JDeveloper and Designer 6i Repository

I don't understand the reasoning behind the need to install Designer 6i in order to use JDeveloper in a 6i repository. If the repository you're using is remote (on a server vs local PC), and you won't be doing any work using Designer, why should you need to take up the space on your PC to install it?

As John correctly states, various things you might need to do as a developer (create workareas, create / merge branches) are only currently possible through the RON. In addition, we invoke other tools such as the Dependency Manager which are part of the Repository client install.
However, you don't have to install the whole of Designer. This is a bit confusing since Designer and Repository are still packaged together in the same installer and Repository is still not being properly marketed as a fully separate product (which it is). Early on during installation of "Designer", you will be prompted whether you want to install the whole of Designer or just Repository. For SCM in JDeveloper to work, you only need the Repository client side.
We're working on making the integration between JDeveloper and Repository tighter in a future release so that it is no longer necessary to install Repository client side.

  • JDeveloper and Eclipse interfacing through Subversion

WE have a project on Eclipse. We are using Subversion for source version control. Now I've downloaded JDeveloper 11g and would like to bring the project in it. It means some will use Eclipse whereas I want to use JDeveloper and the central repository is on SVN. Is it possible? If so...please let me know how.
    Thanks
    Rashed

    Hi Rashed and Steve,
I would suggest a slight alternative to Steve. I would create an application and project in JDEV and check all the code out to it. Then I would add the application and project 'container' files (the .jws and .jpr) to the SVN repository.
This ensures that the context menu options at the application or project level are enabled.
I blogged about this a while age: http://susanduncan.blogspot.com/2007/11/at-what-level-should-i-version-my.html
Also, in JDeveloper 11g Subversion is shipped as part of JDeveloper, whereas in 10g it was an extension as Steve pointed out

  • Error and crash durring creation of Designer 2000 repository

I am a student learning to use Oracle and have run accross a problem when I tried to generate a Designer 2000 repository.
I have installed Oracle 8i Personal Edition Release 8.1.5 on Windows 98.
I logged on to Oracle using the internal id and began generating a repository, at the point in the process when it reaches these details:
    Stage Details
    CKTRIG
    Creating the repository triggers
    Object Details
    TRIGGER
    CDI_EL_CREATE_AUDIT
    Staus Information
    Submitting Definition/Statement..
    cdapitrg.sql
I get the following error message:
ora-04089: Cannot create triggers on objects owned by SYS
I have tried skipping the step until it reaches one it accepts and then received a fatal error which closed the whole program down. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling and starting the process from the beginning and ended with the same results.
Does anyone know why this is happening and more importantly how I can get around it?
    Thanks.

Am not sure if you were able to resolve the issue but below are some points:
    a. I think the dlls sfabol and msa are not any more registerable, since they are more of VB.NET components and here assembly is registered and not the dll.
    b. For logging into the application just ensure that you have user id in table SMOUSER and the employee for that user in SMOMITABT table.
    c. If this is fine, then ensure that you have the latest BDOC metadata information on your laptop. I think in 5.0 also you need to use Clientconsole to download this information.
    d. If this is all okay, then try running SQL profiler and check if the query to the ides db is being executed by the framework. If the query is fired then it means application seems to behave properly but the query is not retrieving relevant details.
For further details feel free to contact me..

  • Integration of custom identity services with JDeveloper BPEL designer

    Hi,
I'd like to know if a custom user repository plugin will cause the 'Identity Lookup Dialog' (Step 6 of Human Workflow Wizard to generate a user task) to utilize the list of users and groups from a third party provider, when used as the Custom Identity Service provider.
I'd like to have the custom list of users and groups at 'design time' of the BPEL process itself, as well as process runtime. Is this possible?
This is with respect to both BPEL PM v10.2.0.2 and v 10.1.3.1.0.
    Regards,
    Vineet

ok, thank you for the reply.
But the installation of the Oracle BPEL Process Manger for Developers which includes the JDeveloper and the BPEL Designer doesn't come with 10.1.3.1.0?
I have to install the JDeveloper and the BPEL Process Manager seperate?

  • Oracle9i JDeveloper and SCM course

A new beta course to assist the implementation of JDeveloper and SCM is now
    available:
Manage Development in Oracle9i JDeveloper with Oracle9i Software Configuration
    Manager
It is available from the OTN SCM software download area at:-
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/repository/content.html
    Feedback very welcome.
    thankyou,
    David

OracleSCM is in definite need of a "Getting Started/User Guide". It comes with an Installation Guide but, once installed, no other (detailed) documentation to point new users in the right direction. Example scenarios and tutorials demonstrating workareas and containers etc would be very helpful indeed.
Whilst the 9i JDeveloper help/documentation is better, it assumes a certain amount of OracleSCM knowledge (or that you can obtain it from OracleSCM). Furthermore, not all of our SCM needs will be from within the 9i JDeveloper IDE...other files relating to our JDeveloper applications (such as requirements/design documentation, SQL & PL/SQL files etc) will want to be brought together under SCM where the use of the RON (outside of 9i JDev) will be required (I assume?).
We have been through the beta version of the new course and, whilst a definite step in the right direction, it is no substitute for a written "Getting Started Guide" and does not provide enough information to actually get new users/projects up and running (just the foundations). In particular, we found the Practice Areas alittle cumbersome and lacking (much needed) hints/solutions. We need less of the "Overview of SCM" (most people are familiar with the concepts/benefits and have used similar products before), and much more of the specifics of setting up/using OracleSCM and JDev-OracleSCM.
We are a JDeveloper (3.2) shop (naturally) looking to migrate our applications to 9i JDeveloper where the close integration with OracleSCM is an attractive new feature that we'd like to take advantage of. Much greater help & support will need to be provided to existing (and new) users if the application of this exciting new feature is to be attempted/successful.

  • Does Oracle BPEL process manager ships jdeveloper bpel designer

I had downloaded Oracle bpel process manager and installed on my desktop but I am unable to find jdeveloper bpel designer shiped with process manager.
Could any one update me regarding the same

    Hi,
Follow the steps which I have mentioned. If you want to start with BPEL you can do either of the two things.
    1) If you are interested in only BPEL then download and install BPEL server from oracle site. For coding you need to have Jdeveloper.
    or
    2) If you want to use all the components of SOA then download version 10.1.3.1 and install SOA suite. Apply Patch to upgrade version to 10.1.3.3.
After installation of server, download Jdeveloper 10g and Unzip the file to use it.
    Hope I clarified your doubt.

  • Jheadstart, JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork

    Hi
We're four-developer team and we've been working with Jheadstart for some months. Now we want to work with team options that provide jdeveloper (CVS or SCM). But, we are a too much suprised with all the problems that other developers had with CVS, we read it in some jdeveloper forums (JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork and JDeveloper and CVS
I get very worry about the problems that developers had with CVS and that at last they don't find a better solution than migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3. All the forums recomend migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3 for better support of team work, but I read (some time ago) that jdeveloper 10.1.3 still doesn't support ADF, then I assume we cannot use it with Jheadstart, Am I right? Is there a way to use Jheadstart with JDeveloper 10.1.3 Preview right now?
What do you recomend for team work with Jheadstart?
    Thanks in advance
    Liceth

    Liceth,
As you problably know, the JHeadstart team consists of consultants and we face the exact same problems and share the exact same frustrations as you do on an every day basis at our customer projects. It is indeed not easy to use JDeveloper in a multi-developer environment. In all fairness much of this is a given when doing file-based development, and I have seen the exact same problems in situations where other IDE's such as Eclipse etc were used. But using advanced frameworks like ADF and BC4J makes matters more complex, because the declarative way of developing these applications using drag&drop and powerful wizards make you as a developer be less 'in touch' with the file or files that are actually created and updated, and also there tend to be more files in such an architecture that are changed simultaneously by many developers at once.
Merging is the only way out of this mess, and merge tools are not perfect, far from it. They get better and better but at some point you'll need to understand the semantics of the files that are to be merged to be able to merge them correctly, and merge tools will in all likelyhood never become that smart.
Until they do, the only thing one can do is to tackle the problem from the other side: if merge tools dont understand the files they merge, we should take into account the weaknesses of these merge tools, and set up our files so that changes CAN be automatically merged, or in most cases at least. Indeed, JDeveloper 10.1.3 is taking good steps in this direction for notoriously tricky files such as JPR files and such. But the problem will never completely go away.
As for using 10.1.3, well, as you said the preview does not contain ADF so JHeadstart will never run on it. We are developing JHeadstart 10.1.3 that will run on the production version of JDeveloper 10.1.3, but it will be a long time before that release will see the light. And although JDeveloper 10.1.3 is a kick-ass IDE (imho), it will not magically solve all multi-user issues. It will just be a bit more bearable.
Is there ever a real solution for it? I don't know. I have worked intensively with the Oracle Designer product before I switched to Java, and that tool, which uses a database rather than files to store its information, was almost perfect when dealing with multi-user development. It could do so because the level at which conflicts occur is VERY finegrained (so not at 'code line' level but sometimes as far as 'individual properties in a property inspector' level), plus the advantages of instantaneous locking in the database when modifying something. And, thinking of it, it could do so because it dealt with 'structured objects' rather than files, thereby having some 'semantic' information about the data. I have this feeling we can only 'get it right' if we will treat, for instance, a Java file not as a collection of lines of code, but of a structured object tree with members, constructors, methods, parameters etc. etc., and store it as such, instead of storing it as a flat OS file.
Just ranting here (this really should be a personal BLOG entry rather than a forum post, but oh well). As you can tell, its a subject that is very close to every developer's heart.
    Kind regards,
    Peter Ebell

  • JDeveloper BPEL Designer Tool: Transformation Question

    Hello,
I am prototyping a small web service orchestration demo.
I have 3 Schema Elements - Request, IndividualResponse, and CombinedResponse
I invoke 3 web service invocations in parallel - each of which takes a Request and returns an IndividualResponse
I need to populate a single CombinedResponse with the contents of the 3 IndividualResponses.
When I try a transformation node (to map an IndividualResponse to a CombinedReponse), the IndividualResponses overwrite each other's information in a single node within the CombinedResponse. I want the contents of the IndividualResponses to go into separate nodes within the CombinedResponse.
Any ideas on how to do this in the Oracle JDeveloper BPEL Designer Tool?
    Thanks!
    -SN

Transformation by definition converts one xml format to another. What you need to do is perform multiple assigns to copy the individual responses to the combined response.

  • Error installing Designer's Repository

    I try to install designer 10 R2 123 . When I try to create a new application_system I have and error RME with an associated error ORA 06508 could not find the program unit;
When I looked with view objects two package bodies fail to compile, JR_REG_IO and RM_DBG
    error:PLS 201 identifier UTL_file must be declared.
    Can somebody help me?

First of all, use the repository owner's username and password only to install the repository, and do administrative tasks, like granting a new user access to the repository, or upgrading the repository. Don't use it for day to day work, including installing the tutorial.
Second, did you set the registry variables EXECUTE_EXP and EXECUTE_IMP to point to the versions of your EXP.EXE and IMP.EXE that go with your database? This will be in a different Oracle Home from your Designer installation. This is very important both when installing or upgrading the repository, and when importing or exporting data to and from the repository. A mismatch between the IMP version and the database version can be a problem.
A TNS error can be many things. Can you give us the text of the error and the full error code?

  • Design Time Repository question.

Hi, I'm clustering my SOA Suite per a consultant and this documentation:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/core.1013/b28939/j2ee.htm
In section 3.1.19 Configuring JNDIs for the Topic and Topic Connection Factory, it states:
Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g, follow these steps to configure JNDIs in the Design Time and both ESB repository instances.
Now I've followed these steps for the ESB repository, but I find it unclear as to what it's referencing with the "Design Time repository".
I'm having an issue where the SOAP WSDL's pull up without problem, but the SOAP Endpoint URI's always fail, and I'm wondering if this may have something to do with it.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Paolo,
I am doubtful about the use of NDS. This is because the libraries available with NDS will be for WAS 6.40 and EP6 SP2 i feel is on WAS 6.20. I am really not sure about this but my main point is that there may be library version conflict issues.
I dont think there is any plugin available for DTR.
But then DTR is a WebDAV based server. Hence any WebDAV client should be able to solve your purpose.
But this is a good thread. Hope others will also provide their suggestions on this.

  • 8.1.6 and designer 6i post install problem - please help

    Hello all,

I'm fairly new to Oracle but I did have designer 6.0 working on 8.1.5.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Damon

The same happened to me. It turns out that it had something to do with old windows registry entries that let the repository install program know that I had designer 6.0 previously installed on my system. The install apparently isn't wise enough to know that it is installing 6i. It checks the registry for the first Designer version identified and decides what repository components you need based on that. 6i uses the standard repository components (6.0 versions) and some new stuff.
If you read your install documentation carefully (Chapter 2, Step 14, Item 2), you will note that you need to select two components to install. If the repository
admin utility is <prior-version-aware> it neglect to even display one of those options and its easy to blow right past that screen without realizing something is amiss (that's what I did ;-P ).
    Hope this gets you going,
As with any Oracle product install
