate almost anything you want, but it requires knowledge of ADF Faces, JSF, ADF bindings and ADF Business Components to create those templates.
    Steven Davelaar,
    JHeadstart team.
